It was given at birth...
Kiozaki Toshihiro

They call me ↔ " Almost everyone calls me Hiro, with all assortment of honorifics tacked on the end (most commonly Hiro-san from underclassmen, and Hiro-kun from teammates and classmates). Don't be shy to do just that! I guess if you don't know me, Kiozaki or Kiozaki-san is alright, but I've got a large family, so if you meet any of my brothers and sisters it might get confusing. If you really want to get formal, Toshihiro-san will do. "

I blow out the candles on ↔ " August 13th, which makes me a Leo, I believe. "

I guess I'm still alive ↔ " Eighteen well lived years! "

It runs through my veins ↔ " O+. The universal type. "

I'm in the ↔ " Finally, my senior year! That makes me in Grade Twelve. "

Loveable? ↔ " If you really want to get personal, I swing both ways, which makes me bisexual, I guess. "

Well, It's the Angel Side of Me
Loyal
Dedicated and devoted to people, things and activities. Will not betray or cheat.
Friendly
Gets along well with others. Easily makes friends. Comfortable to be around.
Protective
Protects those he cares for. Defends others. A 'knight in shining armor' complex.
Just
Has a good set of morals. Believes in justice. Believes in light instead of darkness.
Optimistic
Able to make light of tough situations. Often smiling and cheerful. Usually happy or in a positive mood.
Affectionate
Expresses feelings easily. Loves contact. Shows friendship and love with both words and physical action.
Selfless
Puts others before himself. Does everything in his power to help someone, even if he doesn't know them.
Honest
Does not lie. Has few secrets. Open about almost everything.
Level Headed
Does not overreact. Usually able to control his rage. Does not raise his voice.
Social
Popular. Can talk to anyone. Well known. Mingles with all kinds of people. Easily finds conversation.

The Devil?
Clings To The Past
Does not give up on things long since gone; holds on to things even beyond when they should be important. Has a hard time thinking about the future or where he will be.
Grudges
Rarely grants forgiveness. Holds grudges easily.
Naive
Misses things, even when in plain sight. Oblivious to the obvious. Especially in love; seems incapable of seeing the romantic feelings others have for him.
Low Self Worth
Takes little consideration for himself. Not low self confidence, but more that he doesn't think about his own well being when taking action.
Heart Instead Of Head
Low academic intelligence. Thinks with his feelings instead of common sense. Often acts before he thinks.
Ignores Personal Space
Gets close to people even when told no. Stays even when unwanted. Gets too close for comfort.
Defensive
Protects who he cares for, even when unwanted. Not jealous in any way, but a bit over-protective, more with danger than with other people.
Lack Of Limits
Does not stop. Pushes too far. Goes past what is healthy for him.
Clingy
Over-affectionate. Needy. Craves attention from those he likes.
Nosy
Gets involved in things that don't involve him. Butts into matters.

If you had to know
" Growing up as a Kiozaki, life has been far from normal. I was born and raised with the family, cursed as the 'Dog'; doomed to transform into an animal any time I became too anxious or upset. Or, of course, the fated hug of a girl - I guess that was why I had a lot of male friends as a kid. Despite the curse, I surrounded myself with outside friends. I spent most of my time out of the house and played a lot of sports. Even then, I was popular. I used to get away from girls because of 'cooties'; oh, what a great word, what a great excuse. Those were truly happy days. It felt like there was nothing but my family and friends, surrounded by constant joy...

I don't quite remember exactly how old I was upon the day that marked my life. Seven? Eight? Well, I was young. But I remember the events clearly -- stumbling into a girl, transforming, dashing into the bushes so I wouldn't get caught... it was all very desperate. But the bushes had been on the side of a ledge, the ledge leading off into the river, and I crashed into the water with an echoing splash! As all good dogs, I could swim mighty fine, and I came to the surface... to see him. A boy, paddling pathetically against the current, his strength slowly failing him. He was spitting water and trying to shout for help, but doing a very poor job. The noble part of me dashed to his aid and dragged him out of the water. I pulled him to shore, and after minutes of spluttering and panting, dog and boy sprawled on the edge of the river, in the grass, head up to the sky, he turned to me. He was smiling the brightest smile I'd ever seen... I'd never seen such joy, such appreciation, such love from anyone. We played the whole day, I as a dog and he as a boy. I barked and frolicked and he chased me and laughed. We played fetch, we got into trouble, we dug in the dirt... I came back a mess that day. But I had made a friend. A best friend. That's what he called me.

The next day, I left the house again, and went down to the river as a human, not a dog. To my luck, there he was! Proud and excited to spend the day with my friend, I scampered down the river bank to meet him.. only to get a glare. Disgust? The truth was, my human personality contrasted hard with his. He didn't like people. He had a rough family life, apparently, and because of that he rejected human friends. I tried all day to get close to him, unable to tell him that I was really the dog from the day before... but nothing worked. He kept pushing me away as I tried to force myself into his heart. He looked so disheartened at the end of the day, as his 'dog' friend had not come... and, well, that's when it all began. Day after day, I forced encounters with girls to get a hug, so I could meet the boy as a dog so he would accept me. Day after day, we played and laughed. The odd day I'd come as a human, trying to befriend him, pushing so hard, but I never got any closer. He loved me as a dog and hated me as a person. It was a terrible, two faced relationship, but I could never get enough. He was my best friend. My light.

He began to show up less. He was busy a lot. And then one day he came, teary eyed and red faced. That day I had been a canine, whining and licking him and trying to get him to cheer up. He said strange things, like it was the final goodbye. That day, we walked around town. We came upon a capsule machine. Using his only coin, he played and won a simple band; a silver and black ring, made of cheap metal. But he gave it to me. With a sad, half smile, he hooked it upon my collar and patted my head. Told me that he'd come back. That he'd see me again. He promised. I barked eagerly in return, not realizing what he had meant - too caught up in his gift. I came to a decision. I was going to tell him the truth. With the ring, I could prove that I was indeed the dog, even if I came to him as a human. I came to the riverbed the next day, human form, ring in hand...

And he never showed.

Day after day, he never showed.

I had seen his house once or twice. When I went there after the days that he stopped showing, it was empty. He had left. Moved away. Gone somewhere. Impossible to find. Impossible to reach. My best friend, the one person I put so much devotion into... gone. I waited at the riverbed, every day. The same time, every day. Actually... I still do it now. He promised me he'd return. Come back to me. Even after ten years have passed, I still go there, every day. I wait for him. He promised me...

Hmm.. I grew up pretty well, other than that. And other than the curse. In comparison to some of my other brothers and sisters, I adapted well. I was always popular and had a lot of friends. Now, in high school, I'm well known amongst everyone. I'm on several sport teams and called often to go out. No one knows the truth - being a dog, nor my promise. I just can't let it go. He promised. He promised he'd come back. And I'll wait for him. I know he'll come... "

Things close to my heart
Canines
" Dogs, wolves... I really get along with all kinds. "
Sports and Exercise
" I love being active! It's so exhilarating. I play most sports, but my favorites are by far soccer and swimming. "
Outdoors
" Even in a storm, I'd be happier outside than inside. Fresh air is nice. "
Capsule Machines
" You know those things. You put your money in, it gives you a capsule with a surprise? Candy, a toy, it doesn't matter -- I love them! "
Biscuits and Cookies
" Some of the family make fun of me and say it's my animal instincts getting as close as I can to dog treats... "
Superhero and Action Movies
" I know, the cheesiest thing a guy could ever like, right? I'm a sucker for anything where a single man saves the day. I want to be just like them! "

