Saturday days moved for slow for Meghan. She did not have to be at the bar until ten tonight, seeing how she had promised Elaina that she would take the tail end of her shift so she could be off for her anniversary. Having to go to work meant that she could not really have much fun today, since most of Meghan's ieas of fun meant getting herself altered as all hell. As pathetic as it sound, Meghan looked forward to spending her weekends entirely plastered, for the most part. Was it healthy? No. Did she care? Not even a little bit.

Pulling her eyes from the ceiling of her too-quiet bedroom, she glanced at the clock. It was 12PM, and that meant the maybe half of the people she knew would probably be awake. She needed something to do. She had been living in this new apartment by herself for over a month now, but the constant silence from living alone, especially having moved from Jamie West's constantly bustling household, was difficult. Usually she found herself throwing parties on Saturday nights, but having work tonight ruined that. Sighing, she scrolled through her contacts.

Seeing Lissa's name, probably one of the only girls in her phone who was not there because of work, Meghan smiled. Lissa was the cute new friend she had made a few months ago. She was younger than Meg by a few years, but they seemed to click regardless. Kian had found her at a party and he had managed to convince her to come hang out down in Harrowsgate. Ever since then, they were just together. Liss got along really well with her little group of friends and she kept up really well. She had been incredibly sheltered before Meg and Kian had gotten their hands on her. Now she was taking shots, holding her liquor like a pro, and a regular at the Harrowsgate parties. Maybe it was not something Meghan should have been proud of, corrupting an innocent teenage girl, but she could not help it. It was nice, not being entirely alone.

Clicking Lissa's name, she keyed in her text. Typing in her words, she noticed the shake in her hands and rolled her eyes. God, she was too ******** dependent on nicotine. She had left her cigarettes in some guy's car two days ago, and she had not had one since. Being as broke as she was, despite working two jobs, she couldn't really afford to buy her own cancer sticks. Jamie, being the friend he was, despite how against smoking he was, still bought them for her. He had agreed to one pack a week. If Meg told him she needed a new one because she had left hers in a dude's car, it meant too many questions. What dude? Why was she with him? Jamie was protective like that. He hated the way Meg threw herself around, and he made his opinon very clear. She was sure telling him she had hooked up with a guy she didn't really know in the backseat of his shitty car after work on Thursday would upset him. Most things she did these days upset him. He liked to say she had taken three steps back since she left his house, but Meg didn't agree. She was just being herself.
                                              To; Lissa
bbygirl, you busy? you should meet me at the tracks.
bring cigs if you have 'em. i'm desperate

With her message sent, she rolled herself out of bed. Her oversized tshirt hung loose aroud her waist, brushing against her skin. She was in the shirt and a pair of black underwear, and that was all. It was a rare occurance for Meg to be wearing pants if she had the option, to be entirely honest. Of course, she couldn't exactly leave the house in her panties, so she snagged a pair of black skinny jeans off the floor and wiggled herself into them. Lissahad answered back saying she would meet her at the train tracks in fifteen minutes, so Meg wanted to make sure she was ready. She ran her fingers through her hair, fixed her eyeliner from the night before, and found a baggy light grey sweater to wear. It wasn't too chilly outside, but the air by the tracks always felt a little colder to her. Deciding she was ready, she locked her front door behind her and headed for the train tracks.

The train tracks were the very obvious divider between Harrowsgate and Byberry. They had been abandoned for years, so the foundations and stuctures surrounding it had been left to erode and fall away, making it seem more ominous than it was. Still, it had a tendency to attract the wrong kind of people. It was a popular place for teenagers to hang out and drink. There was graffiti all along the tracks, which were also littered with trash and broken bottles. Still, despite its shady appearance, Meghan had always been very drawn to them. When she was thinking, she had a tendency to walk alongside them. Sometimes she went miles without even realizing it. No matter how far she walked, they never really seemed to go anywhere important, other than just "away", which was sometimes all a person needed.

The tracks appeared to be empty when she reached them, as they usually were during the day. Stepping over the rail, she made her way slightly to the left, until she reached one of the short cement pillars. Sitting down, she leaned her back against it. Even though she knew Lissa would not be able to see her once she got to the bridge on Byberry's side of the tracks, she knew she would find her. This had been their meeting spot for weeks now, after all.

O.O.C;; I apologize for this being so sucky. I'm posting from my phone. It takes forever, but I wanted to get us started ❤

Alex had a love/hate relationship with Saturday mornings. She liked to relax into her pillow when she woke up, the streams of sunlight slipping through the cream-colored curtains hung over her bedroom window in the house she shared with her best friend, Liam, in Byberry. But Saturday mornings were the realistic introduction into the weekend, a rude awakening from the dreamlike qualities of a good Friday night out with friends. Saturday mornings were a reminder that in exactly 24 hours, it would be Sunday morning, and the weekend would be more than halfway over. It was an unbearable thought, but it was all Alex could think about every Saturday morning.

