I think you should add The Costume Technician's Handbook by Rosemary Ingham and Liz Covey, to your list of books. It teaches just about everything you could think of for sewing garments, and is highly recamended for teaching body blocking and pattern drafting. It also has entire chapters on saftey in the costume lab, dyeing and painting fabrics, and costume accessories. It is also a popular textbook among begginer textiles classes.
Knitting is what I plan to learn how to do during Christmas break. I am particularly interested in ponchos. Any tips on how to start or what type of yarn to begin with?
Company: Singer
Make: Hmm... Not known.
Lifespan: It's a Victorian foot pedal type, so it's lasten at least 100 years so far.
Review: Excellent sewing, for such an old machine. How ever, it doesn't do many stitches.
Recommendation: If you like your vintage clothes to be really, really vintage, then invest in one of these. It's worth it. They sew really well, once you've mastered the technique. They don't bugger up as such as new machines do either.
