xWith everything that was scattered along the shore, Ariadne’s mind was definitely elsewhere. Curiosity couldn’t help but to make its way into her mind. It wasn’t that she hadn’t seen some of the effects of a storm before, but never had she seemed to deal with them along the shore. Ariadne tried to make it to where she wouldn’t show up at a time like this since she couldn’t really predict the mood that Jane was going to be in that day, but today was the exception. After having to deal with such a lecture from her sister, anything had to be better than being brought down so harshly by your own older sister. Her whole reason for coming was to just get all of that out of her mind and to focus her attention somewhere else. Still, bits and pieces of the heated talk between her and Tatiana still clung onto her thoughts, whether she liked it or not.

Truthfully, Ariadne hadn’t really taken much notice of Jane’s presence at that time. With her flustered thoughts, it seemed to be a difficult task for her to realize who that familiar voice she heard a bit distantly belonged to, and her wandering eyes didn’t help with that much either. Of course, soon enough, that voice came closer to her. That was when Ariadne was drawn from her thoughts and back into reality. Turning as soon as she heard a shortened version of her name, she turned around in respond to the speaker: Jane. It wasn’t odd at all to see the older girl working, since apparently, there was work to be done. Although, it seemed like her pirate crew was doing more of the work now than she was. Ariadne expected such an occurrence to happen. This wasn’t really anything out of the ordinary, especially for Jane.

”Fortunately, I haven’t seen the man,” she replied to the hasty question in a monotonous voice. Ariadne hadn’t had much of an encounter with the “new” Captain Hook, but she had caught enough glances at him to know what he looked like. What he sounded like was pretty much possible for her to remember clearly. ”Oh! I did hear some chatty people in the forest, though. I don’t have a clue who they are, though, since I didn’t see them.” At least that was possibly something that could help the other. It was obvious that Jane was especially cautious, well, more than she usually seemed to be. From what she had said, Ariadne knew it was safe to assume that the other would fight over claiming the various things that had collected due to the storm, especially if Hook came along trying to take it. Sure, this wasn’t her area of expertise or anything like that, but Ariadne knew enough about the older girl to put two and two together.

Of course, she knew that if Pan, one of those lost children or the Indians saw her around the other, things were bound to get a bit messy. She was playing on both teams, but last time she had checked, she could do practically whatever she wanted. No said that she couldn’t, and it was obvious that even if someone had told her so, Ariadne wasn’t going to be one that would follow those sorts of demands willingly. She knew the reason why she was trying to play on every team that she wanted to be on: she wanted to find some place where felt like she actually fit in. That place definitely wasn’t at the lagoon, which her sister had just proved to her again that morning. No matter how much she seemed to be trying to fit in amongst some of the humans that lived in Neverland, that wasn’t going too well as of lately. Knowing some of them, they probably thought she was just out to play some stupid game with them. That wasn’t how Ariadne liked to play, or at least that wasn’t how she would play almost one hundred percent of the time.

When Ariadne realized that Jane was coming closer in an attempt to do something, all of the muscles in her body seemed to tense up. She wouldn’t do anything bad, right? That was what she kept trying to tell herself. What if the other thought she was trying to play as some sort of spy for someone, which she wasn’t doing? Of course, it did come to Ariadne’s mind that she was just overreacting to something simple. Still, that didn’t stop her brown eyes from watching every movement that Jane made carefully. She wasn’t going to kill her or hurt her, or at least that was what Ariadne hoped would be the outcome of this all. And it was sheer relief when the other backed away, and the only thing that was different was the fact that now the necklace was around her neck.

Ariadne wasn’t sure if she had complimented her, but it seemed like that was what Jane had done. Such a thing was practically a new concept in her own life. It felt like she couldn’t even make herself have the words she spoke come out in such a way. Well, what did people expect from a mermaid, though? Definitely not much kindness or mercy, that was for sure. Still, Ariadne was trying her best to change that. So far, it hadn’t been working as great as she had wished. Being away from her “own kind” seemed to relieve some of the stress in her life, though. ”Thanks?” she said, although the statement came out as more a question due to her confusion. It was obvious that Ariadne didn’t know how to truly respond to what Jane had said. One hand reached up in order to hold the pendant that was attached to the fine, golden chain, running her fingers gently over the piece as she glanced at it for a moment. It felt odd to be around someone that wasn’t trying to criticize or lecture her about some topic she didn’t like, but at the same time, it felt somewhat good to Ariadne. Things definitely seemed to be looking up now.

”So, what’s your game plan for today?” Ariadne asked, trying to cover up the previous, awkward moment of hers. It wasn’t like she had anything better to do that day, and as long as the other didn’t do anything to upset her, she was bound to hang around until she found something better to do.

xIt was still a bit odd to Tabitha that she was hiding something like this from her mother. Of course, she had hidden plenty of things from the woman before, but most of the times, she had no reason not to be somewhat open around her. Still, Tabitha was quick to believe that her mother’s reaction to this whole situation wasn’t going to be one that either of them would like. Taboo was just one thing that just didn’t seem to pass by the woman too well, and she doubted that she could make it seem like a great thing to her anytime soon. Tabitha didn’t care about any of the claims and taboo and such, obviously, though. If she hadn’t even liked the idea of being in such a relationship with Kristian, she wouldn’t have been acting in the manner she had been presenting towards the other. For some reason, just because their parents decided to get married, now they couldn’t be in an open relationship with getting a ridiculous amount of criticism for the choice they made. It was their lives, and Tabitha was pretty sure that both of them wanted this relationship to work and to not fail them.

She couldn’t help but to find it frustrating at how much trouble such a seemingly simple relationship could cause, even if it wasn’t even out in the open yet. Tabitha knew that if it did get out, more labels would more than likely be forced upon both of them. Apparently to most it seemed, it was better to sleep around like a whore than to be in a committed relationship with someone if they were related to you in some way. She was sure that ridicule would come if work got out about their affection for each other. Still, it didn’t bother Tabitha as much as it probably should have. At this point, she was just used to the multiple rumors and labels that she had to deal with during school. It seemed like that she would want to think about what was going on right then rather than what she had to put up with at school. Still, the way some people could act within the school seemed to be quite crazy. Tabitha was happy with the relationship she was in now, as odd as it was, and as far as she could tell, Kristian seemed pretty alright with the concept, too. That was all that mattered to her now.

Tabitha couldn’t help but to worry about her mother’s reaction, though, no matter what she tried to do to get her mind off from the subject. Even if it wasn’t so obvious, she loved the woman and had enough respect for her to honestly care about her opinions. Really, the woman had her times where she wasn’t so over-protective, but she knew that she meant well by it all, or at least she hoped so. Tabitha was pretty sure that the woman cared about what she said, or sometimes she did. Their relationship was definitely an odd one, but they somehow kept it alive. When she had come out to the other, it just seemed to prove that fact. Of course, the woman had jumped to the conclusion that she was pregnant when she sat her down to talk, about something “completely serious”, but once she had straightened everything out, Tabitha knew that her mother didn’t have any spite against her for being a lesbian. That was definitely a relief for both of them.

Living with someone that was going to be against what she was hadn’t of worked out too well for Tabitha. That was why she was glad the woman had been so quick to accept the fact, even if she knew the other still worried about the fact to this day. Tabitha knew that the other feared the talk that others started within the town was going to make her do something rash with a boy just to get them off from her back, which was why she tried to reassure the other constantly that she was fine. And it was good for Tabitha to know that she had a step-father that wasn’t going to make some big deal out of her sexuality like some of the other people she knew had done before. The fact that her step-sister was accepting it and she was dating her made everything better, even if a relationship couldn’t truly mend everything in her life.

