          Powersxxx Jayde’s codename isn’t “Whisper” because she is a quiet person; quite the contrary, really. Jay is called “Whisper” because of her influence over the wind. She has the ability to manipulate the air/wind around us all—although only to a certain extent because who can really control the wind? Jay can make violent winds, gusts of air, or even a slight breeze from seemingly nothing. She is very connected to the wind—both a good thing and a bad thing.

          For her first year at the academy, Jayde was working to build up the force of the winds she controlled. Even before she got into the school, she had some power over it although it was slight. The first year was hard for her as she had to actually think about using her power, while still running on strong instincts. Her power requires her to have both extreme concentration but also strong instincts.

          The second year was dedicated to still working on her control but also a new influence she didn’t know that she could control: oxygen. She can’t necessarily control oxygen but she can almost eliminate the presence of breathable air from a small area. She does this with the use of wind. She forces the wind currents into a very swift spiraling vortex, which sucks up all the useable air in the area that it surrounds. This ability takes a lot of Jay’s energy and she doesn’t often attain the speed necessary to do it. She is still working on this power as it would be beneficial to her team if she could just incapacitate the enemy from a distance. She has also been trying to learn how to fly—this hasn't been going very well at all so she usually avoids it.

          Her power increases exponentially when she feels a very strong emotion—such as anger, depression or fear—but unfortunately, Jay avoids these emotions in favor of the “smaller” ones—happiness, irritation, momentary sadness. If you were to put her in a small box against her will, for example, it would be best to hide behind some type of very strong barrier. Jay would blast her way out of the box very quickly out fear and anger. Her power also comes out in an unrehearsed dance choreography. As she controls the wind currents, her body moves with the wind. It’s very graceful, but she is not by any means a graceful person. When not using her power, she is frequently running some part of her body into some inanimate object.
          Abilitiesxxx mad kite flying skills; untrained dancing--the minute Jay tries to use technique, she falls flat on her face; fast driving; eavesdropping; calming people down
          Paraphernaliaxxx She prefers flowy clothing to restrictive as it allows her to connect more to her abilities. When she is in her everyday clothes, she almost always wears her mother’s antique necklace and/or a bunch of bracelets.

For some moments in life there are no words...
              Jayde Eden Alexander has always been a “Free spirit”. As a child she was often seen running outside rather than reading—although she wasn’t opposed to it. For the first eleven years of her life, Jayde’s young parents seemed to love her freedom and expression. In fact, they encouraged it. Her parents were always encouraging her to move around and appreciate the earth. Her parents were often outside themselves. They often had groups at their house—wherever it was that year. Jay’s parents moved around a lot because they could not seem to find a place that really “spoke” to them. Finding a job was never as critical, they often told Jayde, as finding a place where the earth spoke to you. If it isn’t obvious by now, Jayde’s parents were “Hippies”—or “Children of the earth” as they preferred to be called.

              Throughout Jayde’s childhood, she was irritated by half of the things that her parents talked about. She was a “free spirit” but she wasn’t completely sold on the raw vegan diet, organic hemp tee-shirts, and all of the talk about the earth. Frankly, Jayde liked meat, cotton-blend clothes, and day-trips to the city. It took her eight years to finally accept who her parents were. Three years later, things changed. The family picked up their things—which wasn’t at all uncommon—and left their home…for a suburban room with two too many rooms. There was a perfectly spotless garden maintained by a landscaping crew. She found her mom wearing a polyester-blend dress, and her dad sporting a new briefcase. They became the ideal suburban parents.
              On Jayde’s eleventh birthday, her parents told her the news. They were having a child. They wanted to try a different parenting method with this child as they remembered Jayde’s complaints when she was younger. They wanted a more stable lifestyle. They told her other changes that they would like to implement but Jayde doesn’t remember the rest of what they said. She was too busy staring at her parents in horror. She had been used to her life as an only child. Her power flared to life after this moment. It was always present in her but it was always unnoticeable—perhaps, a teasing breeze here and there or perfect kite conditions. It became visible but not completely unexplainable: a harsh wind blowing into the house, knocking down picture frames when the door opened, for example.

              The next few years were full of crying babies (two to be exact). Jayde became the much older sister of a boy and a girl—Robert and Carlie Alexander. Robert (affectionately called “Robby” by Jayde’s parents) was the louder one of the two—colicky, fussy, and clingy. He loved to be held but the moment you put him down to turn your attention to something else, he looked up at you like you vindictively betrayed his trust. Then, he started crying again. Carlie was the younger, more docile baby. She was content to just roam around the house. She tended to wander into Jay’s room, however. Jay’s window was almost open so that would be a problem. Soon, Jayde felt ignored by her parents. The two children seemed to consume so much of their time and energy. The wind energy around Jayde started getting more and more intense until one day it all just came out. It tore the house apart and whipped paper and glass across the house. Unfortunately, some of the glass flew out at the toddlers. A large piece of glass sliced across Robby’s arm, cutting it almost clean off.

              Then everything stopped. The wind immediately died. The room was still for that moment. Nobody moved, nobody spoke. Even poor, wounded Bobby was silent. A full minute passed before Hell broke loose. What the family did not know what that Carlie was an empath. She had unconsciously kept the room’s emotions at bay.

              Jayde’s parents said she looked possessed the moment before the wild wind came. They seemed to know what she was before she did. They told her this as they fussed with Bobby for a minute. Then they all left the house for the hospital, leaving 13 year old Jay all alone. Jayde was not about to stay where she was however. She had learned to drive in one of the more rural towns they had lived in so she stole her mother’s Honda car, a wad of cash and she ran. She still remembers the way Carlie looked at her when the three-year old left with her parents…she knew. She knew Jayde was going to leave. But she didn’t know how to say it. So, she settled for “Bye Bye, JayJay”.

              For a year and a half, Jayde just drove. She stayed at hostiles, lied about her age to get sketchy, under-the-table jobs but always moving. Always restless. Just like the wind. She drove. She stayed off well-known roads and tried to obey every law. She was almost fifteen when she was finally pulled over. The officers took one look at her and knew that she was obviously not of age, so Jay spent the night in a room at the courthouse while the Mississippi police officers tried to figure out what to do with her. By the end of the night, Jay was ready to leave. The room was small and she was not used to staying in one place for so long. The school board rescued her. They offered her a place at the school. A roof over her head, food in her stomach, protection and what she craved the most…knowledge of how to control her abilities. Jay was wary of the offer at first but finally she agreed. She has since been glad that she agreed to come to this school.

              Though Jay is happy at the school, it seems like every few months, she threatens to leave the school. She doesn’t like to stay in one place for too long as she sometimes feels like it hinders her freedom. Fortunately, her teammates are able to calm her down enough that she stays. She has been using the threat ever since she started at the school and it used to come with more frequency. She did not use it to manipulate her way in arguments, rather, she just wants her freedom. She respects her teammates and feels like they’re her family members and best friends all rolled into one—she gets irritated with them at times, but she still loves most of them.

I n s i d e ::
      Personality: Naomi—Depression—used to be the sensitive “Little girl”—everyone assumed she was smaller and younger than her actual size/height/age because of her personality. Depression was one to be pitied—necessary for the balance of the world, but only to be tolerated. She was not sought-after but she was not ignored either. She was seen as weak, helpless, ad dependent. Back then, she showed more of her external depression—wearing her sorrow on her sleeve. She resented others for trying to help her, even though at times she needed it (times where she became paralyzed with her own despair, for example). To say that Depression hates the person she was in the past is putting it lightly.

