The guilds have a recommend button, but when I tried to use it I couldn't get it to work.

Does anyone know what it is supposed to be for & why it doesn't work?

i believe it shows to your friends that you have recommended this guild. So any friends on your list may glance at the guild because of this. It sort of just means that you really like the guild 3nodding .

What it's suppose to do is recommend the guild to Gaia, as one to feature on the guild spotlight, or where it is that guilds are featured now. whee
