CASSANDRA DIAE

LOCATION : Remington Manor
WITH : Dmitri, Ari, Leland, Zenithe, Isabella, Florian
OOC :
WEARING: Elegance

Cassandra turned to smile slyly at Dmitri as he muttered his insults and slammed the door, reaching down to pat Anna's hair dotingly as she did so. Such a man. Despite the fact that she had never cared for being shipped around from her father's house to her husband's house through arranged marriage, and how she laughed at the thought of any man trying to dominate her, she did enjoy having Dmitri be the head of their household. Frankly, he took care of the things that she had little care to meddle with. She preferred to live her immortal life and care for their 'children'. The logistics of running the household and managing of such, she was more than happy to leave to him. In that way they were perfect partners. And she enjoyed helping with the dispatching of those that might threaten their home.

Clearly, Dmitri was irritated and she had known him long enough to realize when he was hungry without having to brush through his mind. Reaching her arm out to softly lay against his shoulder, her lips turned up at his masculine gruffness. "Ari is caring for Leland. I am here to see to the house, should the other one return and I'm sure between Isabella and I, we can see to making your guest comfortable. Safely." she added the last with a smirk, raising her hands slightly in playful surrender to assure him that she would not bring harm to a mortal under his protection.

"Why don't you finish your hunt? While you are out, you could also check the neighborhood to see if our rude visitor still lingers?" Really, she had no concern for the vampire that had appeared on their doorstep. She would take no chances with her mortal son with a vampire that she did not know or trust. But she wanted to give Dmitri the peace of mind that he was free to go feed. Sometimes it seemed that she had to convince him that he was working while he was doing it, just to get him to go. His devotion knew no bounds and he often overworked himself.

She left the suggestion lingering, allowing him to choose. Turning, she threaded her arm through Isabella's, gracing the younger vampiress with a courtly conspiratoral grin. With her other hand she reached down to take Anna's small hand in her own. It felt right to have Isabella at her side defending their home. And Anna's presence in the face of a potential danger had her claws nearly bared in protective aggression. While she lamented that her 'gift' of immortality kept her from having children of her own, she could not imagine that she could love a baby from her own womb any more than the family that she had found in these walls. "I think a 'blood party' sounds like marvelous fun, tesoro. Isabella, will you join us?"

Raising a hand, one of her attendants, the young female, appeared on the landing of the upper balcony. Cassandra motioned with casual grace toward the sitting room on the first floor. She wanted to be near the door, should trouble arise. Not that she was scared. She would feel totally safe if she were asleep in the town square. But the same was not true for Ari or even little Leland and her dear, sweet Anna. Still, it was a simple precaution, as was asking Isabella to join them there. In reality, she missed her other 'daughter'. Despite living in the same house, the members often kept their own hours and lives and she felt it had been too long since she had spent time with young beauty. Anna was a constant joy and always a figure around Cassandra, which she never tired of. If only she could age, what a lady of poise and prestige she would have turned out to be.

Turning as they walked by, she smiled encouragingly at Zen. Dmitri was hard on the shadow-bender and she knew it was out of fear for Ari. But she often felt that such a worry was misplaced, doubting that Zen would ever attack a member of their family. Still, she would never question Dmitri for his worries.

Zenithe continued to watch the things Dmitri decided to plan out, jaw tightening as Zen himself felt just a furthering of the madness he was already feeling. Why did it trouble him so much? Because after over a century the human way of life had nothing more to offer him than a crappy childhood belonging to the product of a hybrid birth. Even after the decades of contemplation and reflection, Zen still couldn't find the one thing that would make sense of any of it. Who was the vampire that started all of this for him? It wasn't like he himself went searching, but at least knowing whom it was would alleviate some of the overall anger against the ideal of people. At this point, all he could do was sulk, arms still crossed as Cassandra decided to make herself known to everyone around in the main area. His eyes flicked just a bit in her direction, but not before hearing both Dmitri's and Cassandra's voices in his own. It frustrated him how he could not simply do that something preventing him from ever delving into someone's head and reading thoughts, or giving his own. The only thing he gave the two was a sucking of his teeth, and sighing silently in reluctant compliance. Why would any human be granted a stay here, other than those who clearly needed to. He couldn't feed on any of them, and he could feed on any of the ones outside without completely going insane. That was, not until little Antoinette gave him, not one, but two kisses. She came just as quickly as her phantom face on his faded, eyes widened in both surprise and anger as he pushed himself from the wall, having been set off in the most singled-out of ways.

