See, thats what i tbought, that vw ownded audi, but being afraid of being wrong AGAIN i just decidsd to play it safe xD

The only real reason im interested in rx7 is the rotory engine in it, i beleive it had a two rotor engine (its equivalent would be 4 cylinder, i think)
my dad is building a lotus super seven, or what most people identify as caterhams remake. He used a rx7 (gsl(?) Rotory, sounds amazing. But yeah,

If i cant find a nice mr2 in a couple months ill get a legacy, most likely. My only problem with the legacy gt is that there is little room for enhancement without breaking the stock engine. Or atleast thats what ive heard.

Ah don't worry, you'll learn about this stuff in due time smile Cars are a very complicated subject.

The rotary engine is the feature of the RX series. I believe RX stands for "Rotary eXperiment", or atleast that's what the speculation is. Either way, it'd be a very good idea to learn about the mechanics of the rotary engine before purhasing one. They are VERY expensive to repair. They require a rotary specialists for complicated jobs. Rotary specialists arent as common as most RX owners would like. Also, Rotary engines, for your purposes, are subordinate to piston.

The MR2 would be your best bet. Even the naturally aspirated version has lots of potential for power in the high-RPM range for the displacwment. The 4A was ahead of it's time.

The Legacy engine is a strong engine, it can very easily handle lots of power, but it's weakness is that it is weak to high dynamic compression. The Legacy engine is a 2.5L engine. It is the same engine in the 2.0L Turbo Impreza, except bored out with other changes to accomodate the larger displacement. This boring made the cylinder walls substantially thinner, along with the gaskets. My friend used to have a Impreza with a 2.5L Legacy engine thrown in, it made 430 HP at 13.8 psi. He sold the Subaru afterwords for a Mustang; the 2.5L cannot handle high dynamic compression stock.

You can have a very strong 2.5L engine, and there is lots of room for improvement. It depends what you want to do though. What kind of modifications would you want to do? Where do you want to make your extra power? In what system of the car are you looking to improve?

Well it all depends on what id rather have, top speed or quick acceleration, and i think id go for quick accel. If a car already has a turbo, good, i dont know how much psi the stock turbo on 93+ turbo makes, i wanna say 8 or more...not sure, but! If naturally aspirated, id go for the supercharger. Sure it draws power from the engine, but the low end power/ torque help accel (power yes?) If i did want to go crazy on power, and money wasnt a problem, i miiight swap out the I4 for a small(er) displacement v6, the only thing i dont like about that idea is, i feel like thatd ruin the car. Besides turbocharging it or supercharging it, straight pipe it, (that I4 straight piped sounds like a pissed off porsche,) put in a good intake etc. But i wouldnt just focus on power, no thats silly, id deffinetly put better brakes, shocks, etc, helping the car handle better, because handling, atleast to me, means a lot. Make the car lighter all in all. Overall, overhauling the car (:

Top Speed vs. Acceleration? Its not that black and white. That is only true for gear ratios, every else, it is far more complicated.

Not all superchargers bring in "low end torque". Fir example; Centrifugal superchargers make their highest flow rates at higher RPM. It is not that black and white again unfortunately...

All intake and exhaust piping mods are take from one RPM range and give it to somewhere else :/ Yet again, not so black and white...

Improved braking and handling are a good idea. Brakes, fortunately, are pretty much the most black and white system on a car to understand.

Ofcourse ofcourse, I mean, you have cars that take time to get to their top speed, but their high speed is high, whilecars are very quick to their top speed but their top speed is lower, and its obvious that those are the two extremes, yes? But the two are, more or less intertwined, because you can have both at a certain point, depending on what you have, and then tuning your carand so on. LUCKILY, i have someone who can guide me through changing my car. Because, honestly and obviously xD Im no expert, but i like to consider that i am knowledgable, to an extent.. xD

Mmm I wouldnt operate on a "high top speed = low acceleration" and vice versa principle. The Chevrolet Corvette has both high top speed and fast acceleration. The only place where that principle is valid is gear ratios.

No matter which car you get, come back here and let us know :p The Garage has some very smart guys here despite being on a Gaia forum. Crimmy knows a lot; Brother Kam knows a lot; Indesirables knows a lot; I know a nice bit. We could whip a good plan up for you to get exactly what you want.

What 5.7L V8? What year are we in? The 80s?

