tab Morning was honestly Teagan's favorite time of the day. She always felt more productive in the morning. Her roommate, Willa, always left early to go be productive elsewhere, which gave Tea more than enough time to film a new cover for her YouTube channel. She had her keyboard set up on her side of the room, as well as her guitar. She'd gotten a really nice quality camera for Christmas two years ago from her parents, which was probably the reason Teagan had so many YouTube subscribers. People valued high-quality videos, you know. However, today was not a film day, so Teagan turned on her music and attempted to get dressed, but she found herself mostly just dancing around the room and singing a little dramatically. She'd changed her outfit four times when she noticed her cell phone ringing. She picked it up to see who was calling and turned the music down, having forgotten to give her mother a call. Teagan was very close with her family, and it was a morning ritual that Teagan call before she left for breakfast. She'd completely forgotten, mostly because her routine was different today. Normally she called, filmed a video, got dressed and went for breakfast. Everything was all messed up this morning.

tab After having a lovely conversation with her mother, Teagan hung up and finally got dressed for real this time. She brushed her hair out, which was fading to a lilac-silver now. She'd dyed it before the break a bright lilac, mostly just for fun, and it was finally fading a bit. She fit a beanie on her head and adjusted her bangs before pulling her boots on and rushed out the door after grabbing her bag. Teagan made a small pit stop in the music wing, smiling at the only teacher that ever came in this early, the head of the music department, who everyone just affectionately called Mrs. G. "So you liked my designs?" Tea asked. The older woman turned around in her chair and smiled, producing a stack of shiny fliers. "So much that I had them printed this morning. You'll pass them out?" she asked. Teagan nodded, taking the stack from her. "I'm on the job. Thanks!" She was off again, this time headed towards the cafeteria, after sticking the fliers in her bag.

tab Teagan had been voted vice president of the drama club last semester, mostly because of her dedication to the club. She wasn't an actress, really, but she tried out for all the shows that were put on and had been organizing the talent show since her arrival to the school. Her talent combined with her dedication was what led the upperclassman to vote her into office at the club, and it was actually a lot of fun, even as stressful as it was. But the spring talent show waited for no one, and it was her job to begin recruiting. She spotted Willa first, her fun roommate who was equally as talented, if not exceedingly more talented than Teagan herself. She was sitting at a table with someone Teagan didn't recognize. Regardless, she made herself a pest and sat down beside Willa at the table. "Morning!" she said brightly. "Just wanted to let you know that Mrs. G liked my designs so she had the fliers printed. Start thinking about your piece for the show, yeah?" she said and produced the flier from her bag. Teagan turned the boy at the table and smiled. "You're also welcomed to try out. This isn't High School Musical and I'm no Sharpay. Everyone is welcome to try out. It'll be fun. Think about it. I'm Teagan Pointe, by the way." she told him and then turned back to Willa. "Okay, I'll leave you alone now. See you in English. And it was so nice to meet you. Ciao!"

tab Next was the table of Matt, Colette, Cole, Thatch, and Spencer. She had friends in the group so it wasn't like it was weird or anything. She sat down with them and smiled when they smiled at her. "Good morning, you guys. Just wanted to let you know that spring talent show auditions are next week and if you loved me, you'd try out or at least volunteer to work crew. We could always use more hands, you know," she said enticingly and then laughed. "Anyway, just wanted to share the news. I'll leave you guys alone now. I swear." With that, Teagan stood up again and left them all be. Her stomach was growling, and she knew emails would be sent around to the students' email accounts about the talent show anyway. Teagan just liked to bother her friends, but they knew how important the talent show was to her.

tab She got in line for food and piled a bunch of fresh fruit into a bowl, topped it with Greek yogurt and granola and made herself some tea with honey before she spotted Kieran Southway in his usual corner table. She grinned and made herself annoying again, sitting down across the table from him. "Good morning," she said warmly. It was a little weird speaking to him now. They had kissed at the music department's Christmas party before break and hadn't really talked since. Things felt strange, but Teagan was determined to help them both forget. He couldn't like her, and Teagan was very certain she couldn't like him. It just wouldn't work out. "So I'm holding talent show auditions next week," Teagan informed him, sliding a glossy flier across the table to him playfully. He'd been vehemently rejecting her every since time she asked him to audition, even though she knew he had talent. He was just enjoying his jackass qualities. But Teagan was going to get him to crack, whether Kieran knew that or not.