Zenithe could barely listen to what went on after Dmitri slammed the door, the sound echoing in his mind as he flailed his forearms upwards. He inhaled and exhaled loudly, and began walking off towards the corridors around the corner. Despite his size, and appearance referring to the lack of weight, his legs decided to club the floor beneath, mumbling angrily away from the immediate area. Only once he reached the hall, did he ramblings become audible. "Sonuva... Coming in here with humans, touching, threatening me! knowing damn well -- argh! Stupid... blasted... rules!" His threshold for non-sense having been breached, the mixed accent of his tongue echoing and fading along his voice. He tensed deeply, and turned to the walk slightly, and gave the structure a blinding jab, accompanied by another with his opposite hand. It took him only a second to calm down, a couple of shadows covering his hands as they healed the minuscule bruises on his knuckles. His eyes caught Cassandra once again as she and Isabella left with Antoniette, still feeling the tiny kisses on his face. It sparked him up again, but breezed away as quickly as it came. The moment was gone, past, as he exhaled from his nose, forehead now plastered to the wall as he closed his icy eyes, try his best to meditate on the situation, rather than bite anyone that still lingered.

As the door was slammed shut Isabella couldn't help but jump. She didn't expect that sort of reaction but she guessed that seeing as they had guests that they remain at the house and not go after the vampire that had just introduced himself before running off. Isabella knew that he would turn up again, they always did, even the humans that left house ended up coming back at some point. For now peace seemed to settle in the room but Isabella knew that it wouldn't last the night, not with a new human in the home. Isabella then turned her attention of escaping the group and returning to playing the piano however before she could sneak away she heard her name mentioned as Cassandra suggested that Dmitri continues his hunt while they looked after the house and their guest. Isabella said nothing but simply nodded when Cassandra threaded her arm though hers and grinned at her.

She knew that the two of them were more than capable of looking after the home and making sure that Zen didn't eat someone that he wasn't meant to. Isabella wasn't the strongest of people but she could mess with someone's head enough thanks to her own special little gift. The young vampire had lost count of the number of people she had sent screaming out of the house before they had walked into a floor crawling with spiders or they swore there had been a clown standing behind them looking over their shoulder. She had certainly got herself out of a lot of corners thanks to her power.

Isabella's mood lightened a little when she was invited to join Anna's blood party. She nodded before she spoke. "I'd love too." There went her plan of spending the night with the piano but she really didn't mind. Isabella often had a hard time saying no to Anna, she looked similar to one of Isabella's younger sisters and so she often found herself caving into her requests. Her eyes drifted momentarily to Zen as he left the group and headed down the hallway. She could understand his reaction towards Dmitri but Isabella knew that one of the reasons they were still alive was thanks to the rules that Dmitri and Cassandra had lain down for them. Isabella allowed herself to be led away by Cassandra in order to have the blood party but she mind couldn't help but wander as she started to think about their other visitor and work out what exactly he wanted.

Anna pouted when the man on the porch just up and disappeared. He must not have wanted to have a blood party, or Isabella and Cassandra had scared him off. But she did not focus on that for long, after all they agreed to have a blood party with her! "Kay, lets have a party!" She ran up the stairs to change into the tea part outfit and get the things set out around her little table. No one could say she had not collected a lot of dress up cloths over the years, and she was ready to have a party!

Her china doll had one chair, a teddy bear had another and that left three! one for her, one for Cassandra, and one for Isabella. She clapped her hands excitedly and ran down the stairs, her shoes making noise on every single step. Until she finally saw everyone and announced. "Well? Bella! Mummy! Its ready." and turned around to run back up the stairs, falling at one point but catching her self before finally just levitating the rest of the way to her room. She had everything but the blood. She was not allowed down where it was kept.

While waiting she turned on her music player, but she did not play any modern music but rather a lovely piece by Bach. Slowly she spun around as though she was dancing, dancing in the air still levitating about the floor.

