xTabitha knew that things could definitely be much worse in her relationship with Kristian. Thankfully, it hadn’t turned out to be the type to where they were on the verge of plotting to kill one another. The last thing she needed was another person to butt heads, and especially one that she would be forced to live with. Really, it was bad enough that she had to deal with people like that at school, so it was a true blessing to Tabitha that she was able to get along well with the other. Of course, the small fact that they got along much better than just ‘well’ didn’t hurt much at all, and was something that she was truly ecstatic about.

Still, even if she was overjoyed with the whole ordeal, Tabitha knew that if her mother found out, she wouldn’t feel the same way at all. That was why at practically all costs, she wasn’t going to let this all slip out, or at least not yet. For once in her life, she was finally able to get with someone that she liked, and Tabitha was bound on making sure that her mother didn’t ruin this for her or Kristian. Well, at least there was one advantage to their parents getting married: they would be able to spend more time together than they ever did before.

Hearing her step-sister’s comeback, Tabitha couldn’t help but to smirk as a part of her reply to the statement. The words that the other said definitely seemed to sound like ones that were hinting towards a bit of flirting, but at this point, she expected no less than that from Kristian. ”I guess so,” she replied in false disappointment. There was just something about teasing the girl that was entertaining in Tabitha’s book. Of course, most of what she was considering teasing was practically flirting, at this point. Obviously, neither of them cared about that, though.

It was also no surprise that the other decided to tease her a bit. Once she heard the reply come from the other’s mouth, Tabitha couldn’t help but to scowl slightly. She knew that she that she wasn’t exactly immature, at least most of the time, but was she really that bad? Tabitha could only hope that she wasn’t. The scowl that had had once been on her face was wiped away the second the other kissed her. God, she would never get tired of the affection or the feelings it brought her.

”I don’t know, can you? Tabitha stated, teasing (which was pretty much flirting at this point) with the girl. Really, as long as Kristian didn’t care about her borderline flirting, then neither did she. Hell, it wasn’t like she didn’t receive the same sort of words. Besides, it was all out of the fun and games it seemed to spark between them, or at least it was for Tabitha. Hearing the words that her step-sister muttered, she felt like she couldn’t do anything to reply. This was definitely one of the moments where Tabitha cursed being such a shy individual, but this was truly nothing new. It seemed as soon as her blushing would fade, it would just find another way to spread back across her face, just like it had done now. Using her own words against her, Tabitha just nodded, knowing that even if she tried, she wasn’t going to make any sense, that was, if she could even speak.

Opposites attract. Tabitha should have known that such thing would come up in a conversation between the two of them, just like her curiosity had. Sighing, she nodded in confirmation to what the other had said. It was the truth, and much as Tabitha didn’t really want to admit it. It had always seemed to her that whole opposites attract thing was just corny and unfitting in most cases, but maybe it did fit in this one rare case. As spontaneous as everything seemed to be between herself and Kristian, it wouldn’t be a true surprise to her if ended up like that in the end.

Truthfully, Tabitha hoped that it wasn’t too obvious to even her steps-sister that she was anxious to get out of the house. So, it was pretty obvious to her that the other was definitely ready to be anywhere but the house, but becoming anxious, to Tabitha, made it seem like she was possibly becoming a bit pushy. Even if it didn’t seem so to herself, after awhile, it could become quite obvious of how worrisome and self-conscious Tabitha could be, in certain situations. Right now, though, she was more focused on the fact that her mother was gone and she was able to be in Kristian’s arms and she was able to put her own around the other. From the other’s exclamation, it was obvious to her that she wasn’t the only one that wanted to get out of the house as soon as possible. She had no clue as to where they were actually going, but she was going to have to trust Kristian on this one it seemed. Well, at least if she led them somewhere to where they got lost, she wouldn’t be alone.

Realizing that the other had taken a hold of her hand, Tabitha peered down for a moment while gripping onto Kristian’s hand before looking back up at her with a small grin. Finally, they were alone. Just the two of them. If only things could be that way all of the time, or at least when they wanted it to actually be that way without having to leave a more active area. When she felt Kristian’s hand pulling away from her own, Tabitha released the grip she once had on it.

Tabitha couldn’t help but to roll her eyes as she heard her step-sister’s voice. Obviously, she wasn’t too patient, but it wasn’t like she had much room to talk in that area, though. Luckily, she had no problem with heights or climbing. If she did have some sort of problem with it, Tabitha was bound not to mention it, since in her opinion that would just lead to more embarrassment for herself. ”Oh, thank you for your such kind words, Kristian!” she replied sarcastically as she carefully climbed up into the tree house.