                                              • If Worthington’s had done anything for Tristan, it had definitely made him a morning person. When he was home, he could not be bothered to get out of his bed until at least noon. Here it was a different story. The early hours of the morning was the only time that was actually his. After about 8AM, his day was scheduled out for him entirely, with classes, assignments and occasionally the unavoidable phone call from his mother, who would no doubt unload her next pile of weekly expectations and demands. You would think being enrolled in a boarding school thousands of miles from his New York City home would be enough distance to keep his mother out of his hair, but it only seemed to make her more and more obsessive.

The Devereaux family was, without question, a strange and dysfunctional family, but it was the only thing Tristan had even known. It was not until he had been enrolled in Worthington’s, at his own demand, that he realized just how ******** up his family was. For one thing. Tristan had really no idea what it meant to be a teenager. He had never been on a sports team, never attended a concert, gone to see a movie or even gone to an amusement park. His role in his family had been very definitively etched out for him since he was born, and there was, according to his mother, no time for meaningless frivolities. For him, being a teenager meant attending high society gala’s with his mother, sitting in on board meetings for the business he was soon to be in charge of, and essentially being made to succeed at just about everything. Coming in second best in anything was unheard of for anybody in the Devereaux family.

Having been up since about 6AM, Tristan had done his best to be quiet so he would not disturb his roommate Matt. He had popped his headphones into his ears and spent the last few hours drawing on Illustrator. It was a secret hobby of his, and he really only ever used it to appease his younger brother Dalton, who was autistic. The fifteen year old boy had an obsession with comics and had insisted that Tristan make him some of his own, and Tristan had done just that. The one he was working on now was the third installment of comics he had made, with Dalton as the superhero and their mother as the evil villain.

Realizing the rime on the clock, Tristan saved his work and powered down his computer. Matt would be waking up soon and it would be time to head to breakfast. Tristan always went, though he rarely ate. Breakfast was his least important meal of the day and his stomach seemed to disagree with the idea of him ingesting anything before noon. Of course, some could argue his lack of appetite was derived from his drug use, but that was an entirely different matter.

Getting up from his desk, Tristan let his eyes scan his side of the room. There was not much on his side that revealed anything about his personality. His bedding was black and his walls were mostly blank, aside from a picture Dalton had drawn him over break, an Elektrik People poster and a few photographs he had taken around New York. The only thing anyone looking at his side of the room would notice was perhaps his ridiculous organization. Overall it was pretty bland compared to most of the rooms of the other students, not that Tristan minded. There was too much effort that went into decorating a room and Tristan didn’t feel like he spent enough time in it to matter.

Snagging his student ID from his bedside table, he slipped it into the pocket of his black trousers. Even at school, there was rarely a time where Tristan dressed down. Appearances had been too ferociously drilled into his head growing up for him to trade his pressed pants for jeans or shorts, even in the LA weather. It was what he was comfortable in, though it got him a lot of stares in the hallway sometimes. Again, it wasn’t like that bothered him. Tristan had been in the public eye for a longass time. He knew how to take criticism.

After smacking Matt’s ankle to wake him up, Tristan slipped out the door and headed for the cafeteria. Passing a few unfamiliar faces int he halls, he remembered that today was the day they were going to be getting a bunch of new students from shady backgrounds. Vermin. That was what his mother would have called them. In fact, Tristan did not have a doubt in his mind that she would withdraw him from the academy if she had any idea that Worthingtons was taking the students in. That was exactly why Tristan had made sure to “forget” to bring the paper home with him over break. He had no intention of losing what little freedom he had because Worthingtons had decided to try and look charitable. Charity was overrated,

The line for breakfast was longer than usual. Grabbing an apple from the fruit basket, he scanned the room. Tables were slowly collecting the bodies of tired students, but Tristan did not really feel like he wanted to join any of them. Instead, he chose a table by himself, close to the window. Rolling the apple back and forth between his two hands, he turned his gaze outside, hoping people watching would relieve him of his boredom.