First, it aint mine unfortunately, I'm a youngin like you :p its my dads. Its a 6.2L LS3 V8 with a Vortech Centrifugal Supercharger running at 8 psi, intercooled and methanol injected, running street slicks as well as with the Z51 handling package. Of course the standard headers and intake improvements were made for a higher optimal flow rate rating. It makes about 675 HP at the wheel and clears the quarter mile in around 10 s.

And yep, The Garage forum isnt the most active forum, but it's here and I find it a pretty good section. Stick around if you like cars, you might learn something new :p The only reason I know so much about cars is because I studied, studied, studied some more, worked on cars, then studied a bit more. The the forums are nice to look at too :p

675 horsepower... hmm... sounds good xD
how come he chose to put in a centrifugal supercharger and not a (twin) screw supercharger? Im sure you get more pressure from screw right?

You do not get more pressure from screw; any supercharger (centrifugal, twin screw, whipple) type is capable of high boost; its more of a question of the size of the supercharger and efficiency. A bigger and more efficient supercharger will flow more air than a smaller less efficient one.

He chose centrifugal because he didn't want to have to change his hood to accomodate for the top-mount piece. The car looks 100% stock, it is a sleeper by Corvette standards. Centrifugal superchargers also get better fuel economy at low RPM as they arent boosting much.

Its the same car as the Mitsubishi Eclipse. They're okay. Low on power, cheap... Kinda like Honda Civic's but with better looks, less gas mileage and a lot more crank walk. Which is bad.

Just get the MR2 or Legacy.

Consider the Pontiac Fiero as well. They're like MR2's, but cheaper, lighter, and they have the godly asset of a large engine bay.

Just google Pontiac Fiero + insert large SBC engine here. They have fit LS7s, LS3s, LS4s, LS2s, LS1s, LS6s the entire Gen I series of SBCs, as well as the SC 3800 series.

Pontiac Fiero with a 3800 SC can be had for under 10k DONE. It has the ability to beat the Chevrolet Corvette in the 1/8th mile, and theres a video to prove that too, but Im on my phone so you're gonna have to wait to get it.

The main reason the Corvette loses to that build in the 1/8th is that the Corvette has a very tall ratio gearbox built for top speed; but the Fiero still pulls.

Look into it.

Hey, not a bad ideajust,
A friend of mine actually bought one, and if your not looking to swap out the engine, (even though an Ls motor in a fiero sounds amazing) like my friend, that four cylinder gets you fo sixty in 8+ seconds, and maybe its just his car, but the car is somewhat-unreliable, and i think its kinda..ugly? :s
Then again, hearing that i could swap out the 4 cyl. For a v8.... sounds like a serious sleeper,

It is an extremely stealthy sleeper in that sense.

That four cylinder is a dog in my opinion. The Iron Duke; heavy and old technology. The engine isnt the main enabler in a half-okay 0-60 time, it's the car's lightweight. Either way, 0-60 in 8 isnt fast.

The Fiero is an extremely reliable car; with the Iron Duke, the L44 engine, or any SBC engine whatsoever. It has a bad reputation of engine fires, which, in reality, only 0.07% of the Fiero's ever produced had an engine fire. The new 2013 Honda Accord actually has a higher rate of engine fire (there was a recall for the Accords due to risk of engine fire. Just incase you didnt hear it on the radio.) The cars are very good cars.

If you think it's ugly... Well thats your opinion, but I find it purty.

Its a good competitor for the MR2; seeing as I love V8s, I would choose the MR2. If you EVER plan on getting serious power out of your future car and it comes down to Fiero vs MR2; get the MR2. If you are keeping them more or less stock, get the MR2.

Exactly!
I mean ive seen Fieros made to look good but... i think the mr2 is prettier.
I doubt it but, is it possible to put a v8 in a mr2?, i seriously doubt it, but then again ive never heard of anyone not trying it, but then again the engine bay is.... small for the most part.
a v8 in a small Japanese sports car, just wouldnt be right xD but itd be awsoome.

Mm, probably will, the only reason I consider it, considering its like an eclipse gsx, its all wheel drive.
but probably will go for mr2, Midengine<3

It has been done. There is a Toyota MR2 with a Northstar engine. It is a one of a kind. For all intents and purposes, you cannot put a V8 into a MR2 unless you have a very big pocketbook and lots of know-how. You can put a V6 in though.

Lots of Japanese cars have V8s. V10s too.
My first car was a piece of crap, but I loved it. xD

A 1992 Mazda mx-3. Thing had WAY to many problems.
