I completely agree.
The teacher is a biotch if I can say for myself.
She was nice to me when I was there, but sometimes she did b***h over small things.

It's kindof like when I brought The DaVinci Code to my religion class and my teacher told me I had to leave the book in my locker and not bring it into her classroom. I asked her why and she said because it went against what she taught.

I told her it was in the fiction section for a reason. I got sent to the office.

Lesson: sometimes teachers are blind ******** and are really closed minded and defensive if something they think is opposed.

My one friend LOVES the Drizzt series and read The Night Angel trilogy and said her loyalty to Drizzt blinded her judgement on the better series. kindof went off on a tangent there but yeah.

I would think that a teacher would be smart enough to know that movies aren't exactly the same as the books. The books focused more on corrupt politics.

At the college i go to a few friends and i had this discution. ima have to agree that i was a fantastic book. the movie went along with most of what was in the books. i do believe people need to read the books before they watch the movie so that they dont freak out on other people that actually like the books
I agree with all of you. (:
They always say that teacher need to keep their personal opinions to themselves so that it will be fair to the kids, but they never do. Well, my Biology teacher rants, but we rant with her, so she doesn't count. XD
It's tough being a teacher

Little pay for a tremendous amount of work, but school systems are broken. Things like tenure in college and in some H.S. where the old teacher cannot be fired.
Its exceptionally nuanced and complicated so I won't go into detail
Just going to say there are good teachers who try, good ones who gave up/got cynical, teachers who see it as just a job, and those who should never teach in the first place (sure there are more categories but I'm simplifying)

Teachers should do their best to foster knowledge and growth...even if it means fighting personal bias and arbitrary district rules.

Sadly our teachers are ever too human too.

And as for the older books...they have a relevant meaning today and if explored in the context of the time they were written. A good teacher would help you see that even if you hated the workload.
Think of Shakespeare, I know many of you hate him or don't understand but he helped usher in some of our modern expressions and tropes.

^_^ And this is why I have no use at all for teachers. I haven't met a single one with more than 10 brain cells. Why we hire morons to teach the next generation, I will never know. This is why, should I ever have children, they will be homeschooled.

This being said, she's a stupid a*****e and has obviously never required Lord of the Flies to be read by her classes. Not only is Lord of the Flies a shitty ******** read, but the children basically start killing eachother for no real reason. They become a bunch of little ******** savages. In The Hunger Games, the children are forced to fight to the death for the glory of the capitol. And finally, they rise up, and they say ******** YOU, CAPITOL, and they end it.

I have to shoot straight here, Lord of the Flies, to me, was up there with Twatlight. I was reading it, and I said "What the goddamn hell is this? How is this even required reading? Who wrote this and where can I find them so I can beat them to death with their own book? This isn't even interesting, not even remotely..."
Don't shun all teachers. There are some really great teachers out there. I teach preschool and I go out of my way to be the best teacher than I can be. I think the biggest problem with teachers is they get lazy. They get comfortable in their position or they become jaded and stop caring.

Secondly, there are soooo many themes within the trilogy. Obviously talking about them and analyzing them takes the fun out of reading it. I hope that eventually it will be added to the reading list because there are so many important topics/themes that people fail to notice. I wish people would take more notice to them and stop putting focus on what guy they think Katniss should be with.

Thanks. Some days I can see why people give up. It can be hard sometimes. Teaching preschool takes a lot of energy. I spend a lot of time catching up kids that are behind rather than letting them fall through the cracks. I know not all teachers are that way though which is sad.

My mom has been doing that work for years, between her own beliefs, the situations of the kids (poorer district) and the districts wants and the preschool's curriculum it's a wonder the kids get any sort of semblance of consistency. But she does her best and I know what she puts in.

She's lucky my dad can support us all while she does what she loves, in our state teacher pay isn't nearly half a decent cost of living...
