- It was supposed to be a good night. She had met with Shaant earlier to let him know that she had invited Justin to the concert, as his girlfriend had been unable to come. Everything seemed to have been going as planned and, once again, the red head had actually believed that Pinky and the Brain had managed to take over the world get exactly what they wanted. In her mind, after just one night, Justin would see what he missing out on as longas he stayed with Hyori. After all, she wasn't even that good of an actress The only reason she got the main role in this newest film was due to the push for the film world to become more culturally diverse. She just happened to be the first non-white girl with sex appeal to audition. The role was practically handed to her. The poor girl would probably actually start to believe she had some talent and as soon as she tried making it in Hollywood, she would have an emotional breakdown when she realized that no one actually wanted her.
However, if Jane was going to try and figure out the reliability of her assumptions off her current track record of predictions, then she was most likely wrong. The fair skinned grl had predicted that the night of the concert would run as smoothly as a hot knife through butter but, in the end, things hadn't ended as smoothly as she would have liked. In fact, it had been down right embarrassing. She had been hanging out with Shaant beforehand, talking about their usual musings. Though, as of late the topic of Hollywood and fame had become an understood hazard topic. Until she had proof of her own talent in the form of a lead role in a TV show or movie, she was going to avoid that topic like the plague. After a while, she had received a text from Justin and went and brought him back stage. She was hoping that her best friend and him would get more face time (as that was probably the only reason the Dreamer had come), but only after a quick hello, Shaant had to run out on stage. The red head thought that she would be able to keep a conversation between the med student and herself. After all, she was a people person. She could normally strike up a conversation with anyone and make them instantly lower their guards. But when she was left alone with him, all words seemed to evade her grasp. Jane didn't know what to say and later couldn't even remember what she had said. However, it was very clear that it hadn't been very interesting, as the air between them suddenly grew very awkward.
If it wasn't bad enough that the guy she liked now thought that she was some washed up actress incapable of social interaction, some guy came up to him and started picking a fight. Right before her eyes, an all out fight broke out between the guys. Jane was about to step in to break up the fight but then little Miss Perfect showed up. At that point in time all she could think about was how Hyori wasn't even supposed to be there. Eventually the fight disintegrated, but the Actress ended up leaving with the Dreamer, leaving the Former Star to fend for herself. She tried to enjoy the concert, she really did. Shaant's band was actually really good and he was becoming successful in his own right. Soon enough he would be financially independent, if he wasn't already.
But two key facts always nagged at her. For one, it always bothered her how it seemed that with her fading career, his seemed to flourish. Back when they were seven, their roles were practically reversed. He was the one that was watching her do amazing things that only a select few of children got to take a part in. Now, a little more than a decade and a half later, she was the nobody and he was the somebody. He had screaming fan girls that would do anything, including strip for fifteen minutes of recognition from the star. Compared to her, plain Jane; an actress that fell from grace to rock bottom as soon as she hit puberty. No casting director ever wanted an awkward teenager that was still growing into their body. And as she looked up at Shaant, a lead guitarist from some other popular rock band, she couldn't help but hate him. She was jealous, but the girl knew that she could never do anything to hurt him. He was her best friend, and only friend. Which brings up the second point. He didn't seem to understand just how much she needed him, and it was much more than she would care to admit. Every time he left her at a club or a party, it was just another act of betrayal. He was feeding her to the piranhas of the entertainmen world. After all, nowadays all she was was a punch line on late night television and no one wants to be the person to associate with a leper. All she needed was someone to prove to everyone that she had more talent then ever and could compete with the gorgeous women of Hollywood. And Shaant just didn't seem to be the one willing to play that role.
Though, she couldn't blame him. He had better things to do than hang out with his child hood friend. He was older now and had far different interests than what he had had when he was younger. It would be unrealistic to expect that their friendship would continue without changes. So, she never said anything to Shaant. Jane didn't want to be the nagging best friend, afraid then that she truly would lose him. The red head watched the band until they were done their set before leaving. There was no point in saying goodbye to him. For one, he didn't care and two, he probably wouldn't remember in the morning anyways. She walked out of the entrance alone, wearing a Tell All Tuesday band shirt and skinny jeans, like just another band groupie. Oh how the mighty had fallen. She proceeded over to her car, the only semblance of her former glory. Without a backwards glance, she slid into her car and sped off back to her apartment where she would spend the night with only the company of Ben and Jerry and a good horror movie.
After Another Lonely Night -->
She went through her usual morning routine, nothing of significance; work out, shower, brush teeth, hair, and makeup. It was the same routine she had been doing for years, and she always finished before most people were just waking up. But that was Jane. The red head never let a minute go to waste. After all, life is about timing. Eventully she pulled on a lace camisole and a pair of skinny jeans. By the front door of her loft, she made a small pile of items she needed to bring out with her that day, including a boyfriend cardigan, a pair of Osiris shoes, and a tanned leather satchel. Just as she moved into her kitchen to make herself some breakfast, her phone began to ring to the tune of Word On the Street by Boys Will Be Boys. As soon as the beginning notes of the guitar played, she hung her head knowing exactly who it was. Letting out an irritated sigh, she reached out for her phone, unlocked the screen, just so that she could confirm that she had received a text from Hyori. The red head was tempted to throw her phone at the wall, but thought better of it. She knew what she had to do. Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.
Reading over the words, she tried to think how to respond. Every move around the other girl had to be precisely calculated. It took all her will to be nice as she sent out the text to the Actress.
Hey love
Don't worry. I had fun with
Justin. I just hope he enjoyed
it too. I have Dramatic Literature
today. What about you? Though
I would love to hang out it we
don't have a class together.
- Jane
Dear God. She felt like she was going to barf. Did she really just call Hyori love? What was worst was that she just agreed to hang out with the girl after classes. That was going to be pur hell. Jane would need an escape plan. Perhaps she could see if Shaant was up for hanging out that night. Speaking of the devil, just then her phone started ringing, this time it was the song Without You by Three Days Grace. The red head snapped out of her thoughts and quickly opened her text from the Rock star. Her shoulders slumped as her eyes moved over his words. He was wasted, nothing surprising. No doubt he was still entangled in a mess of bodies and limbs. What was worst was that he actually had had faith that she would be able to charm Justin enough to actually get into his pants. When in reality, she hadn't even managed to break through the awkward conversation stage of their relationship. Awesome. Opening up a new message, she started writing back to the Rock star.
Hey Pinky. I'm glad one of
us had a good night. I struck
out with Justin. I didn't even
get to first base. His girlfriend
showed up. I can't even get a
guy now. I have now hit rock
bottom. Feel free to come
kidnap me any time and bring
me back to Hollywood. By the
way do you think you can
take a night off from being a
celeb? We could hang out.
More importantly, do you need
to be picked up from wherever
you are right now? I have time
before class.
- Brain
Running a hand through her straight hair, she set her phone back on her kitchen island and went back to grabbing a bowl, the box of Cheerios, some strawberries and milk. She sat down at the bar and instinctively looked around the large loft and let out sigh. Being alone was something that she dealt with on a regular basis, something that she had just grown accustomed to over the years.