The ringing echoed throughout the room, loudly enough the whole house would be alerted. But to a certain boy ears had simply gone death, soft snores coming from the mess of pillows and sheets. With a thud a door swung open, slamming into the wall. Startled and tangled, the sleeping figure ended up on the ground. "Ashlyn! You are still sleeping! It's your first day you will be late!" A mother's scolding would wake any teenager up, a fact of life. Slowly the mess of black hair emerged and a red eye Ash stared blankly at the woman. Yawning a bit too loudly the boy scratched his head messy his hair further until he was one his feet. Reaching just two inches of six feet the boy towered over the small woman, though standing in his boxers looking like a mess did not really make him look threatening at all. "Late for what mom..." Throwing a shirt at him she groaned in annoyance, "Your new school Ash, we talked about this last night!' Slowly pulling the shirt on and falling into bed again, the boy turned his back to the woman. "Oh, you were serious about that...." That was when the woman gazed about the mess of the room, clothes here and there, shoes out of place, a mess. Eyes widen, and a vein was surely about to pop from her forehead. "Ashlyn Jeremiah Saunters! You haven't packed?!" By then Ash had already tuned the woman out as she ranted and moved about the room picking things about. His mother had only come over the night before claiming his aunt, who he lived with, was not capable of responsibly getting him to this new school thing. Apparently she had been right, now his aunt rested against his door frame holding back a laugh as she ushered the boy to get moving. Reluctantly he finally did as he was told, but gave up after about only ten minutes and went to shower.

Ashlyn was not particularly a bad kid, in fact he was just that, a kid. His troubles were no crime and didn't hurt anyone but himself. Sadly he simply was addicted to testing the limits of his own body, which led to lots of bruising, broken bones, and countless sprained ankles. It made sense that he would seek a bit of medicinal help to help with the pain. But like everything he did in life he just had to up the challenge a bit more, that was when simple pain killers turn to complete on highs, in his mind pills only enhanced the experience. Even till this morning as he prepared to be shipped of he did not understand why his parents reacted how they did. The situation still hadn't hit him, he half expected his aunt to somehow save him and keep him here with her, but apparently his mother was set on this school, woohoo for Ash.

It took about three hours for the boy to get ready, leaving him in a car ride with a very infuriated mother. Of course Ash was lost between his music and the massive bag of cheese doodles. Not the scenery, cars passing, or anything caught his attention, the whole ride he bopped his head, ate, and drank his red bull till he fell asleep again. The harsh poking at his ribs was woke him up, eyes not even fluttered open and his mother was out of the car dragging his stuff out. 'Guess she is in a hurry....' he thought as he climbed out to find all his stuff was out. With backpack and a few other bags the woman wasted no time, kissing his cheek and just hurrying off. Saluting at the departing car finally his eyes met with the school and realized this was all really...."Oh s**t..." But like everything else this was just another challenge that he had to endure, so he didn't put anything thought into it and just went about his way.

Of course security check took forever, striping him naked a bit excessively. Not that he minded, he simply whistled, keeping his focus making sure not to give away where he hid the goods. After that, he was desperate to find his dorm, not that he lasted two seconds in it. Dropping his stuff and taking the skateboard strapped to the back pack he was in less then a few minutes already roaming the halls. Headphones plugged into his ears, he ignored all the complains as he flew past students in his board. That red bull he had earlier surely took it's effect. Like any hyped teenage boy his nose brought him to the cafeteria, not that this stopped him from riding. Without a care he rode in, skipped everyone in the line and reached over a group of girls to grab a bag of potato chips, winking at them before riding away again. At the tables he was forced to slow the skateboard down, as he opened the bag and searched for a good enough empty seat.

tab When Brittani received word that Nicky had arrived, she set her work aside and stood up. She checked to see how much time they had and then left the dining hall building. She knew where he was; there was a parking lot beside the library, because it was open to the public even though it was their private library. It was the first turn in to the campus, so it made sense for Nicky's aunt to have turned there. Luckily for her, it was only a short trip across the quad to get to the dorms. From the way the path was situated, Brittani had come up on Nicky's right. His aunt saw her first, though. "Hey, baby!" Britt said happily. Before she got a chance to, Nicky's arms were around her, which was not the plan. She had wanted to make a good first impression on his aunt, even though this particular situation was not all that terrible to be in. Brittani smiled and stood up on her toes to reach Nicky's mouth, giving him a very long overdue kiss. It had been a couple weeks since she'd seen him, and she was never not going to savor being able to kiss him, no matter how long or little time they were apart.

