Nice to meet you, Jain! ^__^ The scarf sounds awesome.

For Christmas presents, I think I'm just going to make a bunch of smallish 'gurumis and turn them into keychains for my friends. The donuts and fried eggs would probably work nicely for this... And thankfully I'm already stocked up with keyrings.

I think I might make the Star Wars character Wicket for one of my sisters... it looks like it could be a bit of a challenge, but she really loves ewoks (she has 2 plushies already).

Haha, I was never really interested in Star Wars... but I have to admit, Yoda is a pretty funky thing...

I just started amigurumi 3 days ago... it is way to fun to do... I ave made 1 animal and a bunch of fruits and veggies... here is a great pattern fo keychains -http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=158466.0

Hey, we're both in Sculpted. ninja

I just recently started amigurumi.
I think it's fascinating.
I just wish that I could find some clip on eyes.
Green cat eyes to be exact...
Anyway, love the ami's you've made.

Would you buy the charms and plushies I make?

I want to make some keychains too! That sounds like fun, but I don't have the key ring part. Sushi scarf is almost done. Here is a picture of the last amigurumi I made. I haven't done any in a while, been working on other projects. But I think I will be making some for Christmas.

This thread has been super helpful for me. I've just gotten into Amigurumi this week, although at the moment I'm still learning the basics and getting grumpy with it. My Pinky fingers don't cooperate very well yet. gonk

I came across Kooky Crotchet and Mr Funkys in a store and bought them after seeing so many cute Amigurumi animals online and wanting to try it myself. I feel a little out of my element at the moment as I usually sew with felts but its reassuring to know that you started from complete scratch too. I'll try harder and not get discouraged.

I'm in sculpted too!

*le gasp* Those apples are so cute!
I've just finished my first ami donut! Whoot for me! xD
@Jain: Those are so cute! Where did you get the black eyes? biggrin
@ Nekolover: Haha, yes, amigurumi isn't only fascinating because I'M doing it! xd [Just kidding! sadly...]

I recently got into crochet and amigurumi, so this thread is timely and helpful to me.

I hope no one minds my asking, but I was looking at some amigurumi patterns, and being the newbie that I am to the craft, I don't quite get what the patterns are asking for. For instance, when a pattern asks that I chain 2 (ch2), then 6 single stitches (sc) in second chain from hook, I don't quite get what is meant by the single stitching in second chain from hook.

This is from an amigurumi pattern, so I presume has to be done in the round.
Can anyone help me better picture the pattern instructions so I can attempt to make something please?

Yes, almost all 'gurumis are done in rounds, which is why a lot of patterns have the ch2, then 6sc in second chain from hook. What I end up doing is replacing that step with the 'Magic Adjustable Circle'.

I found the circle to work easier than the way the patterns were written, and with the magic circle the centers of the plushes were tighter (you don't want any gaps in the center of your rounds, or you could lose stuffing and it just doesn't look very neat).

So instead of ch2, 6 sc in second ch from hook, I simply make a circle, and sc 6 times over the yarn of the circle and pull it tight to form the center of the round.

Here's a link to a site which can show you the method that a lot of patterns recommend, though: Crocheting in rounds.

I hope I could help. >__< I'm relatively new to crochet (compared to a lot of folks), so I'm far from being an expert and just doing my best to share what helped for me while I was starting off.

I'm glad the thread has been of use! ^__^

I very nearly gave up on crocheting my first week, too. I kept thinking there was just no way I would ever be any good at it. Now I'm to the point I can finally start making things without carefully written instructions, which is liberating. So hang in there!

It took a lot of trial and error too. Somehow I crocheted an entire cupcake with slip stiches, not realizing the difference between single crochet and slip stitches... >__<

I really love the monkey, Jain! The ears are awesome. :3

Thanks! I got the black eyes from JoAnn. They probably have them online at JoAnn.com but I got mine in the store.

I also use the Magic Loop (or circle or whatever!) for all my work in the round, it's an invaluable tool.

I love those plastic safety eyes (I think that's what they're called). They look professional and Hobby Lobby sells them cheap. I have them in a bunch of colors, but I need to buy a few more sizes next time I go craft shopping. The ones I have are a little small for my current projects.

Yes, safety eyes, that's it! I found that the larger ones were on clearance at my store, I guess people don't use them as often. I wish I got some bigger ones too.

Ooh, I've been wondering where people get those cuute beady eyes from! Do you remember how much they cost? sweatdrop

Yay me! I just found an adorable amigurumi cupcake pattern!

-pats self on the back- I be very savvy and awesome.

they were 59 cents for a package of... 4 sets? i think it had four sets in it. they were all under a dollar, even the cat eyes. i just added a ton of links to the "crochet resources" thread in the Yarn-A-Holics guild so if you want free ami patterns just let me know what you are looking for. i have saved tons of bookmarks.

now questing tickets and tokens!