Things close to the fire
Cats
" It's not that I don't like them, but... see, I'm allergic. Yeah, I know, my brother... "
School Work; Paperwork
" I'm an action kind of guy, not so much a thinker. I'm not dumb, but I'm just barely getting passing grades. It's really boring... "
Social Gatherings
" Even though I'm popular, I don't go to many parties because I don't like them much. The loud noise tends to make me feel nauseous. "
Video Games
" I've got decent hand-eye coordination, so I'm not bad at them, but... wouldn't you rather be doing the real thing? Or being outside? "
Bullies
" I've never really had that kind of problem, but it makes me so angry that someone would do something like that to someone else! "
Heat
" Heat slows people down and drains my energy. And it feels terrible. I'd rather spend my time as a dog, so I can pant my troubles away... Or at the beach... "

Things that are better not mentioned
Being Useless; Weakness
" I need to be strong. I hate being held back or being able to do nothing when it matters. "
Being Restrained; Locked Up; Trapped
" Being tied up, bound, locked in a room with no way out, caught in something... terrifies me. I don't like my movement or actions being restricted. "

The Most Precious Thing In the World ↔ "The simple, silver and black ring that I wear on my left hand, right finger. It never leaves me, and it's the reminder of a promise I made a long time ago. ... And, of course, my family, friends, and social life are very dear to me! "

Must be dreaming... ↔ " I want to protect them. Ah, no, that's not particularly what I mean... I don't want someone completely helpless. But I want to be the hero. The prince. It's a little vain, but I want to be the knight in shinning armor. Maybe that means I want someone who's in trouble, or troubled. Sometimes I think that someone with a lot of negative personality traits would be nice - someone sad, someone angry, someone rough around the edges... Maybe that's just be being vain again, but I'd love to show them the world isn't such a bad place. I want someone I can spoil. Treat like royalty. Love, hold and cherish. I'm the overly affectionate type, and I like going out, so they better be prepared for that. "

My heart races ↔ " Apparently I've got some fans, but my heart hasn't returned any feelings. "

When I look in the mirror, this is what I see
Standing at a proud five-foot eleven, Hiro is a well toned, lean young man. He is built well from all the sports he participates in, though is by no means extremely muscular; he doesn't weight lift or body build, he's just really active! His skin tone is a soft sandy peach, often taking on a tan in the summer from being outside so much. His eyes are a gray hazel brown; though it is a dull, neutral mixed colour, his seem to sparkle with a vibrant bright light that reflects out in his personality. They are always large and wide, his expression friendly and welcoming. His hair is just the slightest bit longer than what would be considered 'short'; a light dirty blonde, it is cut choppily and is often left spiked and somewhat messy. The spikes fall out and curl just the slightest, ending just past the base of his neck when wet and flattened. He rarely does his hair, save for brushing it quickly in the morning, as his activity often messes it up in the end and he doesn't see much of a point. His shoulders are broad, his legs long; he has the figure of a handsome young man who is on the verge of adulthood. If anyone were to describe it, it wouldn't be pretty boy or tough guy; his warmhearted nature blends with his masculinity to bring about the image of the popular, 'best friend' type.

Hiro's style is very casual and comfortable. Often sporting warm or primary colours, he loves anything that gives him the freedom to move. He hates layers and doesn't like to be too hot. Even in the winter he only wears a thin jacket. T-shirts, hoodies, and breezy button-up casual shirts usually adorn his top, accompanied with straight, clean cut pants. He loves green, blue, yellow and brown, along with a splash of neutrals; white, gray and black. He never wears any jewelery or accessories, save for a single, think-banded ring done in a simple checkered pattern of silver and black. He doesn't like things jingling on him, or loose ties, as they get in the way when moving about. He's not very comfortable dressed up, and when he is it's almost always short sleeved, and only partially buttoned up. Even the school uniform he doesn't do up all the way; the tie is just the slightest bit loose and the top buttons are undone. It's not that he's a trouble maker, but it's just so uncomfortable! He can also be found in his school sport uniforms, but mostly when he's playing for the teams. He doesn't wear them out.

When in his animal form, Hiro takes on that of a young golden retriever. Not quite standing at full adult height, he's still got a bit of a baby face. His fur is long, a bit scruffier than the average retriever, and those same hazel-gray eyes reflect who he truly is. He wears a green collar, and though it has no identification tag the ring that he always keeps on him is looped through instead. His underbelly fur is a bit lighter in colour than his top coat, and his nose is a chocolate brown. He stands about two and a half feet from the top of his head to his toes.

It's a curse ↔ " I bark at the moon; loyal and active, looks like I'm the Dog. "

It's a mirror reflecting meSuch a handsome human, and a remarkable golden retriever.

Colors Of The WindSeagreen for my actions. "Chocolate for my voice."

_____See Me As I Am »»
              The unfortunate feline.
              _____My Physical Beauty »»
Tael is just a little bit shorter than most boys his age, standing at 5'4''. He's not particularly petite, but average is a bit much to really say about him. As a feline, his body takes on the sleek form of the cat; strong yet slim legs, average body mass, soft skin, and long, well groomed claws on both his hands and feet (though there's no retracting like your average cat, so he's got to be careful). His skin is a light sandy cream, paler than most, in imitation of the Himalayan coat. His eyes are a dark ocean blue, matching the hue of the world around him; his pupils are slit more so than the average person, a half-way point between feline and human. They're naturally large and curious, but his personality draws them to be a bit smaller; finer, to study things a bit more exactly. His entire body moves like that of a cat, with careful concise steps and perfected balance. His hair - cut medium length and somewhat scruffy - is a silky tan brown, a bit choppy, ending in several different lengths, like misplaced layers. This is the only hair on his body that takes on this colour; the rest of his body hair matches his fur colour, a light snow gray. The light gray makes it hardly noticeable against his skin, giving off the impression that he merely has extremely soft skin.

As a Spirit-Bound, Tael has many traits of the feline that blessed him. First were the claws mentioned, and second is the longer fur and softer skin. Other than his body shape and way of moving, Tael is also blessed with the ears and tail of his animal. He has no human ears - the sides of his head are completely flat. Upon the top, two furry, triangle-shaped ears protrude out through his hair, chocolate brown with white tips. It is the reverse of what they should be; traditionally, Himalayans are chocolate-tipped white cats. This is shown in his tail; mostly silver-white, a more obvious shade than his body hair, but as one gets closer to the end it quickly fades into chocolate tip; proof of the pure-blooded cat within him. A strange fact about him; he often paints his nails. It's a girly trait, and nail polish is getting increasingly hard to find (he has to have it specially made, since there are few women who are actually there to use it) but he prefers it, even if it's a simple clear coating. He hates broken nails, and was a rather curious child, getting into a lot of things which resulted in a lot of broken claws. Nail polish gives it the extra bit of strength to give himself the confidence that he can use his claws without worry.

Tael prefers free-flowing clothing to anything tight. He doesn't like shirts that need to be buttoned up to the collar, hates full suits, and can't stand belts. Robes, yukata-styled tops and free-tied shirts with ribbon and string tend to be his favorites. His pants are always low sitting, just below the waist, to make room for the tail that comes from his tailbone; high-rise pants end up getting pulled down unconsciously when worn by the start point of his tail rubbing against them. He likes teals and greens, browns, blacks, and blues for colours; earthy colours. He doesn't like bright shades. When working, sometimes his hair is pulled back into the smallest ponytail set about mid-skull, tied by a basic ribbon. He likes open-toed footwear to leave room for his claws; sandals, flip-flops, and even barefoot, and gloves are a definite no-no. In a world of only the rich and royal, even his airy clothing is all made up of vibrant-colours, often embroidered by flower and bird patterns in black, silver or gold. He only wears jewelery at the request of his mother, and it is only for fancy dinners or meetings with other families, as a way of showing off. He cares not for extras; he doesn't particularly like the jingling or feeling like he's wearing more than he needs to.

_____The Pieces That Make Up Me »»
Tael's personality is a mix of both positive and negative; while he has good traits, they do not go unmatched with his bad. If one were to get a first impression of him, he would probably come off as a few things; a gentle kind of friendly, somewhat paranoid, and pessimistic in matters that involve himself. Tael likes things to stay the way they are; he doesn't like change, he doesn't like excitement, he doesn't like adventure. He is a curious boy, yes, and enjoys learning new things, but learning something and carrying out that something are two completely different things. He is a strange boy to understand sometimes, but his heart is certainly where it matters, and he can come through when he really needs to.