Ari Is
With: Leland || Where: His bedroom || Doing: His homework || Wearing: School Clothes

Dmitri locked the door behind him, more out of habit than out of any attempt to keep the family safe. If the rogue really did have it in his head to cause the family harm, then a simple lock would not stop him. Rather, it would be up to the manor's residents to keep the interloper from hurting anyone...especially the children. He smiled at little Anna, realizing that he had dismissed her greeting in his annoyance with the stranger. "Don't talk to strangers, little one," he said as he smiled at the little girl. A century old she may have been, but little Anna was still so much a child. He worried for her as much as he worried for Leland and Ari. She had approached the man at the door without fear, put herself right in arms' reach. A momentary intrusive thought flashed through his head, of the damage that the rogue may have done to her before either he or Cassandra had been able to react. Dmitri shuddered and pushed the thought away, stuffing it to the back of his mind with other thoughts of its kind. He worried far more for the safety of the family than he should have, with both himself and Cassandra to keep everyone safe. He supposed it was a lingering habit of mortal life, a reminder of the days when it had been just himself and Tristan and he was all his little brother had to keep him safe. And I couldn't even do that, Dmitri thought as melancholy threatened to creep in. He shoved that away as well and turned to Cassandra as she spoke.

He placed a hand over hers where it rested on his shoulder. The corners of his mouth quirked a bit as she stated that she and Isabella would be more than capable of seeing to Florian getting settled in safely. It wasn't her or Isabella that he was worried about, so much as it was Zen. He knew better than to harm Ari but Florian was only a temporary guest. Dmitri supposed it was stupid of him to be angry with Zen. The shadow-bender was only acting as his nature dictated. If anything, Dmitri himself was the one with the problem, clinging so depseratly to his humanity rather than letting it go and becoming the apex predator that Zen and Cassandra were. Life would be so much easier if he could just let go and stop trying to act human. All the same, Cassandra's suggestion that he go to finish his hunt was met with hesitance. Leland had seemed upset and though he hid it well, Ari's discomfort had been obvious as well. Would they be alright without him? Of course they will, piped up a voice in his head, Cassandra's as hopelessly devoted to them as you are. Why did he have to keep reminding himself of that?

"Alright. I'll go, but I'll be back before sunrise," he stated, turning to Florian. "Listen to Cassandra," he stated before departing the manor and heading into town for another attempt at a hunt. Hopefully this attempt would be more fruitful...

======================================================================

Ari plucked one of the few remaining blood packets from the freezer and tore open the corner, pouring the red liquid into the sippy cup. It was strange, seeing the dark slightly thickened liquid filling the brightly patterned plastic cup. It was a juxtaposition of opposites that Ari had gotten used to over the years, just as he had gotten used to seeing Anna's little plastic teaset filled with blood during her pretend tea poarties. After twisting on the lid, Ari handed the sippy cup to Leland and hoisted the toddler up once more. He headed upstairs, yawning as he did so. Unlike many of the manor's residents, Ari had to lead a diurnal life, as he attended the local high school during the days. It was getting late and just about time for him to be turning in for the evening. He carried Leland upstairs and peeked into the entry hall. Cassandra, Anne, and Isabella were goign towards the parlor, probably for one of Anne's tea parties. Dmitri had just left - he must have been going back to finish his hunting trip. Like Cassandra, Ari had been able to sense that his father was spreading himself too thin. Again. Just as Ari was peeking into the entrance hall Zen stormed past, clearly angry. Ari quickly retreated back into the kitchen to avoid the angry vampire.

Rather than going out into the hall, Ari remained in the kitchen with little Leland. He cleaned up the mess from his earlier dinner making and put away the leftover macaroni and cheese. He then sat down at the kitchen table and yawned again. It was getting rather late and his still had his homework to finish. Ari sighed and got up, taking Leland with him to his room. He left the door open in case Cassandra, Isabella, or Anna needed him and sat down at his desk once more to work on his homework. However, he found himself unable to concentrate. Instead, he was thinking about the stranger at the door and the challenge that he had issued to the vampires of the house. Was he really going to try and take them all on at once? Ari knew he wouldn't stand a chance with a full-on assult. Perhaps he was going to try something sneaky. That thought made Ari uncomfortable. Being human, he was one of the most vulnerable of the family, even more so than little Anna. He stood and creapt across his room to his bedroom window.