      Now, Depression suffers from a more internal despair—she does not show her sorrow as readily as she did before, although sometimes it can still be seen. She is usually quiet and introverted to those that she does not know. She can equally inspire comfort in her silence, as well as restlessness, understand, and/or fear. She often over-compensates for her despair by portaying a “strong” and independent image. Depression is not to be confused with “evil”, however; she simply exists. She sees herself as needed for the balance of the world. Naomi is somber, serious, emotional and realistic (which could just be a nicer word for “pessimistic”). She also has an odd sense of compassion for those in pain--she is more comforting to those in suffering than toward anyone.

      ❝ c h a r a c t e r q u o t e ❞

D e e p e r::
      History: Naomi has always seen herself as the oldest child of the emotional “family” of three—which includes Happiness, Hope, and herself—this is despite the fact that she has often been seen by others as “young”. This, of course, isn’t true as these three emotions are around the same age. She sees happiness as frivolous and overly simplistic (even though that may not be true) but she tolerates him. She sees the two of them as two sides of the same coin—as opposites but coexisting because they have common ground in that they know what to expect of one another. It’s her “sister” that Naomi reserves her hatred for. She despises and resents Hope because of her power to bring others up. She perceived that Hope upset the balance in favor of more pleasing emotions. She is not completely obvious about her dislike of Hope because she has always had a cool anger. Instead, she passes around knowledge about Hope to make others distrust her. For so long it didn’t seem to work. Her unease about her sister deepened and she found that she wished that this other emotion would simply cease to exist. Well, Naomi got her wish.

      After Hope left, Naomi—although she wasn’t always known as “Naomi”—began to see the shift in the world. It was subtle at first because Hope left her “children” to tend to the earth but Naomi saw the clear bi-polarity of the world—individuals would subtly move from being extremely elated and happy to somber and sorrowful. Still, it was subtle. The emotions were not quite as intense. Fifty years ago, however, Naomi noticed an even bigger shift. The periods of elation and depression were not quite as slow to change. The last of Hope’s children died. Naomi was pleased with this at first. Now, she still does not mind it, although she views it as too easy. She almost misses the game of emotions she had when Hope existed. She will not admit to this, however.

      Despite her hatred of travel, Naomi has been to many places. She has not been able to help herself. When the world was “smaller”, it was easier to travel around. She moved around the Asian countries for several centuries before settling in Europe for much longer. She was one of the causes of many of the civil wars in the countries as well as the revolutions and discontent. She thrived in the French Revolution where hate, despair and terror ran rampant. She likes to be near to her “children”, however. She seems to gravitate toward them. Naomi moved to Los Angeles, California about two years ago. She was not sure if she would like it because in her previous times in California, she found the sun to be “too present” and the cheerful attitudes “too consuming”. This was not a place she wanted to be. However, she felt a stirring in the air. Something changed here. From her experience, it looked as if Hope was here. So, Naomi moved from her home in Moscow, Russia to sunny Los Angeles, California.

      ✰ ✰ ✰

N o t e s::
      Power: Naomi has the power of draining energy. If she is not with her familiar, she has to be directly touching the individual's body or skin to be able to do it. This power extends to emotions, familiars and regular humans. When she drains an Emotion or familiar of their energy, she does not drain them of their abilities. Rather, Naomi drains their physical, emotional and mental energy and vitality (the same is to be said with regular humans). If she has done this, one would feel listless, exhausted and numb for about an hour although the time varies. She has only slight control of this power. When she is with her familiar, she is able to extend her powers to three or four feet around her body without touching the individual. Generally, the individual also feels drained for two to three hours.
      Extra: Naomi traditionally calls Hope "sister" and Happiness "Brother". She sees the other emotions of her faction as her "children".

      Hope is what keeps us going; love is what keeps us alive

I n s i d e ::
      Personality:Lily is hope—the feeling people get when they realize that what they want is attainable. She shares some of the traits with her emotion, of course. Lily is optimistic and upbeat—a kind smile is almost always on her lips and a bounce seems to be inherent in her step. Lily is modest about the things she does well; she is not afraid, however, to encourage and acknowledge others’ efforts and skills. Lily is a calming presence. She is comfortable and warm. Lily is a sympathetic ear and often traditional—due to her centuries of being asleep.

      More often than not, Lily is very selfless—giving to others despite her own conditions—but she has her moments of selfishness—though they are rare moments. Once naive beyond measure, Lily is now apprehensive, though still more willing to believe in the good of people, rather than the evil. Though Lily seems assured and confident on the outside, she is quite fragile and quiet on the inside. She is a creature of comfort—seeking comfort more than new experiences. When she is put in new situations, Lily becomes very nervous and her emotions come off stronger than they really are—experiencing heart breaking depression, fiery anger, or extremely good cheer. She is often very stable with these strong emotions, however. In the past, when her familiar was around, Lily was even more stable with her emotions.

      Of all the forces that make for a better world, none is so indispensable, none so powerful, as hope. Without hope people are only half alive. With hope they dream and think and work.

D e e p e r::
      History: "Only Hope was left within her unbreakable house, she remained under the lip of the jar, and did not fly away. Before [she could], Pandora replaced the lid of the jar," (Hesiod. Hesiodic myth--works and days). When Pandora opened her box on the fateful day, one thing was left: Hope. Little hope was left in the box as the other emotions and sins ran rampart over the world. Contrary to the myth, however, Pandora opened the box again when she realized what was left. She let Hope out in order to save the world. Hope was the perfect piece to bring balance to the world. Once one of the three strongest and oldest emotions, hope disappeared from the human world, leaving behind depression and happiness to fend for themselves.

      Lily is hope—the “missing” emotion. She disappeared from the world during the Renaissance—a glorious time for most of the emotions, especially for Lily (although she was known as “Bianca” in those days). The Renaissance was full of innovation, artistry, advancement and hope. Hope loved it all…until her familiar was killed in an untimely death. You see, Hope was in love with her familiar, although it was against the rules. After her familiar died, Hope became very depressed but she still waited. She knew he would appear again. She had hope that he would be back. Familiars always reappeared promptly after their deaths. She grew more and more weathered as time passed. Fifteen years, then twenty. When the twenty-fourth year passed, Hope fell into her deepest bout of despair. She began sending out the feelings of false hope. She did it quite by accident, although it caused major problems.

      Finally, Pandora—the “manager” of the emotions—came to Hope and told her that her familiar was missing. Hope despaired. When Pandora offered Hope a respite from the world, she took it immediately. She sent out “children” with the mark of hope to keep the emotion alive. Although these “children” were not as powerful as the real emotion, they allowed Hope’s power to remain in the world. Unfortunately, the last of Hope’s children died fifty years ago. Thankfully, however, Hope’s familiar was found recently. He is now in his rightful place.

      It is time for Hope to return.

      Power:Lilly has the power of Psychometry. This is where she can see the objective past or future by touching an object or a person. Without her familiar, Lilly has a very hard time distinguishing the time (whether it is the future or the past) and both times are unclear. When she is with her familiar, Lilly can see the past/future with more clarity and she is a little better at distinguishing the times. With the knowledge of the future, Lilly is able to bring hope to people. She can spread or take away the emotion of hope.

      Gender: Don’t you have eyes? I’m female.
      Sexuality: I favor men but women have been known to catch my eye.

O u t s i d e ::
      Height // Weight: 5 feet, 7 inches // 130 pounds

      Life is playfulness…We need to play so that we can rediscover the magic all around us. (Flora Colao)

I n s i d e ::
      Personality: Ivy is Playfulness—the often naughty, slightly childish emotion. She is lively, spontaneous, and very rarely serious. This does not mean that Ivy is not intelligent—in fact, it is exactly the opposite. Ivy is very cunning. She is not very observant, however. She is very forgetful as well. At a party, she often forgets where she sets down her drink. Ivy can be quite persistent and obsessive—clinging to a fact or piece of information if it is not addressed immediately. Despite her mischievous nature, she is charismatic—people meet her and even if she irks them with her tricks, they cannot help but smile.

