Sewing by hand will make things look "professional" if you have the patience most sewing-machine-users tend to lack... I mean, sewing machines have only existed since the mid-1700s, and have only been in widespread use since the late 1800s. Before then, clothes didn't magically sew themselves! (So, if you think about it, sewing my hand is quite the "purist" way to do it!)
I've sewn quite a few things by hand; but it really is time-consuming. Do what you want, I guess! (Oh I know, tons of help, eh? ^^) Just don't let your hand cramp up! (Happens to me when I embroider all the time *sigh,* I guess I should stop cracking my knuckles.)
PS: It's a box-stitch. Usually used to edge blankets, so it's aka a blanket stitch.
