As a little girl, Larissa Lang never knew anything else but lies and deceit. ‘Play the good little girl now’ her mother would always say. Her parents pretend to display the image of the perfect family; they pretended there was full of love and laughter. But the reality was grim, her mother was cold and manipulating and her father was deceiving and hateful, it was a wonder they didn’t bite each other’s heads off. So when she had to, Larissa would put on her fake smiles, her whole family would share laughter’s and the public would buy into the crap. At the end of the day, the little girl had nothing, nothing but her brother. He was the only one she ever cared about. Even now. As she grew up, her father loved to drown on and on with boring life lessons, but there was only one that let her see the truth. The world was harsh and cold, if you didn’t match its cruelty, you’ll get caught in the pain.

Was it a wonder that she wasn't nice? That she was cruel and deceiving? Her parents weren’t the blame here, Larissa learnt to stand for herself, she change but maybe not for the better. She stopped playing the ‘good girl’ because there was no need to fear her parents anymore, they were cowards and she could play their little game of lies just as well. But her parents do deserve a bit of credit; they taught her well. Taught her to build the house that no one would anticipate a need for, they taught her to look two moves ahead before taking the first step. It was only fit that Larissa would come to rule Constance Billard as their ruthless queen.

The shrill sound of her alarm broke through her reverie and the infinite silence that filled her room. Larissa stretched her arm and slammed her fist on snooze. She stared up at the ceiling; sleep had never come. She had spent the night flipping through magazines and surfing the web. She tossed her covers away from her body, the cold seeping in. She shivered slightly and opened her drapes, letting the cruel brightness of the sun illuminate her room. She peered outside, fifth avenue was already bustling with movement; car's slowly making there way through the traffic and people walking gingerly along the sidewalk. Larissa sighed and walked towards the bathroom, she snatched her towel on the way and stripped off her pj's. She was walking through the motions of morning, where she’d get up, take a shower, get ready and then get her much needed dose of caffeine. There was absolutely nothing more dull then mornings.

Larissa let the warm water run down her body, all her thoughts washed away and she felt re-energized. It was a shame when she stepped out, the sudden cold made her teeth clatter. Larissa briskly wrapped a towel around her and tip-toed to her closet. Her hair cascaded down her back as she dropped the towel to the ground. She quickly picked out an outfit and dressed herself. It never took long to get ready, she didn't need to. She walked to her vanity mirror; applied her mascara and foundation, she never put too much make up. With a quick scan, she was satisfied with what she saw. She wore a black pencil skirt and a pale yellow blouse with ruffles in the front. She let her hair air dry today; they were already forming into loose waves.

Larissa snatched her cars keys and slid her custom made Gucci bag onto her shoulder. She thudded down the winding staircase and headed towards the kitchen. The smell of freshly made coffee hit her; she smiled with delight and grabbed the already served cup of coffee. She took a sip of it when her phone buzzed. She fished it out of her bag, and noticed she’d received a message from Juliet. She smiled, it was the girl’s birthday today and Larissa was throwing her a grand party at her penthouse. It fit well with her schedule, her parents weren't suppose to be back from their three week business trip until late tomorrow night. And her brother surely wouldn't mind a party? Larissa’s eyes quickly skimmed the message; she’d almost forgotten to check the latest from Gossip Girl. She didn’t care much for gossip, but she knew the power it had and wasn't stupid enough to be completely oblivious to it. She scanned the post, and rolled her eyes. It was nothing important for now; today she had other concerns. Larissa let her fingers glide over her phone’s key board and quickly wrote a reply.

She rounded the building to the parking lot in back. Constance wasn’t far from her house luckily, so she could easily get to school. Larissa climbed into her car, put the gear on drive and rolled out onto busy Fifth Avenue. She taped her fingers against the steering wheel, when Constance Billard loomed in the distance. Parking her car in the same parking spot she had been using for years now, Larissa cut the engine and sighed. She emerged from the car, and was aware that all eyes were on her. Whether be it in fear or hatred, everyone glance her way. She was the ruthless queen, fear and hated but never to be messed with. Everyone knew that, they kept their distance or leeched around her, pretending to be nice. Because there was nothing worse than L’s fury, it burnt everything in its path. And she didn’t get mad for nothing; she wasn't foolish enough to waste her time with pity arguments. But once you crossed her, hell would follow closely.

Larissa glanced up, her green eyes boring into a little girls nervous gaze. The girl quickly glanced away, like looking into the eyes of the devil. Larissa smiled cruelly, she stood tall and confident walking across the parking lot towards the gates. The lingering eyes shifted away, afraid to be caught staring. Some would say she was full of herself, self-centered, hateful, prideful, cruel, and maybe she was all that but that was the reason she was queen. She wasn’t afraid, most never realized that about her but she was fearless, she was ruthless and she had no conscience. All equalling to her being capable of almost anything she set her mind to. So why did Larissa Lang have to care about what others thought of her? Breaking her out of her reverie, Larissa glanced down at her buzzing phone. She had gotten a message from the king. She smiled, Kevin was her dear friend and also the king of the upper east side. Together they; the king and queen, were perhaps the most feared . Reading his message, she realized she had forgotten him; she had been too preoccupied with getting too school and meeting with Juliet. Laughing, she wrote out her reply.

