- Theo couldn’t help but allow a smile to cross his face as Cory apologized. He really did not want to be the first to apologize, especially considering the fact that he hadn’t started the fight this time. Okay, so he could have stood up for her sooner than he did when Matt was obviously trying to be a d**k; however, she did not need to say what she did. It wasn’t like he asked why she was friends with Kyle, which was even a bigger deal because they were opposite sexes and Kyle probably knew Cory better than Theo did. This time, Theo listened to Cory’s explanation instead of interrupting her with rude comments, as he had done earlier that day. The teenager’s smile broadened as she almost said the word. Theo didn’t see what the big deal was on who said it first. It was obvious they felt that way about one another. Reaper simply did not see why he had to say such a sappy and demasculating word as ‘love’. He decided to let her go with that near slip-up. He had done the same thing the night before and she hadn’t said anything about it. He would return the favor.
”I know Cory,” Theo said in a comforting tone, rubbing her forearm lightly with his hand. ”I’ll talk to him okay. He’s my best friend and you’re my girlfriend. The guy is just going to have to deal.” It seemed that having Matt as a friend was beginning to become a lot of trouble. If only the guy would be cool with Cory, things would not be nearly as difficult. Half the arguments that they had so far this week had revolved around Matt in one way or another. Like today, if Theo hadn’t invited Matt then his time with Cory at the mall might have been an enjoyable one. But no, instead half the date was spent with Matt discretely insulting Cory and the later half was spent with the two arguing about Matt and his friendship with Theo. Even now, the mentioning of Matt’s text caused a negative reaction from Cory. Reaper didn’t say anything about this reaction though, for Theo had been annoyed by the text as well. The safety nodded as Cory said that she would think about attending the party. As unbelievable as it sounded, Theo didn’t care what they did, as long as he was with her.
Theo leaned forward and listened as Cory explained how her college course was going so far over the summer semester. Initially, a smile crossed his face as she said that it was going well. It was nice to know that she was doing great in a class that was above the high school level of education. However, this smile soon faded when he realized that she had been lying and actually hated it. Theo listened intently as she explained her various problems that were associated with this one course at Boston College. That was one subtle way that Theo had changed. He actually listened and cared about someone’s life other than his own and occasionally Matt’s. It seemed that Cory simply brought out the best of him. When Cory was done explaining, Theo allowed a small smile to cross his face. He reached over the table and rubbed her hand affectionately with the thumb of his. ”Cory, you’re the smartest, hardest working girl that I know,” Theo said honestly, locking eyes with his girlfriend. ”I know for a fact that you are going to do great. And as far as missing me goes, I can always drive up in the civic and visit you during the week when I don’t have to work.”
As Theo finished what he had to say, Cory’s phone buzzed, Theo pulled back his hand as Cory reached for her phone, nodding slightly as she said that it was Kyle. Theo was still unsure of how he felt about the whole Kyle thing. The guy texted her just as much as Theo did, which kind of threatened the safety. Kyle was a nicer person than Theo and knew much more about Cory than he did. If he even had the slightest feelings for the newspaper chick, Theo thought that she would pick him over Theo. That was half the reason he wouldn’t say it. He was afraid that after he said it, she might still leave him for Kyle and make him feel like a dumbass for saying it. However, these thoughts always made him feel guilty and he never dwelled on them for long. There was no way there was an attraction between Cory and Kyle. Absolutely no way, right?
“Okay, let’s go this party.”
These words brought a smile to Reaper’s face. It was nice to see that Cory was taking his advice and lightening up some. Perhaps Matt would stop being such a jerk if Theo was more present at parties. As Cory gathered up her things, Theo did the same. The thought that Kyle had swayed Cory’s decision of whether or not to go to the party did not even cross his mind. He simply thought that she was going to keep him happy. Throwing his Cougar rugby windbreaker and grabbing his football jacket in one hand, Theo allowed himself to chuckle as Cory commented on how she should return him to Matt. He wrapped an arm around her waist and placed a small peck on her forehead. ”You’re so awesome babe.” Theo said in a sweet tone before feeling a vibration in his pocket. Pulling out the device, he read over the text message from Matt before laughing. Why was this guy acting like such a b***h?
”You would think that HE was my girlfriend,” Theo joked, showing Cory his phone with a smirk on his face. After he had given her a sufficient amount of time to read the text, he quickly formulated a response before pressing the send key. He slipped the phone back into his pocket and continued to walk with Cory towards the mall entrance. He only hoped that remainder of the night would be a good one. He and Cory had gotten off to a rocky start on their date, he was looking forward to finishing strong.
You are such a little b***h!
