Rick. He seems a little more mentally stable... at least for now. He's also shown pretty good leadership skills, and he hasn't become completely jaded towards the idea of helping others.

Shane's character seems to be getting even more obsessive and violent. I keep expecting him to shoot Rick or Dale... or both.

It's hard considering both characters are pretty sweet.
However Shane has the instincts of a true survivor. He's zero bullshit and gets the job done.
He may seem heartless, but he's doing what he can to survive and doing a damn good job.

I would say that I prefer Rick, because he is nice and cares about others, but can be blind by his own kindness. Shane is a person you shouldn't trust because you never know when he is going to shoot you from the back. Rick just cares for other's well being.