tab Brittani took a step back, pulling herself together a little better. Pushing her bangs from her face, she turned to Nicky's aunt. "Sorry about that. I'm Brittani King. It's really nice to meet you ma'am." If there was one thing Brittani was it was polite. Maybe it was a southern girl thing, but Brittani was just raised to be very polite. The older woman shook her hand and introduced herself as well, and Brittani wondered if this woman expected her to be different. Maybe she thought Nicky was dating some tatted up scene queen or something, not some tall blonde girl. Regardless, Brittani stepped around them to grab a bag from the trunk, swinging it over her shoulder. "D'you have your schedule, babe?" she asked, smiling when Nicky produced it from his pocket. She peered at it and then handed it back. "I'm pretty sure I know where your room is. We can unpack this stuff later, because I'm sure you need to eat and I have to finish some stuff up. If I ever tell you I'm thinking about taking Calculus and AP Chemistry together ever again, please hit me."

tab The school day passed like any other day. However, being a Friday, word had gotten around that notorious party boy Travis Grey was throwing some huge house party. His house was just down the road from campus and his parents were on holiday in the Swiss Alps and left spoiled rotten Travis with keys to the mansion. Brittani had been to his parties a handful of times. They were actually pretty fun. His house was gorgeous and his parents seemed to operate on the "you can never have too much stuff" mentality. A bunch of her friends were going to the party tonight, Brittani knew, but she hadn't seen Nicky all day. She wasn't sure what he wanted to do, so she'd promised to let everyone know if they'd see her at the party after she talked to her boyfriend.

tab She spent some time after class on the phone with her mother, telling her about her week and how things were going. She also let her mother know that Nicky had made his arrival, and Brittani promised to pass along the "be good, don't get into trouble, young man" little speech her mother made, after learning that Nicky wasn't with her at the moment or she would've demanded Britt put him on the phone so she could tell him herself. Her family and Nicky had a very nice relationship, Brittani thought. Her parents almost acted like his parents. Nicky didn't have very sound parental guidance growing up and whilst Brittani's parents were never parents of the year, they were at least some kind of stability. Britt knew that Nicky and her dad were close and her mother loved him like a third son. Brittani was still pretty sure they were still trying to completely win over Jeremy, her older brother, but he wanted to like Nicky and it had been over a year now, and he was finally coming around. Her younger brother, Todd, on the other hand, was completely obsessed with Nicky. He wanted to be just like him, and told all his friends about his sister's "rockstar boyfriend" which Britt thought was cute. Nicky was the reason that Todd insisted on learning how to play the guitar, at first because he wanted to impress Nicky, but now it seemed that Todd genuinely enjoyed playing the guitar. Nicky was impacting her family just as much as her family was impacting him, and that made Brittani smile.

tab After getting off the phone with her mother, Brittani changed out of her chunky heels into a pair of canvas sneakers. As much as she loved her heels, they needed to come off sometimes, even though those shoes were so beyond comfortable. Brittani trotted across the wings to the boys' side and knocked on the door before opening it completely. She smiled at Nicky. "Come on. I'm here to steal you," she said. Brittani moved her fingers in between Nicky's and gave his hand a squeeze as they made their way slowly back towards her room. Dani was still out, probably hanging with Alyssa or the rest of her little posse, comparing notes about what they would wear to the party tonight. "Okay, so here are you options for tonight, since I'm sure you heard by now about Travis' party. We could get dinner here and the go to the party. We could go out and get dinner and go to the party. Or we could get dinner either here or out and come back here and watch movies or something." Brittani smiled at him. "It's up to you, baby. Whatever you wanna do."

