✩✩ALFRED Ⓕ. JONES✩✩

✯✯✯ ╯☆☆☆☆☆╰ ✯✯✯
Wind blew through the trees, making the leaves rustle and the sunlight streaming through the canopy shift. It was a magical affect, soothing and relaxing. It was no wonder this was his favorite place to nap, to with his boy, his master, his friend. What was his name again? A something… Alfred? No, that wasn’t the boy’s name, it was his name. He was Alfred, Master gave him that name… But where was Master and why did the forest have such a pungent smell? Of hot son basking asphalt, burning gasoline, rotting trash, heavy smoke, the greasy yet succulent scent of cooking hamburgers… The soft grass gave way to rough concrete. Honking horns and chattering people replaced the soft wind and rustling leaves.
Groggily, Alfred opened his eyes, sighing to himself as muggy light filled his vision. It had been years since he last dreamed of those days, that forest, his boy… His, whatever his name was. With a yawn, the golden haired American stretched his limbs out, pressing into the ground so he didn’t hit the dumpster bottom above. Low to the ground, Alfred crawled out from beneath his makeshift home. He stretched again then sat to scratch his ear. What to do today?
“Oh! Alfred! There you are! I was wondering where you were this morning. Did you sleep in? Wish I could… I was afraid you had found a new spot and moved on…”
In the doorway of the McDonald’s that the alley belonged to stood a small, but sturdy brunette. In his arms he held a trash can for the dumpster and on his face was a bright smile. Toris was very kind to Alfred. He had found him starving and dehydrated on the streets and brought him to this alley, Toris’ apartment complex did not approve of big animals like Alfred, to nurse him back to health on the heavenly garbage from McDonald’s. It had almost been a year since then, so they had become very close friends.
Alfred laughed and trotted up to Toris, his tail wagging at a thousand miles per minute. As if he’d leave his buddy! Sure, he had his doggy friends and a few human friends that lived on the streets too, but no one was as great as Toris was. Toris was like a superhero!
Oblivious to the high regard Alfred held for him, Toris laughed and set the trashcan down to squat next to the golden retriever and scratch behind his ear. Alfred whined contently and leaned into the moving fingers, he was especially itchy lately. “You’ve been really itchy these past few days Alfred…”
Laughter translated as yips from the dog as he nodded. Just more proof that Toris was a superhero! As if to prove the itchy point, Alfred flopped onto his back and looked up at Toris with a begging look.
“Oh all right,” Toris said with a sigh as he knelt next to Alfred and vigorously ran his fingers over him. After a few minutes, he bent down to stare though Alfred’s fur. “Hm, thought so. You have fleas again. I’m sorry bud, I forgot to get more repellent for you. I’ll bring you home tonight to give you a bath, okay?”
A bath?! Alfred jumped up to lick Toris’ cheek lovingly. He loved baths! But, before he could thoroughly cover the brunet with slobber, a shout came from inside for Toris. With a laugh and pat to Alfred’s head, Toris dumped the trash he had brought out. “See you tonight Alfred,” he said as he placed a McMuffin that had dropped on the ground earlier next to the dog’s feet then went inside.
The poor McMuffin didn’t stand a chance against Alfred’s ravenous stomach and was gone within second. Feeling content, the golden retriever made his way out of the alley to go to the park, maybe there would be some nice kids that would like to share their snacks with him.