Are pulled aside the curtains and peered outside. He could see the bench that the stranger had been sitting on earlier in the night as he watched the house. He imagined the man sitting their again, plotting who knows what. He frowned and let the curtain fall closed. Ari went back to his desk and shut his math textbook. He wasn't going to be able to concentrate on his homework tonight. He would have to go in to see the teacher in the morning. Hopefully the man would be willing to give him a bit of an extension. Ari had a feeling that some of his teachers pitied him for his inability to speak. He hated it, but when he had to, he would use their pity to his advantage. It wouldn't be the first time that he had used this "trump card" to get more time to work on assignments.

Leland snuggled into his elder brother while he sipped on his blood. He was so happy to be away from the door and the human. He had never really registered in his mind that his brother was human. "Love Ari." he whispered in Ari's ear, his warm breath hitting Ari's neck. He laid his head on the shoulder he was closest too and wrapped his sippy cup up close to him with the same arm that held the blanket. His thumb went into his mouth and he lightly sucked on it. He was not comfortable with all the tense emotions around the house. Especially his brother and his papa's moods.

When they got up to Ari's bedroom Leland let out a sigh of breath, Ari's room was a safe place in his mind. One of the safe places in the house that he refused to leave. But then Ari opened the window and Leland wiggled into Ari and closed his eyes tight until Ari had sat down and then Leland wiggled off his lap to go color some more. But after two pages he realized the human smell was still coming through the doorway. Getting up he walked over to the door and pushed it shut. "No more smell!" he announced to Ari.

He really did not like the humans looking at him or being in his home. "He smell like food." He really did not understand that Ari was a human. To him Ari was simply his brother. When his brother shut his math book he looked up before running to find a book that was hidden in the stack of toys he had in his brother's room. The book was Goodnight Moon, he brought it over to Ari and pushed it into his hands "Read? Please?" He asked sweetly with his sweet eyes.

CASSANDRA DIAE

LOCATION : Remington Manor
WITH : Isabella and Anna
OOC :
WEARING: Elegance

Cassandra sighed as Anna ran upstairs to get the party ready in her room instead of in the downstairs sitting room where Cassandra would have preferred. Motioning for her attendant to stop as the young human went to move past them without really looking at her, her tone was curt. "It seems we will be in Antoinette's room, just bring a fresh pitcher of blood up to us and then see to getting the human settled in a first floor room and be sure to explain that he would be best served to turn in early and keep to his room until someone collects him in the morning." She didn't think that Zen would attack someone that was under Dmitri's protection. But, at the same time, it didn't do to take chances.

Sometimes, she wondered how Dmitri could suppress his urges so easily. The smell of strange human blood in the house was a constant distraction. And the children, Leland and Anna, they couldn't be blamed if they attacked the human to feed, they didn't really know any better. In fact, Cassandra wished that she could take Anna with her to hunt. After all, the young girl was going to be her age for eternity, she needed to be well schooled at hunting. Not that Cassandra wouldn't help. She could wound a human and ensure that they were weakened or even submissive, using her power, so that Anna could feed from a fresh, live source. It was who they were. What they were.

That was why Cassandra kept attendants after all. Tonight, she would amuse Anna by drinking blood from a cup, but it was not how she fed. No, she preferred blood straight from the vein. The young male and female humans that she kept as her two attendants were her food source. Using her power, she was assured that they enjoyed it. One of the only things that kept Dmitri from putting his food down that she couldn't feed from humans in the house. That and the fact that she had rescued both of them of terrible situations. Now they were like her servants....or pets....that she drained mildly. She alternated between the two of them so that they could keep up their strength. But if she was on her own, she would have a legion of servants that she would feed from.

Cassandra and Isabella, still arm-in-arm made their way up the stairs to Anna's room. Reaching the door, Cassandra smiled softly as she saw the young girl hovering through the air in sweeping rhythms to her Bach concertos. The table was set and she took her spot just as her female attendant swept in with the pitcher of fresh warm blood. The young woman moved around the table quietly, filling the small cups, including the ones in front of the doll and the teddy bear before setting the pitcher down and exiting the room with her eyes turned down to the floor.

Cassandra raised her glass to her little girl, "Shall we, darling?"

❝Why does time move slowly when I'm not with you? The sunrise... comes too soon.❞

As she stood, second thoughts came rushing towards her. Juliette looked at herself and then the stranger. Stranger. The girl wasn’t sure whether to blame intuition or irrational paranoia, but suddenly she was overwhelmed by distrust for the stranger. He isn’t human, and neither are you. You can’t be so naïve. She took a step back and lowered her head. ”I’ve caused you a great deal of trouble. I won’t be so careless,” she said, dropping his hand and returning his jacket. With a curt nod, Juliette turned away.