”Good,” she replied a bit smugly. Obviously, her smart comments didn’t even draw the line at her girlfriend. Tabitha was able to pick out the playful tone in Kristian’s voice, though, which told that the other wasn’t upset by her remarks. It was just her nature. ”Possibly, in your dreams,” Tabitha teased, as if she was intending on embarrassing the other. Something about seeing the other blush had caught her eye, and Tabitha knew that she wouldn’t have minded to see that tint on the other’s face again. Seeing such a reaction from the other just made it feel like she had accomplished some great feat, as if the act was possible. Hearing her girlfriend say that she was supposedly one of a kind, Tabitha laughed softly in reply.

Oddly, running away just sounded like a great idea to Tabitha, at the moment. It meant that she wouldn’t have to go to school tomorrow, worry about letting something slip amongst the swarms of people and everything else she seemed to despise about high school. ”I rarely ever do,” Tabitha replied to the other’s question with a laugh. Maybe that hadn’t been the best answer with their current situation, but at least it had been an honest one. Still, she highly doubted that her mother would be able to catch onto the fact that she was involved with her step-sister. Feeling Kristian tugging, Tabitha followed her hesitantly, not completely wanting to return home.

                                c u r i o s i t y didn't kill this cat.

The walk home just seemed so dreary and much less excitable than being in the tree house had been. Of course, Tabitha knew that now they actually had to wait until they were able to be alone with each other again. She followed Kristian into the house, shutting the door behind her, practically slamming it shut. Well, obviously this one wasn’t as hard to shut as the one in her old house had been. Tabitha was bound to forget that little fact, though. When the other stated that she didn’t know where her father was and leaned against the counter, she couldn’t help but to smirk a bit. Obviously, her girlfriend wasn’t exactly paying as much attention to everything like she was, but she didn’t doubt that her thoughts were probably elsewhere.

Witnessing the moment of sheer fear that crossed over the other, Tabitha couldn’t help but to laugh at Kristian’s reaction to seeing her father. As soon as she heard her step-father ask the other where they had gone, her laughter ceased, worry wanting to make itself back into her thoughts. Things couldn’t be ruined this early, they just couldn’t have been. When the other lied to cover up what they had actually been doing, a wave of relief passed over her. The man seemed to buy it, so it was definitely good enough for Tabitha.

Apparently, Kristian wasn’t to patient now. Impatience just wanted to make its way into her actions, but Tabitha refused to let it do so now. She knew that would be the one thing that could make her mother suspicious of what she was doing. Obviously, even at this hour, there weren’t really any set dinner plans. Tabitha was just itching to get out of the house already, even though they hadn’t been back long at all. She wanted to be back in the tree house, alone with her girlfriend and embracing her. When she was dragged from her thoughts, Tabitha realized that the man had left the room, and now she was trying to process the question that the other had asked her. ”I don’t really know. I’m awful when it comes to cooking.”

Tabitha had barely finished her statement when she knew what was coming now. ”Tabitha Elizabeth!” Oh, she couldn’t name the number of times that she had told her mother that she hated her middle name and didn’t like it to be used. ”Katherine Dianne,” she replied in a slight whimsical tone, as if trying to challenge the woman in front of her step-sister. Tabitha realized that for now, the woman wasn’t going to do anything for her comment. She’d probably pay for her later, but in the end, it all seemed worth it to Tabitha. ”What did I tell you?” Oh, great, a lecture. It was just best to end it now. ”No sex until I’m married, even if I’m gay? No calling your co-workers’ daughters dumbasses?” Both were things that the woman had pointed out her previously, but now she was just trying to get to her. Obviously, it worked.

Tabitha knew she was definitely going to get a one-on-one lecture sometime from her mother now. By tomorrow, though, it was quite possible that she would practically forget the whole conversation they were now holding. Apparently, she was taking it upon herself to actually try and find something to do for dinner. Tabitha moved in order to stand next to Kristian. The moment the woman’s back turned and she headed towards the pantry, she pressed her lips against her girlfriend’s for a moment. She had pulled back quickly, though, fearing that one of the adults could have just seen what she had done. A moment later, her mother returned, mumbling something and only God knew what she was saying at this point, but she was completely oblivious to the lip locking that had taken place just feet away from her. Once the woman had exited the room and they were alone for the time being, Tabitha smirked. ”How was that, dear?” she mumbled teasingly.

xBeing within the enemy’s territory was one thing that was able to her uneasy, and today, there was no exception to that for Michelle. It was quite possible that she was just being paranoid, but at least it caused her to stay alert; that was one thing that needed to stick in her, if anything. Truthfully, going into the city was one of the last things that Much wanted to do, but she had work to do, and so did Arianna. She wasn’t exactly close with the older girl, but with both of them being members of the infamous group of bandits, they did have some sort of odd bond. After being in said group for around three years now, though, it was a bit hard not to have at least an acquaintanceship with the others. Now, wasn’t the time to reminisce about how she became a part of such a group, though. Much had to keep her head in the game, or otherwise, there was definitely a greater chance that the guards that were roaming through their usual patrols could catch her as well as Arianna. And she was determined to not be the one that would screw everything up for the Blithe Bandits.

Where ever Arianna wandered, Much followed, not daring to fall behind. She had been in the city plenty of times before, and every time was in someone’s company, following them like a lost puppy wasn’t out of her nature. Eventually, she knew that they were closing in on their destination: the streets that made up the poor district of the city. Her brown eyes meeting with the older girl’s, she knew what the other intended on doing. Their movements to get down the less traveled streets they were planning to use had to be quick and discrete—Michelle knew that much already. When Arianna moved to the streets leading to the other district, she followed swiftly and quietly behind the girl. The advantage to travelling such streets was the fact that the guards didn’t seem to spend as much time patrolling them as they probably should have been. Much had seen enough of the behavior of John’s men to know that a greater number of them seemed to lack some common sense. Fortunate for the bandits, various ones seemed to lack the concept of having a wit, which Michelle, on the other hand, possibly had too much of. Soon enough, the two of them were at the door of the familiar inn, stopping in order to make one of the usual deliveries.

Although she was escorted inside of the inn along with Arianna, Much didn’t actually plan on staying within the building too long. Following the older girl wasn’t her job for the day. Yet again, it seemed that it was just yesterday since the last time she had piddled with the spy cameras set up throughout areas of the city. While listening to the short conversation that was ensuing between the innkeeper and the other bandit, Michelle pulled the hood of her obviously oversized jacket down. Due to being mistaken for a young boy too many times, she had finally allowed her mousy, brown hair to grow instead of cutting it. Still, the attempt still seemed to fail her more than she had hoped. Now, she was just left with her hair hanging an inch or so past her shoulders. With the lack of people within the inn today, it seemed like thinking was an easier task. Usually the collective noise of the other people’s chatter was enough to make it difficult to keep her train of thought moving smoothly and effortlessly.

Never in her travels back within the poorer districts of Sherwood had Much seen her parents again. Every time the subject came up, she tried to distract herself with something else that was occurring. Still, the thoughts would always linger, though. She had gotten out of the hell she had lived in before, but now she was finding it safe to assume that they hadn’t, or if they had, it was definitely not in a peaceful or nonviolent manner. Much had already set up plenty of walls to prevent a sort of breakdown when the thoughts decided to flood her mind, since that wasn’t something she didn’t to occur. Her mind switched back to the thoughts of the work she had to do as soon as the more pessimistic ones drifted away for the time being. She was determined on succeeding in helping the bandits win in their ongoing battle with John and his forces. The last thing she was going to take was letting her parents down on having a chance of living a better life.