A party, there could not be a better form in mingling with the company. Mona had met a few people in the course of the day but had yet to meet all. And if there was one rule in her book to take over was she needed every bit of detail and dirty secret she could grasp. Of course it was still early in the game to be worried for such thing. This party would be the perfect place to go 'fishing' seek out those who were bait, those who were prey, and those catches she would let go. It was no surprise even as a new girl that she heard word of this Travis boy and his party, and the girl's eyes just sparkled in mischief. A mansion party and a vast group of teens, Mona simply could not wait to go on the prowl.

Most of the day was spent attached to the hip as always to Jules. Just learning their way around, pointing out interesting people, people who just by sight annoyed them, those the definitely had to party with. In a funny turn of events it only took seconds for Mona to pick what she thought would be Jules lover boy. If there was something Mona could have fun with was playing match maker to her best friend, and an intriguing match had come upon the table just seconds after they had taken a seat that morning. Jude was simply adorable with his introduction, another and obvious new kid added to the mix with the rich kids. It was still to early to know exactly what the story was with him, but from the moment she leaned over the table and introduced herself to him, Mona knew the boy meant some fun.

Eventually the girls broke away from each other, taking their separate ways to their dorms to get ready. Mona was taken by surprised when meeting her new roommate, a rather cute little delinquent fortunately for Mona. A smirk and mischievous grin played together when she met the girl, "Maybe this place won't be so bad after all...' Was her first thought upon the introduction.

Mona was slipping on her jacket, taking one last look in the mirror, blowing a kiss to herself. In hopes of making friendly she had invited her roommate to tag along with Jules and herself, they would make the most interesting little trio. Having ripped the seam of her bag finally she was able to pocket a lighter and pack of cigs it was one of the few things she was able to smuggle in, though she secretly hoped that this party had stronger favors. "Hey, Ina? Meet you out front okay? Gotta go check if Jules is ready to go."

                                                            User Image

Mona blew the bit of smoke from her lips, small circles of the toxic exhale breathe of air floating away. Eyes gazed upon the mansion and she could not help but snicker, shaking her head a bit annoyed. Already the place had quite a few guest, which was perfect since Mona quite enjoyed an entrance or more like just hated to be the first poor sap to arrive. "Rich f*cks, look at this place." It was rather frustrating, from where she grew up to see how some spoiled brat not only hand ths mind blowing house but allowed a bunch of teens to trash it, already he had made it onto her prey list. Mona did not linger much outside turning to Jules and Ina with a smile before urging them along, quickly making herself through the crowds and inside to scan the party and it's guest. "Well ladies, let's make a night of this and have fun." Looking around she saw at least one extra familiar face, turning to Jules and winking before walking toward him. Jude was in the mix of people and Mona fought her way through the crowd to reach him. From behind she threw her arms over him, resting her chin on his shoulder. "Hey new boy, funny seeing you here."

The day was spent how her mother would have wanted— in class. Jules wasn’t a fan of most of her teachers but her English teacher was pretty cool, which she chalked up to him being younger than forty. In her eyes, once someone turned thirty it was all downhill from there. Judging by the adults she’d dealt with, that rang true. But she was surprised to see that she wouldn’t be stuck learning things she’d already been taught in repetition since she began school. That was a plus, if she absolutely had to attend class. The promise of a huge party that night also helped the school side of the day seem less depressing. Mona was her constant companion, as they always had been. She was sure that even if they didn’t have the same classes they would have just switched off going to each other’s until the teachers got pissed and kicked them out. That was how it worked at their old school, at least.

But Mona, Mona was already playing Cupid. The boys at the table that morning hadn’t been all that intriguing, except for one— Jude. Mona had it in her mind that she and Jude were meant to be lovers. The idea of being pushed on someone like that was a bit annoying but it wasn’t like the guy was bad looking or anything. He was cute, she would give him that. A sense of humor was also something she appreciated and his little joke about being a new kid was enough to get a chuckle out of Jules. Mona made it seem like they had to hook up immediately— for as long as possible. The teasing she would get if they did hook up would never end and Jules knew that— Mona would hold on to her “perfect match” until the relationship, or whatever it ended up being, imploded. It was hard for Jules to find guys anything more than attractive. Her romantic life was very much separate from her sex life. Pretty much any attractive boy, or girl, that caught her eye was in the running to hook up with her. But to actually date someone was a very different matter. Not many people would guess but Jules was actually very selective about who she dated. Hookups were harmless fun and they made for a great time and filled the days when she was lonely, but her last relationship was years ago. Her drug dealer boyfriend who got her hooked in the first place, and the man who introduced her to her best friend.