Getting ready for a party took most girls a long time, but not Larissa Lang. After going through a long and dreadful day at Constance, she was excited for the upcoming event. Larissa applied fresh new makeup, creating a smoky eye with her eyes, making sure the makeup emphasized her green eyes and her thick lashes. She curled the ends of her hair, letting it run wild and messy. She wore the dress she had custom made for Juliet’s party, it was made of raw silk and hung on her beautifully; accentuating her thin silhouette. The dress had a silver neckline, dipping into a ‘v-neck’ in the front and the back. It collected at the waist; a thin belt with tiny designs and diamonds defined her waist and the rest flowed down to her knees. She slipped into high heels and she was ready to go.

Larissa left a note on her brother’s door saying; gone to the party, overlooking last minute details. See you there soon. –L , before leaving to the night club. She drove there quickly and once she stepped inside she was ecstatic. Everything had come together beautifully. Dimitri, her favourite employee from her staff, had come to help out the night club’s staff set up for the party. The man had helped her out many times before, like helping her sneak out at night without getting caught when her parents were home or delivering ‘special drinks’. Tonight, he was her secret supply for liquor. She had pulled some strings to make sure that no one would come noising into the party and find out they were serving alcohol to the under aged. She even got a bouncer at the door to verify everyone’s identity, nothing too harsh.

“Is everything set for tonight?” she had asked Dimitri, who had crossed the dance floor to come see her. He smiled that sheepish smile of his and said “Everything’s all set, everyone's finishing up and we're good to have some fun” Larissa smiled boldly, she was glad things were ruining smoothly. “Good. Nothing can ruin tonight's party, it’s my girl Juliet’s birthday after all” The party was for Juliet’s birthday and it had to be good. It was being held at none other than the most sought out night club in the city. Larissa even had a whole floor reserved at the hotel across the street for guest that got too drunk to go home or if they just wanted to crash at the hotel. She had the whole party set out with decorations of blue's and gold's, the colors of royalty. Pulling on more strings and favors, she had been able to book the night club for the whole night. The party seemed perfect in her mind and she would do everything in her power to make it perfect. The gift bags were ready and so was the liquor supply, thanks to Dimitri. Tonight was going to be the best birthday party yet.

Larissa typed the message quickly and pressed send. She was throwing the party for her, and Larissa would like for Juliet to be the first to see her work. And she also wanted to give her the gift she’d had been planning to give before. She was rather lousy at gifts, it wasn’t something she did. But Larissa was trying real hard to be nice today, it was her friend’s birthday and birthdays were always something special to remember. It was the day all about you. It was a free card to being arrogant and self-centered for a day, but L was always like that anyways. She also did love a good party opportunity when she saw one. The official time for the party would be starting fairly soon, but coming fashionably late was common. So she didn’t expect anyone right away.

So she sat down on a stool, and someone served her some spiked punch. She sipped at it and scratched her head. She was forgetting a small detail about this year’s donkey. Almost every elite party had that poor sucker who would be the center of a twisted game. She’d already decided who it would be but she didn’t know what to do with her…yet. Larissa Lang sat back relaxingly; watching caterer’s strolled in and out of the back room and plotted silently.

Far off in the distance the sound of the final bell rang throughout the school, dismissing everyone from their classes. Soon the grounds would be flooded with annoying student chatter that will burst her pleasant mood. To no one’s surprise, Ember Cross was not in class. She didn’t feel the need to attend class with a bunch of low lives. No, she’d rather spend her time inhaling the thick smoke from the joint she’d lit up. She felt giddy inside, the effects of the drug were lost on her because of her powers. But it did leave her feeling calm and happy, which she desperately needed after a most boring day.

Ember really didn’t care about school, she coasted through classes getting C’s, but if she really applied herself she could get A’s. She didn’t like to brag but she was a smart girl before her daddy left. Afterwards, nothing really matter once she figured out that she could get what she wanted without the work. So everything went downhill from there. No one would believe her if she got an A nowadays, the teachers would mostly likely accuse her of cheating! So she didn’t bother, instead she spent her time with her friends. Speaking of…school was over and as she watched students pour out of the school like vermin, she found herself wanting to seek out some friends.

A quick check in her car’s rear-view mirror, she found her eyes were slightly blood-shot. I f you didn’t know any better, she just looked tired and not high. She took a long dragged of the joint before getting out of the car. Her legs were getting cramped being camped out in her car, so it felt good when she stretched them out. She grabbed her bag and slung it onto her shoulder. Her hair was messily tied up in a ponytail, a few strands slipped out in waves down her face.

Ember slammed the door to her car door shut, windows cranked down to let the car air out but she wasn’t afraid of anyone trying to steal her car. Besides, the keys were safely nestled in her pocket. In her hand she still clutched the joint between two fingers. She let it drop to the pavement and stepped on it with her new blood red pumps. Smothering the little joint until it wasn’t noticeable anymore. Satisfied, Ember’s eyes gazed the crowd of people for a familiar face. It wasn’t long until she spotted Rosilia and Savannah walking away from Jade’s car. They seemed to have been engaged in conservation along with Deirdre and Grant who’d joined in. She slowly walked towards them, walking like a stealthy jaguar stalking prey. Ember still felt exuberantly happy, and had a big friendly smile plastered on her face.

“Hey guys, what were you doing talking to the freak over there?” Ember picked up her pace to match that of Rosilia’s and Savannah’s. “I mean geez, what’s wrong with normal hair?” she mumbled and shook her head in disgust. She turned her attention back to Savannah and Rosilia “So what are you girls doing later? I’m rather dying for some fun” she raised her eyebrows questioningly. Ember was hoping she wouldn’t have a boring Friday night. But Friday nights were hardly ever boring when she was Vixen. Em was up for a little mischievous tonight.