As soon as Tabitha had hoisted her up into the tree house, she made her way over to her step-sister. She grabbed onto the other’s arm, wrapping her own around it, and slightly leaned on her for support. ”We’re finally alone. Finally. This was practically one of the best things Tabitha could have gotten now: complete alone time with Kristian. Here, she was sure they wouldn’t have to worry about their parents or anyone that would tell about their forming relationship. It was a tree house, but it was good enough for her. Hell, virtually anything would have been good enough for Tabitha, just as long as she got the time with the girl that she longed for.

xEven if a tree house wasn’t exactly the epitome of romantic locations, that didn’t really matter. Tabitha was just glad that the two of them were actually able to get away from everyone else for awhile. Here, it seemed like their chances of being caught were extremely low. This was definitely a relief, which helped the anxiousness Tabitha felt disappear. Now that those thoughts were out of her mind, she didn’t want them to come back or at least for them to come back now. Tabitha didn’t want to focus on the pessimistic thoughts; she wanted to have her focus on Kristian.

Things seemed to point to the brighter side. Now, the two were finally able to just be alone, where no one else could bother them. Watching her back was one thing Tabitha knew she wasn’t going to have to do while they were here. Hearing one of her nicknames being called out by the other, her eyes shot up, looking at the tree house, knowing the other was already within it. It was definitely tempting to make some comment about how she wasn’t exactly too fond of the name, but Tabitha decided against such a thing, in the end. Never had she been a fan of cats, and having a nickname that was the same name for a breed of the animal didn’t really pass by her too well. Although, when Kristian said it, it just didn’t as bad as it used to be. That didn’t make it completely better, though, but Tabitha could handle it.

”Yeah, you better make it up to me,” she mumbled to herself as she returned her focus to climbing up into the tree house. Being outdoors wasn’t a problem for Tabitha, but heights were definitely a different story. Still, just the fact that this was probably the only place that the two of them could be together without having to watch their backs made things better. The entire time she made her way carefully up into the tree house, still having a small amount of fear lingering in her thoughts. It was a definite relief to Tabitha once she had hoisted herself up into the tree house, with the help of Kristian. ”Thanks,” she said quietly.

Tabitha couldn’t help but to grin at the other’s comment. It really did seem nearly impossible to get away from her mother for even the slightest moment. Thanks to all of this, she could finally show her step-sister some sort of affection without having to worry about being caught holding or kissing the other. ”With how paranoid my mother is, it’s practically a miracle, I swear,” she joked as she tightened her grip on the other slightly. Although, the part about the woman being paranoid wasn’t much of a joke at all. Unfortunately, Tabitha knew that Kristian would learn about that after awhile with living with her.

The smile didn’t leave her face as she stood there holding onto the other. Even though she hadn’t known of this place long at all, Tabitha was ready to jump onto the fact that she too loved the place. So, it was mainly the fact that she was fond of the isolation that the tree house held, but that was enough for her. ”And when was that? Last week?” she teased in a soft voice. As time passed, it was definitely becoming more obvious that Tabitha really didn’t know when to shut her mouth at times. Of course, with that, she had to actually become comfortable enough with someone to speak more than a few simple sentences to them.

One thing that stood out to her, though, was the fact that it seemed like she was beginning to talk more than her step-sister seemed to be now. That was definitely odd, especially for someone like Tabitha, who was obviously not the most outspoken person to live. ”That just makes it all the better, right?” That was enough for Tabitha. If they were the only ones that even knew about, that meant there would be absolutely no interruptions. And the thought of having no interruptions during the times in which they wanted to be alone was just perfect. Seeing that mischievous smile growing on Kristian’s face, Tabitha couldn’t help but to become a bit curious. Did she even want to know what thoughts had fueled this smile?

”My lips are sealed,” Tabitha mumbled in reply as moved in order to wrap her arms around the other’s neck, returning the kiss in the process. It was a relief to her that she had finally found someone outside of her small number of friends that she was able to open up to. Of course, just a few days ago, she hadn’t thought that it would be possible that she could even be able to handle living with the other, let alone opening up to her. Obviously, things had taken a much brighter turn for Tabitha. Still, no matter what she did, her shy, introverted side was always bound to show through. Even with Kristian, it had been proven that she was no exception to this small ordeal.

