McBlarny... McBlarny... Detective Taller tried to remember who Officer McBlarny was, and if he had a reason to have a grudge against him... and then another police officer stood before him. A new guy, probably, but he thought he recognized the face... maybe he'd seen him at a crime scene...
The questions asked were mostly the standard questions - after he'd confirmed that he was indeed Detective Michael Taller, badge number 0369, and not someone with a passing similarity to him and a toy badge - : where was he at the time of the murder, did he know the victim, what was his connection to her... He replied that he wasn't sure about the time of death, but that he'd been trying to follow her - great move, now he looked suspicious again - , that he knew her only from the articles in the Bartonian, and that he wanted to ask her about one of them.
And then it started to get uncomfortable.
"What are you really doing here? It's not official business, I know that". the officer asked.
"I wanted to talk to Miss Scottson. Nothing more. Wanted to know her source for the article."
"Did you find out?"
"No. Never did, never will, probably."
"Couldn't it be that you're the source, and you killed her before it got public?"
Detective Taller shook his head. Over-eager officers... had he been that way when he got off the academy? Probably. He just didn't want to remember it. "So... what you're saying is that I, uh, told Miss Scottson about the upcoming undercover investigation, compromised myself and got shot because of that?"
"...Now that you say it, no." The officer looked embarrassed. "Do you have any suspicions, then?"
"Actually, yes. I thought you'd never ask. Here..." Taller took the napkin and pointed to a name he'd added to his list of suspects shortly before he'd had his little nap. The officer looked confused - was it because of the handwriting or the suspect, he wondered - but then nodded.
Someone tapped the officer's shoulder, and he turned and left Taller alone. The detective really hoped that his suspicions would prove correct, as he still was a suspect.
(First and last post today, I guess... school tomorrow, and I'm sick. Should get some rest.)
