I've been watching, I've been waiting, In the shadows, for my time...

Sorry, I haven't got pictures yet... I will when I get my camera and my PC to work together... and when I can get on the internet after that. sweatdrop
EDIT: Okay, I have pictures, but unfortunately, they're crappy phone pictures. My PC and camera are still refusing to work together - I'm going to get the marriage councilors (IT department guys) in to crack it.
EDIT2: Camera lead died. D=

So, I'm pretty much doing market research here. I was thinking of filling my spare time (full-time Physics student here) with crafts, and would like some feedback on items that I was planning to make. (still working on them, mind)
I was thinking of selling them on Etsy, and also at local craft fairs (if I can find any). And, I'm not really taking how much time it took for me to make them into account at all - I'm just thinking of the cost of materials and a little so I get a small/tiny profit.

These are:
- crocheted roses (black, bright red and maybe other colours), with calyx and wrapped pipecleaner stem, stem about 10cm long and with some soft little thorns. They'd be about $2 to $2.50 each.
- simple slouch hats. Probably about $6 each, maybe $7 if they're multiple colours. It depends on the wool used, but the price here is for the basic wool - more expensive wools would cost more. Also, I may do hats with details, like little cat ears, roses or ribbon in the brim (probably ~$8 or 9)
- drinks cans (mountain dew, pearl tea, coca-cola etc) made into pots (or pencil holders, glasses or short vases... multifunctional, really). Probably about $1.50 each.
- knitted/crocheted hot beverage holders (for the to-go cups at Starbucks, and similar). Again, about $1 to $2 each. Or if more expensive wool used/pattern, a little more.
- barettes/facinators... well, they're on these, but a little smaller. They have feathers (with diamantes) and black flowers (little roses and lilly-like flowers) and are black ribbon wrapped. (this is where you need pictures, really.) They'd be about $8.50 each.
- flower pins. These I have a picture for. Here, on DeviantArt May have little black roses on, or be slightly different. Around $1.75 each, or maybe single flowered ones for ~$0.75. Made more for going with a bigger flower barette/clip than on their own. And yes, I know the wire's built up. You wouldn't see the flowers if they're next to a larger barrette if they weren't. Decided not to make/sell these after feedback.

Since I'm in the UK, prices may be ok, but the postage may be high for global customers (~$8 ). UK postage would be up to £4 (but probably less, since these are smaller items... ^^; )

So... yeah. I'll get images up when I can. Feedback would be appreciated a lot..;
Would you buy them? Are the prices ok, or are they a little expensive? Do you think they'd sell? Should I take how long it took to make them into account, or leave prices as is?
Also, if you think they would sell... any tips on display?

Well, I wouldn't buy any of it. Mostly because I can either make it or don't need it. I don't wear frippy things in my hair.

Since you only posted the flower pins, that's what I'll comment on specifically. They look ugly and not well made. There's so much wire on the pin, it's sloppy. And those bobby pins are cheapo and the little rubber tips often come off. I wouldn't pay more than a couple dollars for a pack of 100. Try finding hairclips that are specifically meant to be decorated in some way.

Someone tell the story,
Someone sing the song.
Every now and then the country
Goes a little wrong.

Every now and then a madman's
Bound to come along.
Doesn't stop the story-
Story's pretty strong.

Doesn't change the song.
Your prices seem ridiculously reasonable. Postage wouldn't be too bad if you used flat rate envelopes that aren't marked for priority mail. Most of these things are small enough, that would work. And offer some kind of package deals to fit as much stuff into the bag/box as possible to take advantage of the price.

I think the roses are pretty, but I have to agree about the wire. You have to be really careful when you are putting these things together. Looking for actual craft hair supplies is a good idea. Or I might suggest experimenting with different craft glues to find one that works with your materials.

Ok, thanks for the feedback! =)
I've decided not to sell them, afterall. There doesn't seem to be anywhere around that sells any clips that are meant to be decorated. (I can't buy online at the moment.) So... yeah. Better not to make them.
Thanks again for the feedback!

Yeah, when I was quoting the price for postage, I was thinking of the cans. I think the postage for the smaller things would be around $5 or $6 at most. And package deals would be a good idea, thanks.
I've decided not to sell the pins afterall... there aren't any shops that sell craft hair supplies locally (and I can't buy online at the moment).
Thanks again for the feedback!

I really like the combs. How are those attached?

I would buy the combs/barrettes! They look nice. I don't really have much interest in the others, however.

The flowers and feathers are attached by wrapping ribbon around them and the comb. (No glue!)
Thanks for the feedback! It's helping me a lot. =D

I figured that doing it that way would be more durable than using glue; glue tends to be pretty unreliable in my hands. Also, it's smoother putting it in your hair. =D

Update: Can't sell on Etsy - for moral reasons, I am against credit cards. ^^;
Instead, I'll be selling on ArtFire. =)
