Scrimshaw

I’m trying to get into scrimshaw and was wondering what material is best to start off using.

Also, is it possible to use hollow bones like chicken bones or should I just not even bother with that?

FYI, chicken bones (and, actually, avian bones in general) are much less dense -- almost like sponges, with tiny air pockets. It's an evolutionary adaptation to shed some weight for more efficient flying (less weight means it takes less energy to fly than it otherwise would).

That said, I'm not sure whether they can be used or not, but if so, it seems like they'd be pretty fragile, and awfully brittle. If you do try it out, just be gentle with them. wink
