Sunshine shone down on the young blonde woman. The streets were filled with quite a few people today, and as she tried to weave in and out between them she tried to enjoy the sunshine. Today was a beautiful day and it seemed everyone was trying to enjoy it at least a little. Sunny, but really quite hot. A very normal day in Pinefort, Pennsylvania, and a typical day in the life of Colette Mar. Meaning absolutely nothing was happening. School was boring, but her professors cut classes early today. 'Really seems like everyone is trying to enjoy the amazing weather. Especially the professors.' The blonde looked down at her watch. 2:37 was the time and she was really going to be early today. Once a week, usually on Thursdays at 3:00, Colette and a few friends got together at the local cafe to catch up. Everyone was on completely different schedules so it was somewhat hard to get together these days. Everyone was living different lives. Lettie's was filled with music and her cat, Lola. Her parents were gone somewhere doing doctor business. All her friends were off at their colleges learning whatever it was they majored in. Lettie was basically alone if it wasn't for Lola.

Slowly Colette approached the cafe which happened to be bustling with people. The blonde let out a sigh of frustration. It was just her luck. There wasn't anywhere for the young blonde to sit with so many people just sitting and talking. Looking for a comfortable place to get out of the heat. She pulled out her phone to see if any of her friends text her if they were going to be late, or early like herself, but her inbox was empty. Lettie let out another sigh and her pale green eyes looked around her surroundings. Many times she had walked down this street only to know one building entirely. 'Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to wander a bit. Seeing as I'm early and there will be no way for me to find a seat yet.' With that thought she turned from the cafe to start heading down the street when something out the corner of her eye caught her attention. To any normal person what she saw wouldn't have bothered her, but the thing was this wasn't the first time she saw this particular situation. A young man just stood against the wall staring into space. Alone and uncaring. No one seemed to notice him. No. No one noticed him at all. It was if he wasn't there. For a split second it even looked like someone walked through him. A cold chill ran up Colette's spine. This wasn't the first time she has seen them. It's been going to for weeks and when ever she brought up them to her friends they all looked at her really weird. People who weren't there? Impossible. Before the young man could take notice that Lettie could see him she quickly turned away and began walking down the street. She just needed to get away from there as quickly as possible. She felt like she was going crazy seeing people that clearly no one else could see. That even looked like others could just walk through them.

The young blonde stopped to look at her surroundings. She hadn't gone very far and she really didn't want to get lost. 'Like you could get lost in this town.' Lettie happened to stop in front of an old bookstore. It looked almost empty inside. Everyone on the street was hurrying past it without even a second glance. Hell, she would have walked right past it if she didn't want to wander too far from where she was suppose to meet her friends. With how boring things have been lately she moved towards the door of the store. A new book was always nice to have, and it was a new place for her to explore. With all thoughts of the man at the cafe out of her head she headed into the bookstore. A small bell announced the blondes presence to the stores inhabitants.

It was already half-passed two. Every day around this time, Houston lost most of his energy. He wasn't really sure how or why, it was like that stereotypical "two-thirty" feeling he'd always see on those energy drink commercials. He'd wonder if it was psychological. Perhaps it was a marketing ploy. If so, advertising was pretty ahead of its time, literally implanting feelings into its viewers through a television screen a-la-Inception.

During this time, on most days, he'd retreat to the back of the Notting Hill Book Shop, a shop his sister and he ran as their only solid job, and took to organizing and reorganizing the oldest books in the store, though they'd been fully organized years ago and never disorganized. Today, Houston wore a simple brown cardigan over a light blue dress shirt and dark, slim jeans. He heard his sister, Pheonix, call from the front of the store every now and then, usually giving her opinion with that annoying nasally voice of hers, or asking him something about a movie she just couldn't remember. At which point, he'd either call her out on her stupidity, or give the name of the movie before she could finish her sentence. That's really all Houston ever did. Watch movies, read books, and occasionally go out. It was a pretty simple set-up.

"Houston, get over here and make me some coffee. Your sister is thirsty and she needs her fix." The store would always smell like books and coffee. Old books and far-too-sweet coffee. It was sometimes intoxicating, especially during Houston's more low moments, where anything would upset him. Today, though, he found himself riding a very calm middle-wavelength. He wasn't too high, he wasn't too low.

"...You're the one who lives upstairs. I'm not going up there. It's ******** haunted."

Phoenix scoffed. "You're just saying that because of that stupid upside down chair thing. Mittens could've done that, you don't know."

                                                          "Mittens your ca--"

"Welcome to Notting Hill Books! Let me know if I can help you with anything.

It was around three o'clock when he heard the bell ring, but paid no mind to it. He thought about going upstairs to make himself a cup of coffee, but then remembered that there was a box of books in the store room that was just begging to give him something to do. He walked into the room opened the box with his keys, and took about ten copies of the large, hard-cover novels out. Carrying them to the front, he'd put them on display in the front window, the Oprah seal of approval sure to give it some attention, though his sister always argued that we didn't need middle-aged soccer mom customers.
