Riley was already sloshed. That strawberry lemonade four loco she chugged before getting in the car with Camilla was finally starting to hit her. Riley never imagined coming to the senior lock-in in the first place, but a lot has changed in her final year at Oak Hills.
Growing up with such a strong Christian background wasn't always the easiest thing, but for a while she accepted it. How could she not. As a "kingdom kid" it was all that she knew. She went to church religiously every Sunday and again on Wednesdays. She 's been through sixteen years of sermons, songs, youth groups, church camps, and so on. She took it for granted, but at some point the real world will intervene and ******** with everything you know and believed to be true. And when that happens there are two possible paths, perseverance or rebellion.
Obviously she choose rebellion, without it there would be no story. It was like she was Sleeping Beauty and her Prince Charming was marijuana and pink lemonade vodka shots. And when she finally woke up she felt like she'd been lied to, or I guess the better term would be brainwashed. She was afraid for the longest time and quickly found out for no good reason.
She stood quietly as her sister talked to Sage, unknowingly swaying to the beat of the music. Sage used to be a close friend, but she outgrew her like she did her religion.
