I normally smoke about a pack and a half of cigarettes a day. But now I've found out that I'm pregnant, and I'm keeping the child, so obviously smoking has to stop.

I've tried everything excluding the patches and the gum to try and quit before I got pregnant. And I'm sure those things are bad now that I am.

Any suggestions on things I should try? I don't want to harm my child, but the inner craving for it is really bad. I haven't smoked since I found out, but it's literally driving me crazy. I've asked my husband to take all the smokes with him when he goes to work, so I won't have them around me.

This has to stop, and soon.

i forgot about watching out for harmful chemicals ;n; ill look it up

OR ... I'm not 100% on this... i hear E-Cigs are supposed to have like NO nicotine (or you can adjust how much you take in) ... do the placebo affect. Candy Cigs... and just tell urself there's nicotine in them... or another placebo affect, such as the gum WITH beefsticks... coz then ur getting very little amts, and by the time u dont need it anymore, you'll have quit and you and the baby will be FUINE. biggrin

I love placebos... just not for serious things. They work for addictions and mental problems. -nod- classified_diedrich

substitute a craving for another. and if you dont got the craving, get it.
My buddy who was a 2pack a day smoker quit instantly but replaced it with Carmex lip balm.

My mother quit using substitutes.

What she used as a substitute was pumpkin seeds. Everytime she felt like smoking, she would eat those. It worked really well for her. She hasn't smoked in what.....two and a half years now?

Its all about substituting one behaviour for another. But it is really hard.

Nicotine replacement therapy can be taken during pregancy, and is less risky than smoking itself. I would recommend you talking to your GP, midwive or OBGYN before going on any therapy though. It can be particularly useful if you're finding it very difficult and a short course can often work wonders! Good luck.