Tael loves what he has. His family, his friends, his possessions, his life. Even if it is caged in this small, blue world, he is content with that place, and as long as he is happy that is what matters. He doesn't think too far into the future; he enjoys the moment as it is, and doesn't particularly take action to secure a better life later on. It is even more likely that he will take action to keep what he has the same than he would to try and better himself. Tael is also a very friendly boy. He knows when to be soft and is gentle around emotions. Though he is untrusting of strangers, if you leave a good first impression it's easy to get him to warm up. He spends a large bit of his time focusing on how he can keep himself good in front of those important, to ensure that he doesn't make a mistake or upset someone. Tael can also be very compassionate; he does not mind giving a helping hand, and is willing to be the listening ear to someone in need. He is dedicated and devoted to those already important to him. He is also stubbornly protective when they are in danger. He is not jealous, does not seem to get jealous or possessive in any way, but is not afraid to speak up if he feels they are threatened.

This may be the extent of his positives, however. His gentle, kind and friendly side rarely shows besides to people he really cares for, or people he only sees for but a second.

Tael is paranoid. Beyond paranoid. He doesn't like change, and he doesn't like strangers invading his space - and he's pretty sure everybody has some sort of negative agenda, save for those he's close with. It's probably better to only know Tael for a few moments than for a few minutes, as it seems the longer spent with him the more he suspects you. New isn't something he's used to or wants to get used to. Because he has lived in this lull of his life for so long, he doesn't want to open up to any kind of new life; which includes the tournament. Especially the tournament. Tael is also pessimistic, and has a low self worth. It isn't that he's depressed and cries and whines about how pathetic he is, but more that he doesn't believe he is destined for greatness. He believes that he can do very little, actually. He hates to be the center of attention, and he hates to be depended on. This probably stems from his greatest fear - being a disappointment. Because Tael simply does not believe 'he can', he thinks that anything relying on him is destined to fail, and he doesn't want to be there to see it. He'd rather turn tail and run than see the events unfold in front of him. The faces of those he cared about, even though he tried so hard, looking down on him with such distaste; it's enough to drive him crazy. And so he tries at very little, but puts as much effort as he can into what he does, no matter how small it is.

He is stubborn. Ridiculously to the point that if there's something he doesn't like, he'll downright refuse. He is also prone to panic. Not just his own actions, but the actions of others make him worry to no end. His paranoia brings on a whole new level of being a worry-wart, often to the point that he'll scream after his comrades to try and stop them, even though it'll be useless. And he'll be forced to chase after and try, and once he actually tries, he realizes that he has to give it his all - and then that stubbornness kicks in. Truthfully, once Tael starts a single task (not an ultimate, large goal, but something small, or something of the moment) he has a solid, unwavering determination to finish it. Even if finishing it to him is to make for an opening and escape as quickly as he can, he will do so with an iron will. Most of the time when given a task and dragged into it, no longer able to back out, his strength of mind forbids him from putting anything less than a hundred and ten percent into it; his stubbornness can turn into a positive trait. This is the shining light that might make him a candidate for the next Chief, along with his compassion and his lack of any ulterior or negative motives. He is capable of remarkable feats, if someone else can force him into the situation to do so! It is quite possible that maybe he is only capable of becoming Chief if he has someone at his side, then, someone that would push him to become the best...

On a small note, Tael takes on a few feline features in his personality and day to day life. He is a very clean person and loves grooming himself and being groomed by others - as long as he knows them! Heck, if you're a friend, he'll more than happily groom you, too. He doesn't quite purr, but the human equivalent of purring - that light, vibrating hum at the back of one's throat when one is pleased - is a common noise for him when he is in bliss. He also has the agility and movements of a cat, and the curiosity to add to it.

_____How I've Come To Be »»
Born and raised in Shinou, Tael has never seen the outside world, nor does he really want to. His parents were decendants of great dukes of the continent of Arcanium, watching over their own few towns; that was how the family line was chosen to enter Shinou. His grandparents were close to the original king that founded the closed city, and so the Tohimi line was destined to carry onwards. His mother and father were very close, engrossed in their love and their newborn child. Tael was showered with love the moment he was born. But his parents were very protective, and because of this, Tael met only few people when he was a child, probably spouting that fear of strangers he now harbors. There was one boy - a good boy - that he met when he was young; the son of a friend of the family. Tael and he became the best of friends, and they grew up together. He was Tael's closest and one of his few friends.

At the age of five was the only time that Tael really met with the Chief, who had kept a small eye on him since. It was a short, brief meeting - Tael had been playing hide and seek, and had lost his friend on the woods. He had scampered through, only to come across a strange older man - their leader, their mayor, his mother had told him before. He was nervous and shy, but the Chief showed a warmth he did not expect, and Tael drew to that. The Chief engaged in light conversation with him, and the light that shone from the boy through conversation intruiged him. He asked moral questions that adults would have to think about, and little Tael answered so simply and plainly. It was a true show of a child's purity, untainted by age... but that purity interested him. Tael does not remember this meeting now, but those answers and that small exchange drew the Chief to him. The Chief watched him from that day on, and realized the boy's underlying will and determination, and the compassion that he held behind his shyness and his retreat from strangers. He never came out of the shadows, nor really spoke to him after that, but that silent watching may have set little Tael into his destiny...

When he was young - seven or eight - his father used to tell him strange stories. About the outside world and it's beauties. His mother and father had now long since gone over the age of child bearing, and so Tael was an only son. His father wanted Tael to see the glory of the outside world, and Tael did, too; and so, his father left, out past the barrier, past the forest. He was never seen or heard from again. Tael had gone that day, too; but he could not gather the courage to leave the safety of Shinou. He sat on the edge of the barrier, watching his father force his way through with magic, watching that hand extend out to him, asking him to come... but he couldn't. His father left, and he was trapped on the other side. And when his father never came, Tael became afraid of that world. He grew up with only his mother, his best friend, and the collection of family friends that his mother had. It was a small, delicate life, the first year or two wrought with tragedy over the loss of his father and her husband, but they supported each other and grew. Tael is a mama's boy, and he is deathly close to her, though she is reaching an older age now.

He was reared well. High manners, he became the head of the household with his father gone. He grew close relations with several families, especially the merchant families - through helping out a little bit now and then, which developed into his first job. Tael knows the shopkeepers thoroughly and well, and most of them dote on him as if he was their own child. He was blessed. Beyond the loss of his father, his life was relatively soft, even in such a tragic world. He knew of the Chief, but did not know him personally... or so, did not remember him.

He lived his live in peace and harmony, not getting involved with anything that had to do with the outside world, still afraid for his father's disappearance. However, now his life is about to flip upside down, with the appearance of this strange man, a loyal follower, and his best friend from childhood now thrown into the mix...

              _____I've Come To Believe »»
" Ah? The Chief's health is failing? We'll need a new Chief... ehh? What? No! Not me! I know everyone wants me to fight, but really, I'm not cut out for it! Can't one of the other guys just win? Can't I just back out? I don't want to have anything to do with this! It's dangerous! It's risky! Ahh, and all these weird people are around me...! I know we need a new Chief, but does it have to be me?! "

              _____How To Protect Others »»
Tael's main weapons are his claws and teeth. As a feline, he knows how to use them - and use them well. Anything from scratching to biting to slashing. He is quick on his feet and agile with his feline blood, close-range combat is something that comes easy to him, and he feels more comfortable with his body than he does with any weapon. He has not the physical strength to punch and kick or do any form of martial arts, but imagine the way a small cat attacks an enemy; a flurry of swipes, hissing and sharp biting teeth. Despite the fact that he is very skilled with this, claws do not compare to that of a sword. Therefore, he carries a short swords, slightly longer than average, in case of emergency. He knows decent skills, but tends to block more than slash with it; it is merely if he gets confronted with another full weapon where his claws and teeth will not fare. But being thrown into the tournament, he may need to use his sword more than he ever has...
_____From Deep Within The Soul »»
Tael's first ability is to see things that are not really there. He can sense the energy around the world. People who are praying or meditating, someone who is getting ready for a spell, ghosts or hidden doors and passages, even just raw magic in the air.. he sees it as swirls of colour. It's a trait that he does not believe to be special; he things anyone else can see it, though it is unique to him. He can also sense the power of magic by looking at these swirls; the more vibrant and large they are, the stronger it is. He can also 'hear the voices of the forest', which tell him of impending trouble or other important matters.