She returned to the street, telekinesis externally manipulating her muscles each step. It was tiring, but she forced herself to ignore the fatigue. Her pride was glass, and it had been shattered by those nine hunters. In death, they left her with two choices: wallow in self-pity and broken glass, or use her pain to make a mosaic. Juliette, in life, had thought “pitiful,” “powerless,” and “useless” to be synonymous, but Undeath taught her otherwise. The very nature of vampirism was torn between curse and blessing, and it was the vampire’s choice as to which their condition would be. Vampirism hadn’t made her powerful, but rather it gave her the tools to become so. For that reason, Juliette believed herself to be blessed, not by God, but by her sire all those years ago.

Continuing down the street, Juliette resisted the urge to doubt herself. If she died, it would be on her own terms and of her own accord. Whether she was caught by the sun, starvation, or a hostile vampire, she would blame no one but herself and accept her fate. Though, it was easy to think such things when not in imminent danger. When faced with death, would she hold true to what she felt in that moment? Death was frightening, but if she could, at the very least, feign strength, then perhaps she could die with dignity.

Juliette felt as though she was drowning in thoughts, some of which were surely useless. This area was far too populous; club-goers swarmed the streets and stared at her. Their eyes were roaches against her skin, crawling greedily and stupidly. It was too loud, too busy. Quietness would give her a chance to think, a chance to consider every outcome before she stupidly approached another stranger.

She sighed. The streets seemed to grow louder and darker each second. Perhaps she couldn’t afford the luxury of quiet just yet. Juliette needed somewhere to go before she could worry any more about noise, somewhere dark and protected enough that she could last until the next moonrise. Did such a place even exist?

❝Be still, sad heart. Be still and cease repining.❞

Ari smiled faintly as Leland closed his bedroom door, announcing that the smell was gone. It must have been Florian's smell that was bothering him. He would be glad when morning came and Florian wasn't staying with them anymore. He tried not to resent the other humans, but his arrival had caused so much trouble. Ari shrugged as Leland declared that Florian smelled like food. He didn't bother trying to correct the toddler or tell him that smell was the smell of human, not the smell of food. Leland was partially vampire, and to most vampires, humans were food. Ari sat back down at his desk and rubbed a hand over his eyes, watching Leland run around the room. When his little brother dug the book out of the pile of toys and handed it to him, a pained look momentarily crossed Ari's face. He knew what Leland wanted, asking in that sweet little voice. He wanted to be read to....something Ari couldn't do. Ari took the book and looked down at it, then back at his little brother. He could remember telling Leland before that he couldn't read to him. The disappointment in his little face had been heartbreaking. If there was anything that Ari hated the most about his inability to speak, more than the pitying looks and the ignorant remarks about his intelligence, it was not being able to really communicate with others. His little brother especially.

After a few minutes, Ari reached down and scooped Leland up. He carried the book and his little brother over to his bed and sat down, laying back against the pile of pillows that were stacked at the head of the bed. He set Leland down next to him and placed the book in his lap. "We'll read together," he signed as he smiled at Leland, hoping the toddler would understand. Leland wouldn't be able to actually read it, but he would at least be able to make up the words and pretend like he was. Ari opened the book to the first page and settled in, lightly stroking Leland's baby-soft hair with one hand as he slowly turned the pages with the other. Hopefully his little brother wouldn't be too upset at the fact that Ari couldn't really read to him. Maybe when Dmitri got back he would read the book to Leland before the two of them turned in for the day.

============================================================

Dmitri's second attempt at hunting had gone much better than his first attempt had. He had barely entered the city's clubbing distract when a muffled cry from an alleyway drew him to his prey. The thumping bass music (if you could call it that) faded into the distance as he followed his quarry. Soon he stumbled upon a young couple sequestered between two dumpsters. A modern day Romeo and Juliet? Not exactly. Dmitri caught the flash of a knife and low grunts of "Shut up or I'll cut your neck open, swear to God". He rolled his eyes and grabbed the man by the back of his hair, dragging him away from the young woman...girl, really. She hardly looked older than Ari. A quick peek in the girl's head revealed that she was younger than Ari was, having snuck into one of the clubs with the aid of a fake ID. Dmitri shook his head as he snapped the man's wrist. The knife, which had been careening towards his face, fell to the ground. A scream died in the man's throat as Dmitri tore it open. Drunk though she was, the girl had enough sense to gather herself up and flee from the alley as her "savior" greedily swallowed down her attacker's blood.

