- "For the last time, Travis, you cannot come with us!" Looking down at her younger ten-year-old brother, she gave him a stern stare. She wasn't about to let the last important person in her life come with them on a mission to the hospital, where... where there were souls. Evil souls, that did nothing but invade a human's body for themselves. Shuttering at the thought, the twenty-one year old human looked at her brother again, this time with a weak smile. "Travis, I'm sorry, but for now just head over to school. I don't want you to be late." As she watched her younger brother go, Kristen crossed her arms. Shaking her head, she decided that it was time to walk to the hospital wing of the cave. Dressed in some dark clothing, she began the minute walk to the clinic.
Long before, the O'connors were brought underground, life on earth was peaceful. Everything was great. But not for long. When the brunette was sixteen, an alien race took over the world. One by one she watched her mother, father, and her oldest sister turn into zombies. Even though they still looked the same, they were different. It was so different, that her own family forgot who she and Travis were. There was also the fact that every now or then Kristi would see something that was somewhat like a silver thread swimming behind their eyes, which made her realize that it wasn't safe at her own house anymore. Packing her most important belongings, she took Travis, who was five at the time, with her. She drove to the outskirts of town. Kristen didn't know where she was going, just as long as she could run away. After days of driving, they finally ran out of gas in the middle of a desert. With no more water, or food, she thought it was going to be the end of her life. The sixteen-year-old began to feel guilty for even trying to save her brother, when there was no hope left in the world. She too, would probably become one of the invaders. Just like how her family did. What were minutes, seemed like days to the duo. Out in the deserts, they sat. Kristi wanted to get up and start walking, but Travis told her that they should stay. Taking his advice, the duo noticed a dune buggy in the distance. As it got closer, thoughts of fear filled her head. What if it were the aliens? If they got caught what was going to happen. The next thing she knew, everything went blank.
The girl woke up to bright hospital lights. It took a while for Kristen to get used to the fact that people had rescued her and had taken her underground. Though, as years went by Kristen grew older, wiser, and more alert around her surroundings.
The moment she walked inside the hospital cave, she realized that everyone was silent. The doctor sat smoking a cigarette, while the rest of her team lounged around. "Should we get going?" The brunette's statement startled everyone in the room. "Jesus, Kristen. God, give us all ******** heart attacks, why don't you." The doctor stated, while she watching him stuff his cigarette in an ashtray. "Don't tell me you guys chickened out?" The brunette crossed her arms, and smirked towards the guys. "O-Of course not!" The next thing she knew everyone was running out of the clinic and towards the garage. Their main purpose was the get the right medicine in order to help the patients. If they failed, then the humans would have to figure out a way to handle the dead.
As everyone got into the car, the brunette took the front seat. "So, do we know who's going to go into the hospital and retrieve the meds?" The whole group looked around at each other, until all stares were on her. "You've got to be shitting me. Me?" Kristen heaved a deep breath. "You guys can't be serious. Have you seen those, those aliens?! They have like this silver thread that swims behind their eyes. Does it look like I have that?" She hissed her words at her partners. After that, everything grew silent.
AFTER ONE LONG RIDE LATER...
Looking out the window, Kristen noticed that they were a few miles away from the clinic. Glancing behind her shoulders, she noticed the rest of the guys had fallen asleep. The doctor, however, who was driving remained silent. Placing her hands on the lap, the girl noticed a sign that stated that they were just about two miles away from the hospital. Recalling the even that took place before, she knew for a fact that they couldn't be serious. She wouldn't even bother to go inside. Not with all of those aliens around. There was no way in hell that was going to happen. Kristen would probably be killed if she went inside, or ******** worst turned into one of those damned aliens. As they passed by some people walking across the street. She noticed one particular that stood out to her. "Doc, pull over." He ignored her comment. "I said, Doc, pull over!" This time she forced her hands on the wheels and pulled over to the side, until she faced the boy.
Looking up at his eyes, she immediately noticed the silver thread. "Hey, would you be interested in helping us?" The twenty-one year old asked with a smile plastered on her face.