A minor ability, Tael has the ability to give off light energy with his hands, so that he may never be in the dark. It's a soft, white-gold glow, and it radiates from his hands when he focuses. However, when he becomes embarassed or emotionally affected, it has been known to flicker through both his eyes and his ears. This light can also be used as a boost to others; it gives them a source of energy, if they had been tired or weakened, to temporarily use if they need just a bit more time.

His final feat is control over wind and plants, to be used as aid or in battle. This is a magic he has earned from playing in the forest as a child so much. He can sharpen the wind to shoot it like an energy blast; he can wrap vines around things or grow flowers. It is a branch of elemental magic that focuses on spirituality, and the unity of himself with the world around him. Tael is very much in tune with the magical world around him. Again, he does not consider this an amazing feat, but simple child's play.

        The Twinkle Ribbon.

A long, long time ago, before any of us were even conceived, the world was in peril. Criminals ran rampant, people did ill-mannered things, morals were thrown away; and to top it all off, the magic of the world was dying. Yes, this world, though no one knew it, ran off of magic; the center core that kept everything in place. But it was failing, with nothing to uphold it. The world was falling into a steady decline, those pure of heart that were left screaming for salvation. That was when she appeared. It is unknown as to when she first came, or where she gained her powers, but a young girl carried the strength of the world upon her shoulders. She transformed into an identity so that no one would know who she really was; she was what you could call the first magical girl, and during that time, she was the only one. Holding her scepter to the sky, tied around her neck was a magical ribbon - the Twinkle Ribbon - the center of her power. She cleaned up the world and became the pillar of light that ensured that the magic within the world would not fade. In this, she also became immortal; a figure like a god, she disappeared without a trace to protect the world silently, ensuring everything went as it should. She was the most pure heart of the land. The greatest.

Now, in our flourishing modern day, things have developed far more since that time. Technology rules our world. But also, the crime rate seems to be getting worse. People are beginning to forget their morals again. But where was the girl? Where was the Twinkle Ribbon? She was the one that could fix everything; bring everyone back to their senses, and wipe away the demoralization, free the pure of heart from tragedy!

The girl was finally upon her last days. She had upheld the world for such a long time, her inner magic was exhausted. She could no longer do her duty. She was dying - she had little time left. When her body would actually fail her was unknown, and because she had to live her life in secret, doctors could not predict what was wrong with her. She could do nothing but watch the world fall away from her. That beautiful world that she protected...

She knew she could do but one thing. She had to spread her power around the world! Because she was so weak, she could only do it within her city; Tokyo and it's surrounding cities and villages. She encountered many people - teenagers and young adults - and tested their purity without them knowing. Engaging in light conversation, she touched each one of their hearts. And she granted them a power. A mixture of boys and girls, she gave them a fragment of the magic that she had left within her. This power enabled them to transform into a form similar to hers and to harbor magical powers of their own! Though her power was that of the Sun, each person had a different power; the girls seeming to take after a planet in the solar system, and the boys taking after a zodiac constellation. Each person was not told; they had to figure it out themselves. But now, her power was spread around, giving the world another chance! In her final act, as she was cast to be bedridden, her days numbered, she sent each one a letter using her powers - an invitation for a competition. Even those that had not awakened yet, but were still touched, received the letter. It was the world's final chance...

        " Dear gifted,

I can not tell you who I am, nor shall you meet me, unless you are the victor.

The world is in your hands.

        Many people have been granted a power the same as yours. The center stage is Tokyo. You have but two duties;

        1) Protect the people from criminals and tragedy. Save your world.

        2) Prove yourself worthy.

All of you are competing. I shall be the ultimate decider of the victor.

And the victor shall be granted the Twinkle Ribbon; the greatest power of all. You shall become the pillar of light in this world, and it will be your sole duty to uphold this world, and shape it to your will... for, hopefully, the sake of good.

May the stars bless you upon your journey. "

There was no name left. No address. The idea was simple; all of those with powers would be protecting Tokyo, but they would also be competing against each other. Fighting to prove who was the best - who would be the ultimate victor. Whoever one became the pillar of light and obtained the Twinkle Ribbon. One could use it for good - or for evil. If one didn't like something about the world, they could change it. Godship, almost. Immortality. It was certainly desirable; but only one would get it. Whoever could prove themself, or whoever was the last standing...

      ______ My heart's racing ::
" Reporters don't need to crush in order to chase after someone! However, I take high interest in anyone who's surrounded in rumors or popularity. "

      ______ The way I am ::
It is difficult to explain Hitogara Shikuro in a simple few paragraphs, as he is a rather complex boy, made up of levels of personality. The deeper one goes, the more apparent the darkness is. The easiest way to word it; Shikuro is what many would call a schizophrenic. A body that harbors more than one personality. Shiro and Kuro, the black and the white; the two twins of the Gemini. It was ironic that Hitogara-san was the one blessed with the Gemini, as his duality truly reflects the presence of the two twins; maybe it was not irony, but the cold hand of fate...

Hitogara Shiro is the most commonly awake, known, and present personality. Shiro is also the original personality; the one born into the body, the one that developed through birth. Shiro is an eccentric man on his own. Often energetic and full of spunk, he is well known as a reporter; he is the high school's famed photographer, somewhat of a paparazzi who stalks around rumors and popular people. He is straight forward and finds talking very easy. When caught up in conversation, he can come up with endless topics, and could chat for hours. He is an information gatherer and collector; and for that, he is just as good a listener as he is a conversationalist. He can remember a thousand things at once and seems to have endless room for useless facts. It's not so much academic knowledge - sure, he knows his math and such pretty well, and he's not a bad student - but history, rumors, stories, mythology, religion, famous people and current events... those are his specialties. He is a highly curious boy who can't seem to satisfy his need for knowledge, and will go to extreme lengths to find something out. No rumor, fact or statement can go unsolved in his mind. He's his own little detective. If there's something of interest to you, going to Shiro is a simple answer; he'll jump with joy to find what you need. It's just the way he is; he loves learning, and loves knowing that he knows things. This also makes him very nosy. He'll butt into things that don't involve him, and he'll also pay little regard to the emotions of another when finding out or providing facts. He is a neutral party; the perfect jury. It's hard to get him to sway one way or another. Both sides are equally interesting to him.

Though he may seem to be Devil's Advocate incarnated as a human - able to stand ground on both sides, able to hold a neutral view, even when a moment requires compassion - he is by no means unkind. He believes rumors because he wants to consider every side of truth, not because he tries to be cruel. His social butterfly personality tends to attract people, and he has quite a few friends. He's the shining star of the school newspaper's team; other than the Chief Editor, he's considered the head. Above average on the popularity scale (but not quite on the level of the kings and queens of the school) most people know his name. If curiosity killed the cat, then Shiro's probably got little left to live; his life thrives on curiosity. He's a generally good boy, and beyond his paparazzi work he has a good set of morals on himself. He's willing to lend a helping hand to someone in need (even if in the end, it's only to get himself more known). His dream is to move to America and write for the New York Times. It's a bold dream, but he won't let that hold him back!

