manipulative - Theo, with his piercing gaze and charismatic appearance, is every bit the proper heir to a crime empire that his father brought him up to be. From an early age, he developed a taste for charming the pants off of people... while secretly gathering all the information they never wanted him to know. This way he can ensure that he has a back-up plan in case making friends doesn't end well.

disciplined - Before his father trusted him to be able to help out with "diplomacy" (deal-making in back rooms with crime lords from other cities as representative of the Washingtons) Theo had to first train himself to the peak of physical perfection to help out with "law enforcement" (punching people into place when they didn't make good on their promises). Though his father was a tough man, Theo studied his father's moves long and hard so that he could one day be even better.

enterprising - One of the most important skills of any successful crime lord is that you must seize opportunities when they are ripe. Self-doubt will only end up tearing you apart because once the henchmen see their ringleader falter, they will come in for the kill. Theo is a skilled businessman; after proving himself as a valuable asset in the field and not someone to be sheltered, he ended up doing a lot of negotiation work and deal-making with some of the corrupt officials in the city.

Rafael Washington, resident Mathis crime lord, died recently of a heart attack. His work and empire were quite suddenly left to his only son, Theo, to manage. It came as quite a shock to the underworld that Rafael had died, and as a result, chaos threatened to burst out within the carefully managed rings that he had controlled for just over 40 years.

These last 3 months, Theo has barely been able to keep everyone together for the most part - partially due to their loyalty to the Washington family name, and partially because they are still the most powerful, influential crime family in Mathis. A few people have been speculating that Theo is too reckless and will never live up to Rafael's name, which has been influencing his behavior. Using brute force to maintain control was never a favorite of Rafael's, but Theo is having trouble distinguishing between his father's teachings and his own preferred methods. He aims to establish himself as not just "Rafael's son" but "Theo," his own entity and legacy in the Mathis underworld.

The police recently have also been dumping a lot of (now useless) files on Rafael now that he's dead and there's no point in trying to formulate a case for his arrest. Now their targets are on the young rising Theo, just waiting for him to slip up and make a mistake so that they can take him down.

I was thinking that he probably knew Espen at an early age after meeting while they were both in their teens. Those developmental years led both of them to take drastically different paths; Theo is now the wealthy heir to the Washingtons' crime ring and Espen is more like a personal family henchman than anything else. But still, I think he still would depend on Espen very much for special, hush-hush missions that no one else can know about. If Espen ever betrayed Theo... very bad things would be in store for both of them. They know a few too many dirty secrets of each other's that if that trust were ever betrayed I think Theo would become incredibly mistrusting and vengeful.

If anyone ever wants to take the young heiress role, I think Theo would be all over that. If she's regularly going to the seedy bar notorious for gangsters and criminals' patronage, he'd find out rather quickly and attempt to win her over. It never hurts to have rich people on your side. She'd probably just be kind of initially curious, attracted to the mystery and security of being friends with Theo, but he wouldn't let her know much about him at all because he thinks she's too clueless. (Might lead to some tension; deeper relationship vs. mistrust)