But here she went, worrying again.

She rolled over and disconnected her phone from the nightstand that sat adjacent to her bed. Even though her and Liam were pretty much used to living together by now in their home, it was still strange to wake up to a bedroom that was not the childhood room Alex had lived in the entirety of her life. She still had all of the same furniture, though--carved wooden pieces from a local furniture store, painted an egg white color, peeling in some places due to mediocre quality and age. But the window was in the wrong place, her desk was tightly crammed into a corner, and the scent of her room was a revealing scent of fresh paint and packing tape despite the cinnamon-scented candle that burned cheerily in the corner, attempting to mask any betraying smells that should indicate this was not her home now.

It was all a part of growing up, and yet it was insanely depressing. However, it was also the same routine Alex underwent every day--being a person of routine and a victim of OCD, these thoughts were natural, all part of a system that helped her not freak out by the end of the day. It would've been abnormal for her to not have these thoughts every morning.

She sat up, blinking the sunlight out of her eyes, phone cradled protectively in her hand. She unlocked it, hunched over as she scrolled through notifications and texts of picture tags on Facebook, mentions on Twitter, and various messages.

Alex went over her schedule for this Saturday in her mind as she scrolled absently through social media. She had to be at work in an hour's time, but thankfully she lived in Byberry, which was just a casual stroll away from her workplace, Hilltown's premier coffee shop, Hilltown Cafe. After work, which should only last through the breakfast rush up until the early afternoon, when the lunch crowd began, she was completely free for the day. Which reminded her...

She lifted herself out of bed, balancing her phone in her palm as she moved quietly about her room, gathering what she needed to wear for the day as she moved about her routine. She paused at the doorway of her room once she'd gathered her clothes, stopping to send a text to her boyfriend, Asher.

                                              To: Asher Newsome <3

Message: Good morning, babe. heart What are you up to today? I have morning shift @ Hilltown Cafe, and then I'm free at 1.

She then set her phone on her dresser and continued down the hall to the bathroom. Once she'd showered and done all of her morning preparations, dressed up in her work outfit, she moved briskly down the hall from the bathroom and knocked a familiar rhythm on the door of Liam's bedroom--it was a rhythm they had used in greeting to one another's houses since they were small kids. "Get a move on, sleepy, it's a new day," she said in a gentle tone, waiting patiently for her best friend to respond.

tab Alyssa Tempest was used to feeling strange in her surroundings. She hadn't felt normal ever, no matter where she was. When she was small, she used to imagine that she was a time traveller that had gotten stuck in the wrong time on her way back. Or maybe she was Alice, having grown too uncomfortably big in the White Rabbit's house and she just did not fit in. People at school looked at her as if she were an alien. She was pretty, they said, but she was strange. The gossip stopped a long time ago, since most kids liked some kind of reaction when they were being mean, whether it was crying or fighting back. But Lissa never paid attention to anything, mostly because she couldn't. Her head was wrapped around her younger siblings. She was not present, ever.

tab The Tempest matriarch, Beth, was no more ready to be a mother than she was willing. She enjoyed her wild child lifestyle, ever since she was young. She had gotten herself knocked up at sixteen years old, a little boy she named Lochan, who was Lissa's older brother. She didn't look back, and she definitely did not settle with anyone. Beth went on to have four more children, and as they all got older, she made herself more and more scarce. Lissa was born exactly eleven months after her brother, making the two of them the oldest and subsequently in charge of the little ones. There was Tiffin who was thirteen now, Kit was ten, and the littlest was Willa at seven years old.

tab Lochan and Lissa had been taking care of their younger siblings ever since Lissa could remember, though she didn't start helping to take care of them until she was thirteen or so. Lochan made it his responsibility for a little while, but Lissa didn't like what the pressure was doing to him, so she forced him to let her help. Not that Lochan looked any less stressed out after that. Lissa grew up very quickly from having to turn into a pseudo-mother at such a young age. She did the household chores - getting the kids bathed, making dinner, cleaning the house - and Lochan took care of the bills and finding their mother to get her to write them checks for the bills they needed paid. Eventually, their mother just stopped coming home, preferring to pretend she had no family and live with whatever man she was seeing. It was better that way. She used to bring the men to their house, but after Lissa threatened to call the police when one particular boyfriend had tried to force himself on her when she was fifteen, Beth had decided to just leave her children at home and move in with her boyfriends.

