i saw a couple episodes a while ago. it's pretty cute, and i would probably watch it if i had kids. the creator, lauren faust, worked on a lot of shows i really liked when i was a kid. i think part of the hype among teenagers and young adults is nostalgia for shows like powerpuff girls or foster's home for imaginary friends.
if you aren't six-years-old, you really aren't missing anything you need to pay attention to.