      Ivy thinks out loud, often ignoring the inner voice in her head. As a result, is often puts her foot in her mouth. Ivy is extroverted—meaning she likes to be in groups of people and she gains a substantial amount of energy from those around her. She is a tease and a flirt. She enjoys leading boys on and making them fall for her. She enjoys the feeling of power that is gives her. Ivy is flighty—she doesn’t like to stay in one place for too long. Ivy isn’t exactly mean—she just likes to have fun, although it is sometimes at the expense of another. Ivy isn’t the most sweetest girl either though. She can be sarcastic, or even, if she is woken up earlier than she would like, irritable.

      Likes:
        Games/Jokes (both mind games and board/card games)
        Parties/social gatherings
        Children
        Dancing/Music
      Dislikes:
        early mornings
        staying in one place for too long
        silence
        Being alone

      Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature. (Tom Robbins)

D e e p e r::
      History: Playfulness was not always known as “Ivy”; she has been called many things throughout history. Some of these things are synonyms for her emotion (such as impishness, mischievousness, naughtiness, etc.); others have been mythological creatures (For example, imps, faeries, pixies, fauns, etc.); still other names have been human names chosen by the girl. One thing is true, however, Ivy has always loved to have fun. She has been known to cause rebellions and change—some good some bad. She has also been responsible for many mistakes made by historical figures—A few examples have been: Columbus assuming North America was India, the Boston Tea Party, President Nixon’s leak, and many more, worldwide political or social mistakes, misassumptions and ironies.

      Ivy has always loved to travel. Before planes, Ivy sailed across the Atlantic ocean 10 times, and the pacific ocean 7 times. She has visited all of the continents at least once—but more often five times, except in the case of Antarctica. She does not have a single favorite place because she gets bored of all of them at some point, however, she does like North America. Most recently, Ivy was in Egypt, causing trouble with the political system. She traveled to Los Angeles, California, because she felt a stirring inside of her. Ivy has always trusted her instincts when it comes to places. She could tell something was going to happen in LA so she went—it helped that LA is a good clubbing/party scene as well.

      Ivy has always trusted her “commander”—Happiness. She recognizes her need for his power. She has supported him throughout the ages, even as he tried to defeat Depression when Hope disappeared. When Hope disappeared, Ivy thought things would be okay. She was not thinking far enough ahead to realize the problems with a prolonged absence of Hope. Now, however, Ivy misses the selfless emotion. Ivy sees the pain some of the tricks she plays has on countries. She sees the wars. In short, Ivy sees that the world is no longer such a fun place to be.

      ✰ ✰ ✰

N o t e s::
      Power: Ivy has the emotional ability to spread or take away the feeling of "fun" to those around her. She spreads the emotion around with her power of manipulating the element of air/wind. She can't create the wind but even if there is a subtle breeze, she can bring it to full gale. When her familiar is around, she can create a full gale or tornado out of seemingly nothing. She is often very dramatic when she does so, raising her arms above her head and playfully acting it out.
      Extra: Ivy lives with a human roommate who seems oddly immune to Ivy's emotional waves--Ivy is working on her though

          Powersxxx Evangeline has the ability to manipulate nerve endings. She establishes a telepathic connection to these nerve endings. Though this skill can manifest itself in many ways, her strongest lie with the Free Nerve Endings (FNE). FNEs are mostly located on the spine; they send information regarding pain to the brain. When Via gets control of these nerve endings, she is able to send her victim either intense pain or sweet relief. The relief—just like the pain—feels real in a sense; It is not unlike a pain killer. It does not treat the wound or area on the body that is causing the pain, however. The moment she cuts her connection off with the individual is the moment that the relief (or pain) stops. It takes a few minutes to remove its whole presence, but it is, in fact, cut off. Via Is more likely to cause you pain than to give you relief; it is in her personality.

          Evangeline’s ability can also lead to more serious issues. She causes relief by isolating the nerve that is sending the message of “pain” to the brain and turning it “off”. If she were to do that with more of the other functioning nerve endings, she could isolate the entire brain, cutting it off from the five senses (sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste). This is harder for Via to control. It involves more concentration. This power still cannot kill, however. Something in her victims’ bodies always prevent her from reaching the nerves that lead to “breathing” or “circulation”. She calls it the body’s “will to live” and it irritates Via to no end.

          The telepathic connection is established two ways. First, Evangeline can touch her intended victim for a brief amount of time anywhere on the body. Second, she must maintain eye contact for at least two seconds. She used to need five seconds or more to establish this connection, however, now Via only needs a few seconds to “work her magic”. If she does not establish these telepathic connections to the nerve endings, she is blind to their activities. Not many know of this blindness as she prefers to keep it a secret.
          Abilitiesxxx excellent liar; good at thieving; not bad at poker; quick-witted;
          Paraphernaliaxxx She keeps a set of small binoculurs with her--thus enabling her to catch the eye of her opponent from a great distance and giving her the ability to snipe effectively. She also prefers black and grey clothing--often choosing a pair of black saddle boots. CLOTHING OR OTHER WORN ITEMS YOUR CHARACTER MIGHT WEAR IN THE FIELD TO HELD IN BATTLE.

Tell me lies, Tell me sweet little lies...
              Once upon a time there lived a little girl named Evangeline Resten. Evangeline liked to understand how things worked. She would take apart all of her toys and even some of her parents’ mechanical clocks in order to grasp how all of the parts fit together. She loved to break the items down. There was something so fascinating about the way the clocks ticked or the reason why her toys moved. Her parents encouraged her to also try to put the pieces back together again and although she was reluctant at first, she finally agreed and began to create working machinery again. As Evangeline grew older, she moved from physical, mechanical objects to life. Mental processes and relationships took the places of cogs and wheels that had previously inhabited her mind. These living aspects sparked her interest her even more than the mechanical ones although she only had to learn from books rather than experience. Her parents encouraged her throughout her quest for knowledge. They thought that she would become a great engineer or even a doctor. They had high hopes for their smart daughter

              Unfortunately for Evangeline, her parents died in a car accident. The doctors said that her parents died a quick and painless death and the truck driver who ran their car off the road was fairly sentenced to time in prison. Evangeline was immediately sent to an orphanage while the authorities tried to contact any living family member. When their attempts failed to bring someone forward to take her, Evangeline was placed in her first foster home. The man and the woman seemed nice enough but they were both physically and mentally abusive. Her teachers noticed her grades slipping and the bruises upon her poor, thin arms and they contacted Child Protective Services. Evangeline was saved from this home but sadly she went through three others just like it, ranging from abusive to extremely neglectful. The little girl tried to keep her hopes up, however. She tried to keep her sweet and positive demeanor intact.

              Luckily, after three years of bad family situations, Evangeline was placed into a home with the kindest couple imaginable. They were older with two grown children. They went out of their way to help Evangeline cope with her grief over losing her parents and her fears about family life. They brought her to a more stable place mentally and soon smiles replaced frowns, and laughs came instead of tears. After several years of progress, the couple decided to adopt Evangeline. Everyone was in favor of the adoption—The couple, Evangeline, and even the couple’s grown children. The adoption papers were about to go through when something happened, however. The woman died and Evangeline was found near her body. The death wasn’t particularly gruesome but it was sudden. The woman was in excellent health for her age and nothing seemed wrong with her body with the exception of her brain. The man seemed to go insane, saying that Evangeline had something to do with it. Evangeline claimed it was an “accident” but no one could see the connection between the fifteen year old and the woman’s death. Evangeline herself, however, knew she had seen something in her mind that day when she looked into her foster mother’s breezy blue eyes. She just knew that somehow she was to blame for the death. So because of this, Evangeline ran.

