By human standards Shion appears to be around twenty six or so years old. After reaching one hundred years she grew pointed ears and dark horn-like appendages from above her ears. Her hair is about as long as the bottom of her shoulder blades and the usual pale white color of her people, but her skin is lightly tanned a few shades darker than the average pigment. She has a rather soft looking face. Her preference in clothing depends on which persona she is using at the time. When she considers herself Ries she usually wears only practical and comfortable attire as she is usually working. Robe-like clothing and light pants and shirts work well for her. When she isn’t working and takes on her given name of Shion, she prefers higher class wear such as intricately patterned dresses and fur textures. Ear accessories are her favorite, especially ear cuffs.

Shion has a tendency to overwhelm herself with her work, but that stems from her concerns of Volle dependence on humans. She wishes to develop a vaccine which would cure her species and believes in their superiority over humans, but still enjoys studying their culture so she may understand the species they share the planet with better. She views the farming of humans as grotesque and demeaning for her species but understands its current necessity. The actual process of farming humans bothers her greatly and the cruelty involved can weigh heavily on her mind. Although she views humans as humans would a farm animal, she does not enjoy causing suffering. Due to this she has created a persona she named Ries and demands to be called such when working.

Although a persona and not a separate personality, Ries and Shion have their differences. While Ries is usually calmer and less inclined toward humor, she is also more likely to become flustered if things do not go the way she expects. Shion usually carries an upbeat demeanor when she is herself and is tough to anger, but if she does become angry she may steam about it for a long period of time. When she is corrected by another she takes it well, but when she is wrong and there is no guidance for her she becomes very frustrated and agitated. Shion values those she loves greatly and values her work almost equally as much. She is a very diligent worker and hates to be late.

Shion did not have the privilege of knowing her home planet. She was born aboard the spaceship during the early years of their journey as the first of two sisters and trained very early in hand-to-hand combat. Her training was informal at first but as she grew older she was also enrolled in formal schooling for martial arts. However, her skill did not prove as great as her sister’s and her abilities seemed to be far more geared toward academics. As a result her parents enrolled her sister in martial arts schooling instead and Shion was made to focus on her academic work.

As she grew older Shion showed more talent in sciences than anything else. She made the decision to become a scientist when she delved into the history of her people, finding the scientific advances the most important to their continued prosperity. She grew to become quite scholarly and found herself a scientist as she had planned in her adult life.

She felt the pressure and panic which came from low supplies on the ship. It seemed as if their people would never find a suitable planet and in her opinion they never really did. Inhabiting the same planet as humans was far less than ideal. The similar DNA between the two species would make the Vollean people too vulnerable for Earth to be safe, but her inner protests were quieted from the lack of supplies. Their only course of action was to inhabit Earth or they would die without resources.

Shortly after they landed her sister passed from the same event Shion had predicted: the Vollean people becoming infected with the diseases of humans. She quickly went to work to discover a vaccine, but the only method which could be found to aid their people was the consumption of human blood.

When the war erupted between her own race and humans Shion supported her people through intense research on human anatomy, allowing the information to be used against the humans, and she quickly became involved in the farming of humans soon after the fighting settled. Now she lives in the city with her fellow Volleans and some humans, choosing to make the trip to the human farms daily rather than settle close to the farms.
