[Escape My Reality]

Nyx Contancarea

The shining purple scales from the tiny mermaid's tail glittered in the sunlight that shined down on the sparkling ocean. Nyx sighed softly while she swam to the surface. Nyx just floated there and stared up at the sky. She was bored and she had Adrian on her mind. She looked down and saw the silver necklace he had given her and it made her sigh once more. She hated not being able to see his smiling face every day.

Nyx's thoughts had wondered off, but she snapped back to reality as she heard some of the fish below her speaking to her. Nyx quickly went under the water and beside the fish. "Is there something wrong?" She asked softly hoping everything was alright with this fish. The fish seemed to nod, then swam away. Well, that was a waste of my time... Nyx thought while she swam away from the fish and towards the island.

As Nyx approached the island, she shifted back into her human self and walked on the sand to the rock she was sitting on before she went into the water. She rested herself on rock and stared up at the clear blue sky. She smiled and closed her soft eyes. She really loved today so far. It was perfect for her. She sighed quietly while her mind began to wonder about Adrian again.

He felt the magic flow through his body. He thought to himself, "Is someone healing me?" After the feeling faded, his eyes opened as he looked up at the blue sky. He could see the local gulls flying around. He sat up and rubbed his head, which was surprising for him since he didn't feel any headache at all. He looked in front of him and saw what looked like a girl. "Hey, what happened? I remember slipping and I had a really bad headache. Oh... right. I fell in the water." he said to himself. He looked at the girl. "Excuse me. Are you the one that helped me?"

Aera nodded but remained silent, sitting in the lapping waves. "My name is Aera." she said slowly. "What's yours?" Aera knew already that her father wouldn't approve fo her befriending a human; after all, she couldn't blame him. It was hard to tell the islanders from government spies.

Aera swished her tail ambsentmindedly, the water followiing in swirling patterns. She looked up at the sky and thought.

"Oh, my name is Marthus. I'm a local wizard around this island." He saw the girl swish her tail and jumped in surprise. "You're a mermaid?! Wow! I never really thought I would actually meet one! My old master used to tell me that mermaids had very potent ingredients for potions!" He actually seemed very excited to meet such a creature. But then a noise caught his attention. He looked over to see another girl nearby.

Aera gave Marthus a strange look. "Excuse me? What, you want to chop me up and put me in a blender for your mad science expreiments or something?" She withdrew a little bit, put off by Marthus' strange manner. "And how could you not meet a mermaid? You live on Erethra Island; we populate this place more than humans do,"

Aera looked up suddely; she heard yelling and then a thud close by. She tried not to laugh as a girl fell face first in the sand near her. "Are you all right?" the mermaid asked, a hand over her mouth to keep from smiling.

"Science? I'm a wizard. We use magic. Science is a whole other field." he said while shaking his head. "And no I'm not going to chop you up. I just said mermaids had very powerful potion ingredients is all. Mostly its just the hair and scales that are used." He looked back at the other girl. "And who, pray tell, are you?"

Aera blushed a bit at Marthus' words. "Well, you shoud at least work on your wording and make it sound as if you aren't going to turn me into sushi." Aera looked up at the girl, smiling a bit at he grin. "You don't like sushi, do you?" she asked, and Aera laughed, a melodious sound.

The healing process was just about done, and Aera dragged herself out of tthe water to dry off. She ran a hand over her body, the water floating off of her and dumping iteslf back in the sea, leaving Aera completely dry. Her body seemed to blur and then suddenly Aera's tail was gone, replaced with legs, and her hair faded back to blonde although her eyes remained a deep and twinkling aquamarine. Aera wore a simple mauve tank top that showed her stomach and a pair of short jean shorts, her dog tag necklace around her wrist as usual and her hair pulled up in a ponytail.

Pushing herself to her feet, Aera smiled at Melody. "Well, my name's Aera. Nice to meet ya, too, Melody." Aera smiled and looked out over the ocean, a boat's horn sounding in the distance.

Clair looked at the sea it had been a long time since she had seen this much water, a little over 150 years. Clair hadn't been around people much either. She sat on a rock far from where the water could reach her and brought up a small flame over her hand Why me? she thought its been to long no human or half human should be so lonely.
Then she saw Ryu flying over her "Hi Ryu!" Clair said a little bit excited maybe good news, all she had heard from him recently was large ships were coming closer to the island and capturing merpeople. "Any good news?" she asked it seemed he was expecting this and he shook his head with disappointment. "I guess I am gonna have to find one and ask them about it then." She said and rubbed his head and hopped on him.

Clair soon saw two on a beach talking to a human she had Ryu land kind of far from them and slowly walked closer to them. The closer the water got the more fear rose in her pleasedon'tdiepleasedon'tdie Clair repeated to herself and then walked up to one of the mermaids hoping she wouldn't run away.

He saw the mermaid transform and said to himself, "So that's why I didn't notice any around this island. If I knew this sooner, I could have asked for a scale or some hair for my spells." He stood up as well and looked up at his hut. He looked back at the girls. "Well I'd like to stay and chat. But I have some spell practice to do. But since you saved my life, I'll give you and your friends free service for life. Just ask if you need any help." He waved to them and ran back up the hill to his hut. "See you around!"

Aera smiled and shook her head in amusement. That's one weird kid, she thought with a grin.

Turning around to make her way back to the main beach, Aera found herself face to face with a girl she didn't recongnise, which was odd because there were so few people on Erethra. Aera smioled and took a step back to giver hersef some space. "Um, hello. I'm Aera," the mermaid looked at the new girl and said, "Uh, is there something you want?" she asked tentatively.

Wisteria Gwendolyn

What you see on the outside is not always the same as the inside.

Wisteria awoke as rough hands were carrying her down a long, dull hallway. She was dry; her tail was gone, but Wisteria was sweating and tired. She didn't try to resist the man's grip; Wisteria had given up long ago on thoughts of escape.

As the end of the hallway neared, a sudden blue light met Wisteria's eyes and suddennly the rough hands were tossing her into a large, undecorated glass tank full of seawater. There were observation decks abov and below the water, and people in white coats scribbled notes from behind the glass, examining the merpeople that swam, broken, in the tank.

Wisteria felt her shiny purple tail forming, her black hair fading from black to purple with a streak of pruest silver in it, and her silver circlet resting above her head. The silver was a sign that she was a moon spirit, a mermaid with special powers. Although, in such a state, Wisteria couldn't use her powers, her spirit was broken and there were too many guards around, trained to kill.

The water acted like a powerful medicine to Wisteria; water always had. In twenty minutes her fever was gone and her scales and purple eyes were no longer as dull as before. Wisteria thought back to what the moon had told her in the operating room (she often had conversations with the moon. It was her thing.). It seemed like a good idea; the scientists didn't know about her mindreach ability, enambling her to transmit messages to others in a time of need. Well, now seemed to be a time of pretty much dire need, so Wisteria closed her eyes and focused her energy, her eyes glowing silver as she worked the magic.

People of Erethra, Wisteria's voice echoed in the minds of every kind sould around the island. I and my brethren are bein held captive on a small reasearch facility two miles west of Erethra Island; we are in dire need of help. Please, anything you can do will be greatly appreciated.

Wisteria sighed as she sank to the bottom of the tank, her eyes and scales a dull purple again. the message had been sent very far, and Wisteria's eyelids began to droop from exaustion. A little light started blinking the the scientist's glass bubble, and they sterted to scribble furiously on thier clipboards as Wisteria passed out.