              Evangeline did not to run far. Someone found her. This man—she still won’t say his identity as she believes that it is best to be kept as a secret—was speculated to be a great personal friend of Mr. Adrian Epperson and he also knew his way around teaching. He took Evangeline under his wing and really taught her about her skills, easily reading them because of part of his own skill set. While he gave her a variety of texts related to nerve endings and superpower to read, he also taught her how to fight and how to build up her natural speed. He was a good tutor and an even better friend. With his help, Evangeline gained expert control of her power and a high school diploma. He was also the reason why Evangeline was offered a paid internship at Epperson’s academy for superheroes. Evangeline took the job in hopes that she could help teenagers reach their full potential power without accidently harming those that they love. The twenty-two year old now works as Epperson’s intern, helping him to plan future schools.

              [ Stop. Rewind. Let’s start again. The truth this time.]

              Once upon a time there lived a little girl who liked to understand how things—especially people—worked. The little girl’s name was Evangeline Resten. Evangeline first began her quest for knowledge by taking all of her toys and some of her parent’s mechanical items (such as clocks, coffee makers and radios) apart in order to grasp how they fit together to create a working object. As she grew older, she left the mechanical gadgets and plastic toys alone, seeking instead things with greater complexity. Evangeline’s first step out of her childhood quest was with a dead crow she found in her backyard. She was seven. Needless to say, after the dissection she was covered in the bird’s blood and smell. Her mother noticed and asked what had happened, fearing that the blood was from her daughter’s body. Evangeline told her and her mother was not surprised. She even smiled. She must have thought that her daughter would become an engineer or a doctor when she grew up. And she was right—well, sort of.

              Evangeline’s parents died before they ever got to see her potential. Both of Evangeline’s parents died in [insert explanation of death that's NOT car crash.]. Evangeline was sent to an orphanage because the county could not reach any one of her family members. Ten year old Evangeline did not know how to act at the orphanage, other than hide her morbid curiosity with mechanics (which she had learned to do several years before at her mother’s prompting). Instead of the physical mechanics of an object, she focused on the mental. She began manipulating the children around her in order to get what she wanted. Not long after her admittance to the orphanage, she was released to a family. The family—the Black’s—seemed pleasant when she first met them. They were not so when she lived with them. They were very abusive—taking their rage out on her physically and mentally. Evangeline arrived at school with bruises across her body and scratches across her arms. Her teachers sounded the alarm and the little girl was sent back to the orphanage. Three times this happened—either the parents were neglectful or abusive. Evangeline became inured to the situation. She could not fight it so she learned from it. She began to lie with greater ease, and manipulate those around her with her “sweet” personality. Sometimes it would help her to avoid a beating, sometimes it would cause one. Either way, Evangeline became a young student of the art of deception.

              After three years of bad foster homes, Evangeline was finally put into a good one. The man and woman were older and they had grown children. They were nice. Evangeline did not let her guard down. Even when the family proved time and time again that they were “good”, Evangeline did not trust them. She hated them. She despised the happy little house with its large spare bedroom that became her home. She hated them more than any family she had lived with before—except for the first family, of course. But, Evangeline did not rebel. She was not especially mean to the man or the woman or even their two children. She was the perfect foster child—helpful, considerate, charming. She kept her loathing to herself, letting it fester inside of her all the while smiling and pretending to “improve” emotionally and mentally from her “horrible experiences”.

              At age seventeen (three and a half years after she entered the home of her foster parents) Evangeline met VOID. She was walking through a park on her way home from school one day when she saw him sitting on one of the benches. He was watching her. At first, Evangeline was scared of him, determined not to meet his gaze but her curiosity pertaining to him grew. There was something about him…Something dangerous. Something evil, even. Week after week he sat in the same place. Evangeline still didn’t speak to him. One day, as fate would have it, they ran into each other on the sidewalk. Later, Evangeline would wonder if it wasn’t fate at all but VOID’s determination. Something odd happened: he offered her power. Unimaginable power. Evangeline was confused and tried to question him more in order to get a clearer grasp of what he was saying but he wouldn’t say more.

              Evangeline said “Yes”. That afternoon, when she returned home, her foster mother told her that the adoption papers were almost finished processing. Soon Evangeline would be their daughter. Rage filled the teenager and before she knew what was happening, her eyes met the older woman’s eyes. She touched the woman’s wrist and her mind produced a diagram of a brain. Evangeline instinctively reached out with her mind and pulled. The woman dropped to the floor, managing to hit her head on the carpet nearby instead of the wood that they were standing on. Evangeline’s foster father came running in. He looked from the crumpled woman on the floor to the teenager who was standing. Although Evangeline claimed she didn’t do anything, the man didn’t believe her. He still thought she was lying even after the doctors explained that the woman’s brain seemed to “give up”. Somehow though Evangeline was sure she didn’t have any superpowers to speak of, she knew she was to blame for this “accident”. So she “ran”—or sought out the man from the park.

              Evangeline found him and he smiled as she told her story. She was unnerved but positive that the man had something to do with Evangeline killing the older woman. When he told her what he did, she did not feel remorse or guilt or even sadness. Evangeline felt awe. To imagine someone giving her the power to manipulate nerve endings was astounding. VOID had one other student when he took her under his tutelage. Two more came soon after. Evangeline sometimes learned from VOID about her abilities and skills, and sometimes she learned from tutors he set her up with. The result was all that mattered though. Evangeline gained control of her power and became a swift and excellent fighter. Her natural predilection for deception lead VOID to trust her as someone who could gather information.

              Evangeline found herself as an intern for Epperson because of VOID. He posed as one of Epperson’s outside friends and was able to recommend the twenty year old for a job as an intern. When Epperson offered the paid internship, Evangeline accepted. She continually lies about her age, claiming that she is twenty-two when in reality she is only twenty. She hates the tasks that she does for Epperson although she loves the covert job she does for VOID in gathering information. It would seem as though all her skills match up for the job VOID wants her to do.

Katrina Rose Archer
[The Histrionic Hellion]

              AGE: Twenty
              GENDER: Female
              ORIENTATION: Whoever pays attention
              STATUS: Patient
              PROBLEM: Histrionic Personality Disorder
              POWER: Kat has the power of illusion. She can create illusions with her mind and send them out to others. Her power works with individuals who are within eight feet of her (usually). Her ability is related to her emotions. When she feels a particularly strong emotion, her mind automatically tries to do something with it and that "something" is an illusion. She can't always control the illusions, however, and she is often put into a trance as a mental defense mechanism if the emotion is particularly strong. Most of her illusions are backgrounds to the real world but she often creates others that are "images" or "stories". She doesn't always know what the illusions are for others and she doesn't know what causes them. Her ability is almost the antithesis of empathy; where empathy collects another individual's emotions, Katrina's power puts her own emotions on to other people through her creation of illusions.
              COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: She has lived in many place (more about it in her history), but her family settled in Seattle, Washington. Her ancestors originated from all over Europe—parts of Germany, Scotland, Ireland, England and Ukraine

              ▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁

        ↗↗↗ P H Y S I C A L L O O K S
        Katrina stands at 5”6 and she weighs 119 pounds. She has an average frame, with a B sized breast cup, and a trim waist. Kat is proportioned well for her size—meaning that her long legs are matched by an equally long torso. She has pale, white skin, which bronzes but also freckles in the sun. Kat’s hair is naturally a medium red color that falls in waves to the middle of her back. Her expressive eyes are deep blue-green color, with a band of dark blue around the edge. Her lips are average—the bottom lip is only slightly fuller than the top—and naturally drawn into a smile. Kat is never seen without the basics of makeup—a dab of eyeliner, some mascara, a bit of lip-gloss. She doesn’t have any tattoos and her ears are pierced twice on each side.
        ↗↗↗ P E R S O N A L I T Y

            Katrina is friendly, if only a bit sensitive and selfish. She longs for acceptance ( For example, she has been known to try to “act crazy” in order for the others in this establishment to like her) and because of this, she can be gullible. Kat is sporadic and disorganized—her room is often a mess of clothing on the floor, books and makeup. She is talented at singing, although she is not very graceful. Kat loves meeting new people and talking with them, even though she is a bit insecure about herself.