Hearing the question that Arianna had directed towards her Much turned her attention back to the girl. Obviously, someone was eager to stay busy. That didn’t surprise her much, though, seeing that she was quite aware that the other was quite a free spirit. Even if they weren’t exactly close, Michelle knew enough about the other to know that about her. Hell, she knew small details about nearly everyone, thanks to bits of observation. Before she could even answer the first question, a second one came, that seemed to hold a small amount of begging within its words. Arianna was definitely desperate to get out, even if it was work, it seemed. ”Oh, I guess, since you asked me so nicely, dear,” Much replied in her usual, slightly raspy voice. Well, there was strength in numbers, right? Hopefully, in their case. ”Say, Arianna, think you still have some good distractions up your sleeve?” she asked, a smirk making its way easily onto her face. Much was obviously thinking about something, but with the way her mind seemed to work, to anyone but her, there was really no telling what kind of scheme she had thought of now. Typical Much—nothing new about her today, like any other day.

xTabitha wasn’t really worried about getting caught that night, just as long as that happened in the morning and not during their attempt at escaping the house. Of course, if her mother did catch them, she wasn’t going to be one that would be willing to just come out with the truth to the woman. Obviously, she seemed to care a little too much about what the other thought about her from time to time. Tabitha knew that she was safe unless one of her parents or their friends found out about her relationship. Somehow, she doubted that the woman’s friends actually knew her well enough to know whether she was dating someone or not. If they did, though, there went the normal view she had towards the women. Tabitha glanced over at Kristian, not too surprised that the topic of tattoos had come up within one of their conversations. It was obvious to her that the other had to be keener on the idea of getting one than she was.

”Can we just get stickers instead? Needles scare me shitless,” she questioned with a bit of short, nervous laughter. Needles had never been something that Tabitha had been comfortable around, and she doubted that she ever would be able to stand them. Being close to her girlfriend was one thing that Tabitha didn’t mind one bit, though. Even if they weren’t alone in the house, at least no one else was currently present in the kitchen. For now, it was just the two of them, and she would have preferred it if things would just stay that way for awhile. Tabitha couldn’t make herself believe that no one else would make their way into the kitchen, mainly because she wasn’t sure what her mother or step-father were going to do. It was just best to cherish the moment while she had it, though.

Sexy and sexier? Somehow, even that didn’t surprise Tabitha at this point in time. Still, she couldn’t help but to blush at the fact that Kristian had said something like that. One day, she was going to become a person that didn’t become so flustered and timid so easily, or at least that was what Tabitha hoped to do. ”This is probably one of the only times I’ll be able to admit that I can go both ways,” she joked as she felt her girlfriend’s arm slipping around her waist. The risks didn’t seem to get to either of them anymore. Well, Tabitha’s worries weren’t as great as they had once been, thankfully. Besides, taking risks made practically anything more exciting—even risqué in this case.

Realizing that her girlfriend was moving away from her, Tabitha groaned softly in protest, mainly wanting the other to stay by her side or with her arms around her. Obviously, her point didn’t get through, seeing as Kristian continued on her merry way. The radio was something that she could have dealt without then, mainly due to the music that was playing. Of course, it was practically a miracle if Tabitha ever admitted to liking anything that had become mainstream and stayed that way for too long. Songs written by a lovesick girl that couldn’t even keep a guy longer than a current fashion fad wasn’t much of Tabitha’s style at all, and it would probably never be such a thing either. Nothing new there.

Hearing the other giggle, she couldn’t help but to be curious as to what Kristian’s answer was. It really didn’t matter to Tabitha, but messing with the other was obviously something she did just for the hell of it. Besides, it was better when the teasing morphed into flirting, well, at least when she was teasing her girlfriend. Nope, messing around with Kristian would never get old. But now, she just wanted to stand there in the other’s grasp and just revere the small moment they were able to have together. Still, Tabitha knew that she was going to have to find something else to entertain herself until later that night. Kissing and holding each other didn’t seem too discrete, but that didn’t mean she was just going to take some of her flirty teasing out of her words. It wasn’t like her mother wasn’t used to something completely witty to escape her lips, though. Although, what she said could be considered quite belligerent in an odd, subtle way, especially when it came to the war of words that constantly seemed to spark between the mother and daughter. Tabitha would be careful with her words around the woman that night, or at least she hoped that she would be.

Speak of the devil. Why couldn’t her mom just pop up at a better time than now? Still, Tabitha had remained her usual self as her mother spoke, only changing slightly when showing her girlfriend affection behind the woman’s back. And when Kristian didn’t try to resist her sudden kiss and just seemed to go with the flow of things, it made things even better for her. Normalcy wasn’t something that Tabitha liked to conform to, which was probably why it only happened during school, which she also dreaded. Obviously, nothing about this growing relationship exactly fit the definition of normal. At least in that area, everything was all clear. Having to keep something like this from the woman just irked her for some reason, though. Of course, Tabitha knew that if her mother learned that she was with her step-sister behind her back, that she didn’t have much room to talk. Hell, she hadn’t learned about half of the men that her mom had attempted to date until she came home ranting about being dumped once again. If the woman ever found out and said something about having a secretive relationship, Tabitha knew that her mother was just the pot calling the kettle black. And knowing Tabitha, she’d point that out the second the woman would try to say anything. Bullshit, obviously, didn’t cross by her well at all.

As soon as her mother left the room, though, she wanted things to go back to exactly how they had been previously. Still, even though she wanted such a thing, she doubted that it would happen, thanks to the woman bursting into the kitchen without any warning. The whole time, Tabitha had realized that Kristian had been oddly quiet during the time her mother came in, not even saying word like she had the last time. Although, it was her mother, and she was the other’s girlfriend. Well, at least the whole “meet the family” part was done by now, hopefully. Thankfully, her father wasn’t anywhere nearby. Tabitha knew that the man would just embarrass her by saying something totally idiotic. Besides, with how unsure he still was about whether she was being truthful about her sexuality, she knew that he wouldn’t understand them dating anyways, step-sisters or not. Both father and daughter stubborn, sarcastic and lazy. No wonder just by their personality people could tell they were related.

Enjoying the time she was able to spend alone with the other, Tabitha was once again a bit upset when the two of them were separated. In reply to her girlfriend’s statement, she shook her head. ”I’m fine with it. Promise. Sort of,” she stated with a laugh. Cooking was just one thing that would probably never grab Tabitha’s full interest, but it didn’t that bad. There were worse things besides cooking that she could have been doing, anyways. Unpacking definitely lost when it came up against cooking, no matter how horrible her skills in the kitchen were. ”Yeah, how about telling that to our last microwave, eh?” Tabitha teased in reply. So maybe she was exaggerating on actually destroying a microwave, but it was possible with her lack of sense in the kitchen.

xDoubting that they would get home at a reasonable hour, Tabitha knew that she probably wasn’t going to be in the best of moods the next day. Of course, that was assuming that the two of them were able to sneak out and make it to the tree house unnoticed. Sneaking out was not something that she did often either. At the most, it hadn’t occurred successfully for Tabitha no more than half a dozen times. The rest were obviously failed attempts. Still, it seemed like her mother’s threats didn’t seem to affect her actions one bit. But, maybe now since she was remarried and wasn’t just alone in a house with her anymore, it would easier for such an act to be committed. Tabitha knew that if their plan succeeded, then she wasn’t going to be too hot in the morning. A lack of sleep never seemed to do any good to her, and she doubted that it was going to suddenly change tonight. It was just common knowledge within the family that once Tabitha was out, and that she was probably going to be out for at least the next few hours. Obviously, sleep was one thing she didn’t like to give up without a good fight.

