xIsaac flipped a page in the book he held, his gaze moving from the words to the computer screen that occupied a large portion of the back wall of his lab. One side of the screen was dominated by an enlarged image of a fingerprint, certain points of it highlighted as unique to the owner. The other side was flashing through numerous images of other prints searching for a match within the system.

So far CODIS hadn't turned up a match, partial or otherwise, and until it did he was essentially stuck playing the waiting game. He had no other cases to focus on at the moment, which was why he was settled at his desk with a mythology book resting on his lap and loud music blaring through the speakers. Thankfully the music couldn't be heard outside the walls of his lab, otherwise he was certain he'd have been yelled at to turn it down by now. Still, one would think that in a city as crime ridden as Downing, there would be something going on that needed his attention.

Glancing at the clock on the wall, he groaned softly and let his head drop to the desk with a dull thump. The day had barely started, which meant he was going to be sitting here for hours either reading or staring at the screen like a zombie. Neither option seemed particularly appealing, and with one last look at the screen, he snapped his book shut, turned off his music, and left his lab, making sure to lock the door behind him.

He had his system set to page him if a match was found so he was free to wander about the building as much as he wanted. Perhaps there was someone else about that he could harass for a while until they got fed up enough to order him back to his room like a little boy caught raiding the cookie jar. It had happened before, but for the most part the officers seemed to be entertained more than annoyed by his antics, which meant he rarely got into any real trouble. x

            Second in Command

    W E A P O N S
Josh's main weapons are both standard police issue. One being a Smith &Wesson .45 caliber pistol, and the other being a Smith & Wesson .9mm. Aside from that he carries a small tazer for dealing with people he can't actually shoot, and a boot knife.

    S T R E N G T H S
Josh has the unusual ability to tell when someone is lying or not, almost like a living lie detector. It isn't some unnatural quirk or anything, it simply stems from the fact that he can read people rather well. Everyone has a tell or two when they lie, and so far, he's very rarely been wrong. He's a free runner, or parkour specialist, something he picked up when he was a teenager. He uses that particular skill whenever he has the need to chase down a particularly unwilling suspect.

    W E A K N E S S E S
He's got a major soft spot for homeless kids, not because he ever was one, but because he genuinely wishes he could help them in some way. He also has a tendency to bend the rules in some situations, something that has gotten him in trouble in the past and even in the present. Lastly there is his tendency to put the safety of those around him above his own, even to the point of putting himself in life threatening situations.

    P E R S O N A L I T Y
Joshua is a very sweet man for the most part, always trying to help out where and when he can, even if it's inconvenient for him. He's rather playful as well, the sort that tries to lighten the mood when things seem to be at their worst. He has a very strong sense of justice, though unlike others, he doesn't always think the legal way is the best route (though he has never actually broken the law himself, save a few minor instances). He's always been the sort to question, never the sort to just blindly accept what he's been told. Joshua also has quite a temper, though it's one of those that is slow to boil over. When it does though, everyone had better be on their toes because he really explodes when it happens.

    B I O G R A P H Y
Joshua grew up leading what most would call the easy life. His parents were both from well off families, and they were both rather successful themselves, amassing quite the fortune by the time their only child was born. As a result, Joshua was spoiled rotten while he grew up, but he never let it go to his head.

Unlike a lot of kids from families like his, he didn't expect things to just be handed to him because of his name or because he demanded it. His parents made sure that, even though they were willing to provide him with everything he wanted, he would have to work for it to some extent such as doing chores when he was younger, or getting good grades at school. Later, they expected him to get a job of his own, to learn the value of working hard and earning the respect of others. These lessons would serve him well in life, and so he was more than willing to learn them, even when they sometimes frustrated him.

After he graduated high school, he decided to enter the Police Academy, and train to become an officer. He graduated by the time he'd hit twenty-one, and was soon out on the streets doing something to give back to the world. He'd been an officer for close to seven years when the accident happened. He and his partner had been sent to handle what should have been a simple domestic disturbance, but things went pear shaped and the whole case fell apart. By the end of it, his partner was dead, Joshua had been shot twice in the chest, and the woman who had initially made the call was badly beaten by her deranged husband before he killed himself.

Both Joshua and the woman survived the encounter, but it left him with a sense of survivor's guilt that wouldn't leave him. Eventually, his commanding officer thought it would be best if he was transferred to a different department, to get him away from all of the reminders of his partner. He was sent to Downing to fill a vacant position, and has since risen through the ranks to become the second in command, answerable only to the Police Chief.

    M I S C E L L A N E O U S
      - Josh's middle name was originally supposed to be the name of his twin sister, but she was still born. While they still put her name on her birth certificate, they also gave it to him as a way to honor her. (Make fun of it at your own peril).

      - He has a calla lily tattooed on the inside of his right wrist, and a dreamcatcher on his back.

-He has scars from the bullet wounds he suffered during that disastrous case, and has been known to rub at them whenever he's feeling stressed.

      - He's got two cats, Fey and Bella

      - Lastly, Josh is richer than dirt, but you wouldn't know it just by looking at him.

