Erethra Island. A tiny paradise; a gem of an island in the middle of the warm Carribean Sea. The island itself is only about two miles across, shaped like a crescent moon. There are a few inhabitants that live peaceful, happy lives in thier tropical haven. Most of them own boats instead of cars and live off of the land and sea around them.
But the islanders of Erethra have strange happenings, being cut off from the rest of the world. They seem to attract many odd storms and shipwrecks that crash on the coral reefs surrounding Erethra. The survivors of these shipwrecks don't usually leave the island; they find themselves pulled in as if by a strong tide.
The islanders know that the shipwrecked stay because Erethra is enchanted.
Magic permeates the land, sea, and sky; it makes the fruits ripe, the sky cloudless and blue, and the sea calm and crystalline. And those with magical powers, some that are not even human, feel drawn to the central point of Erethra. This is a place where those people can live in peace, accepted by humans.
But why? Why is Erethra so completely magical? The merpeople, of course.
The last real great city from another civilization, one underneath the waves, is built right in Crescent Moon Bay. The reefs shield the great citadel from onlookers, while underneath the merpeople thrive. They do come up to the shore, taking on a human form; and interact with the land creatures.
But trouble has stirred the seas in the peaceful Erethra society. Government adgents have been arriving at Erethra slowly and steadily ever scince a month ago, a mermaid swimming far off of the island's coast was caught in a fisheman's net and discovered. She was Princess Syrrin, the bold and adventurous heir to the merpeople throne. Since then, more and more merpeople are slowly disappearing; those who remain fear for thier species' survival.
To make matters worse, all the merpeople disappearing has been making Erethra sick. Slowly, the island is losing its natural beauty, and storms and rough seas are becoming more and more frequent. The islanders are uneasy, and want the government to leave, but they can do nothing, only watch uneasily.
So what will become of the merpeople? Of Erethra? will the world's last sanctuary of magic be destroyed forever? The choice is up to you. Grab a keyboard and type away' the fate of Erethra rests in you!