”There’s no way in hell that I’d willingly have someone repeatedly using a needle to put ink practically in my skin. No way.” Nothing was really going to be able to change Tabitha’s stubborn thoughts on that topic. Needles were just something that she wasn’t too comfortable around. ”Oh, don’t dare call me boring. I’ve got plenty of tricks up my sleeve,” she teased. Teasing was obviously nothing that Tabitha minded much, especially when it ultimately led to the two of them kissing. And she knew that she couldn’t even deny it to herself that she didn’t enjoy every single one of the moments such as those. Even if it could have seemed quite lustful, it didn’t bother her much at all. Besides, they were in a relationship with each other. It would have been different if they were seeing other people, but that thankfully wasn’t the case.

Tabitha knew that if she even dared to try and bring the consent forms home for her mother to sign, the woman would be ready to kill her. Obviously, allowing her seventeen year old daughter to get a tattoo would be practically like admitting to murder in front of her. Still, that didn’t surprise her much at all. Tabitha knew enough about her mother’s family to know that she had been raised within a conservative home, which hadn’t worked so well in the woman’s case. Apparently, getting any sort of tattoo or piercing made still made her think, though, that her daughter was trying to force someone she had just met into becoming more fond of her. Luck for her mother, though, Tabitha couldn’t have been paid enough to give her permission to have a needle used on her in practically any method. But, god, it made some doctor’s visits hell, even though she was seventeen now. Of course, that was one thing Tabitha was sure to leave out. It was embarrassing enough to her, let alone the older woman.

”Of course. The one-way street barely anyone else in our school travels down,” she replied before her lips met Kristian’s for a moment. The kiss didn’t last long, but it was enough for Tabitha, or at least enough for the time being. Hearing the suggestion brought up, she couldn’t help but to laugh at it. Really, someone people could make songs about unrealistic relationships chart-topping hits, but somehow, Tabitha doubted that they were going to be able to anything like that. It was as if there weren’t enough corny love songs playing on the radio already. ”Sure. And once we finish that, I’ll find a good-looking guy, realize I’m not even remotely close to being gay and move to Vegas with him so we can get married,” Tabitha said sarcastically, attempting to mock the other in some way. Her not being a lesbian? Even the biggest fools in the school wouldn’t believe such blasphemy. It was virtually some law of nature that she was supposed to be attracted to women. And really, Tabitha wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

Of course, Tabitha couldn’t deny that there were plenty of cons to seemingly outweigh the pros of her so-called choice. If it wasn’t really much a choice, though, it wasn’t like she could just go off and change something such as her sexuality like that. Still, she knew that plenty of other people were going to treat her like she could do something about it. None of the derision she had received after practically coming out was a good experience, but it had died down, eventually at least. Besides, if she really going to listen to what everyone in the school told her, Tabitha probably would have been better off dead than alive then. That was teenagers, though, it seemed—caught within their own indignation and ignorance to believe that they had the right to judge anyone that wasn’t like them. Unfortunately, she knew that everyone judged everyone else in their own ways, though. Not even she could deny that she hadn’t judged someone at least a few times in her life.

”I hear you loud and clear on that one.” Tabitha cared for her mother, sure, but not how over-protective she was known to be from time to time. Only child or not, it just seemed absolutely idiotic to her that the woman still acted in such a way when she was practically an adult herself. Still, she doubted that she was going to let off the leash so easily, though. And with how her mother acted now, Tabitha was actually a bit worried about how the woman was going to react whenever she moved out. Apparently, there was no escaping being her mother’s so-called “baby”. And yet, that was another thing that Tabitha could have lived without. Well, at least the woman actually cared, no matter how much they seemed to butt heads.

The thoughts were stopped as soon as Kristian spoke again. Looking over at her girlfriend, Tabitha couldn’t help but to scowl for a moment. ”I’m not five, mind you. I’m perfectly able to make a sandwich by myself,” she pointed out to the other. And that was probably the only thing that she could really do in the kitchen without screwing something up. Hearing the comment of slaughtering one of the past microwaves, she shook her head and laughed. The statement sounded familiar, thanks to some of the more extremist religious people that lived in the town. ”Oh, please. According to this woman my mom knows, I was damned to hell the first time I ever wanted a girl in a “sexually mollifying” way. See you there, I guess, then?” she teased.

xTruthfully, Tabitha didn’t know how she was going to make it through school the next day. Sleeping throughout classes, and probably lunch, would be a common thing, but that didn’t really matter to her. One day of slacking off more than usual couldn’t possibly make her average grades plummet. If they did for some reason and her mother found out, she could find something or someone to blame it all on. Definitely not Kristian, but more than likely one of her friends that was known to call her cell phone at ungodly hours. Still, Tabitha knew that the lack of sleep that night would be absolutely worth it. All she really wanted was more time with her girlfriend, and that was what it was going to be. When it came to relationships, though, she didn’t know if they were supposed to even move as fast as theirs seemed to be or not. Tabitha just had to trust Kristian with the whole ordeal, and just hope that she wouldn’t just leave her with a broken heart. She doubted that the other would actually do something like that, but the thought still made its way through her mind, though.

Why didn’t it surprise her that her girlfriend was going to pick on her yet again? Of course, by now, Tabitha was used to the gestures, though. It wasn’t like she didn’t taunt the other in some way in return either. ”No they don’t!” she replied in a frustrated tone. Yeah right. That was why Tabitha was especially glad her mother wasn’t in the room with her at the time. The woman always proved her claims false when she was. Even if she lived Kristian and was going out with her, Tabitha didn’t exactly want her to know about the embarrassing times that the doctor’s office held. Her mother practically barricading the door, holding her down in some manner—the possibilities of what happened there were practically endless, and all over something as simple as a needle. ”Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Tabitha mumbled, brushing off the other’s mockery the best she could.

At least she knew better than to ever take some of their talking seriously. With all of the teasing that occurred, it was practically common sense to not take everything said to heart. It was an upside to their relationship that the two of them were able to joke around and not take everything said personally. And, finally, Tabitha had found someone that seemed to be able to put up with her constant, witty remarks. This was definitely a relationship that she didn’t mind being in and enjoyed, too. It seemed like it was all thanks to their parents getting married and having to move in with the other that made everything possible. Sure, there was the possibility that they still would have gotten together if their parents weren’t married and they would be in an open relationship, but with how things were now, what was occurring now seemed like the best. Besides, who knew, maybe if her mother hadn’t decided to marry Kristian’s father then she wouldn’t have had enough time to spend with her girlfriend in order to kiss her that first time. Somehow, Tabitha was able to doubt that they wouldn’t speak to each other nearly as much as were now if it wasn’t for all of this.

It was a bit comforting to know that Kristian was able to understand where she was coming from. It was almost like anyone who wasn’t straight was a part of an endangered species throughout the town. That had proved to be one of the more irritating parts of being out, but that was bound to happen practically anywhere you went now, though. There seemed to be more so-called bisexuals and such around the school than honest to god ones. Apparently, something about a girl pretending to swing some other way to was found to be attractive by some guys. Obviously, the girls around the school were desperate for a guy just to get into his pants for a night or two. It always seemed to be those same people that spread the nasty rumors whenever someone was serious about coming out as bisexual or gay, though. According to them, Tabitha spent her time trying to check out girls and trying to come onto any of them that got close enough to her. Really, they expected the one that rarely spoke to anyone she was unfamiliar with to suddenly become promiscuous just because she wasn’t straight? Oh, she would never really understand how those girls and the others’ minds worked.

