I recently picked up cross-stitching again. Was wondering what everyones favorite piece is that they've done or seen. What you are working on now? Also are there any pictures you've seen that you'd like to see a pattern designed after.
My nana taught me to cross stitch when I was very little... like, five or six. But I haven't done anything for years. I've thought about getting back into it. I have a bunch of embroidery floss and hoops hanging around... but I just never get any fabric/canvas stuff.

I want to do a bunch of those "naughty sayings" ones. I love those... and any nerdy cross stitching.
I've done one similar to this.

Mom loves birds. But I'm crocheting a blanket right now. ^^

Oh gosh the white parts look like they'd be difficult on there. I'm working on a beauty and the beast one right now by thomas kinkade. And I know how difficult the bigger cross-stitch can be. I love how it's turning out but it's taking forever.

User Image That's the tail of a coat. It's... going slowly. =C And one of the purple shades looked a LOT darker before I split it. This is the one thing I don't like about my stitch program. The colors on the screen don't match the colors of the floss.

Since that project is so big, I sort of put it on the shelf and started up a smaller one that I can carry around in my purse.

I've looked at using a stitch program. I kind of wondered how well the colors would match up. I'll have to keep that in mind if I try it.
I crochet but my stepdaughter is into cross stitching. She just finished a set of Japanese bamboos that came out really good. biggrin
I had more fun making designs for cross stitch than actually doing it. One time I made a picture that would have looked like a painting when it was done. It was an eagle looking out over a canyon with a river at the bottom. I wish I still had it.

I had no idea those types of programs existed! I just googled a few. Did you pay for your program or were you able to find one for free? If you had to pay, how much?

Mine was free it's called KG chart for cross-stitching. They also have a free trial for the pro version. So if you wanted you could pick out the images or whatever you want to create a pattern from and then just use the pro version. Not sure if the trial is 7 days or what.

I have to say this tickles me because I'm working on the Tinker Bell close-up piece from the same collection.
This is my progress so far.

Oh I love how the outline around tinker bell looks. Don't they take forever though?! I've been working on my piece for months and the project is so much bigger then i thought. I liked the snow white piece, but at the rate i'm going i'm not sure i want to do another one this big. I was a little disapointed in the coloring for belle's dress on mine. They favor orange for some reason, and her dress looks orange instead of yellow. I kept thinking, "oh it'll look fine when i'm done." By the time i realized i should've picked my own colors it was too late. I'd gone to far and it would've been a nightmare to start over.

PC Stitch costs about $50. The trial version has no time limit BUT it won't save, so you'd have to do a whole pattern from start to finish in one sitting, and print out as many as you think you'll need.

My Photo Stitch is completely free, but you have to edit the image quite a bit before you run it through their program. It would be good for converting small graphics like pixel art or avatars into patterns.

You can also use your own art program. Most have the ability to put a grid over your image. If you imagine that every square of the grid represents a stitch, you can follow along the raw image. The only downside is that you have to match the floss colors yourself, and that can be tough if you don't have a ton of floss lying around the house.

Well, I don't have a day job or anything, so I have a lot of time on my hands. I've only been working this particular piece for about two and a half weeks. I'd love to do all 12 pieces, but I don't think I'll be able to afford the bigger kits. As it is, it takes me about 2 months to save up the $12 plus shipping for one of the smaller ones.

And that outline was a nightmare. I officially despise blending filaments. -_____-
