Sukey was not happy to say the least, and her face clearly showed it. She hadn't been okay since being told last friday that her pen-pal wouldn't be anonymous anymore.

After her teacher revealed the "forgotten" minor detail, half the class went into uproars - displaying their anger and betrayal quite boldy. It was an array she had never expected to see. It wasn't the class who surprised her though. She expected that sort of behaviour if it ever came down to it, she just didn't know for what circumstance. Anyways, back to her point. Sukey never expected to see Cameron with their fist clenched and wild-eyed, as if murder seemed like a valid option in her mind. It was almost amusing to Sukey thinking back now. Cameron was so quiet and gentle with everyone and everything, and to see such person so heated was funny.

But here we are - monday afternoon, third period. It's just after lunch. Sukey slammed her locker shut, and as she weaved her way through the masses of people, she chewed on the inside of her cheek nervously. She had split her guts in those letters. Her pen-pal knew the ins and outs of her because she thought letting her guard down for a second would be okay if they didn't know who was inside the suit of armor. She had been wrapped in anonymity - reveled in it because it was so freeing. Now it's being thrown back in her face. Her mind ventured into multiple situations. She went back and forth between who was on the other side of the letter and how they would react. Usually her mind made every outcome end negatively. This weekend - trying to cope with the idea of being unmasked as bottled-up ******** - she added a few lines to her upper thigh.

Three months clean gone down the drain because she was scared.

Naturally though, she kept that to herself.

Sukey walked into class, taking her usual seat just behind Cameron - who was naturally already there, snapping a rubber-band against their wrist because that was something their therapist told them to do when they felt an urges.

I should really try that some time, Sukey thought before pulling at Cameron's braid and smiling to see if it would help shake off any nerves.

That morning, Cameron had wrapped them self up in their blanket like burrito and didn't dare to move. It took their mom, their dad, and then finally their sister to drag them out. Now - while their mother had taken a gentler approach, and their father had gone for the slightly annoyed approach - Sukey had literally dragged Cameron out of bed, pulling by the feet and nearly banging their head against the edge of the bed frame. It was an adventure to say the least. An even greater adventure when Cameron refused to get dressed.

One yelling match and pile of clothing later, Cameron was ready. At least physically.

Throughout the day, Cameron had just been dragging them self through their classes. They hadn't even eaten lunch. They skipped and sat patiently outside their third period class, waiting for the door to open. And when it did, Cameron was happy that the class before was taught by a different teacher. With a quiet thank you, Cameron had taken their usual seat and began to impulsively snap that rubber-band against their wrist. Soon the usually white skin had turned a deep shade of red.

Cameron was intently focused on the sound of snapping that they hadn't even noticed the bell ring and the sound of footsteps as the rest of the class walked in and took their seats.

Cameron only turned around when they felt their hair being pulled. They gave a soft smile to Sukey, appreciating her way of trying to calm Cameron down.

The hand on their shoulder made Cameron jump a bit, but they understood what their classmate, Ana was trying to do. They were in the same kind of boat.

"Thanks," Cameron said quietly, offering a small smile.

And at the sound of Jeremy's voice, Cameron shifted their attention and gave another smile. At least everyone was trying, but there was still that little voice in the back of Cameron's head, saying that something was off.

"I wish I could believe that," Cameron laughed, but they did feel their nerves diffusing a little bit.

The things that were admitted in those letters. All the things Cameron had said to the person talking with them in those letters. Never once had Cameron corrected the gender pronouns used because it might give away who they were, but everything else was told in those letters. All the feelings of pent up inferiority and lack of trust and growing up, being told who Cameron should be, absolutely everything was written down.
