Hm. I think it's triggered by certain words, and 'bow and arrow' is not among them.
I did some looking after I read the book, and Katniss, the plant, is actually rather interesting. There was a level of irony there that I wasn't aware of until I saw that the scientific genus of the plant was Sagittaria, a nod to the Sagittarius constellation. Some of the leaves of the plant even look like arrowheads.