            Lively: Katrina has always been full of life and enthusiasm except for a few years in high school. Most of the time this enthusiasm has been for the “improper” reasons but she has changed. When she speaks to others, Kat can come off as charismatic, friendly and enthusiastic even when inside she is full of anguish. It is not rare for her to be the life of the party or the “center of attention”—in fact, she likes it that way.

            Flirtatious: Kat is very flirtatious. She enjoys teasing others, or perhaps touching their arm for emphasis all the while with a charming smile. She is alluring and a bit seductive. She has had years of practice to get this skill down to an art. Most of the time she does so appropriately, but there are those times when she is improperly seductive.

            Charming: “Charming” is just a nice word for manipulative, although Kat can be quite amiable (see “Lively” section). She is manipulative because she wants the attention. Katrina enjoys basking in the spotlight—some may even say that she’s addicted to it. It is both a part of her personality and her disorder. Her charm isn’t all a bad thing, however. She will often put herself out there for another, getting them what they desire at the risk of exposing her behavior, although this is probably related to her strong desire for acceptance.

            Emotional: Emotions are a large part of who Katrina is. Her emotions are closely tied to her ability, after all. She has varying amounts of trouble expressing her emotions as it depends upon who she is talking with. She is very sensitive to about what others say about her. Kat is often overcome with emotion—experiencing rage that could rival the fire of Hell (in fact, she could even “put you” in one of her illusionary Hell fires) or sobbing at the end of an only mildly sad movie. Although some of these moods are true for Kat, other people sometimes see them as superficial or exaggerated.

        ↗↗↗ H I S T O R Y :

            Katrina Rose Archer lived in several places for the first few years of her life. Her parents were young and travelers at heart. They always found the faults of a given place and left that place before they could find any of its charms or strengths. By the time she was three, she and her three older siblings had lived in four different places—always on the North American continent and only once out of the United States. They had lived in New York City, New York, for six months, and then moved to St. Paul, Minnesota for three months—this was when her parents decided that they hated snow—then they moved to San Francisco, CA for a year, then to Vancouver, British Colombia for another year. The family finally found “home” in Seattle, Washington after Katrina’s forth birthday. They liked it because it rarely (if ever) snowed and they loved the rain.

            Katrina’s family grew with the addition of two more children—a boy and a girl. Kat was happy with the new playmates. She had a good childhood at her middle class home in Seattle. It was good until she entered elementary school. Kat realized she was not as intelligent with school as the other kids were—she wasn’t as quick with her words or as big of a reader. This is where her feelings of inadequacy began to develop. She tried to make up for it in other ways—by becoming Vice President of her school’s student council or by joining several clubs—but she wasn’t able to completely rid herself of the feeling. She tried other things in her later years in middle school and high school. She tried experimenting with heavy makeup or revealing clothes; she tried studying or reading more; she tried a few types of drugs; she experimented with drugs; she dated older men…Katrina tried many things and yet the feeling still lingered. It eventually caused her to push others away, increasing the inadequacy and adding loneliness and depression to it. Others began to think that she was over-reacting, unstable or melodramatic. They did not want to be around her and avoided it whenever they could. All Kat began to yearn for was some form of recognition and acceptance. She kept all of this inside of her, refusing to tell her worried parents what was happening.

            Finally, in her senior year of high school, Katrina had a major mental breakdown. She had kept her emotions tucked away for so long that they had been building up. She was sitting in her English class when her mind seemed to “collapse” upon itself. Her power burst out of her body like shock waves, silencing the class for a complete minute before the screaming began. Kat was in a trance for at least forty-five minutes, the classroom suspended in the pictures coming from her broken mind. The classroom door opened, breaking Kat’s trance and her power’s grasp from the students. Someone ran quickly into the room. The two girls who had been sitting next to Kat were on the floor; they had received the majority of Kat’s mental anguish because they had been so close. One of the girls was in a coma for six months; the other was in one for almost a full year.

            Although Kat didn’t know that she had caused the girls’ comatose states, she blamed herself. After the incident, she noticed how a certain emotion came into the eyes of those who had been in the class when they looked at her. Was it fear? Horror? Mistrust? Anger? Kat never learned what they saw. Once her ability was out of her body, it didn’t want to go away. Whenever a strong emotion took her, it would seep out of her body. It never had as much force as it did that first day. It never knocked anyone unconscious again.

            Katrina's parents enrolled her at Seven Rivers Psychiatric hospital after she graduated high school. They didn’t know what else they could do for her and it broke their hearts to see their beautiful daughter in the state she was in. They were sure she would not be able to handle the outside world. Katrina has called Seven Rivers Psychiatric hospital “home” for two years now.

            Kat loves to act in anything from stage (although she can’t dance well so musicals are pretty much out) to screen (television or movies) and she sings fairly well. Kat's disorder isn't really affected by medication so she just takes a few for some of the more minor conditions such as anxiety, depression and insomnia

[ Naomi Rebecca DuMont]
“Imagine yourself as the Queen of Despair…” Depression told her familiar, once upon a time ago. She held a dark blue velvet dress to her frail body and stared at her reflection in the looking glass. “Just imagine the pain you would experience everyday—the darkest, most passionate emotions.” She continued, “Just imagine that. See yourself in my place. How would you respond?” She had been a slave to her emotions—allowing them to control and exploit her. People always took pity upon the sad-eyed “little girl”…
Well, not anymore. A wicked smile crossed Depression’s features. No, not anymore. She threw the blue velvet dress back into her large wooden clothing chest, and unfolded a red gown instead.

----

Naomi Rebecca DuMont woke up with a start. She stared down, her head tilted slightly to the left. She was floating above her human body. She sighed, her exhalation silent in her spirit form. Naomi hovered for a moment, lighter than the air, staring down at this incarnation of herself. It was fair-skinned and tiny, with waist-length straight dark hair. She looked frail in the dim night lighting, more frail even than the body in her dream-memory. But she looked older too. Whereas the dream-memory version of Naomi looked about fourteen, the body below her looked around twenty-two or twenty-three years of age. She did not mind looking older—in fact, she figured that within the century, she would look young once more. It was the result of immortality, after all.

Naomi sighed again, this time closing her tired eyes and taking a deep breath. She moved closer to the wall on her left, where on the other side she knew a man and his wife slept. She moved through the wall, and looked down at the sleeping couple. She frowned slightly, her eyes narrowed and placed a hand on each of the figures. She drew out of their bodies the energy from their sweet dreams. The two would still feel “refreshed” in the morning—perhaps a tad tired, but not completely lethargic. She lifted her hands and floated back through the wall, strengthened by the couple’s energy. Naomi was not a “bad person” for doing this…she just could not be alone in this depressing state anymore. A smile touched her lips, a faint smile that did not reach her eyes. Yes, it felt good to bring others into the darkness with her. Naomi would not pretend to be all “good” anymore. Like in her dream-memory, she would not be that “sad little girl”.

Naomi’s spirit body was beginning to feel heavy, as it always did if she stayed out of her body for long. She was not able to more even a floor away from her body—it put too much strain on her spirit and mind. Mia slowly descended into her body. It came together with her spirit almost instantaneously. Naomi felt the chilly air upon her bare skin and pulled her covers closer to her curled body. Her dark grey eyes had opened when her soul and body gelled as one, now they closed again, in peace. She almost wished her sister were here to see how much the world had changed…Dear Hope. Lost Hope. In the past, Hope gave Naomi something to strive for, something to struggle against…it was almost getting too easy for Naomi. Almost, but not quite.