”Somebody’s jealous,” Tabitha teased the other in a sing-song voice. So, the joking plan of meeting a guy and getting hitched to him wasn’t too great to Kristian. Thankfully, both of them knew that her one way street pointed only towards girls. Wrapping her arms loosely around the others neck, Tabitha pulled herself closer to her girlfriend in order to kiss her. ”Better?” she muttered as she pulled back, the combination of her girlfriend’s last statement and the kiss making the familiar tint return to her face. And, of course, she still wasn’t tired of any of the teasing or showing of affection that ensued between herself and Kristian. Tabitha just hoped that the other knew enough to know that she didn’t want to break up with her, especially so soon. Messing with someone’s emotions wasn’t something that she wanted to do, and she was sure that the other wouldn’t do such a thing to her either.

Tabitha didn’t want it all to end. How was she supposed to even live her ex anyways? Didn’t most exes try to practically kill each other over something stupid? Of course, that did also sound like two step-sisters who couldn’t get along for a few seconds to save their lives. That wasn’t what she wanted to happened, though. Not even in the very least. At least if they weren’t together as girlfriends, they could at least get along as just friends. Of course, life had already thrown plenty of surprises her way, and Tabitha wasn’t too prepared for one unlike that to come along any time soon. Besides, if their relationship did end, it was bound to bring her down to some extend. With her mother, it would probably take the woman little to no time at all to realize that something was wrong with her. Every time she tried to make herself at home within the more personal parts of her life, Tabitha had to frequently remind herself that her mother was only doing it because she cared. Still, somehow she was able to believe that her relationship with Kristian would be one thing that the woman wouldn’t care so much for.

”I don’t know. Does ‘best’ and ‘burnt to a crisp’ go together in your book?” Seeing that the other had rolled her eyes due to her reply, Tabitha couldn’t help but to laugh slightly. She had heard remarks that enough by now to just brush them off and make some pathetic joke out of them. Of course, she wasn’t exactly sure if Kristian did this or took it seriously. Hopefully, she knew that she was just joking with her words. ”It’s good to know that I won’t have to try and find a replacement for you,” Tabitha mumbled as her arms slipped down the other and held onto her hips gently. ”You’re lucky you don’t have to find someone else, you know. It’s hard for someone to even come close to matching my extraordinary wit and charm.” From the smirk on her face, it was apparent that she was joking about having some sort of replacement. It was just another one of their infamous talks, which always seemed to have some of the oddest topics. Oh, well. Normalcy just seemed like something that neither of them really enjoyed.

xTruthfully, school wasn’t a subject that Tabitha liked to dwell on much, yet now she couldn’t seem to get rid of her thoughts on the place. Still, having more time with her girlfriend was worth it. Staying up was bound to be difficult for her, though, and the consequences of staying up would to her in the morning. That much was what Tabitha was sure of. Really, if she got a one-way ticket to detention, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to her. It wasn’t like she hadn’t gotten one of those a few times throughout her time in high school, which never did make her mother too happy. Tabitha knew the woman was just as rash as she could become, though. Like mother, like daughter definitely applied to quite a few of the common aspects of their personalities, as well as their looks, much as she denied it. Of course, Tabitha had to admit that living with the woman for seventeen and with the fact that they were mother and daughter, some things about them were bound to be similar. And with how aloof her father could be, maybe that was best.

”They don’t,” she whined in reply. Obviously, Tabitha wasn’t too keen on just admitting the truth about her little ordeal. Admitting any sort of defeat wasn’t something that she necessarily enjoyed, and this wasn’t the exception. Tabitha was a girl that was too stubborn to just simply accept the fact that the other probably knew more about her issues than she wished. Truthfully, it probably wasn’t that bad for Kristian to know such things about her, but she wanted to hang onto some of her dignity at least. ”We just have screwy fears, don’t we?” she asked, a slight amused tone lingering in her voice. Well, at least she was able to make fun herself from time to time. Knocking over a television seemed like something drastic, but so wasn’t trying to get out of the doctor’s office in any possible as if you were still five. Tabitha knew that her mother somehow found her actions to be comical, though. The woman knew that her daughter was only embarrassing herself with her childish actions.

Still, the thought of embarrassment didn’t really prevent Tabitha from acting out. At this point, she knew her mother was ready to doubt that she still had the fear, though, it was doubtful she would go as far as did sometimes if she was only acting. With her habits, Tabitha knew that her mother didn’t know fact from fiction when it came to her life. And, really, her fear of something so simple was absolutely no act. She shook her head slightly as she rid herself of the thoughts, or at least cleared her mind of them for a bit. The last thing she wanted was for anyone else to try and hold something like her fears over her head. Truthfully, Tabitha had found it bad enough when people had tried to use her sexuality against her, and show how she figured her fears could be used in a similar manner. Of course, with her fears, she highly doubted that guys would have some higher interest in her for them. The girls, well, either way, Tabitha knew that besides a handful of them, they would just use it against her in some way. Really, it just proved how much drama that high school had and how senseless it could truly be.

It was ironic that it seemed to be the same girls that had a superficial interest in other girls were the same ones that chose to pick on her. By now, Tabitha knew better than to take any of their taunting to heart, though. They knew that she wasn’t going to even think of doing anything back to them; it was too obvious that such a thing wasn’t something she would actually do. Tabitha knew that fighting with people like them weren’t worth getting in trouble for, though. Besides, with what only seemed like so little time left until graduating, the trouble didn’t seem worthwhile at all. She wasn’t one to be known as a whorish type, and she didn’t want someone to try and twist the truth if she was caught making some remark to them about their issues with sex, which were practically addictions. Sex wasn’t something Tabitha found to be necessary within a relationship unless it was a concrete commitment. Even if church wasn’t something she was a fan of, some of the morals had still stuck with her over the years. At least when it came to her relationship with Kristian, not everything had to be so serious. Being too serious in a relationship just seemed to make it more of a hassle than something that someone could enjoy.

”Sure you weren’t jealous; you just acted possessive for no absolute reason,” Tabitha teased her girlfriend. She knew that the other had been jealous of even the thought of her being with a guy—even though something like that would never happen—just by Kristian’s response. Momentarily, Tabitha bit her lip as she felt the other’s finger skimmed across her cheek. God, didn’t she know that she helping a bit when it came to her blushing? It wouldn’t have surprised her if the other did know, but Tabitha couldn’t help to enjoy the feeling a bit, as flustered as she was becoming. At least it was obvious that her girlfriend at least cared about her, thanks to expressing how she didn’t want anyone else’s hands on her. If that didn’t mean that they would make it awhile in this relationship, then she really didn’t know what else could.

All Tabitha really wanted was for their relationship to last. It seemed better to her to mentally to refer Kristian as her girlfriend rather than her ex. It just seemed like ‘ex’ held a much more negative side to what they had. At this point, it didn’t matter much what happened, just as long as they were still together. It just seemed better to keep a more optimistic mindset during this all of this, though. Even if it did end, they didn’t have to act like mortal enemies, right? At least Tabitha hoped that they didn’t. If a relationship as girlfriends didn’t work out between them, she still wanted them to at least have a friendship. Besides, they were stuck in the same house as each other for awhile, anyways.

”I’m not, just as long as I can pay attention.” And asking Tabitha to pay complete attention to a single thing seemed virtually impossible. Of course, maybe if no one else was around, it would be an easier task, but that didn’t seem like it was going to happen anytime soon. For now, it seemed like she had better luck using the microwave than a stove, seeing as the latter didn’t require too much maintenance. ”You really should avoid those stereotypes people give me, Kristian, or at least stop assuming things about me. Because, I mean, obviously I’m not that quiet or gullible.” Feeling the other’s arms slip around her neck, Tabitha leaned closer to Kristian, tightening her grip on her slightly. Hearing the other’s sarcasm, she couldn’t help but to roll her eyes in a bit of a reply. ”Of course you are, especially since Tabitha is such a popular name nowadays,” she replied in a slight mocking manner. This would never seem to get old.

xHaving at least five days of the week occupied with schoolwork and such wasn’t something that Tabitha was too fond of. She wanted to spend more time with Kristian, and only two days—at the most—didn’t seem like it would ever be enough to keep her content for a week of school. Tabitha knew that the only times they would be able to see each other would be between their classes and during the classes that they had together, if they even had that. Obviously, she was going to be determined to try and go out of her way in order to at least attempt to speak to the other before it was time for them to be in their classes. Of course, she could always be late or skip a class or two that day, too. Tabitha doubted that her mother would be happy if she received a phone call from the school thanks to skipping class. If that happened, she knew that her mother wouldn’t be satisfied with just another one of her excuses that she used when trouble seemed to call her name from time to time.