Once he had finished Dmitri tossed the man's now dried out husk into one of the dumpsters. He wiped the blood from his face with the man's shirt, then strolled off as if nothing had happened. Now that he wasn't being distracted by the smell of blood and the sounds of heartbeats all around he felt in a much better mood. Dmitri started heading back towards the manor, wondering if Ari would be up for one more game of chess before he went to bed. Or maybe he'd spend some time building Lego buildings with Leland? Dmitri rather enjoyed building elaborate castles and such for the little boy's dolls and action figures to play in. However, before Dmitri could return home and settled back into quiet domesticity, something caught his eye. There was a women walking down the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street. She stood out from the crowd of slubgoers, but not for any good reason. Dmitri's eyes narrowed as he yees her. She was blood spattered, clearly on her last legs, and obviously not human. Two interlopers in one night...he couldn't catch a break. Had they not seen the signs of a vampire in residence in the city? Dmitri suppressed the urge to snarl, pushing back instincts in favour of logic.

The girl was no immediate threat. She hardly looked able to stay upright. Perhaps she was in need of assistance? Dmitri looked up towards the manor, silhouetted by the moon. Daylight would be coming before either of them knew it. Giving the girl shelter would be the humane thing to do. Besides, if she was nearby he could keep an eye on her, make sure that she wasn't a threat like that other trespassing bloodsucker was. Dmitri crossed the street and fell into step beside the girl. "You seem in need of somewhere to go," he stated casually, as if he were commentig on the weather.

❝Why does time move slowly when I'm not with you? The sunrise... comes too soon.❞

The world had certainly changed. Technology was everywhere, and Juliette was quickly discouraged. People around her handled devices she had never seen before as though they were extensions of themselves. As a captive, she had never been exposed to these strange, new gadgets. Juliette noticed a group of girls in scandalously short skirts and dangerously tall shoes and paused. They lifted their… devices… above their heads as though they were trophies and beamed their flashiest smiles at the screens. Were these things… cameras? Observing the climbing moon, Juliette sighed and ignored the thought.

The clubs lining the streets bled pounding thumps and electronic groans; she could only assume that was what became of music. The obnoxious drone of the bass ground against her skull, and her jaw literally dropped as she caught a glimpse of the people “dancing” to its hefty beat. The club goers whirled and stumbled to the music, skin gleaming with sweat in the dim light. Her eyes stung just from bearing witness to such a crude gathering. Societal standards had changed, and Juliette would have to learn the new rules—that is, if she lived long enough to obey them.

The chill of the April night was beginning to prod her when a man stepped beside her. He started speaking before she got the chance to really examine him. She considered his words for a moment, confused by his casual tone. Somewhere to go…. No—she had just refused the tattoo-covered vampire’s extended hand. She couldn’t betray her decision so quickly. But unlike him, this person isn’t pulling you behind a building by the arm.

Juliette continued beside him, mulling over her words as her vectors aided her along the pavement. “It would seem so,” she admitted, catching an undesirable hic in her words as she spoke. She was still shaken from her crying spell, it seemed. She knew full and well the image she was projecting was one of woe and vulnerability, and it aggravated her. She would scold herself later when the approaching dawn was no longer a concern.

Lestat Noir

Lestat was back to his normal spot, drinking his alcohol, watching the humans live through his window, and waited for two things. He was waiting for daylight, and either a group vampires kicking down his door, or hunters doing the same. A thought crossed his mind that maybe he went a little too far with the other vampires, but he quickly ushered that thought away. He never conceded to anyone or anything. Either he gets convinced, or he will fight and possibly die. "Sometimes I think that would be better than living this life." Lestat muttered to himself. He put the lid on the bottle of booze, walked to the window, and starting planning. He would have to be careful. He cant wander the streets as much now. he could sense that someone, or something, was going to come to him. So he wanted to be ready. With his telepathy, he closed the blinds to the window, turned off the lights, the TV, and went to his bed. Day would soon be upon the world.