Naomi’s eyes popped open suddenly. She once more tasted the couple’s emotionally charged energy that was coursing through her body. Something was different tonight. This did not taste as it usually did. Her body was rigid and still for a moment longer. The irony hit her upside the head. Be careful what you wish for, she thought with a frown. “Welcome back, sister” Naomi whispered out loud into the darkness, her eyes glittering harshly.

----

Naomi woke up once more, glancing over at her mechanical clock on her bedside table. 10:15 am. Seven hours passed in sleep since she had woken up before. The cool spring sunshine lit up the room, in spite of the marine layer of fog rolling off from the ocean. She frowned deeply. Gods, she missed Moscow—the extreme cold, the rarity of the sun. Perfect. Even Seattle, Washington was better than this sunny hell. Naomi had never liked the sun—it exhausted her beyond measure. When something brought her fatigue, she more or less avoided it. Exhaustion was already a part of her emotion, when one added another source of tiredness, it became almost unbearable. Naomi much preferred the fluttering, cool weight of snow upon her cheeks to the warm sun rays.

So what was she doing in Southern California?

Naomi half wondered that herself, sitting up in her queen-sized bed. She had been comfortable in Moscow. More than comfortable. She had almost felt accepted in Moscow—a rare feeling for the sorrow-filled emotion. It was cold and dark in Moscow. Things had not quite picked up since the fall of the Soviet Union. It was just the way Naomi liked it. Here in Southern California though it was sunny and bright. If an individual did not like the situation they were in, they changed it—plastic surgery and a headstrong ego worked wonders. All the same, this was not a place for Naomi.

Naomi stood and walked over to her bathroom. She started the shower and shed her heavy sleep wear. She preferred to sleep in heavy pajamas out of habit. She was used to colder locations. Naomi stepped into the hot shower, allowing her pores to soak it all up. Her hair became sleeker and darker underneath the water. She lathered her “Breeze” scented soap across her body and washed it off. In her mind, Naomi planned. What would it be like now that Hope returned? What would Naomi do in order to keep her power? The real question was what wouldn’t she do.

Twenty minutes passed and Naomi exited the bathroom wearing a dark robe and a towel in her hair. It didn’t take long for her to find a suitable outfit and put it on. She now wore a dark grey calf-length skirt, a pair of dark tights and boots. Her shirt was a long sleeved, black boat-neck. She pulled her thin, damp hair into a low pony tail and put on mascara. Mascara was the only makeup that Naomi put on daily. She thought that this body looked better with her eyes darkened. Soon, she was ready to leave the apartment. She grabbed her purse and a banana and walked out of her home.

Naomi locked the door to her apartment and walked down the hall slowly. She peered out the windows. Once again she allowed herself to consider the weather. It was a constant thorn in her side. She hoped silently that the fog would stay. Gods how that would be nice…But it seemed that it would be another sunny day come afternoon. Damn it. Naomi walked up across the hall to another apartment’s door. This was where Damien Illage lived. She knocked on the door and leaned close to it, "Damien, darling, I'm going out. Do you want to try going out into the big bad city again?" part of her tone was sarcastic, but part of it was affectionate. She had been around the emotion of fear long enough to know that she could use that tone. He was one of the emotions that was truly like a son to her. He seemed to think along the lines of "Mommy Knows Best". It was wonderful devotion.

Blowing flame, red ash, smoke….Destruction. Addison was standing in the middle of it. Her body felt strong. In spite of the smoke, she was not coughing. She looked down at herself…This wasn’t quite her body. No, this was not the “Addison” she saw in a mirror every day. She was different. More powerful. Stronger. More in control. Her golden hair flared around her like lapping flames, and a smile appeared on her face. She could definitely get used to this.

It took fifteen minutes of a jarringly loud alarm and a fist pounding on her door to wake Addison Carter up from her deep sleep. Even as she shut her alarm clock off and sat up, her brain was still half-asleep. The dream was lost in the glare of the morning light. Addison glared at the time. Six twenty in the morning. She was not pleased. A yawn tore its way through her lips and she stretched her body out, staring with blinking eyes up at the smooth white ceiling. Another five minutes passed before Addi put her feet over the edge of her bed and stood. Her shoulders slumped and she picked her way through the stuff that littered her floor to get to her dresser drawers for clothes. She took her showers at night in order to avoid waking up earlier. Addison hated mornings—she especially hated the before-her-coffee feeling. Coffee. Her blue-green eyes brightened with the thought of the beverage—mixed with milk (never half-and-half, god forbid.) to create a wonderful golden brown color. Her mouth watered. She could almost taste it.

”Addison Rose, get out of bed. You’ll be late!” her mother yelled, pounding on the door.
”I’m awake, Mom! I’m even standing up!” Addison called back, her voice was on edge. She heard her mom mutter something as she walked away from the door, her footfalls quick and easy on the wood floor. Addison pulled a pair of shorts from the drawer. She took off her pajama boxers and pulled on the cut off, distressed denim shorts. She turned to her closet and pulled out a shirt at random. It was black with an image of a tiger head on it. She shrugged. Good enough. She pulled her cami off of her body with a yawn and, turning back to her dresser with the shirt in hand, went through the top drawer before pulling out a black, polka-dot bra, which she clasped on her body. She threw the shirt on and retrieved a pair of black flats from the floor. Almost done…coffee soon. She thought, picking up a brush and running it through her thick blond hair. She put a hair band around her wrist deciding to style it later.

There was a soft knock on Addison’s door as she was about to put mascara on her eyelashes. She looked confused for a moment. It didn’t sound like her mother’s speedy knock, nor Danny’s playful one. Addi walked over to the door and opened it. Her younger brother stood in front of her, holding a steaming portable cup. Addison felt a wave of love for Jake. He rarely did these types of things for her. ”What did you do to it?” She joked with a smirk.
”Oh, you know, poisoned it.” he teased right back with a small smile but it quickly turned into a frown. ”Nah, really I just want to get to school on time today.”
”I knew this was too good to be true.” Addison rolled her eyes, grabbed the coffee and shut the door in Jake’s face, the previous affectionate feeling was lost. She breathed in the divine aroma and set it aside. It was still too hot to touch. The aroma was still calming her though. She applied her light make up easily and grabbed her messenger bag, stuffing her wallet and keys in it. She paused at the doorway to check her phone. There was a text message. She opened it and began reading it. It was from Min Hee Park (Or “Minnie Mouse”, as Addison liked to call her). The girl could be a b***h sometimes but Addi admired her confidence.

To: Minnie Mouse
From: Addi
Message: Hey, hey. Don’t jinx the day already.
I had such a hard time waking up this morning.
Why can’t school start at noon, again?
Anyway, ya, I’ll see you there!

Addison pressed the “send” button on the screen of her android phone and the text was sent. She was about to close the phone when she remembered someone else. Her lips turned up and she opened a new message.
”Come on, Addison! We’re going to be late!” her brother yelled from the front of the house, sounding frustrated.
”HOLD ON!” She yelled back, her temper flaring for a brief moment. She stuffed it back down and took a deep breath, then she began to type out another text.

To: Triss
From: Addi
Message: Hope your lazy self is out of bed.
School begins in twenty-three minutes.
I’ll see you there!

Addison sent the text and looked at the time again, finally comprehending what it said. s**t! I can’t be late again. She had been late to school three times already this year. She was setting a record for herself. The next tardy would land her a seat in detention. She so did not want that.

”Let’s go!” Addi called, rushing into the kitchen for an apple. She threw open the back door and practically ran to her 2003, dark red Honda Civic. Her brother sprinted out after her, opening the passenger side door. Addison slipped into the car, putting her bag in the backseat. “This Fire” by Franz Ferdinand pumped in through the speakers. She slammed her door, buckled her seat belt and reversed the car. Thankfully, the middle school and the high school were near to each other.