”Just shut up, pass go and collect your two-hundred ******** dollars,” Tabitha grumbled softly as she rested herself against the other. Seeing the smirk that had made its way onto Kristian’s face, she scowled slightly as another sign of her slight irritation towards the matter. Whether the other had caught onto the fact that she was admitting defeat in some way or not, she didn’t really care. Tabitha knew that her mother was able to read her emotions and body language like a book, but of course, that was probably because the woman was her mother and had raised her. If Kristian was able to catch onto it, then that would be quite the surprise to her. As far as she was concerned, though, just as long as didn’t verbally admit to some sort of defeat, then it wasn’t as bad.

Hearing the terms that her girlfriend had set up, Tabitha nodded while laughing more-so towards herself. ”Fine, I promise. You just better hold up your end of the deal, missy,” Tabitha stated in some sort of attempt to act stern and collected with her words. Obviously, that didn’t last too long for her. At least the idea of the other being there with her was somewhat comforting. Somehow, Tabitha was just able to assume that her girlfriend’s way of calming her down would be less hectic and embarrassing as her mother’s methods. She couldn’t really expect much less from the woman, though. Apparently, through everything that she did, she was trying to teach her some sort of life lesson. That didn’t seem to be something that was working for her mother, though. The only thing she had ever seemed to pick up from the woman was her temper and a bit of her paranoid ways. Tabitha never saw or really wanted to point out the similarities that they truly did share, which were constantly denied by anyone who wanted to stupidly bring the subject up during a conversation.

Of course, the morals that the woman had found important had been preached to her. Even if she didn’t exactly consider herself to be the type to have a true religion or anything of the sort, Tabitha knew that the morals that the woman found it important for her to go by were linked to her mother’s more religious ways. Just as long as she didn’t get the idea to try and force her to go to church—especially after coming out—Tabitha was fine with whatever religion her mother wanted to consider herself a part of. Tabitha had to at least admit that some parts of religion did make some sort of sense to her. Waiting until you knew you were committed to a person before having many sort of sex was a major thing she went by. As much as she was sure half of the church her mother attended thought that she was some pagan god worshipping lesbian, they didn’t expect her to have morals like their own. It was enough proof to show that the woman knew how to keep her in line, or at least to make her think that she was in line.

Seeing the other scowl and then proceed to stick her tongue out, Tabitha shook her head and laughed. When the other’s finger ran across her cheek, her emotions were unsettled, and just seemed to remain that way. Every single time she blushed it seemed to happen, and the feelings it brought her were ones that she couldn’t describe well. All Tabitha knew was that she enjoyed them, even if other people wouldn’t think so highly of their relationship. ”Either way, I find it sexy,” she stated in a slightly teasing manner. Tabitha couldn’t help but to enjoy the slight possessiveness that Kristian had seemed to hold previously; at least that was more of a sure-fire sign that the two of them were going somewhere, or at least staying together for a bit.

The fact that their relationship was one that wasn’t all work and no play helped reassure Tabitha more that their relationship was still going good for now. Being too serious wasn’t something that she could handle well, especially with her ways of wanting to speak her mind, whether anyone really wanted to hear her witty remarks or not. Besides, it wasn’t like she hadn’t received a few of those from her girlfriend. She was just glad that they both could agree on things so easily, which seemed to lessen the risk of fighting over something completely senseless. Tabitha knew that if they still ended up breaking up for some reason, her feelings for Kristian wouldn’t leave her so easily. No, she cared too much—especially now—to just give up all of her feelings for the other girl as if she never had any interest in her before.

”Give me a few, and I’ll have one,” Tabitha mumbled in a slight sarcastic tone. It was obvious to her that she was being teased once again, but it didn’t seem to faze her as teasing, though. This was all more like a form of flirting with each other rather than a way to rudely point out things about each other. ”Are you saying that you thought I was a dumbass? When Kristian stated that she thought that someone needed to label her as a chatterbox, it was tempting for Tabitha to laugh at such a thing. It was true that she did become quite chatty when she grew closer to someone, though. ”Me a chatterbox? No way. I barely talk at school. When I do, it’s to the small group of people I call my friends.” When she leaned her body against the other’s, Tabitha couldn’t help but to love it all. Sure, the kitchen wasn’t a romantic spot either, but it was better than having absolutely no place to be together at all. ”Eh, my parents had the bright idea to name me Irene. Yeah, my mom changed that when she found out that it meant peaceful. Let’s just say that I was quite a kicker, according to her. Ironically, though, Tabitha and Elizabeth are both names related more to the Bible. It’s so unfitting, right?”

xTwo days was enough to have alone with Kristian, or at least that was what Tabitha was trying to convince herself into believing. Truthfully, if she had to power to, it would be more like seven days a week instead of a mere two. Of course, she didn’t really doubt that she’d try to find some way to be around the other more during school. Besides, it wasn’t like her friends weren’t already aware that she was known to keep more to herself every once in a while though. If they felt the need to try and pick into her personal life, using that as some sort of excuse was good enough for Tabitha. They all knew that she and Kristian were step-sisters now, which would hopefully stop them from questioning a sudden friendship between the two of them. With how quiet she ended up being during school, it wasn’t likely that would ever believe that someone like her had gotten together with the one that she now called her girlfriend.

Hearing the other’s playful remark, Tabitha rolled her eyes with a short sigh. ”And what was your first clue, Sherlock?” she questioned in reply. Knowing Kristian, she would probably attempt to answer the question, even if she had intended for it to be rhetorical. At least the subject of her own fears had seemed to blow over by this point in time. If it wasn’t enough for the actual visits to be practically the same as child abuse to Tabitha, having the experiences replay in her head wasn’t any more pleasing. Soon after, the slight scowl that had once been on Tabitha’s face had become a small smile. Getting upset over a joke wasn’t really in her nature, unless it was out of spite, but she knew much better than to lead herself to believe that Kristian was using her teasing as a form of derision. If said actions weren’t just something to fully grab her attention—as if her girlfriend didn’t have it already, though—Tabitha knew that the girl was doing it in order to flirt.

Well, at least knowing that the other was going to hold up the end of her deal was reassuring. Either that, or Kristian was going to have enough material to use in teasing her for the rest of her life if she still couldn’t calm down. ”You’re acting like I can’t keep a promise,” she teased, the smile on her face shifting into a small smirk. Of course, she had never made a promise to keep such a deal, but it wasn’t like she was promising to do something absolutely stupid, though. Catching what her girlfriend had mumbled, Tabitha’s smirk was easily replaced by a look proving her slight puzzlement. ”Are you saying you prefer the television over me, eh?” Of course, such actions were just one of her many portals that she used in order to flirt with her girlfriend. Leaning closer, Tabitha kept her lips centimeters away from Kristian, as if daring her to try and make their lips meet once again. ”I think you know what I prefer,” she mumbled, kissing the other briefly before pulling back. Nope. She’d never get tired of the teasing and what it always seemed to lead to.

