So everyone is up to speed...
T3h Monk3y and I have been discussing contests. One that we both like is a scavenger hunt, or in this case "treasure" hunt, that can be seasonal, or just for fun occasionally.
The 2 goals I have for of every contest are 1) to get posts at port o call to keep the thread alive, and 2) to guarantee that all the tanks get seen.
The problem with most contests (IMO) is that they are on page one, and so your contestants do not even look at your tanks, they just start bumping or rolling dice. I do not want that to happen here. I want it to be fun, interactive, and profitable for everyone.
So, I am "hiding" contests in notices for "bounties" in posts from "the capt'n". That is so you will have to FIND the contests. But claiming them REQUIRES at least one post in Port O' Call (bumping the thread).
Back to the "Treasure Hunt"...
We have been discussing hiding a clickable treasure chest (General contest), or Easter egg (Easter) or candy (Halloween), Christmas present (Duh!) or something in posts around the threads. You have to "open" the chest, egg, candy, or present to find what is inside. It will tell you which # item you have found. You then have to post (At Port O' Call) that you found an item, but not what it was or where you found it (gets bumps), you PM that information to me so no one cheats off your posts. (Ideally they will be keeping a list, and not sending ALL the item PMs to me separately...OMG!) Your posts have to match the items you found, so that they post (bump) each time. Anyway whoever finds the most items wins, and there could be a second or third place too.

What we need is more ideas bounced back and forth on this on how this or other contests can work. Thanks for letting me pick your brains.

Great idea. I would. I will donate a Starfish of any color. Will have to look in my inventory for what else I can part with. I snatch up fish on the cheap, need replacements ready considering all my pure tanks will be dieing at once sweatdrop Could you use aquarium decor for prizes?

Yes! We can give out anything actually. Aquarium related or not. Even sealed envelopes at the first of the month, whatever. Just so that it entices people to play our threads.
