See, thats what i tbought, that vw ownded audi, but being afraid of being wrong AGAIN i just decidsd to play it safe xD
The only real reason im interested in rx7 is the rotory engine in it, i beleive it had a two rotor engine (its equivalent would be 4 cylinder, i think)
my dad is building a lotus super seven, or what most people identify as caterhams remake. He used a rx7 (gsl(?) Rotory, sounds amazing. But yeah,
If i cant find a nice mr2 in a couple months ill get a legacy, most likely. My only problem with the legacy gt is that there is little room for enhancement without breaking the stock engine. Or atleast thats what ive heard.

The rotary engine is the feature of the RX series. I believe RX stands for "Rotary eXperiment", or atleast that's what the speculation is. Either way, it'd be a very good idea to learn about the mechanics of the rotary engine before purhasing one. They are VERY expensive to repair. They require a rotary specialists for complicated jobs. Rotary specialists arent as common as most RX owners would like. Also, Rotary engines, for your purposes, are subordinate to piston.
The MR2 would be your best bet. Even the naturally aspirated version has lots of potential for power in the high-RPM range for the displacwment. The 4A was ahead of it's time.
The Legacy engine is a strong engine, it can very easily handle lots of power, but it's weakness is that it is weak to high dynamic compression. The Legacy engine is a 2.5L engine. It is the same engine in the 2.0L Turbo Impreza, except bored out with other changes to accomodate the larger displacement. This boring made the cylinder walls substantially thinner, along with the gaskets. My friend used to have a Impreza with a 2.5L Legacy engine thrown in, it made 430 HP at 13.8 psi. He sold the Subaru afterwords for a Mustang; the 2.5L cannot handle high dynamic compression stock.
You can have a very strong 2.5L engine, and there is lots of room for improvement. It depends what you want to do though. What kind of modifications would you want to do? Where do you want to make your extra power? In what system of the car are you looking to improve?
Well it all depends on what id rather have, top speed or quick acceleration, and i think id go for quick accel. If a car already has a turbo, good, i dont know how much psi the stock turbo on 93+ turbo makes, i wanna say 8 or more...not sure, but! If naturally aspirated, id go for the supercharger. Sure it draws power from the engine, but the low end power/ torque help accel (power yes?) If i did want to go crazy on power, and money wasnt a problem, i miiight swap out the I4 for a small(er) displacement v6, the only thing i dont like about that idea is, i feel like thatd ruin the car. Besides turbocharging it or supercharging it, straight pipe it, (that I4 straight piped sounds like a pissed off porsche,) put in a good intake etc. But i wouldnt just focus on power, no thats silly, id deffinetly put better brakes, shocks, etc, helping the car handle better, because handling, atleast to me, means a lot. Top Speed vs. Acceleration? Its not that black and white. That is only true for gear ratios, every else, it is far more complicated.
Not all superchargers bring in "low end torque". Fir example; Centrifugal superchargers make their highest flow rates at higher RPM. It is not that black and white again unfortunately...
All intake and exhaust piping mods are take from one RPM range and give it to somewhere else :/ Yet again, not so black and white...
Improved braking and handling are a good idea. Brakes, fortunately, are pretty much the most black and white system on a car to understand.
Ofcourse ofcourse, I mean, you have cars that take time to get to their top speed, but their high speed is high, whilecars are very quick to their top speed but their top speed is lower, and its obvious that those are the two extremes, yes? But the two are, more or less intertwined, because you can have both at a certain point, depending on what you have, and then tuning your carand so on. LUCKILY, i have someone who can guide me through changing my car. Because, honestly and obviously xD Im no expert, but i like to consider that i am knowledgable, to an extent.. xD
Mmm I wouldnt operate on a "high top speed = low acceleration" and vice versa principle. The Chevrolet Corvette has both high top speed and fast acceleration. The only place where that principle is valid is gear ratios.