Being able to lean against the other was enough for Tabitha, or at least for now. Maybe it was the fact that she was so close to someone that she actually cared about that made it so different than being in the same situation with other girls. Now, she found it reassuring that she wasn’t the only teenager in the house. God knew that her mother was supportive of her, but despite her claims of knowing what she was going through and understanding about how things were for teenagers, Tabitha knew that was complete bullshit. The woman had never been with a girl, let alone think that she wasn’t straight. Tabitha knew she had good intentions, but it was hard to buy what her mother said, especially with the fact that she would probably never fully comprehend what was going on in her life. And that was just another reason that she was glad to have Kristian. At least when issues came up about sexuality or having some sort issue with parents and religion, the other would actually understand where the hell she was coming from.

Hearing what Kristian said in reply, Tabitha laughed softly, making a note of the blush that had made its way onto the other’s face. Leaning in closer once again, she pressed her lips back against her girlfriend’s. Tightening the grip she had around the other’s hips, Tabitha kissed Kristian passionately, eventually forcing herself to break away. ”How was that for sexy, hm?” she questioned in a soft tone, familiarly resting her head against the other.

At least this relationship was going in the right direction. With everything that was between them, Tabitha doubted that it end easily between the two of them. Still, the worry that one of their parents would catch them would always linger in her mind no matter what. Of course, she at least wanted some sort of friendship with Kristian if their relationship didn’t work out like she hoped it would. Living with an ex that had plenty of spite against her was one of the last things that Tabitha wanted to happen. Lifting her head back up, she smiled in return as soon as she noticed the one that had appeared onto her girlfriend’s face. She had a good feeling that neither of them were going to let this relationship go down without one hell of a fight.

”Hey! I moved here. Shouldn’t you be cooking me dinner, Kristian?” And still, the teasing didn’t get old. If any of it slipped out, at least her mother would easily be tricked into thinking that it was only her ever-present sarcasm and wit just showing off as it usually did. Realizing the other had called her beautiful once again, the blush that had faded moments earlier returned to her complexion. Noting its return, Tabitha mentally cursed the reaction, as if it was some sort of sin. ”Great,” she mumbled sarcastically. ”What a lesbian and her mom can’t be Christians anymore? Well, I'm close enough to being a Christian. God damn. Times have changed.”

xTabitha was looking forward to being able to spend more time with Kristian. She knew that her mother was bound to lecture her during dinner or sometime that evening, if the woman didn’t forget about her little bit of showing out that had occurred earlier. It seemed like her mother was determined to at least straighten up her attitude even slightly, but after a few years of trying, obviously Tabitha wasn’t going to conform to what the woman wanted. It seemed like every time she tried to ignore her mother, though, her lectures just ended up becoming longer and longer each time. Every time that happened, it also seemed like she was trying to embarrass her more in public, too. Still, Tabitha knew that her mother was doing it out of love, or at least she hoped so. Wasn’t pretty much a parent’s job to embarrass their kids in anyway possible? It just appeared like that, but Tabitha figured that she had to bring the woman attention that she always didn’t want. God, she couldn’t be thankful enough that her mother had handled the fact that she was a lesbian well. If the other hadn’t handled it too well, there was no doubt in her mind that she would demand to move in with her father. If that would have happened, Tabitha knew that none of this ever would have had a chance to happen.

Bringing up the man, Tabitha figured that it would probably be best to call him sometime before the night was over. Although, at that moment, Kristian had her preoccupied and slipping away from the other wasn’t something she wanted to do unless it was necessary. Realizing that her girlfriend was attempting to answer her mocking question, Tabitha shook her head with a small laugh. ”You know that you didn’t have to actually answer that, right?” she replied teasingly. Of course, something about the other having a more serious tone in her words just seemed a tad odd to Tabitha. It was Kristian, so she was expecting at least a little more teasing or something. With all that was going on, though, she couldn’t really blame her if her focus had trailed off elsewhere.

”I was kidding. Don’t get too worked up over it.” Obviously, the other was somewhere else besides their conversation. With witnessing how short her girlfriend’s attention could be earlier, Tabitha really didn’t mind. Besides, it wasn’t like what she was going on about was a life or death matter. No, Tabitha was just making more attempts at flirting with Kristian, which was nothing new at all. Hearing what the other had to say, she couldn’t help but to grin a bit when she heard her girlfriend’s reply. ”Good. We’re on the same page, then,” she stated calmly. It was tempting to press her lips back against Kristian’s for even the smallest moment, but she knew there was always a chance that their parents would make themselves welcome in the room.

Tabitha knew that her mother could possibly mistake her embracing Kristian just as a sign that she was growing too attached to the friendship they had. Obviously to the two of them, it was more than that, but if her mother wanted to think of them as friends, then that wasn’t too bad either. Tabitha couldn’t help but to despise the fact that her mother claimed that she was too clingy, even for her age. That wasn’t how she acted, or at least when the woman wasn’t around. Hanging around with her mother just seemed to attract the town’s biggest homophobes, though. It wasn’t her fault that half of those other women irritated her to no end and that her mother wouldn’t let her tell them off. Clinging to the woman like she was still an ignorant child was the best she could ever do to express her distaste for those that seemed to try and approach them. How the woman was able to handle the talk that went around the town about them, Tabitha didn’t know and doubted that she would never know such a thing.

Still, she figured that either way, just as long as they weren’t doing anything that screamed that they were in a relationship, her mother wouldn’t suspect a thing. Truthfully, she knew that the woman wanted her to make more friends, thanks to the claims she had heard from her before. For all Tabitha cared, the other could take it as the fact that they had some so-called sisterly relationship going on between them, but just as long as she didn’t think they were in a relationship, she didn’t really care. Besides, it wasn’t that Tabitha wasn’t the type to be too sociable—which she had been proving to be correct lately—but it was the bit of worry and insecurity that always seemed to get to her.

It seemed as she spent more time with Kristian, the more she was getting used to being around her and not really trying to hold back what was on her mind. Tabitha didn’t doubt that if their parents hadn’t have gotten married, then there was probably a good possibly that the two of them wouldn’t even be together. Now, just the idea of wanting to kiss her girlfriend wasn’t nearly as odd as it used to be for her to process. Tabitha knew that the idea of being in a relationship was growing on her greatly, and she enjoyed it. But now, she figured that the mixture of feelings that came with kissing the other were just the effect of whatever she felt towards the other. Love definitely didn’t seem to fit the situation, or at least not that this point. To Tabitha, it seemed too early to even consider admitting even to herself that she was possibly in love with someone. Obviously, she liked Kristian more than she did most people that she chose to associate with, though. That definitely had to be something, and with the fact that she wanting this relationship to last, Tabitha figured that her feelings couldn’t be that bad.

”I feel truly loved and appreciated now,” she mumbled sarcastically with a small smirk on her face. Hearing what Kristian had to stay next, Tabitha sighed before feeling the other’s touch against her lips. ”You’re such a liar. You know you love it,” she teased in reply as soon as her girlfriend’s thumb ceased running across her lips. By now, Tabitha didn’t know whether the other was trying to make her blush purposely or not, but if she was, it was obviously working. No matter how many times the other seemed to do something to compliment her or otherwise, it seemed like the action always made her meek personality dominant. Noting what the other had claimed about Christians, she couldn’t help but to scowl slightly. ”Stereotype. Most of my friends are Christians, and they’re supportive of me and my other gay friends. And, I mean, my mom has never tried to force me to think I was “lost and needed to become straight” or threaten me with a promise to hell due to being a lesbian. She’s a Christian, too. Not all of them have the same morals, obviously.” Sighing roughly, Tabitha couldn’t help but to lean back against Kristian, wrapping one arm around her neck loosely. ”Oh, by the way, I’m the only one allowed to call my mom a b***h, alright?” she said jokingly, making some attempt at remaining serious with that statement.