tab It was all very hard, living the way they were. There was no time to be teenagers. They had to come straight home and make sure the kids were fed, bathed and had their homework done. Kit had such a hard time in school, and grasping concepts was so difficult for him, which was incredibly stressful. Tiffin was very angry all the time, and prone to violent outbursts that usually ended up upsetting little Willa, who didn't understand anything that was going on. Sometimes, Lochie was unable to find their mother, so their lights were shut off sometimes, sometimes there was no electricity, and once in the dead of winter they had their heat shut off, which was not okay. Everything just kept building and building on top of each other, and Lissa knew she couldn't last much longer this way.

tab One night, after getting into a fight with Lochan over whether or not she should stay in school or drop out and get a job to help pay for the bills, Lissa was rummaging through their lock box that held all the important papers - the deed to the house, everyone's birth certificates, medical records, whatever. She had known that all of her siblings and herself had different father, and thus, they all had different last names. She wasn't entirely sure what possessed her, but Lissa ended up taking Lochan's birth certificate to the library with her the next day and researching the birth father's name printed on the certificate. She wasn't expecting to find anything, really, but she did. A lot of news articles from Pennsylvania, praising him and his business partner. Apparently they were this top notch commercial reality firm. He was successful, happy, and married. There were quite a few photos that showed him with a beautiful, smiling wife, but Lissa couldn't find any children at all, even though their marriage records said they'd been married for almost ten years now. Lissa ended up finding their last known address from Google, and she wrote the most heartfelt, desperate letter to this family, not expecting a response at all. However, a week later, Lissa was called to the principal's office at school. There, waiting for her, was the man and woman she'd found on Google. Their lives flipped on their heads in a matter of seconds.

tab They'd been living with Robbie and Gina Tempest now for almost eight months, and Lissa could honestly say that she did not miss Illinois at all. Pennsylvania was amazing and new. The older Tempests' house was immaculate and warm. Each child was given their own room, which apparently was still an amazing thing since they all were still talking about it to this day, and things were becoming okay. She'd actually made some friends - real actual people that she hung out with! - and she actually had a social life now. Things were really great, and Lissa was so happy where she was. It actually finally felt like the universe wasn't against her, and that was a nice feeling.

tab Lissa had spent her morning helping with chores around the house when she'd gotten the text from Meg to hang out. Her parents really encouraged Lissa to be a teenager, since she never got to be one growing up, which had its negatives and positives. Lissa enjoyed having friends, but most of her friends partied and got drunk on the weekends, with Lissa included. But her parents didn't know that. Lissa grabbed her bag from her room and, after pulling on her comfy Vans, she left the house. Apparently hanging out with the kids below the track made Lissa bad news to some people, but Lissa liked to consider herself blind. She wouldn't want people to judge her for where she came from or what she'd been through, so why would she judge others? Lissa stopped and grabbed lunch on the way and smiled when she hopped the fence and found Meg sitting on the ground, looking jumpy. "Hey, babe. I brought you Chipotle and smokes. Tell me you love me," she said playfully, squatting down next to her best friend, offering both the bag of food and the pack of cigarettes. "I can't believe you left your s**t in that guy's car. Who even are you?" Lissa teased her, leaning her head on Meg's shoulder. "Or what were you on? Do I even wanna know?"

It was the minor things about living on your own that seemed to get to Liam. Cooking for himself? Check. Cleaning the bathrooms? No problem. Paying rent and utilities on time so he didn't get kicked out of a dark apartment? Didn't even sweat it. But he still hadn't gotten used to getting to sleep in all week but having to wake up early on Saturdays for work.

He drifted in shallow waters between the sea of sleep and the solid ground that is fully awake. Half-formed thoughts filled his mind like little fish; whenever he put his mind to catching one it would slip between his fingers and dart away. That didn't stop him from trying though.

Last night he'd gone out with friends. He remembered having fun, but not what he did. Even though he kept telling himself he'd stop going out on Friday's to make Saturday mornings easier. Not that Liam was the type who couldn't get up in the mornings. He'd drag himself out of bed before it got too late. But it was the difference between lifting 50 pounds versus 100. He'd prefer the 50.

The knock on his dorm was like a squall that blew him to shore. He opened his eyes.