Shiro is, indeed, the Gemini; the magical boy elemented with darkness. However, believe it or not, Shiro has no idea. His powers have awoken and been used, and he received the letter (which he simply could not understand, and is on a high quest to figure out) but he still remains in the dark. What he is aware of, however, are his ever increasing black-outs. Shiro finds holes in his memory; things he does not remember, times he can not place, moments in his life completely lost. Sometimes minutes, sometimes hours... he even has awoken in completely different places from where he blacked out! There is a fear in him that believes that it may be some sort of physical condition, but he refuses to go to the hospital; he doesn't want to be diagnosed with some sort of fatal disease and find out that he's not allowed to fulfill his dream! And so, desperately, he's trying to hide the fact. If anyone found out...

Shiro is not fainting, and the only kind of sickness he has is a mental problem. When Hitogara Shiro blanks out, Hitogara Kuro awakens. He is the stronger personality, but tends to lay dormant most of the time because of Shiro's mental will, though Shiro does not realize it. Unlike Shiro, Kuro cares for himself. Kuro is a much darker person. The only distinct difference between the two, beyond facial expression, is eye colour; Shiro's eyes are a murky sea blueish green, and Kuro's eyes are crimson red.

Kuro isn't afraid to use force to get what he wants. He isn't as chatty, but is much more taunting than his other half. He is the one that is aware of the Gemini within him, and is the one participating in the game; he's aiming for the power of the Twinkle Ribbon. He has little regard for other people and is, in short, a heartless b*****d. He rarely even thinks about aligning himself with someone else. Unlike Shiro, he is aware of the duality within them; that there are two personalities and not one. He wishes to be the ultimate victor and to obtain power in order to clean up the world; rid it of the criminals and darkness that have seeped through. Not that he's pure at all, but it's somewhat of a god complex; that his darkness is warranted if he can purify the rest of the world. He doesn't want to end it, no, but that doesn't really make his intentions pure. His biggest problem is that he can not access most of the knowledge Shiro has, especially about other people, which means that Kuro only runs off of what he knows from when he is awake. He is trying to reach out to his other half, but attempts have been feeble thus far. Shiro remains completely unaware, as his knowledge remains inaccessible to Kuro...

The two sides. Kuro ever fighting for dominance, or at least unity with his other half. Shiro completely oblivious. One half shines dark light, the other attempts to walk the path of light. Shiro may live within a tragedy, but he does not realize it; and as Kuro begins to do damage, it will be Shiro that will have to pick up the pieces...

      ______ Let's turn back time ::
Shikuro was born a regular child, originally bearing only the Shiro personality. He was born in Tokyo, raised in a family with with a rich woman who worked with criminal law for a mother and a small-time journalist for a father. The two often fought, simply because it was his mother that was gathering all the money for the family and his father focusing on what he enjoyed rather than something that made him rich. He was not a perfect journalist, nor very well known, and therefore brought in minimal income. The fighting and the divided line between the two parents left Shiro to often play with himself in order to avoid the fighting, or he was dropped off with relatives so that he wouldn't have to witness it. It wasn't severe, nor extremely abusive; no, it was simply the average direction that a divorcing couple took.

Shiro was five when the two of them decided to split. They were given joint custody on their child, splitting his time by weeks; one week his mother would have him, and the other his father would. His mother, when she had him, often put him with babysitters and other family members, spending little time with her young child. His father, however, worked from home. He didn't have a lot of money, a nice house, or many gifts for dear Shiro, but he had love. A lot of love. Shiro bonded with his father greatly, learning his trade, and began taking pictures with children's cameras in an attempt to be able to help his father. His mother, resentful that Shiro would take to his father so much more than her, tried to cut down their time. She spread lies about the man in order to limit his time by the power of the courts. According to her, he beat Shiro. He screamed at him. He didn't feed him. He wouldn't pay child support. The only thing he didn't do was child support, but the custody was truly split, and he shouldn't really have had to; he too care of him well enough when it was his turn. Sadly, slowly, Shiro began to see less and less of his dad. And because of it, loneliness began to sink in.

He was alone. A lot. He had friends, but his mother wanted him home at a strict hour. If she could not be there physically, she still wanted a tight rope around her boy! His only time to see anyone became school, which he cherished. That was, until Kuro awoke. It was around then that the darker personality developed. In his early years, Kuro began as the voice that Shiro spoke with. He only talked with him when he was alone, so he never was diagnosed with the mental problem. Eventually, Kuro began to ask to do things - and as an invisible friend, how could he unless he was allowed to use Shiro's body? The two slowly grew to become one. When he was little, he knew of Kuro. They talked. He was his companion; his brother; his friend when mother was gone. As curious little children, they often snuck into mother's room, read her work, explored through her things. They found lots of information about the criminals she put away and worked with. Dark things. Terrible things. Pure little Shiro didn't understand, but Kuro knew all too well. Because these were the only times he was awake back then, and this was the only things he ended up seeing, he grew a deep hatred for criminals. He wanted to protect Shiro, and his body, in this world; to rid the world of such a despicable darkness. How how could he? He had no power.

As all children do, eventually, Shiro forgot about Kuro. But Kuro did not cease to exist; he merely became dormant in the boy's body. He grew to be a teenager and pursued his father's work with much more success. His mother pushed him to try and do something with science or math, but he simply refused. His passion was journalism and photography. He had been out, chasing a rumor, when he had met that girl - the girl with the Twinkle Ribbon, the magical girl - and she had spoken with him. She had, for the first time anyone had in years, found a chord of Kuro, and awoke the dormant personality once more... though Shiro was never aware. He was also granted his powers of Gemini then. The only time Gemini had awoken and he had transformed was the first time Kuro emerged again; and he used that power to cripple a thief. The rush felt wonderful; with this power, he could cleanse the world! That disgust for humanity twisted into a newfound dream. But Shiro still didn't know. Shiro fell unconscious every time Kuro awoke. How could he know?

      ______ I'm a little special
___Magical Boy Gemini ♦ The Power Of Darkness
___Transformation Activation Quote: " By the power of the twins of darkness, I call upon you! Awaken the shadows within me! Ad Astra, Gemini, transform! " (Ad Astra is Latin for 'to the stars'.)
After transforming into Magical Boy Gemini, Hitogara-san takes on the power of darkness. Of shadows; often thought of negatively, darkness can also simply mean an absence of light, not always evil.

Gemini's powers seem to strongly focus on shadow manipulation and control. Because of this. Gemini works best at night. It's not that he can't work during the day, but the more shadows present the better. Ultimately, he will always at the very least have his own shadow to aid him. The larger the shadow he uses and the stronger his powers are at the time are the factors in the strength of his magic. He can blanket out light (light bulbs or natural sources of light) and he can hide himself in the shadows, making himself invisible to the naked eye. Hiding in the shadows can only be used when he is not using any other powers (thus, he can not attack from the shadows, nor manipulate shadows further from there). With a strong focus, he can use Shadows as ropes or constraints, or can even send them as a black mass to attack a target. The stronger he becomes, the more uses his shadows gain.

The only power that resides in both his Gemini form and his regular human form is the ability to detect negative emotions. Despair, anger, envy, sadism; Shikuro can tell when someone is feeling like this, and how strong the feeling is. Similar to a negative empathy, Shiro has always believed it to be just his way of being able to judge someone's character, though it was really a power that he developed when he inherited Gemini.

