@Piskie: Welcome! ^ ^
heart It's always fun to meet another amigurumi enthusiast.
That Gir is sooooo cool! Omg, I wants it~! I love how detailed it is and how the plush even poses like Gir would...
There is a free Invader Zim Gir pattern available, though. It's on my long list of projects to someday do... It's not nearly as nice as that Gir, but it could help to give you an idea on putting yours together:
weloveamigurumi: Amigurumi Gir
A craft-along (or an amigurumi-along, as it is in this case), is when several people agree to a pattern or a theme and try and complete the project within a certain amount of time, also adding their own spin to the pattern and design. I was thinking for this thread whoever completed the project, I would display everyone's results on the front page.

@limoria: That's awesome! *high fives* I really like the yarn you used for the frosting.

@robots at the disco: The eggs and toast were my favorite to crochet. ^ ^ I ended up making them magnets, so now they're on the fridge, looking all cute and brekkyfast-like.
Before doing amigurumi, I had only made chains as well and it took me a few days of messing around with the yarn and hook before I figured out how to correctly crochet in a spiral. You might want to check out some of these links for help...
Crochet Basics and Abbreviations
If you don't know what 'sc in next sc, then 2 sc in next' this is definitely a useful place to look.
Basic Crochet Instructions
This is one thing I did while starting out... I made a chain, which I had learned a long time ago, then learned how to turn and to work in the chain itself. Most amigurumi is done in a spiral, but it was still worthwhile to learn how to crochet a little sample, just to get a feel for working in the stitches.
Magic Adjustable Ring
A must-know for anyone wanting to do amigurumi. The first several times I tried this, it was confusing as heck to me... but definitely worth practicing until you feel comfortable with it.
Nimoe's Amigurumi Cupcake Tutorial
This was one of the most invaluable tutorials ever. It gives you a full explanation on how to put this thing together, row by row and even explains the abbreviations.
Hope the links and info helps. :3

@Jipsey: Kind of like my Grandma. She was an excellent sewer, but never really taught me much, so I ended up self-teaching myself how to sew too. Your very welcome for the links. They're pretty much just a cumulation of the links I found helpful myself while trying to teach myself crochet. I look forward to seeing your results some day!
