I always had the problem where if I wanted to talk about a problem I had, she'd somehow turn it to be all about her and I ended up comforting her about her problems and she never listened to mine

If a mother is having problems and or issues. Its probably from her past. Noone taught her how to be a proper mother. Her own mother was probably the same way. The sad part is that she did not learn and picked up her mothers traits. Which now the daughter must choose how she will be. No matter what her mother is doing or saying. She is your mother love her and pity her. For she didnt learn. Let her feel pity. But dont let it bother you. Life goes on. If she misses out in your life. Its her fault. Let her hit rock bottom. idk just saying all this from the top of my head.
