A small town. Six young adults dying for some sort of excitement, some sort of stimulation. Though, it is very possible that they had not really wanted all of this.

Two more young adults, bringing more then the other six ever should've asked for.

It's all been strange since her party. Even stranger after the rave that wasn't a rave. All of the sudden, for all eight, everything seems like they're in a different world. And with three trying to learn, one trying to teach, one trying to get them to stray, and three caught up in the messes being left behind. But much too much is being skipped here, this story needs to start at the beginning.

If you were told that fairies were real, would you believe it?

What if you were told that you yourself were a fairy? A changling to be more specific. A fairy in the shell of a human body.

They're hardly ever aware of it to start with. Sure, they often know there's something different to who they are. But most people don't jump to the conclusion that they're magical creatures somehow stuck as humans.

And this? This all starts with a house party that got a little out of control. After all, word of parties spread fast in the small town, and no one really wants to pass up the chance for some sort of excitment. But even with things like this being the norm in town, the general oddness of the party could be sensed by those who were observant enough. Like the normally good girl hooking up with her potential boyfriend one second and hanging all a known drug dealer the next. Or how the mysterious boy who always seems to be strung out on dust is suddenly so drawn to and captivated by the normally quiet girl who's throwing the whole thing, and she likewise to him. So on and so forth, it was how it all started.

And then the rave, the ring of fire. Not everyone was there, only the ones meant to go through the change, the ones who aren't really human, who are fay. They were made aware of this at the ring of fire, as many have been time and time before. Some were relieved to know there was a reason for what they could do-- what they saw. Others saw this as a chance for power-- power that tends to warp a changling into a cutter. And a few are reluctant to believe it, and fight against every aspect of it, clinging to their human life the best they can.

Moving foward, this about the times after the ring of fire, as the fay learn more of who they are and what they can do from their guide, everything seems to tangle as human lives get left behind and people try to get them to stray from their paths. Where this path ultimately leads? No one can really say. Most are sure with the full granting of powers and the shedding of your human shell, you are then allowed to travel between the magical world of the fay and the human world. But until you can pass the tasks set before you by your guide, you're stuck in the middle, with diluted powers in the mortal realm in the limitations of a human body.

And not to mention that things have gotten a little bit complicated this time around. With a cutter trying to break their ring, relationships forming that shouldn't and humans being dragged into something that isn't at all safe for them, it's starting to seem like their tests aren't the real obstacles on their paths.

The Skeptic

Female - Changling - Taken

She has so much potential, no matter how much she'll deny it. Really she's a strong independent girl, and has been against all of this since the day her party spiraled out of control. Her quickly developed, close friendship with the ringer is the only thing that got her to go to the ring of fire. Yes, she's always been aware that there was something different, but with it revealed now, when she's forced to face it, she can only deny it. Deny, deny, deny. And at the same time she is too drawn to the ringer, the power hungry, hell even their guide, though she trys to hold total loathing for him and everything he tells them. The only thing she does better then deny? Cling to what she has left of her human life. Or more, the connections. In particular, her girlfriend, the suspicious. She can't tell the other anything, but she's trying to desprately hold one thing from her past life, though she knows that their relationship only gets more and more strained everyday.

The Power Hungry

Female - Changeling - Open

People always gave this girl a wide berth. They were too afraid of the pull the felt from her, and they were right to be. She's always known she was better then her human roots, though she could never tell in just what way. Now, it's not enough that she is different from the humans, she has to be the best in her ring of three, the best of all the other changlings in the other rings that were formed at the rave. She can't stand the attention the skeptic, who isn't even grateful for her power, always gets. For that matter, she can't stand the skeptic, or many other people really. All but one human get on her nerves these days, and that one human is the effected, her childhood friend. Of course, he's so caught up in the pet, she rarely gets the attention she wants from him anymore. And her need for power has her turning to the cutter, while playing like she is still loyal to her ring. From him she gets the real teachings of raw power, and what probably isn't a really good relationship, since he too has his investments in the pet. Then again, that is one of the reasons she's with him. That slut can't get everything.

The Ringer

Male - Changeling - Taken

Not many people know much about him. He showed up in town one day, and he doesn't like to go into his past much, so most people don't know a thing about where he came from. He's always known that there was something different about him, mostly because of the rings he's always seen, on those whose fates have been locked. It's a long story, one to be gone into later. The point is, because of it, he's always kept to himself, but that changed when he went to the house party and was suddenly drawn into his friendship with the skeptic. And we're not even to his odd relationship with the guide either. He was relieved at the rave, and he is the only reason the skeptic is willing to put up with all of this. He has his own problems, though none are with disbelief. More with the on off flirting with the guide. Really, it's not supposed to happen, and they both know it, since there are far more important things they're supposed to be doing. But you know how it goes. One thing leads to another and another... and well, another.