Leland was thrilled with the idea that he would be able to help read with his big brother, his brother was really smart so being able to read to him made Leland feel all big! "The moon" he pointed to the picture of the moon. "Its got cheese! that you make into mac and cheese!" he had no idea what the book was actually about other then it had a moon. He would tell you a different story each time, even when the book was upside down.

He flipped the page and looked up at Ari with a big smile that showed how happy he was. "And, and, and the cow is jumping over the moon a'cause it needs milk to make the cheese." flip the page and still paying no attention to the actual picture or words added "And the mices ate all the cheese. so the moon was gone!" he giggled a lot at that line before switching pages. "And the stars took over and make a bigger moon!"

Closing the book he looked up at Ari, with a big grin on his face "The End! Like it Ari? I love you Ari!" He had asked if Ari liked the book that he had read to his big brother, his big brother was so smart and cool. Dropping the book he twisted around and stood up on his knees, accidently putting one of those knees between Ari's legs and leaned up to softly kiss his cheek and wrap his arms around the elder's neck. leaning back he smiled at Ari.

Ari settled back against the pillows as he watched Leland point to the pictures and make up a story to go along with them. He had a feeling this was the fourth or fifth different rendition of the book that he had heard. Leland always seemed to come up with something new . He smiled as Leland told him how the cow was jumping over the moon, so that the moon could be made of more cheese...or something...he wasn't really listening. Rather, Ari was trying to stay awake until Dmitri returned from hunting. By the time that Leland had finished with his made=up story and was asking Ari's opinion, the human was half way asleep. He woke up slightly when Leland chirped at him, asking his opinion of the story. Ari nodded as he rubbed a hand over his eyes, letting out a silent yawn. He smiled as Leland kissed his cheek and ruffled up the little boy's hair. "It was good," he signed as he yawned again. Ari got up and walked over to his dresser, rummaging for a little while. Ari changed his school clothes out for his pajamas, then picked Leland up and carried him to Anna's room where the ladies of the house were playing at having their tea party.

He set Leland down on the floor and signed, "I'm going to bed...can you watch him until Papa comes home?" It was far later than he usually went to bed and if he didn't get to sleep as soon as possible, then he would probably sleep through his alarm and miss school in the morning. That was something that Ari couldn't afford; though he was trying to hide it from Dmitri, he was not doing very well with his classes, math in particular. He had a tutoring session after school every Wednesday - which was tomorrow - so he usually didn't get home until the sun had begun to set and the nocturnal residents of the manor had begun to stir. After getting the affirmative that they would watch Leland, Ari kissed his little brother's forehead, bid everyone else a good night, and returned to his room. He was asleep almost as soon as his head hit the pillow.

=================================================================

Dmitri continued to walk at the woman's side, noting the soft hitch in her speaking. She must have been through quite a bit to be on the verge of tears. He ignored the humans around them, the crowd steadily thinning as they got further from the club distract and the hour grew steadily closer to morning. He glanced at the woman again and said, "Dawn is coming soon. You won't want to be caught out here when that happens." And frankly, neither did he. Subtly, Dmitri steered the woman towards the manor house, keeping at her side and discreetly blocking her when she tried to venture elsewhere. He could see, barely, lights on in the manor house. Ari's window in particular drew his attention. He should have been asleep by then; he had school come the morning. Dmitri supposed that little Leland was keeping his brother up late again. Dmitri smiled faintly; he had been worried that the two would not get along, but his sons were quite attached to one another. He wondered briefly how that would change once Ari's mortality caught up with him and he became an adult, while Leland remained a child for a while longer. He didn't dwell on those thoughts for long, however. When he did that, he was reminded of how vulnerable Ari was and that, some day, he would pass away. Unless he was changed...but Dmitri would not do that unless Ari were to ask. He was such a sweet natured boy, that it turned Dmitri's stomach to think of him being forecibly turned into a blood drinking predator.

"I can offer you shelter until you have regained your strength," he said to the woman at whose side he walked, "There is a small enclave of our kind here in this city. So long as you agree to abide by our laws you are welcome to seek sanctuary in our home." Getting the woman on their side would mean one more ally against that teleporting stranger as well. By then, the city was beginning to give way to smaller buildings, empty lots, and before long they were alone on the road that lead up the hill upon which the manor sat. Once they passed the property line of the manor, Cassandra would know that they were coming. Dmitri supposed the other half of her pair of attendants would great them, as the girl would be helping Florian get settled it. The woman's attendants had always made Dmitri a bit uncomfortable. The fact that she used her powers to manipulate them into enjoying the feeding was something that had never quite sat right with him. However, they didn't seem to suffer for it and so he had no room to speak against their prescence in the house.