Addison drove quickly, dropping her brother off with eighteen minutes to spare. He wouldn’t be late. She pulled out of the middle school parking lot and drove three blocks, entering the high school lot. Many of the parking spaces were taken but luckily Addison found one. She breathed a sigh of relief and parked her car smoothly into the spot. She had time to spare. Weird, she thought, pulling her messenger bag towards her and exiting the vehicle. Addison happily took a drink of her coffee and waved to several passing students then locked her car. Her strides were long as she walked away from the parking lot toward the front of the building. Two students were there. They were both older than Addi herself but they ran in some of the same social circles. This didn’t mean that they were friends, however. On the contrary, Addison always felt like there was some tension between the male—Lane—and herself. It wasn’t fair. Lane was sexy and Addison would have been interested. Why couldn’t they just get along? The red headed girl he was standing with was supposed to be extremely intelligent. A nerd. Addi didn’t really know her. Regardless of her feelings toward the two, she waved sweetly to them. ”Hey, guys.” She flashed them a friendly smile before entering the building. She greeted many of the students around her, sipping her coffee whenever she could. It was almost empty. Addison stopped by her locker, putting in the code and opened it. She glanced at her hands noticing the ugly white scars. She sighed. Why do they have to be so visible? she thought with a faint frown. She grabbed her books, slammed the door shut again and looked up. She saw a familiar body and went toward it.
”Minnie!” Addi called, reaching the shorter girl in no time. She didn’t offer her usual hug as she knew how the girl felt about others touching her. Addison shook her hair back from her face and smiled.

Ivy Rose Marks • Playfulness

Ivy tossed her head back in tune with the beating house music. Her golden blond hair flew back seductively. Her body pulsed to the music; it overwhelmed her. Sweat broke out across her body. A man danced behind her, his pelvis often grazing her back. The man’s hand grabbed Ivy’s and spun her around. He tried to pull her closer to him but she danced lightly out of his grip with a giggle and a teasing “Tsk tsk” motion with her pointer finger. She smiled and backed up more, making her way through the crowd. She lost sight of the male and began dancing again. Her movements were seductive and charming all rolled into one. She was not the greatest dancer in the room but most of the guys around her still couldn't take their eyes off of her. They were drawn to her because of her emotion. It was appealing...fun. On some level they acknowledged who she was but they batted it away with knowledge and logic. They didn't understand.

Soon, Ivy’s body felt much too hot. As she made her way to the glass patio door, she sw individuals experiencing her emotion. A few guys were teasing a girl with short brown hair; others were setting up to scare a man coming down the hall. Ivy’s lips pulled up into a dazzling smile. She slid open the door and stepped out, vaguely wondering where her purse was. She pushed the thought away and turned her attention to a female smoker. “Hey, Can I bum a cig?” She asked, her voice slightly accented from her years in London. The girl nodded and handed Ivy a cigarette and her lighter. Ivy took the items, put the cigarette into her mouth and lit it. She took a deep breath. She was not an addict but it was nice to try one every once and awhile. She liked the experience. Ivy was an experience-junkie, if anything.

Ivy turned toward a table near the door and grabbed a cup. She took a sip of the beer, pulling the cig from her mouth to do so. Just a little bit gross, she thought, but shrugged and took another drink anyway. She liked mixed drinks more than beer but something was better than nothing. Ivy turned around and looked out over the backyard, replacing the cig and taking a breath. The house was just outside of Los Angeles. It was a nice house—although not a mansion, it was bigger than her apartment. Ivy noticed beforehand that almost everyone was a college student. They were around her body’s physical age— though no one had anything on her real age. She turned her emerald green eyes toward the lit up pool and hot tub. Ivy was pretty sure that the hot tub was full to capacity. Some people wore swimsuits, others wore just undergarments and still others wore nothing at all.

Ivy tucked a blond strand behind her ear. Borden was beginning to filter into her mind. She slipped her slender android phone from the pocket of her leg-hugging, dark wash skinny jeans. She glanced at the time…4:30am. She had been here for nearly three hours now. Ivy came here from a club and before that, a pre-party. She let out a small yawn, taking the cigarette out of her mouth again. She dropped the butt on the ground and stepped on it with her pump-clad foot. She adjusted her flowy black tank top and fluffed her hair. She planned on getting her purse and leaving. She really wanted to just go home. Ivy was distracted when she entered the home. Something was off…Ivy scanned the room, looking for the change.

People were laughing. Hard. It was not the “normal” drunken giggles either. It was…Amusement. True amusement. It wasn’t at anyone’s expense either. It had been like this before…just not recently. Ivy’s mild grin expanded. Later today she would have to find Happiness. He would know what was going on. He would know if she returned.

It was 5:25 when Ivy stumbled into the apartment that she shared with Amanda—the human. She was still riding high with the emotions from the night. The alcohol didn’t help either. She stripped her clothes off as she made her way to the bathroom. When she got there, Ivy turned on the water in the shower and stepped under the shower head. As she scrubbed her body, she thought about the implications of the new feelings that she felt at the party. She was still in thought when she crawled under the covers. Had Hope really returned? Ivy fell asleep with the question still on her mind.

We all feel the influence of emotions. Unfortunately, Depression has been ruling the world for close to thirty years now. Hope has not been truly in this realm since the Renaissance—she left in grief when the soul of her human familiar disappeared. Nobody knew at the time why Hope left the world. They assumed she would be back quickly. When it became apparent that she was still not there…Happiness made it his mission to defeat Depression. He assumed he could do it. He did not understand who Depression was, however, or what she could control. Depression does not bring the emotion of sadness alone,—though it is commonly thought to be that emotion-- she brings hopelessness and loss in her wake. In this case, her polar opposite is not Happiness at all. It is not only the rays of Happiness that make depression quiver; it is Hope. Now it is a time for change. Pandora recently found Hope’s familiar and he is now back on the Earth. Now that he has returned, it is time for Hope to come back to the world…

For different groups the return of Hope means different things. For the minions of Depression this means it’s time to wreck the emotional order once and for all. They have grown used to their power and are unwilling to give it up. For the followers of the light, of Happiness, Hope’s return means that they must search with more vigor. They MUST find Hope. They must find a way to fight back. It is the only way to defeat Depression. For the neutral parties—often called the cohorts of Hope—they seem to believe that they can find Hope easily, but they don’t view her as a weapon. The neutral parties don’t really want to get rid of Depression; they want balance.

To have balance, however…all sides must be in agreement. Would everyone be willing to agree?

Passionate:
Kalista loves to experience emotion in big ways. On the one hand, She is not one to downplay how she feels; on the other hand, she is not dramatic or Hellenistic. Kalista is passionate. At the same time, she is often seen as unpredictable because of this passionate connection to the world of her emotions. She can be fierce but gentle, at times envious but then forgiving. Her passionate personality is mostly seen in terms of bedroom activities but it runs deeper than that. She is passionate by all of the things that are inherently beautiful—art, music, dance, gardens, nature, et cetera.

Vain:
Though she loves and cares for other people, Kalista is also a little vain. She has been known to spend millions of dollars on clothes and thousands on a single trip to the salon. Throughout history, she has also been rumored to fly into a rage whenever someone claims that their beauty surpasses her own. But then, all of the gods have done that… haven’t they?

Gregarious:
Kalista is very extroverted, effervescent, and sociable. She is charming, energetic and always willing to flirt. She can get along or at least communicate with most individuals and she loves to be out in the world. You would not catch this deity all by herself for a prolonged period of time. Though like most people, however, Kalista does like her times of solitude. Sometimes, her gregarious nature comes across as manipulative and sometimes she is intending to be so, but there are other times when she is not.