                        x”Bren.”

Something so simple wasn’t going to wake the girl, no matter how much of an insomniac she was. Sleep wasn’t something that Brennan seemed to get much of anymore, so it was no real surprise to her that she was actually relieved to be able to finally rest a bit easier for once. It hadn’t been one of her usual restless time of sleeping that occurred too many times for her to possibly keep up with. The only sign that her body wasn’t just a lifeless shell was the slight rising and falling of her chest. Still, sleeping in this late wasn’t normal for Brennan; it wasn’t normal in the least bit.

                        ”Brennan, wake up!”

The bit of frustration and then the worry that her father’s tone held had her worrying. The questions seemed to attack her conscious ruthlessly, leaving no part of her train of thought unscathed. Was she still in her room? Had she taken too many pills last night? Had she finally been brought down from an overdose? Was it was possible that she was lying in a hospital barely hanging on to dear life? Those weren’t thoughts that Brennan wanted to come to her mind at that moment, or ever really. Just those unpleasant thought made her wake up quicker than she ever thought was possible from her. Brennan’s sudden movements caused more worry within her father, who then was relieved moments later that his daughter had finally woken up.

”Bren, what’s wrong?” her father stated in a worrisome manner.

”…I-It was just a bad dream,” Brennan mumbled in reply, her voice’s tone practically blank.

She had been expecting herself to wake up in a recovery room or hospital room. Thankfully, that hadn’t been the case. Still, her relief wasn’t obvious in the least. Truthfully, nothing dealing with her emotions was too obvious at that moment besides the fact that it was almost like Brennan had none. Without ecstasy, she didn’t. Whenever that hit of the drug was, it had obviously worn off and left her craving for more. It was an addiction—an addiction no one would ever learn of, as far as she was concerned. Her reputation was too clean for anyone to suspect her of doing drugs, which in turn made it to where her father probably trusted her a bit too much. Maybe if she hadn’t of been so trusted, she never would have ever gone to that party and never would have taken ecstasy that first time. That wasn’t reality, though, that was only the fantasy that Brennan wished would become true. She was just the empty shell of the person that she used to be. That was all that she amounted up to now.

It seemed like hours until her father left the room. Obviously, the man was over-protective of her, thanks to the fact that she was the youngest of his children. She knew that the fact that she was his only daughter didn’t help with his worrisome ways either. Brennan knew why she was acting so impatient mentally about her father leaving her room already. All she wanted to do was to pop a couple of ecstasy and let them kick in. And that was exactly what Brennan did the moment she knew that her father had left the room and continued about his own business. Never would he suspect that she did such a thing, nor did he snoop around looking for pills or any sort of illegal substances hidden among her belongings. This seemed to be the only true advantage as being known as a goody-two-shoe, for sure.

Brennan didn’t really want to get up, go to school or anything of that sort, but what kind of image would that be putting off? Sure, there were the rare occasions when she wasn’t at school due to illness, but just plain skipping school was out of her nature completely. Besides, she wasn’t going to make it to where her father didn’t trust her now, not with her drug usage. His ignorance to what was truly going on within her life was something that Brennan enjoyed, as twisted as such a thing sounded even to her. She knew that her father was going to make his way to work soon, and that just made it even more tempting to just try and go back asleep for another hour or so. Still, her reputation always won this battle, and today wasn’t the exception to that.

It seemed like Brennan could point every little thing that was already wrong with the day. That was what the lack of ecstasy seemed to do to her at this point. Without it, she was absolutely lacking emotion and seemed to have a more pessimistic side. Still, that didn’t stop her from finally forcing herself to get out of bed and start her usual morning routine. Shower, try to do something with her almost unruly hair, and attempt to put in her contacts. Although, the latter of those steps was replaced with simply just putting her glasses on, seeing that patience didn’t seem to be with her today. A moment after making her way out of the bathroom, towel still wrapped around her body, Brennan heard the front door close. That was one advantage of having a quiet house, which was even more so now thanks to her older brother being off at college. Of course, ever since her mother had just gotten up and left her family as if they were nothing, her brother being off at college was probably an event that Brennan had taken harder than it ever even needed to be. Even after the few years it had been, the divorce of her parents still seemed to take quite a toll on her life. Never would Brennan admit to such a thing, though. Never.

As she made her way back to her bedroom, things started seeming a bit brighter, and Brennan knew exactly why. As soon as she had put on what she planned to wear and had everything that she needed, she left for school. Even if she did have her license, that didn’t necessarily mean that Brennan really drove anywhere. Truthfully, she didn’t really have anywhere to drive, except for the weekends of course. The fact that she lacked friends seemed to save her father the trouble of them arguing over who needed the car and when. And thankfully, the walk to school wasn’t a long one. There were definitely some advantages that came with living close to the school sometimes. By the time she walked out of the house, it was as if she had never been in any sort of depressing mood that morning. Brennan knew that the high was only going to last for a few hours, though, thanks to her experiences. Then, it was right back to being within another experience in her life that seemed to be heading towards another all-time low.

School seemed to be going as it seemed to go every day, at least until she got a text. At the exact same time, everyone else within the school, or at least those around her as far as she knew had also received one. Was that too unusual with teenagers, though? Not really, but something just seemed a bit off about it. Brennan knew that no one ever texted her: the only ones that even contacted her frequently on her cell phone were her father and older brother, and either of them tended to text. It was probably just someone who had gotten the wrong number, which was known to happen from time to time. Instead, it was a text that was instructed the receivers to look at a computer. This had to be the wrong number. Something drew Brennan to one of the nearby computers, though. It was definitely a bit of curiosity, and also the fact that she might be in on something that very few people knew of.

Brennan regretted even showing her face at school that day the moment the blog appeared on the computer’s screen and read over it two or three consecutive times. She knew who the Goody-Two-Shoes that was pointed out in this blog was: her. Even the rest of the people that were pointed out within this blog were people that she could identify. How could they even know her secrets out of all of the people in the school? For the most part, associating with others wasn’t something that happened often at all anymore. They had to be bluffing, they just had to be. A part of Brennan told her otherwise; there was always a chance that someone within the student body had ended up seeing her at some party sleeping with someone or popping pills. Now, everything she knew was going to crash down right before her if this person really did know all of the dirt that she had covered up for the past while. No one could know that she was a drug addict. No one could know that she was a lesbian. No one could know that she had a thing for sleeping around with other women. They just couldn’t, but they seemed to. She didn’t want to end up in some damned rehab center. Brennan Harris couldn’t end up in a place like that. Ever.

Date of entry: Feb. 21st, 2011

Hello students of Shyloe. You all may be wondering what is going on. It’s actually quite simple, really. How much do we know about our friends? The people we look up to? I don’t know about you but I intend to find out, and I want you to know too. Secrets are no fun, really. But I find exposing them is.

We all have something to hide. But after today, some of you will be exposed as the real people you are.

Maybe you know them? The Queen? Or maybe The Ace? What about The Dreamer, The Artist, or The Singer? How about The King or the Lovely Lady? Maybe The Teacher, The Princess, The Class Clown, or The Nerd? Or maybe even The Goody-Two-Shoes, The Rebellious New Kid, or The Gamer Geek?

I’m sure you know at least one.

Have fun watching all you know disappear before your eyes.

                        Yours truly,

Backing away from the computer in slight shock, Brennan made her way to her locker. As much as she tried to ignore the stares from people, it just didn’t work. It seemed natural that they would curious about what kind of dirt the goody two shoes of the school could possibly have.

Not even all of the ecstasy in the world could cure this worry for Brennan.