      ___Specific Attacks + Quotes
Lux Ex Tenebris » (Latin for 'light from darkness'.) Sends an arrow of dark matter, created from shadows, towards a target of his choice. As he grows stronger, the number of arrows increase. The more arrows he uses the more power it takes.
In Retentis » (Latin for 'among things held back'.) Restrains a person using ropes of darkness, formed by shadows. Are easily broken when a person is in their normal mind set; they will trap, but with strength and attempt can be torn through, especially when magic is used. However, when trapped in a negative mind set, the ropes become stronger. Work best when the opponent is depressed, pissed off, jealous, or rageful.

let's look at the м ι я я σ я

      ______ It's a mirror reflecting me ::
Hitogara Shiro Shiro (Regular Student) Kuro (Regular Human) Magical Boy Gemini!

Shiroku is an average boy, standing at 5'6'' and weighing 140 pounds. He is not muscular and is barely toned, though he does get a decent amount of exercise chasing people for the latest scoop. His skin tone is a barely pale, sandy peach with a smooth complexion. He has large, round eyes, a little bit bigger than that of your average Asian. With each personality Hitogara-san has, his eyes change colour; a trait that seems strange if one did not know the situation. When he is Shiro, the normal and more positive personality, his eyes are murky sea bluish green, large and curious, freckled with specks of light. As Kuro, the darker personality, his eyes are a deep crimson, often thinned, glaring, or carefully calculating. He has long eyelashes and finer features, though his body is shaped masculine, leaving no doubt that he is a boy. That, and his hair is cut into a boyish mess; choppy, scruffy, and rarely brushed. Even if he did brush it, he runs around so much it would probably just become a wild mess either way! It is a deep ash black, reflecting a somewhat brownish tint in the summer sun, like that of a cat's fur. The dark hair contrasts with his light skin, and though his skin and hair tones are very neutral, his eyes reflect a colour vibrancy that attracts one to him.

For his fashion, Hitogara-san does not like plain; his shirts are often striped or painted with a fancy design or logo. He loves jackets, vests, and outer pieces to his tops, and flow and freedom are very important to him. He'd prefer a pair of shorts or khakis to pants. His school uniform is often left unbuttoned for the top two buttons, and his tie is only loosely done. Always around his neck is his small digital camera, even during class. He has a much larger, expensive one, but he only uses it for planned shots as he does not like running around with such a grand piece of technology, in fear that it might get damaged or broken. He has his left ear pierced with a single bronze stud, but beyond that he wears no jewelery. His colours are usually a mix of the neutrals - black and white - and then a splash of colour, usually green, blue, brown or orange.

When he transforms into Gemini, his hair grows to medium length and seems to straighten out a bit, at least more than his normal form. His eyes always reflect his personality - which is always Kuro, so they're always red. His clothing consists of a tight bottom outfit of black, white and gray, reinforced with tall steel boots, a metalic 'x'-ed belt around his stomach and waist, and oversized metal gloves. He sports a white coat, which fits near the top but flairs at the bottom. Underneath is a well tied red bow, true to the magical boy genre, and around his neck is a huge red scarf that billows with each step he takes. Upon his chest, underneath the jacket, Gemini's star shape is encrested as a curly symbol of silver.

______it makes me special ;;

Makoto has only mastered two manifestations, since he really cared not to learn more than that, but the two that he has he knows inside and out and works extremely well with; his weapon, a set of twin derringer guns named Hiyari and Toshita, and his beast Eiki, a snowy lynx.

_____Hiyari and Toshita; Twin Ice Derringers
Two very small guns are Makoto's weapon manifestation. Hiyari and Toshita are magically-powered derringers; two pocket sized weapons that fit easily into his small hands. They have little to no recoil when fired, and unlike real derringers, do not have a set barrel size; they do not run out of bullets, nor do they need to reload. Hiyari and Toshita are identical in power and ability. They do not shoot metal bullets, but shards of ice; razor sharp shards that slice instead of pierce. They have very, very small freezing abilities, close to Eiki's Tsumetai ability, but with a radius of no more than an inch and a half. They can be shot with about a two second wait time, but when rotated between the pair that make for one shot per second.

          _____Eiki; Snow-Bound Lynx
The lynx is the beast represented in Makoto's tattoos, and ultimately is his animal weapon and partner, affectionately named Eiki. Lynx are smaller wildcats, with a large, thick furred coat, tuffed ears, short bob-tails and large paws for climbing across the snow. They are typically solitary animals who hunt at night to avoid human contact. The lynx, as it is a wild cat, represents the strength of heart that Makoto holds hidden inside of him, and it's smaller size and solitary nature match his personality. His beast, when summoned, stands at about three and a half feet. Eiki has gray and white fur, speckled with black spots, and a white and brown tipped nose and tail. His tufts of fur at the tips of his ears seem a tad bit longer than that of the average lynx. He also bears a mane around his neck; a fluff of fur that makes his chest and upper body appear much larger than the rest of him. Just like Makoto, he possesses sky blue eyes. Eiki's powers seem to revolve around the cold; ice and snow. When summoned he typically stays close to his master, at his side loyally. He is strong enough to carry Makoto upon his back. He is resistant to any form of ice or water attack, but bears weakness to any form of hot flame. His reaction to dying will flames vary, depending on the type. He has two major abilities.

Tsumetai - When activated, anything that Eiki's large paws come in contact with freezes into ice. With each step, his paws could pave a path of ice. The radius of freezing is about three inches past the width of his paw, for a total of about twelve inches; however, freezing water will stretch to the full length of the pool of water, or whatever is wet. This makes this ability significantly stronger when used with water or on water; this includes anyone who might have just gotten out of the water and is still wet. It also, unfortunately, makes this ability useless of Eiki is wet himself. The freezing of water can be used as an ability to walk upon water.

Yukimatsuri - Eiki casts a snow storm from his breath; with a roar, he shoots a torrent of snow and ice towards the enemy. Similar to the breath weapon of mythological dragons, it is a torrent attack that can have different strengths, depending on what kind of effort Eiki is putting into it. Not only is it extremely cold and the sheer wind of it carries great strength, but within the breath are razor sharp ice crystals that cut like blades. Eiki uses this attack far less than Tsumetai, as it is much more powerful and Makoto feels there is no need to overexert when you don't have to. The attack has a straight forward range, and can only shoot in one solid direction.

______it makes me hot ;;

Makoto is a small boy for his age, who probably won't grow much taller than he already is. By appearance, he probably comes off as a sixteen year old, but he is most definitely eighteen. He stands at a height of five foot four, and has a mere weight of one hundred and twenty pounds. That in itself would be underweight for a woman, and so it is not particularly healthy for a man; underneath his clothing, Makoto is extremely thin and lanky, an unfortunate side effect from a birth-given disease. His hands and face seem merely slender, but his body is missing what would be vital body fat; he's not particularly skin and bones, but he could certainly gain a few pounds! His eyes are a deep sky blue that shine with a hidden flame of determination when not downcast in shyness. They are the slightest bit larger than your average Asian, though are still slim. Framed around his face are light golden locks of soft blond. He keeps his hair somewhat long for a man, ending just past his shoulders. His locks are cut into feathery strands that curl around his cheeks, the longer pieces curling just at the ends, outwards and away from him. Full, almost fluffy, and well taken care of, they accent his off tanned skin. Makoto is naturally pale, however, this is another symptom of the disease he had at birth. To hide this - so not to show weakness, especially being a member of the Yakuza - Makoto actually uses tanning salons in secret to make his skin just a little bit darker than the average, and to hide how pale he really is...

To hide his thin body, Makoto often wears clothing a size too big for him. His school uniform is indeed a size up from what it should be. When at work or spending time casually out, he likes large sweaters, hoodies, and pieces with long sleeves, often long enough to cover up part of his hands when hanging down by his side. He is almost never found in short sleeves, in fear of people catching onto his low weight and arising suspicions. When on the field with the other assassins, he is dressed very simply. A white, button-up undershirt is covered up by a black, hooded jacket, appearing like a natural suit jacket but with a hood on the back. Accompanied with this are straight black pants and black shoes, and wrapped around his neck is a medium length daffodil yellow scarf. Makoto's favorite accessory is, in fact, the scarf. He has tons in different colours and shades. He loves to be warm, and often wears multiple layers. When at home, with his father or in the shrine, he is always dressed traditionally; the full kimono-styled robes, with sandaled feet and free of any type of accessories. The colours he tends to lean towards are the neutrals (black, white, gray), blues, yellows, and greens. He likes softer shades as opposed to bright, flashy ones.