Of course, it was no real surprise that “shazam and color” had made its way into their conversation, or at least it wasn’t to Tabitha. It just helped remind her as why she had even fallen for the girl in the first place, too. That small amount of jealousy sparked it all—jealous of the fact that she couldn’t seem to be as outgoing or carefree as the other. God, how she glad that her feelings had turned into a crush rather than hatred, though. Hair color? This was really what their conversation had amounted to? With how spontaneous as both them seemed to be within their chatting, though, Tabitha couldn’t say that it was much of a surprise to her. ”Blonde? I don’t think it would look bad, just as long as you don’t go platinum blonde or anything like that.” Of course, hair color wasn’t exactly her area of expertise. Her own hair had stayed the same shade of brown all seventeen years of her life, and Tabitha wasn’t exactly planning to change that anytime soon.

xUnfortunately, Tabitha knew no matter how much time they spent alone with each other that day, tomorrow was a school day. School was going to different now, for sure. Was she supposed to spend more time around Kristian, especially after what the day had held? All she knew was that she was absolutely horrible at anything dealing with relationships. Well, neither of them had even said that they were in a relationship together, but Tabitha felt like it was safe to assume that that was where everything was heading towards. Still, it seemed awkward to her to just suddenly cast herself from what she normally did and try to make her way into Kristian’s social life. How was she even supposed to try and get along with others that she barely even knew, anyways? It was possible that this was just another question that had come into Tabitha’s mind that was just best left unanswered.

She forced the thoughts and worries of school the next day out of her mind, though. All that needed to matter to her now was the simple fact that she was finally alone with the girl she wanted to be with. Such a request seemed like a difficult one, yet, it had practically come to the two of them so easily. Of course, the moment she stepped foot back into the house, Tabitha knew her mother was bound to go on about something she did, like it or not. And really, did the woman have to wonder why she even preferred staying with her father in the first place? Although, staying with her mom obviously had its perks, which definitely made things better.

Tabitha looked up at the other as she heard the questioning tone in her voice. In reply to Kristian’s question of her mother’s paranoia, she nodded. Thankfully, that was one personality trait she hadn’t picked up from the woman. It was obvious she didn’t, seeing that she was often told by her that she was practically as lazy as her father was. At least that was some reassurance for Tabitha. ”I’ve got a cell phone, and trust me, it’s close enough. I mean, the woman texts me for chrissakes, and she goes insane when I don’t answer,” she grumbled before burying her face against the other with a frustrated sigh.

Obviously, her mother didn’t seem to care that her overprotective habits were just making Tabitha wanting the day she could finally move out to come even quicker. Well, she did have to look on the bright side, though: at least she cared enough to be overprotective. Lifting her head up, she grinned at the other’s reply to her teasing. Thankfully, at this point, she was able to tell Kristian’s teasing from being serious, and seemed to be the same for her. ”What are you trying to make me feel like, eh? A *****] With lack of ability to act, which had been pointed out by her step-sister previously, it was obvious that Tabitha was once again playing around.

Tabitha didn’t want all of this to end. All of this was so much better than staying at home and unpacking from moving. Even if she had been told to unpack before the end of the day that obviously wasn’t going to happen now. Really, it was as if practically everything in the world just wanted to remind her of the upcoming five days of school that she had dubbed as hell. ”You definitely don’t have to say that twice.”

Being pulled into another kiss, she couldn’t help but to blush slightly, the familiar tint returning to her cheeks. Definitely, this was something she enjoyed, whether anyone else deemed it to be taboo or not. ”Of course,” Tabitha mumbled in reply. She wasn’t sure whether Kristian had been referring to their relationship or the tree house, but she figured that either way, it was a good thing to keep both quiet. If their parents hadn’t have gotten married, she wouldn’t have been so inclined to keep their relationship such a secret, but since they were, it seemed like they had no other choice. Being thought of as someone who had gotten themselves into a supposed incestuous relationship wasn’t what Tabitha wanted to spread throughout the town. They weren’t even blood related in the slightest, so how could it even be considered true incest anyways? Still, Tabitha was sure that convincing others to think of the idea in such a way wouldn’t come very easily at all.

She was sure that she could never get tired of the affection that they showed each other. Maybe it was just the excitement of the moment, but Tabitha knew that it was probably obvious that she liked it. ”I really hope that you know that I’m awful when it comes to fashion or hair. My opinions in those matters suck, I swear,” she warned the other. Being obsessed with looks was just one thing that Tabitha could never get herself into. Most of the time, she had just found it pointless, no matter how many times someone tried to consult her in said area. Besides, with a control freak like her mother, it wasn’t like she could go too crazy with anything she did. Oh, the joys of an overprotective parent.

”So, uh, I’ve been meaning to ask you this.” Even if curiosity hadn’t always gotten her into the best of situations, it was practically eating away at her. Tabitha just had some odd need to know the answer to at least one of the wild questions that ran through her mind as time passed. ”A-Are we together? I-I mean, it’s not like I have a girlfriend, obviously.”
