I don't know whether you want to keep your hair brown since it'll stand out from your black and white theme, but it doesn't really matter.

What really matters is the style. If you choose to do the top hat idea, you really couldn't keep your hair. Everything would layer wrong.

You need a style that'll make it look like a hat is actually on your head, not pasted on top of a picture.

One's that actually work include:

For all of them, a little bit is going to show, but not nearly as obvious as the style you have now. Whichever style you choose, I would recommend making the hair color the same color as the top hat. This will blend the hair into the hat.

Also, I'm not positive that it'll actually do that on Gaia. Gaia layering is slightly different from tektek. Personally, I would buy the hat and then preview the styles to be sure which one is best.
