is there some difference that makes one type a sun roof and one type a moon roof? or is it like if ur driving during the day its a sunroof and at night its a moon roof? is it just personal preference? is it what the car maker's personal preference is? or what? confused

a moon roof is made of glass.

a sun roof blocks the light.

strictly speaking, most cars use a combination sun/moon roof, the glass being the moon roof, the fabric slider that blocks light being the sun roof.

My parents car has a moon roof. It's just a sheet of glass that doesn't open. Apposed to a sun roof which opens.

Its pretty much the same thing, but Ford introduced the product as a Moon roof on their 70's cars and soon after other companies started calling the option as a sunroof, more of a generic term. In general a Moonroof is just another form of a sunroof, It doesn't matter if it can open or not. This can be a similar case to Cars that have electronic stability program (ESP) or dynamic stability control (DSC), ESC,etc. Its all the same thing which is "Stability control" as a generic term, but companies call them different things.

Already said before by the above post, but yeah, just to re-affirm. No difference, its just a matter of what the builder felt like calling it for marketing purposes.

And then there's the sky roof, which kicks the everloving s**t out of the other two kinds-

in other words, drive a convertible and proceed to laugh at all the other poor assholes on the road.
