I know for sure that I want to get my truck lifted, but the question is do I want a body lift or a suspension lift? I have received mixed reviews from both, so I want to know what you guys think.
I have had a handful of people say that the body lift is better, and a handful have told me the same about suspension lifts.

This is the truck I will be lifting:

I want something similar to this, but its a bit more then I want to spend:

It is just about 10 grand to do to my truck, just a bit over my overall spending l want to put into the truck. I have 6 grand that I have been saving for this truck, and I don't want to blow it all in one go. I have about $2,500 worth of damage to repair from last winter on the one side that I need to take care of as well.

Maybe this, and some new tires? It would end up similar to this, but I would go with different wheels:

I like how this looks as well:

I would be doing the work with my boyfriend, so I really just have to pick the setup that I want, and find the best price. I'm really torn between the two.
What do you think would look best/work best for my truck?
Also, any input at all on lifting vehicles would be appreciated.

It really depends on how much lift you want and what you are going to do. If you're just lifting a couple of inches for more aesthetics I would do a mild body lift (2-3 inches maximum). For a larger lift and/or hardcore wheeling definitely do a suspension lift.

Full pre-runner suspension and custom front and rear quarter panels, probably into the 5 digit range.

If you're still looking for some ideas on how to build up your truck I highly recommend checking out the Tacoma tech section of YotaTech.com as well as the build-up section. There's is also a vendor section that has nearly every 4x4 Toyota aftermarket company and reviews. The members are very friendly and knowledgeable, so don't be afraid to ask questions.
Do you really want to take your truck off-road? Or just fit "cool" tires on it?

I take it off reading several times a year. I also have another daily driver do I'm not too worried about having it out of commission while I work on it.

Well than a body lift is kinda pointless isn't it? It'll give you more body clearance, but the suspension travel will remain the same. So why not go for more clearance and suspension setup better suited for what you're doing.
Suspension job, all the way, and if you're serious about off-roading, why not do it -good- while you're at it?
Suspension lift. Just for reference, and always something to keep in the back of your mind. 1" at the control arm = 2" of ride height.
Definitely depends on what you're doing with the vehicle.
If it's purely aesthetic you should be good with a body lift but if you're taking it offroad or putting any real functional straining into the lift, go with suspension.
body lift is purely cosmetic.

suspension lift actually has a positive effect on performance.