Upon Makoto's back he bears the tattoos of the Yakuza assassins. Starting from the bottom are ash-gray swirls of darkened snow, and speckled all along the outside of the tattoo are mere dots that are the representation of the falling snow. Fallen in the bottom part of the tattoo, mixed in the gray snow, are the remains of an artistically-represented shrine, in pieces and torn, and swirling from that are his two manifestations; etched in blue is the large lynx, made up of lines with gray-filled in; it's made up of markings instead of the physical form of the lynx, save for it's facial features which are extremely accurate and appear artistically real. Swirling from the markings of the lynx's body form the two guns; the handles starting off as artistic markings, and as it draws closer to the barrel they become more realistic. The scene seems to represent a great beast - the lynx - in the shattered ruins of a destroyed shrine, with the two guns coming out of and merged with it's back. The piece starts below his shoulders and goes straight down to the tip of his tail bone; it is extremely detailed, and one would have to stare a moment to make sense of it. The main colours featured within it are blues and the neutral colours; gray, black, and white.

✖ now it's personal ; ;

______internal workings ;;

It's quite surprising that someone like Makoto could even consider being part of the Yakuza. It's hard to even imagine him as an elementary school bully! Makoto holds next to none of the qualities needed to really stand strong in the business that he's in. Shy, nervous, unable to speak out, far too careful, and an all around guy that just barely stands out. But hidden underneath the layers of introverted personality lies an unwavering will that one would not expect to find; a protective nature that flares up when what is dear to him is threatened, and a strength that one would rarely find in the strongest military soldiers. He is a boy of heart and not of mind; a true follower of the Boss, a believer in their goal, and yet the most gentle gang member you'll ever meet!

Anyone's first impression of Makoto is generally the same. He's a parent's dream child, and yet a problem when it comes to socializing and friends. Makoto is very, very shy. He has a hard time finding the words to say what he wants to say, and nearly never initiates conversation even when he can think of what he wants. He is rather quiet and reserved. Even when asked a question or spoken to one-on-one, responses are usually given in stutters, in a small voice, or with an unsure tone. He has been this way his whole life, and yet somehow still can't find a way to cope! He'll never be a good public speaker, nor will he ever have the confidence to lead anything; Makoto is a born follower. He's the quiet kid in the back of the class; that guy you see sitting off alone on a park bench; that one person who's always in the back of the crowd, watching, uninvolved. He doesn't do well in one-on-one situations. Though most introverts prefer to be out of the crowd, Makoto likes larger groups. It gives him less attention and less expectation to speak out; if there are others around, he does not need to worry about creating awkward silence. He's perfectly happy with being the third wheel. He is also very well mannered; aside from the fact that he doesn't speak out of turn and is an excellent listener, he also keeps mannerisms and politeness to a perfect tee, even to enemies or rivals. His shoes are always off before he enters, he bows his head, he knows his 'please' and 'thank you's, and he always waits his turn. He's a good kid - he really is - who seems innocent enough, though if you're simply carrying out a conversation with him, he's up to more than what you would think...

Though he is quiet, it's not that he's detached; no, Makoto is always listening. Years of watching instead of involving have developed a great sense of observance within him. He has come to learn how to divulge important information out of the smallest conversations, and knows tricks to keep the other talking. He's always studying, determining, diving deeper into the person's life and thoughts; deeper than one would even suspect. Because he is quiet, and comes off quite innocent, this trick tends to go unnoticed. Within a five minute conversation, Makoto will know more about you than you could ever imagine! He is an excellent judge of character. It is no supernatural skill nor god-given ability; Makoto simply knows how to work others in this way, and he knows how to take and read the words they give, altered by the factors of their personality and situation. He has a superb memory and rarely forgets facts about others. A silent watcher of sorts, it is something that he unconsciously does, whether he plans to or not. He understands people a great deal. He is less sympathetic of situations than you would think as well; he has a big heart for anyone in the Yakuza and will always consider them and their feelings, but anyone outside seems far away and distant from his heart. Because he comes to understand many feelings and emotions of other people, and learns many things about their life, the only way to stay sane and not feel like helping the world is to detach one's self. Because of this, he may come off as a bit cruel, or unemotional to outsiders, but it is really a defensive tactic he's had to build upon himself to keep his mentality. As a man of heart, if one was to involve himself far too emotionally, he'd be overcome! And as Yakuza, you're not supposed to be the kindest, right? Some tougher situations he finds himself feeling for, but in the end he has the strength to be able to turn his back on outsiders. Lucky for him, because if he went around helping people, he wouldn't be a very good suboordinate!

He is easy to fluster and often becomes nervous, especially when he's the center of attention. He doesn't like being stared at, doesn't like too much attention, and especially doesn't like being picked on! He's an easy one to bully, though, and his reactions make him a desirable target. He tends to raise his voice and object, stutter, deny and try to escape. Even so, he has a hard time doing it strongly, and therefore fails to save himself. (Especially from a certain flirt who can't seem to stay off of him!) He's guilty of trying to hide behind other people, in corners or small spaces, or even just dart half way across the room. His cheeks seem almost permanently red with blush, darkening when attention is drawn to him. 'Cute' would be a good word to describe it, but as an almost full grown male, he doesn't particularly like the name tacked on. Because of this, he may seem weak or defenseless, but it's simply that he's no good in social situations. Verbally he seems clumsy and awkward. When his true light shines, it's a blow to any impression one may have developed of him; a complete change from the shy, nervous, weak male that seems to exist the rest of the time.

There is but one person that he always seems to be able to keep his cool in front of. One person where all nervousness is lost, where he can speak freely - albeit quietly - and can express himself, where he finds confidence in himself and his words. That same person is the only person he can never figure out. The Boss. The Yakuza's leader is a near-holy entity in Makoto's eyes, and he plainly feels safe under his command. His strength and resolve and devotion to this man are unwavering. He has no problem reporting, or acting in front of the Boss. In fact, he's probably better off! It's probably the Boss' understanding of this that has kept Makoto in the ranks. There is another time that he can come off strong, and that is when someone he cares about is involved. If he is fighting for someone, there is a bizarre confidence that one would not expect to come from him. Whether it be that his friends are in danger, that they are depending on him, or that he is merely fighting alongside them or for their cause, Makoto is unstoppable. He is calm, level headed and cool. It is a complete change from the normal Makoto; he will do anything - literally, anything - for those important to him. For the family - for anyone in the Yakuza - he'll lend a helping hand and can generally keep himself together with few slip ups. However, for the Boss, and for those close to him - other members of the higher ranks - he becomes a completely different person for them. This trait, picked up early on by the Boss, is again what keeps him where he is. Anything to do with the Yakuza draws out hidden potential from within his shy self. He is powerful, in moderation, and it only kicks in with the appropriate situations. He will not lose, he will not fail... he won't let himself.

Makoto is unbelievably loyal, and he cares for those close to him with a strength like no one would believe. He is self sacrificing and puts those important to him first, no matter what. He has a low self worth; others are far more important than him in his eyes. Because the number of his friends are small and few, he cares for them with a radiant love. He is not needy; he can give them space and is fine with being alone. Makoto also believes in his cause completely. Though it is something that you would not expect to come from such a gentle boy, he believes in the Boss. He believes in the Yakuza. He is not a variable factor; he will not switch sides, will not even consider the Mafia to be right. No. The Boss is too picture-perfect to be wrong, and the Yakuza is the only place that he has ever belonged...

Makoto was, indeed, born with an illness that as marked his death. He has an estimated life expectancy of about twenty five years. It has not affected his strength as much as it has affected his appearance as of yet, but he has bouts of sickness and is more susceptible to other illness. He tries to hide this fact above all things, and little to no people in the Yakuza are aware of this. The only two would be his adoptive father, Itou Homura, and his boss, who Makoto has not told, but it is most likely that a man of his type has already figured it out. Makoto does not want to appear weak in front of the others, nor does he want to make it seem like he needs special attention, so he will do everything in his power to keep this fact from them. When he reaches about twenty one or twenty two, the illness will most likely take it's full effect, and then he may lose his strength to continue on in the Yakuza.