Ever since she had cleaned up from the drugs, Jules hadn’t met someone she felt capable of dating. It didn’t help that her behavior was drastically different around men she had a crush on, or feelings for at all. She turned into a little school girl who couldn’t look them in the eye or get out a semi-intelligent sentence to fall from her lips. No, it was much better just to sleep with people. Whether Jude would end up being one of those people wasn’t clear, but Jules wasn’t opposed to the idea. Their small interactions at the breakfast table weren’t anything to write home about, but Mona seemed to see it as promising. Jules had to keep distracting her with other people they saw throughout the day just to get her off the subject. Most of the people they came across were stereotypical rich kids, which just made Jules cringe. She did not want to deal with those types every day but that was the sad truth. They were at an expensive boarding school— it came along with that. They had seen a couple other tattooed kids in passing but they hadn’t spoken. The sight of other ink was like a homing beacon to her. At least the girls weren’t alone in this. They would have been fine on their own, but it was comforting nonetheless.

Of course outfit changes had to be made for the party. Jules had to get down, and that meant looking her best. The heels she wore were “drunk approved” in that the heel wasn’t a stiletto and they had straps around the ankle so she wouldn’t topple off of them when she danced. Dancing was a must when she got drunk— it was just a natural reaction after she got a few shots in her. Jules wasn’t the type of girl to deal with tiny martinis and pink drinks with umbrellas— she wanted Jack and Coke or shots of whatever was hard and handy. Drinking was meant to get someone drunk so why would she waste her time on those things?

Standing in front of the mansion, Jules’ motions with her cigarette mirrored Mona’s nearly perfectly. The three girls stood out in the neighborhood, that was for sure. She was glad to see that Mona’s roommate wasn’t a loser. She’d yet to meet hers, but that didn’t bother her much— if she never saw the girl that would have been just fine. Ina was a cool chick, from what she could tell. And they certainly made an interesting trio from a glance. It made Jules laugh to herself that the three of them looked like a girl gang. Or that they would beat the s**t out of anyone who looked at them sideways. Which, well, it might have been the case. It was hard to tell. But the overall look of them was amusing to the blonde.

Inside the place was already packing up, which was good. She hadn’t signed up for a lame party with barely any people. The more the merrier— it made things more interesting and much louder. Jules liked loud. It took her a moment to figure out what Mona was winking at her about but then she spotted Jude as her friend walked towards him. She fought the urge to roll her eyes but followed behind instead, smiling at Ina and taking her hand so they wouldn’t get separated. They reached Mona in time to hear her speak to Jude. If Jules didn’t know better, she would have thought her friend wanted the guy for herself. But Mona was more of the type to have a harem of men then to just stick to one. That would have been a rare sight indeed.

“Yo,” Jules nodded at Jude once she was in his view. Her eyes then turned to look for a nearby bar, or at least a bottle she could spot. Just like magic, a guy close by was holding a bottle of Jack and looked as though he’d had quite a bit of it already. How he’d managed that so quickly, she didn’t know, but she saw her opportunity. Waltzing over with swaying hips, she came up on the guy’s side with a winning smile. “Hey darlin’, think you could spare this?” Her eyes were locked on his as she easily pulled the bottle out of his hand and raised it up so he could see. What happened next was not exactly in the plan— he gave her a drunken smile before his face looked shocked and he turned to the opposite side of her and puked. Jules immediately started laughing and pulled her hand up to cover her mouth. “Don’t worry, I get that a lot!” The laughter didn’t stop as she shook her head and walked back over to the group.

“Dude is a lightweight and he can’t hold his liquor,” she said taking a long swig from the bottle. “That’s just depressing.” A grin spread grew on her mouth as she held the bottle out for her friends. “No worries, he didn’t get puke on it.” Another small giggle followed her words.