The Cutter

Male - Cutter - Reserved

His ring is in the past, it fell apart, the only two left of it are the guide and himself. And he? When his ring fell apart, he went looking for power while the guide fell off the grid. As stated before, looking for power that is not rightfuly yours in the fairy world twists you into a cutter, and then your only goal is to ruin it for the rest of the changlings. He'll do anything to cut off their way to Novala, to their real powers. And he does this by finding the one link in a ring that he can break, because a ring can't pass the tests to their powers as long as a cutter is a part of this ring. This is why he's drawing in the power hungry, because for all the power she wants, she is the weakest link in the ring. Little known fact? If you have a cutter in your ring, you can't pass through to Novala. Either the ring falls apart or you eliminate the cutter. And his thing with the pet? Well, he needs to have some leverage if it comes down to a fight. No one wants to hurt the humans, and she will do whatever he wants her to once she's completely his.

The Guide

Male - Fay - Taken

He's a rare case. His ring fell apart, yet here he is, full fledged fay, allowed to pass between the worlds and everything, though his role as a guide has kept him in the human world for just a bit longer. How he was able to pass through with no ring and a cutter in his former ring is another story for another day. Here's what you need to know for now. He may be a bit arrogant, but for the most part, he gets his job done and the points he needs to across. He probably does the least interacting with the humans, but one them always seems like they're about to hit him, especially the suspicious, who he's quick to always imply to that her girlfriend, the skeptic, might be done with her, and that's why she's so distant. His other activity when he's not screwing with skeptic's life? Is make a big mess in his own. Fay are supposed to have no need for all that love stuff, so on and so forth, but for most changlings, it's a big different story, having been humans for such a long period. Of course, a guide doing anything with one of his ring is something that is kinda forbidden, so the guide is often struggling with on and off flirting and... other things with the ringer.

The Pet

Female - Human - Taken

This was the only human to attend the ring of fire. Not that she has any idea what went on, the cutter had her completely blanked out on dust. The thing about her hanging off the cutter all the time? It makes no sense to any human that knows her, especially her boyfriend. Some days this good girl is completely normal, the way she used to always be. Other days? Other days she's completely out of it, ignoring her boyfriend and her other friends, strung out on dust and sticking with the cutter like she may be lost without him. And there's only one real reason for this. The cutter wants her as a pet. In the world of the fay, this is for the most part forbidden, but since when have the bad guys followed the rules? This girl seems to forever be on the edge of becoming what he wants, and she doesn't even know it. She's just lucky the effected is looking out for her, pulling her away from the cutter whenever he can. It doesn't help that she can never remember her time with the cutter.

The Suspicious

Female - Human - Taken

There is something up, and she knows it. Her friends, her girlfriend, everything has seemed different since her girlfriend, the skeptic, disapeared off to that rave one night without inviting her along. Her once close friend the pet is so wrapped up in either her boyfriend or in the cutter. And her girlfriend? Oh, she knows something has to be up, with the way their relationship has grown so strained, and how the skeptic is always hanging out with the power hungry, ringer, and guide, though she never would've before that out of control party she threw. All in all, she's suspicious of everything going on, and she's determined to find out what's going on. Of course, first she has to get past everyone blocking her way to finding out about what went on at that rave, and what's happening now.

The Effected

Male - Human - Open

Out of all the humans dealing with the mess that all of this, most would say this young man has the most to lose when it comes to dealing with the fay. His childhood best friend is getting stranger and stranger, always seeming obsessed with being the best at everything. And his girlfriend? Half the time he's not even sure if they are together, when she's with him one day, and the next people are telling him they've just seen his girlfriend all over that dealing loser the cutter. He's been trying to do everything he can to keep her away from him, but he only has so much control over the situation. And it doesn't help that the newest friend he's made, the ringer, seems to either be involved in things or knows what's going on and is refusing to actually give a full story on anything.

Changelings

a kind of Fay, who take the place of human children at birth, and who go through childhood and adolescence before finding out what they really are. They enter into rings and must pass the test before they are allowed to return to their full Fay selves.

Cutter

a changeling that strayed from it’s path, turning it into something evil, with the goal of breaking up rings, turning those changelings either into cutters, or killing them.

Dust

once used for the sole purpose of helping changelings get in touch with their powers more easily, but due to cutters, it has become the party drug of choice. Also, it is used to keep pets in dazes, making them easier to control.

Pet

outlawed many years ago in the Fay world, a pet is a human that does the bidding of the Fay. Now, only cutters create pets. Pets are kept under the influence of Dust, and tend to act as if nothing happened when they come out of the Dust dazes.

Ring

led by former changelings, Rings are how changelings learn about their powers and prepare for the test that will restore them to what they really are.