______story of my life ;;

Asashi Makoto and Asashi Himiko were born as a set of fraternal twins two months before their due date, to mother Asashi Mai and father Asashi Toma. Pregnancy was hard on their mother and she went through countless complications, leaving the twins to be thought to not make it through the term, and the mother just as likely to have the pregnancy be fatal to her. Mai and Toma had been lovers that met through work and were deeply infatuated with each other, and so the thought of losing his beautiful wife to the unborn twins was hard on Toma. Unfortunately, upon the day of their birth, that horror came to be; Mai lost her life giving birth. However, the twins were saved; a beautiful baby boy and girl brought into the world. Himiko took after her mother in appearance almost instantly, while Makoto was a mixture of the two parents. Even as a baby, one could see the Mai in Himiko. However, there was a problem. Both children were born with an incurable disease; a fatal complication that was the cause of the trouble that they had in their mother's womb. Both children had the disease. It was a slow killer, and the life expectancy varied. Makoto was much healthier than his sister. The estimated expectancies for the pair were ten years for Himiko, and twenty five years for Makoto, and this was if they had full, proper, and successful treatment. Treatment included blood transfusions once every few months, and possible organ replacements as they grew older. Toma was devastated. He was left with no wife, and two children that were doomed to die even before he. It was a sad day for he and his family, left with such a horrible road ahead...

Makoto was, in fact, much stronger than Himiko, and it showed even when they were little. They were both physically weak, but Makoto had the mental drive to do things and to push forward, while Himiko needed much help. Makoto even showed promise; it was possible that he would grow out of the disease before he reached a rough age, as long as they took care of him with unfaltering care. Himiko was not so lucky. But Himiko was Mai in Toma's eyes. All Toma could see was his beautiful wife in Makoto's sister; a reborn form of his lover and best friend. Makoto, from day one, drew the short stick because of that - because of his sister's appearance. Blood donors were small and few for their blood type, and so it was becoming increasingly hard to find treatment for the pair; and because of that, Himiko was given priority. Makoto did not receive as much treatment as his sister, nor as much as he should have to abolish the disease from his sister. In fact, his father highly favored Himiko, and Makoto was the last chosen for everything. Himiko got perfect treatment. Makoto got lack luster care. Toma stepped carefully through the medical system to ensure he was not caught. And this was how Makoto grew up - unfavored, living in his sister's shadow, left out and often forgotten by the only living parent he had left.

Despite what his father had done, Himiko and Makoto were extremely close. Himiko was never told the truth, and though Makoto was smart and realized what was happening at an early age, he could never hate his sister. They grew an inseparable bond. Makoto would always be with his sister when she was in the hospital, and vice versa. Father may have ignored him, but Himiko always loved him. He was a quiet child who was too shy and reserved to fight for what he deserved. And he didn't have the heart to tell Himiko of the favoritism; she was such a happy, caring child that it would have devastated her to hear. He lived with it, quietly, and accepted it. It was a deep blow to his confidence and self worth. But he loved Himiko so much that he could not deny her - and therefore, it went on. They grew up like that. Himiko continued to get progressively sick, while Makoto's symptoms were very mild. His father did shady work to rake in the money for the medical procedures, but had none to treat Makoto with. Though his life expectancy remained longer than his sister's, by this point it was impossible to think that he would grow out of it - Makoto would not live to the age of thirty, thanks to his father's favoritism and negligence. But he didn't think of it that way. No, he was merely giving his sister a chance at a better life by sacrificing his...

One could really only hide something like that for so long. When the children were ten, Himiko was still around - a miracle of miracles. But she was failing fast. She needed a full transplant - a lung transplant - and fast. And so, of course, father looked to Makoto. Sure, he wasn't healthy, but the disease hadn't spread to his respiratory organs yet, and Makoto would have been a perfect match. Makoto didn't want to. He loved his sister, he really did, but she was only suffering now. Always in pain, always in the hospital... If only he had a choice. His father signed all the papers. He said nothing. And the doctors were going to go through with it. However, a minor slip up occurred. Himiko heard of who was going to do the transplant. She inquired with the nurse why, if he was sick, could he do such a thing. Why wasn't he getting treatment like her? And though the nurse assured her that he was not as sick as her, Himiko did not stop there. She ended up tearing through her files and tracing his through hers, to find out that no, he was not receiving treatment for anything. Things started to click and piece together. She realized the difference between what happened to her and what happened to him, and how much her father favored her. And here Makoto was, still loving her like a brother should, even though he had nothing. Giving up his organs for a girl that was stealing his shot at life. For his sister, who his father ignored him for. For his sister, who took away his treatments...

And so, when Asashi Makoto was ten years old, he received the phone call from the hospital announcing his sister's death -- but no, it was not just that. His sister's suicide.

Himiko gave her life in attempt to give Makoto a life. Makoto was devastated. Toma was as well. He lost the will to do anything; stopped working, stopped earning money, stopped living, practically. Makoto was left in a house to take care of himself, with bills unpaid and collectors coming to the door. Alone in a dark, dreary house, without his sister. It was that time when he first met them - the people that would change his life. Strange men came to the door, demanding payment from his father. That he had worked with them, used their money in order to keep Himiko in the hospital, but didn't pay them back. He didn't have the money. Of course he didn't; he wasn't working! And so, upon that day, about half a year after Himiko's death, Asashi Toma was killed by the Yakuza for being unable to repay their money. And little Makoto was left alone, with no family... but numb. Numb to the death of the man that had ignored him, with no love in his heart. He only cared for mother and Himiko, and they were gone, anyway -- he shed not a single tear. One of the Yakuza members, upon inspection of the house for any goods, found the emotionless boy in a closet, hiding from the bad men that had broken into his house; and that man, without telling the others, took Makoto in. He was an older man, single, no lover, no children, and the young boy was either to be killed or taken in. This man, Itou Homura, brought Makoto home and took care of him and raised him. The boy was utterly shocked at the kindness he received from the Yakuza member. This man took him under his wing and treated him like his own son! Makoto's own father never did that for him! It was not difficult for Makoto to become attached to Homura. Homura gave him a life, let him go to school, gave him as much treatment as he could... sure, the disease would never leave Makoto by this point, but he would live life to the fullest and longest. Because Homura owned a shrine and lived in a small house beside the temple, Makoto grew used to the every day life of taking care of the shrine, and grew very devoted to it. Makoto loved Homura more than he ever loved his family. And he lived onwards, living for both his mother and his sister, carrying their lives upon his shoulders; the two women that died for him...

When Makoto was fourteen, he was assimilated into the Yakuza. He was introduced as Itou Makoto, taking Homura's name without a second thought. He began small, but his power was incredible and he increased in the ranks fast. He had caught the eye of the boss, and was brought into the team of assassins within two years. He was young - a mere sixteen years old, working as a high assassin for the Yakuza, but Homura had kindled the flame in his heart well. Makoto cared deeply for all of the Yakuza, considering them the only people that ever accepted him. He felt at home and welcome, no matter what terrible things they did. He wanted nothing more than to stay with them until his last day. His promising strength - the sheer power of his will and devotion to the Yakuza, his ability to protect them, and the strange change in personality that seemed to overtake him when dealing with things involving the Yakuza, making him a stronger person - were what brought him to where he was. Homura did little work by the time Makoto reached the age of eighteen, as he was an old man. He did smaller, less-involved jobs on the side. Makoto was considered his son, and no one knew better - the rest thought them to be flesh and blood. And Makoto didn't want it any other way. He could forget Asashi Toma, and remember only Mai and Himiko, travelling onwards with them in his heart...