The security at Worthington’s was fairly stupid, Taylor had decided. He wasn’t sure if his little trick was going to fly or not— putting strips of acid in a breath strip container— but they hadn’t even opened the container to look inside. He didn’t really think they’d look for acid but who knew? Maybe his parents had tipped off the staff or something. What they did on their time was lost to him. Why he was even at a boarding school was unclear to him— didn’t he get good grades and not skip classes most of the time? From his perspective, Taylor was a wonderful child, an artistic child that should be celebrated. Not sent off like a b*****d son in the 1600’s. But as long as he was able to stay creative it didn’t really matter to him where it occurred.

With his little sleight of hand unnoticed, the rest of the day was boring by comparison. Classes were classes anywhere they were held, that much was obvious. Taylor would be learning everything he had at his old school, only minus his friends. Making friends wasn’t hard in his opinion but whether people chose to become friends with him wasn’t his choice. It was lost on him that he might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Taylor only saw the good in himself and thought that as long as he was a good person who was nice to everyone then everything would fall into place. But after spending hours on campus and not having one person even say hello to him, his confidence was waning slightly. It didn’t take long to eavesdrop on a group of girls chattering about a party that night. Parties weren’t generally his way to have a good time— he would have rather gotten high and watched a movie or listened to an album— but it seemed as though everyone was going to be in attendance. Or at least the girl who were talking about someone named Travis looked popular enough to be in the know about these things. The look he garnered once they noticed him standing somewhat awkwardly close to them was confusing but Taylor let it go and walked away— he got what he wanted. If a party was the epicenter of social interaction at Worthington’s then he would have to attend. At least he might have more of a chance to talk to people once they were a little tipsy. Taylor’s personality seemed to go down easier to people when they weren’t sober.

Even with a headful of long dreads, Taylor wasn’t one who didn’t care about his appearance. He wasn’t a dirty person, either. The stereotype of white boys with dreads was that they stunk of body odor and patchouli but this dreadhead made sure to shower daily. His hairstyle wasn’t an excuse to not take care of himself— it just made him feel cooler. Since he’d had a long flight into California, once classes were dismissed he found his dorm again and showered again. Planes made him feel stale and slightly filmy— all those people sharing the same recirculated air for hours on end. It wasn’t the most appealing thing to him. Dressing was easy but Taylor did pause for a moment when picking out a shirt. From what he’d witnessed that day, his style wasn’t exactly popular at his new school. But ultimately he said screw it and wore what he would have to any other place. At least he was presentable and smelled fresh. That was what counted, right?

The walk to the party wasn’t as long as he had expected. That was both a bad and good thing for Taylor— on one hand, he enjoyed walking and never learned how to drive, and on the other, he didn’t want to be traipsing around for hours trying to find the place. Considering the “breath strip” he’d put on his tongue before he left his dorm, getting lost would have not ended well. Or maybe it would have, he would never know. Time and experiences forked off once something was decided and he would never know the other outcome. But it was easy enough to find the mansion the party was in— the entire building was throbbing with music. Taylor could almost see threads of the songs slither out the windows. He had to make sure they weren’t snakes first— he hated snakes. But once he was certain, he made his way up the driveway and into the house.

The house itself was large enough to house four families. Of course, he had no idea the size of this Travis’ family, but he doubted heavily they needed that much space. It seemed wasteful except for when this particular event presented itself— the building was packed with groups of people. There was still room to walk around, somewhat, which was good. But the things cluttering the space were prevalent enough to make Taylor worry about knocking something over. Everything looked so expensive— there was no way he’d be able to pay for something he broke. Which was the polite thing to do. He would have to be extra careful.

Since drinking wasn’t really his game, the alcohol scattered around didn’t interest him. Instead, Taylor found a couch that had a spot free and wandered through the room a little aimlessly before he found himself in front of it. The trip around the living room seemed like it took hours and he was exhausted by the time he plopped down between two people. The girl and boy seemed a little annoyed he’d sat down but he just flashed them a grin, turning his head back and forth between the two. The girl uttered something that sounded like “bleak” before they both took their leave. That gave Taylor more room to stretch out and he took advantage by spreading his arms across the back of the couch. The movements of the people around him seemed to be either sped up or slowed down but he was enjoying himself for the moment. His foot tapped in time with the beat of the song playing. It definitely wasn’t the music he would have listened to normally but it was good enough for the environment.
