I do a little bit of chainmail, making the rings is the hardest part, I think. I do it as a small hobbie when there is nothing else to do. Have not really made anything cept a bracelet. Other then that I just make sheets of it.

It takes time and patience, but little skill. The worst part is the repetition.

It's addicting, as it's pretty easy to make and the results are always awesome. smile

there are soo many different websites that explain maille weaving
by farthe art of chainmail is the best site i've found. it has tips for all your beginner's needs and a handfull of great patterns.
if you want more patterns or more creative weaves, just look up chainmail patterns on google

That is the same website I learned to make chainmaille 5 or 6 years ago. I've been making it ever since (more like obsessed with it ever since, look at my name). Another good website is http://www.mailleartisans.org/ They have every weave I know plus many, many, many more.

Currently I am working on a 16G 3/8" Galvy kings-mail coif.

if ur wondering about the specs on the suit of maile...
It's 12 ga. stainless 4-1 weave
Gets really heavy really fast.
I just finished the yoke
it's about 10-15 lbs.

This is so badass! I'm really impressed =D I've been wanting to try it, but never got up the motivation to tackle maile. I don't have a whole lot of experience with metals or jewelry-making, so it looks pretty intimidating. Your pieces are really motivational though, and the sites that you recommended are very knowledgeable and easy-to-understand. Thanks on my end - sorry for the lack of info for you though. Keep up the amazing work =D

Thanks, [Zana]!! heart

Help me? whee

Chainmail is somethign I do, usually while watching TV, between my PS2 (and Rock Band), Legos, jewelry making, and other crap (I have WAY too many projects!), and I have no problems making my own rings. I just wrap 14 ga. steel wire around a dowel, using a pair of locking pliers as a crank, and cut 'em off with heavy duty wire cutters, and just use a smaller dowel with my copper connecting rings. Right now I'm slowly progressing on a 6-in-one shirt (I could never get the 4-in-one started).

You will always get distracted from whatever it is that you want to focus on.

12G? I have a peice with 12G 1/2" rings. That I would wear into battle. Hell it's stronger than some riveted maille I've made. Butted is much easier and more pleasing to the eye I think. Thats why I never got into riveted maille.
