We are the 47 precent. Some of us just happen to be trolls, furries, nerds, etc.

I'm curious - why would you say this? Changes being made were suggested by lots of users, so where is the disconnect? I'd love to hear more about your opinions on the GD changes.

I just feel as if you can go through the threads and see what it is to be a GDer.

I also do not believe you should switch it to "the GD". Just turning something into an acronym causes people to forget the meaning.

IMVU makes actual money off nerds; Gaia does make a good amount of lootz via paying for special pixels, but unlike IMVU being owned by a major ad-service firm, Gaia's still semi-independent and thus broke all the time...

...Which means that, in theory, your idea is going to make Lanzer drool for a second, but he'll have to say no because then some moral authority NetNanny-esque type is going to b***h to get them shut down. Lest we forget, they used to have a "Links" section full of links to hentai websites, and one of Gaia's own admins has done Japanese Cartoon Porn artwork.

Without having an 18+ section, and while knowing nude-drops happen regardless of being against the rules (this is a fact they can not deny,) they don't really have a legal ground to stand on if some Twi-mom snoops around on 16-year-old Bella's laptop and discovers n***s/semi-n***s/sexually explicit material (legal or otherwise) floating around on a website aimed at teenagers.

If they had a verification process for an 18+ area of the forums, they would at least be able to claim that the underage user explicitly broke the rules by providing false information about their age in order to get in to the 18+ section.

Most curious, an admin actually asking my opinions rather than me just making a snark commentary about something.

To answer the question, think of it as this - I think what you lot are doing could work as a theory, but not as a practice. ToS violations, trolls, n***s, etc. will not, and for all intents, cannot be stopped from the main section just because one makes up a sub-forum for casual discussions separate from said main section. In fact, I'd wager that the casual sub-forum, while noble and less likely to make my own eyes bleed, will just cause what you assume to be the same problems between GD/CB forums within the GD itself.

Why I said you are disconnected is that you fail to see there is no fixing this, only containing it and possibly re-instating a forward-guard of mods/G-mods specifically for this forum. Mind it's a thankless job and people could expect grief, but it's the only truly "viable" option to stop what you feel is a problem. To be perfectly honest, there are far worse places that teenagers could be going than this little corner of Gaia Online (obviously guilds and the RP forums haven't been checked in some time), much less the internet in general. I mean hell, at least it's not like 4chan ALL the time around here.

Very valid point, just remember this is a logical reason to solve an illogical problem. At least illogical to most people.

In my opinion, Gaia shouldn't cave to the spam and the trolls in the GD. Don't cater to that 'community,' they're breaking the rules! It doesn't need a rename, it needs a few vicious moderators to make sure actually discussion threads stay and the rest gets booted.

I agree with this. As the mods have expressed a worry about displacing or upsetting the current GD culture, I think the solution would be to make a separate subforum for those users (frankly, one in the Chatterbox would be most appropriate, but you could also have a "GD off-topic" subforum for getting to know people beyond the discussion). The GD has been a cesspool for a number of years now and I would very much like to see it cleaned up and restored to the way it was when I first joined- not eliminated and removed due to constant rulebreaking and a moderation staff who simply can't keep up with the pace of threads in there.
idk why people care so much its an anime forum like what are ur priorities omfg

The reality of the situation is this, though: the GD is an alienating place now that really doesn't match its original purpose. The mods are attempting to find a common ground between making a place for those of us who want to have an actual discussion without participating in the GD culture (which, let's face it, is very off-putting to most newcomers and most people over the age of 16). I think, by maintaining the current GD and creating a place for a different kind of discussion that doesn't currently have a home, they've done a pretty good job- because it's not entirely about the members of the GD d: If they really wanted to, they could just go on a thread deletion/topic banning spree to put a stop to the current GD atmosphere that pretty frequently and blatantly breaks the forum's stated rules!

If you mean what the mods are doing, I don't think it's a bad thing and I very much support it.

If you mean the current GD culture, to my eyes and to most outside of the GD, it's supposed to be a forum for general discussion- not a forum for a very specific segment of the Gaian population to perpetuate their particular culture and shut out others who may just be looking for a chat. So I don't understand why you're against those of us who just want to have a short, simple conversation. Think of it this way- it'll keep us out of your hair, and you can picdrop to your little hearts' content c:

No, I meant the last thing, about going on a delete/ban spree and scorching the digital Earth.

Adding to that, dunno what you seem to perceive of me, but I'm of a mindset where I converse and occasionally drop comical verbage or comment on fellow skull-faced enthusiasts. Otherwise I think many of the "popular" crowd are just doing things because they haven't been told not to. lol teenagers.

Oh, of course I totally don't think that's a bad thing and frankly I've wanted to torch the GD since it went to crap in '05. But unfortunately, Gaia is a business and they're very much in the business of keeping their members happy (even the ones I personally don't care for), so I don't think outright deleting the GD or banning its regulars would ever occur to them.