Waking up early to teach a bunch of kids how to pirouette still meant waking up quite a bit later than a barista working the morning shift. The familiar rhythm brough a smile to Liam's face, and the smile transformed into a smirk as he decided to get her back for waking him. Estimating where her head would be, he raised his pillow above his head and chucked it at the door, hoping to startle her. And just to tease her a bit more, he'd stay completely silent if she tried to get a verbal response out of him, just to make her think he was pissed at being woken up. At the last second when he heard her footsteps starting to walk away from his room, he'd call out, "Have a lovely day Alex!" Text me when you're off work if you want to hang out. Is what he almost said, the words rising in his throat when he remembered that she'd probably want to spend the day with her boyfriend.

That tripped him up sometimes, having to remember which one of them was dating at any given moment. There were times when neither of them were in a relationship and they'd hang out all the time. Other times when one or both of them were dating someone and they didn't see each other as much. It didn't affect their relationship.

But this time Alex was the one dating while Liam wasn't. Not that he was jealous or anything of the sort. No matter what everyone else said, he and Alex were just friends, nothing more. It would be too weird to date his best friend. He'd never even been attracted to her, but maybe that was due to knowing her since she was a snot-nosed kid.

Liam's smile would fade away with Alex's footsteps, a taciturn expression settling in like bugs eagerly swarming to a surface the second the sun's rays disappeared. He leaned back into his bed sans pillow, prepared to snooze for the next hour. He would just need to find something else to do today. As his boat drifted away from the shore, he tried to work down the list of which of his friends might be available.

He woke up early and had been studying all morning in his underwear. It was noon, which meant it was officially time to start relaxing. He hopped into the shower hoping to let his mind relax for a while. He could only think of his big life plan instead. He needed to get married, finish law school, become a successful attorney, and have a family. Rom let out a big sigh. He was halfway on course. How did he get so lost? He pressed his forehead against the shower wall. Time to think was always a bad idea. He thought himself in circles and only ended up more confused and upset at himself.

His father was constantly bringing up his own affairs and praising Rom for his. Although it made his father proud, Rom didn't exactly feel the same way. He slipped out of the shower with much less energy than he had when he started. He lazily made enough eggs for two people just the way Tally liked them. He wasn’t sure if she had eaten yet but wanted to make sure she had been fed. He wasn’t even sure if she was home, he had been tucked away and focused on his studies.
                      User Image

“Tally?” He called for his fiancé. He smiled upon hearing her name. She was feminine and gorgeous. She was driven and smart and above all she was kind. Tally was the first person he had ever felt close to. He loved everything about her. She deserved better than him. “Tally I made you food,” he knew he would feel better if he could see her smile. He searched for her in every room of the house with a tray in hand. Eggs, toast, orange juice, and a banana. “I’ll feed you baby, you hungry?” He found her in their bedroom. "It's my breakfast time so I made this. Even though you probably had something earlier... You hungry baby?" He asked again as he smiled at her. She was so beautiful without ever trying.

After laying in bed with his fiancé for a while he finally fell asleep. His nap lasted a couple hours. When he woke up grumpy, he thought about how tried studying made him. It was getting dark outside and in Tallon's place was their dog Stevie. He wanted to go to a bar after dinner but didn't know who to go with. He didn't have anyone he was close with other than Tallon. Sure, he had Remi Spencer. They were casual friends and grew up together. He could make plans with her but it might send the wrong message. He couldn't just go to a bar with another girl. Were there any other options? Not really. Damn he needed to get out more. He had struggled to make friends for most of his life. Rom was critical about others or grew apart from them quickly. He had many acquaintances but no one he would want to see right now. Maybe it was about time to try to change his attitude.

Rom's stomach growled. He realized he hadn't eaten all day. He was so focused on finding and feeding Tallon that he forgot to eat the eggs he made for himself. He pet the dog and rolled out of bed. He dragged himself down the spiraling staircase, he walked on the dark hardwood, and grazed his fingers on the granite countertops in the kitchen. He threw away the cold eggs and left the plate in the sink. Then he made himself some pasta for dinner. Again, he made sure there was enough for Tally if she wanted any. Speaking of which, he wondered about her. He texted her between stirring pasta. To: Wife - Hey babe I'm making dinner are you coming home? :) He thought about texting Meghan but decided against it. He would see her when he saw her. Plus he was trying to resist her.

He finished up the food before Stevie came down and the fur ball nuzzled his face between Romulus' ankles. Rom rubbed both sides of Stevie's face “I’ll walk you as soon as I'm done eating little guy, I promise. Why don't we feed you too?” He filled up the dog bowl then sat on the couch alone. Nights like these, Rom liked to watch some TV while he ate. Stevie soon came to sit next to him. His parents never liked when Stevie would get on the furniture or the special hardwood floors but Rom had a different attitude. Stevie loved the crap out of Rom and he would take that affection anywhere he could get it. Even if it meant he would have a dirty, torn up couch, he had his friend with him.