Once they were standing at the scrolled iron front gate, Dmitri turned to the woman. "This is my home," he told her, "And you are welcome to seek shelter within should you choose. There are humans that live here. Two are the attendants of the lady of the house, and should she grant you permission, you may feed from them. The third, however, is my son and he is not to be touched. If you do, I will kill you." He didn't bother mentioning Florian. If he knew what was good for him, he would remain in his room for the night and would leave once dawn broke. Dmitri left the woman at the gate and made his way indoors.

Florian Dumont

Florian fell into a sort of daze. He knew why. This feeling was familiar to him. He wished it wasn't. Florian was aware of new vampires coming by, to talk with or ignore him he didn't know. One stuck out in his mind though. She was beautiful, not saying the others weren't, but she was perfect. She had such grace. Florian's vision blurred and a dull pain formed in the back of his head. Florian mumbled apologizes and asked for directions to a bathroom. He stumbled away down the hallway one of them pointed. He chose a door at random and got lucky, he hadn't heard what anyone said, just barely saw the gesture pointing him in the right direction. Florian sat on the edge of the vintage tub and pulled at his hair. He slapped himself gently in the face a few times, willing the urge to go down, he could deal with it later. Florian scratched his forearm hard, his fair skin turning red with irritation. He stood once he felt his mind was clearer and braced himself on the sink, staring into the mirror. He saw himself obviously, but also someone he didn't know. He hated him. Florian rubbed his eyes, most likely worsening the dark circles that had begun to form under them not to long ago. Florian ran cold water on his wrists and splashed some on his face. He looked in the mirror again and offered a weak smile. "Florian." He shook his head at his own silliness and dried his face and hands with the monogrammed towel. Florian left the bathroom and smoothed out his clothes. He wandered around the house until he found someone, the woman. Florian tried to act sophisticated, as sophisticated as a human stripper could be around a classy vampire. "Sorry, I uh, do you have any Advil? Or Tylenol? I've got a killer headache." He rubbed his head lamely and looked at the woman, hoping she wouldn't decide to drain him of blood instead of helping him.

❝Why does time move slowly when I'm not with you? The sunrise... comes too soon.❞

Wordlessly, Juliette continued alongside the man much like a submissive dog on a leash. She wasn’t sure how long they’d been walking like that, but the blaring club district had faded behind them and was replaced by the quaint outskirts of the city. The man seemed interested in only one building, and the large manor seemed to steal his attention every now and again. As the surrounding buildings continued to thin, Juliette found her own attention fixed upon the manor, as well. It wasn’t until the man mentioned the dawn that she was shaken from her daze. She nodded weakly but said nothing.

She listened to him speak, and she decided he was far more trustworthy than the other vampire. His words, though stern, offered kindness. In that sense, he reminded her of her father, before he decided his daughter was a useless thing to be ignored, of course. The road narrowed and soon led to only one destination: the manor. That beautiful place belonged to him, she realized, and he was allowing her to stay there. To own such a place… was he aristocracy? Juliette wasn’t sure. He hadn’t even given her a name.

As they met the gate of the property and the man mentioned the other residents of the estate, Juliette’s eyes widened. She was confused. Humans were able to live peacefully amongst vampires? He seemed concerned that she would attempt to feed from them, but honestly, at that moment, Juliette didn’t care if she ever tasted blood again. The hunters’ blood left a sickening iron taste in her throat. It was inside her, and there was no escaping it. She wouldn’t dare touch any of the human residents, and certainly not his… son. He was… human?

”Wait, please…!”
she said as he headed for the house. She sent a tendril in his direction, lightly reaching for his shoulder. ”You are gracious. You’ve saved my life… I will have to find a way to repay you.” Juliette tried to catch up with him without tripping over herself and looking like a fool. He was interesting. To him, helping her didn’t seem to be anything momentous. He didn’t seem to acknowledge any distinct advantage to keeping her alive, nor a specific burden to house her. All he seemed to ask was that she be a good girl and play nicely with the other kids.