Carnal:
Kalista is sexy, provocative, and sensual. She has a wealth of worldly knowledge even if her IQ is not very high. Kali indulges in her sexuality and she is not afraid to let it show. She believes that sex is not only about pleasure or love; it’s about connecting two people and deriving comfort and joy from that connection. Kalista is also very unfaithful, as evidenced by her numerous affairs with men over the years.

Kalista’s abilities were enhanced with the use of her magic girdle, although her whole power was in part her innate power, her beauty and her personality as well. The magic girdle made her irresistible to everyone—human and God alike. The desirability was based upon two things--an emotional connection and a physical one. The emotional connection could be accomplished by controlling or influencing the emotion of the person. The physical side was found in her ability to transform certain parts of herself (also known as shape-shifting). These two abilities allowed her to be irresistible to most people. Her girdle started losing its power when she started losing her power. The girdle is actually fueled by her power. Now, she is used to relying on her beauty and her charming personality to win people over and get what she wants. This does not mean she's completely given up using what minor abilities she can (influencing some of the emotional atmosphere, for example, or changing her eye color).

Oh, I am what I am

Oh, I am what I am
I'll do what I wantxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxBut I can't hide.

Jayde listened to the talk around her, adding the occasional nod but also wondering where her team was. She took a bite of her sandwich and was about to offer up her body for Serafina’s experiments but her opportunity was lost. She picked up her lemonade and took a drink of it, feeling the change in the air around her. She put her drink down not a second before her chair started moving back and forth. “T-r- i-i-i-p!” She yelled, knowing full well who was causing her chair to move. She could not get herself to stop moving enough to use her own ability (or perhaps, she didn’t care enough) before she stopped. Her brunette teammate plopped into the seat next to her. She stuck out her tongue before saying, “Hey, Trip.” The boy was like family in this large school—one of her very best friends. When she wanted to run away from the school in the past, he was there. He did not necessarily tell her not to go but he followed her, made sure she would be okay. She also treated Trip like a person—a regular individual. She knew of other students who might treat him with more respect because of who his parents were but Jay didn’t. She did not care who the boy’s parents or sister was, just as she hoped her teammates would not care who her own were. Then there was also the practical joke component…the two were always trying to trick each other…Which is why Jayde was quiet. She wanted to pay the pressure genius back. Unfortunately, she felt the air around him shifting and tensing. No. She would not do it now. Not while the boy was ready for it. Instead, she blew a small puff of freezing air at him. As retaliations went, it was small and rather like an A.C. drift. Hopefully, however, it would give him a sense of complacency later on. Jayde grinned impishly. Yes, later.

Jay listened as her teammates talked, planning her vengeance and taking a bit of her sandwich. She listened to Serafina’s suggestion and another smile came on to her lips. Fun. Of course she wanted to have fun. She wiggled slightly in her chair but stayed seated in it until the others were some distance away. She wanted to awaken her legs and her body. A sprint should do the trick, she thought. Jayde was easily one of the fastest on the team—if not the fastest. It went with her air ability. The wind could rush by, clocking indescribable speeds. There was nothing quite like it. When she heard Serafina, she stood. She watched Trip disarm the tray. Then the fire…ooh fire. There was something she could play with. She could snuff it out or make it stronger…choices, choices. She twirled away from her seat, the wind picking up slightly.

Jayde watched Trip leave and she got herself ready. ”Join us if you want, Tai, but I’m going to go help.” She replied. Her feet carried her away. The wind moving beneath them. She was a blur—“dancing on the wind”. She got the group and moved her hands, orchestrating in the air. A violent wind passed over her own teammates. A little greeting. A little taste of what was to come if this continued. ”Hello,” Jayde said cheerfully, ”You guys do know who you’re taking on right?” her eyebrows rose with the question, as she looked at the freshmen. Her lips turned up. One of the freshies looked at her, ready to move toward her. ”No, no. Bad.”, She scolded playfully, ”You need to stay where you are until you answer my question, silly.” She could feel Trip’s control over the air pressure in the immediate area. But still, the girl played. Her professors often told her off for doing this. It gave her opponent room to plan. This situation was different however. These kids did not have much trained. “I don’t give a s**t who you are. I’m still going to kick your a**.” the freshie said defiantly. A light laugh left Jayde’s lips. She wished she could have a go with the pyro—being able to screw with his flame abilities would be ever so fun—but she would settle for a different type of play time. With two members of the opposition being held out of the fight by the two males of her team, Jayde felt as though this last opponent was her own. The crowd was growing around the freshmen and the senior teams. Across the wind she heard whispers. New students asked what the blond addition (Jayde) could do and others responded. They knew but they somewhat underestimated her it seemed. These responses did not phase the elemental.

Her freshman challenger took a step and Jayde readied herself for a frontal attack. It only took her a quick moment to evaluate the scene and respond. By the boy’s posturing he would be attacking from the…he was gone with a small pop. Jayde’s eyes narrowed slightly. Well crap. A teleporter. Maybe he really left or maybe… She heard the tell tale pop a half second before she instinctually moved. The air currents felt differently when the boy moved through it with his power. ”Interesting.” She always found teleporters very interesting seeing as her ability, once mastered could have that illusion. No, it would not be as quick, as seamless, as powerful as a teleporter but she would be able to ride the wind. The kick was aimed at her spine. A perfect kick, if not a tad slow. It was too slow. The moment’s notice she had received was enough. She had moved in time although the kick still grazed her arm. Jayde turned around, her movements fluid, graceful. But there was another pop. She did not know where he would turn up next but if she could guess…something in the air felt fuzzy to her left. She could not name it but it was not within her control. She moved evasively from that position. The boy appeared. Once he noticed her attention, he winked out again.

A confident easy smile appeared on Jayde’s face. Search for the movement in the air, focus the manipulation around the area, knock him out. The best way to end this would be to knock the kid out. This way, he would be contained. Simply holding him as Trip was doing to one of the other opponents would not work. The scene was unfolding rapidly. The majority of the time spent with the freshman was perhaps spent talking to him in the beginning. She knew not many could understand what was happening. She and the freshmen were going from stationary to blurred in less than ten seconds. Her mind took to the air, seeking the break in the air current. Unfortunately, she was too slow this time. A blow hit her right cheek. Her head whipped. A pop and the kid was gone. Her eyes watered with the sting. ”Nice one.” Jayde commented, ”But it won’t happen again.” It was not for pride that she said this. It was for knowledge. The first blow never failed to increase her determination. Her body rose in the air with a graceful movement of her hands and feet. The air pocket of difference was easier to find this time. He was searching for her, darting. Jayde forced herself to take a deep breath. His movements were getting slower, his stamina not quite built up yet. Jayde was not breaking a sweat. Her feet touched the ground again, her stalling technique finished. Her hands and arms twisted and the wind gathered, twisting rapidly in itself as if two lovers entwined. She pushed it away from herself….right at the speck of difference in the air. She heard a short shout. Predictably he thought where the air was, Jayde was. She had made sure there was something solid (a lunch tray) in the wind to trick him. The tray dropped and so did the boy. The wind died down. Jayde blinked and her breath was hard in her chest. She could not always accomplish that trick. It required whirlwind speeds that were not always in her control.

”Well, then.” She said cheerfully, ”Of course that would work for a freshman…but for a final exam that has the power to control my destiny at this school? Nu-uh.” She giggled. The whole fight lasted two minutes. She knew it was her pent up energy that allowed her to do that to the freshman opponent. Her light eyes took in the scene, noticing the crowd around them, winder now with the whirlwind demonstration, then her eyes traveled to Serafina’s fight. Fierce Serafina against emotional pyro freshman. This should be over soon. With a flick of her wrist and a picture of her purse in her mind, something came whizzing through the air. She caught her purse easily and set it on the ground beside her.

Location: Outside with Serafina, Trip, Aiden and some idiot Freshies.