Joshua C. O'Conner

x

The low rumble of one, or both of his feline companions purring roused Joshua from sleep, though he was reluctant to move from the warmth of his bed. He had to work however, and with a tired yawn, he rolled himself out of bed and stumbled to the bathroom to shower. He was out rather quickly, having perfected the art of showering in ten minutes or less years ago. That, and if he took any longer, his cats would start up a ruckus loud enough to wake the dead as they demanded to be fed. Leaving the bathroom, towel wrapped firmly about his hips, he made his way downstairs to get their food ready before returning to his room to finish getting ready for the day. Once he was fully dressed and armed, he stopped to give Bella and Fey a bit of attention. He still had a bit of time before he needed to get going, and he never left without petting them a bit before hand.

With one last pat to Fey's soft, wrinkled hide, he grabbed his phone and keys and headed for his car. He'd only just gotten situated behind the wheel when said phone went off, and he pulled it from his pocket to see what the fuss was about. The number that had been displayed on the screen was one used by the precinct, which meant it had something to do with work.

"Officer O'Conner here, what's the situation?" he asked, and listened as they described the scene in question.

Once they were finished, he promised to be there as soon as possible and hung up. It would mean being late to the office, but seeing as it was work related, Chief Kayne wouldn't be able to give him too much grief about it. Putting his car in gear, he sped down his driveway and out into the city proper, paying little attention to traffic laws on his way to the scene. He had promised to be there quickly after all, and he wouldn't want to disappoint. Coming to a screeching halt near one of the squad cars parked near the mouth of the alley, he ducked under the police tape and paused as he took in the scene in front of him.

Six men were tied up further down the alley, their scattered weapons being photographed and bagged as evidence. The men in question were in the process of being untied and cuffed when something caught Joshua's eye and, pulling on a latex glove provided by one of the others, he plucked a white feather from where it had fallen near the rope. Normally feathers wouldn't be an item of interest, but given the color and it's location, it was safe to say he knew who'd left it. It looked like their Vigilante had had a bit of fun the previous night.

"Bag that," he ordered, handing the feather off to one of the investigators, "and get these men down to processing along with all the evidence you can. I'll go on ahead and let Kayne know that we've got another Vigilante case to deal with."

Something the red headed man would not be happy to hear, given the pressure he'd recently been put under by the higher ups to take care of said problem. Stripping off the gloves he'd put on, he returned to his car and made his way to the office (obeying the law this time). Once inside, he was pointed in the direction of the briefing room when he inquired after Kayne, and he slipped inside just in time to hear the man's phone go off, followed by his embarrassed denial.

One would think being born the Cat of the Sota family would have been a bad thing, but Shigeru's parents took it in stride. They'd known it was a possibility, though they had hoped their child would not be subjected to the curse. When he transformed at his mothers touch, not into a simple cat, but into the monstrous form that was his personal curse, they knew what had to be done. The beaded bracelet that adorns his wrist keeps him from changing back into that form, and his parents have always ensured that it remained in place. Despite the stigma of being the cat's parents, his parents never shunned him, and he was raised in a household full of love and laughter. As a result, he's generally a pretty friendly guy, and he even does his best not to give into his instincts to antagonize the rat (it doesn't always work). He's not a fan of the idea of being pushed into an arranged marriage, but he's willing to put up with it if it means there's a chance his curse, and the curse on all of his family, might be lifted.

Staring blearily at his alarm, Shigeru wondered how much trouble he'd get into if he just went back to sleep and showed up late to his first day at the Joint Estate. Not that there was a time frame on their arrivals as far as he was aware, but he'd been encourage by numerous people to arrive bright and early in order to make a good impression. He was going to be spending the next year living with these people after all, and it wouldn't do to upset them already. That thought in mind, he rolled out of bed with a resigned sigh and ambled his way into the shower. He could take the time to be clean at least, and fed, because he didn't know if they'd be providing breakfast or not and he tended to get grumpy when he was hungry.
Clean and dressed, he made his way into his small kitchen to make himself some breakfast, snagging his phone on the way and dialing his mothers number. She picked up on the second ring, greeting him with a rather bubbly sounding hello, and he smiled.

“Hey mom,” he replied, “you wanted to talk to me before I left this morning right?”

“Of course dear. I wanted to wish you luck and remind you to be polite to the others at the Estate,” she began, and he groaned. Despite living on his own for the last few years, his mother insisted on treating him like he was still a little boy. Her laughter was worth it though, and he simply listened as she went on about this and that, at least until it was time for him to get moving.

“I gotta go mom, but I promise to call you tonight to tell you how my first day went,” he said, and he heard her sniff a little. No doubt she was tearing up again, but he didn't call attention to it, since he knew she wouldn't want him to.

“You'd better, and remember, try to have fun. Good bye darling.”

“Bye mom,” he murmured, hanging up and stuffing his phone into his pocket. He'd packed the night before, so it was only a matter of grabbing the two bags he intended to bring with him before he was out the door. The car from the main estate was waiting, and he shoved his things in the trunk before climbing in. The driver didn't say a word to him, something he was rather used to, and he stared out the window as they traveled. It didn't take long to reach the joint estate, and he would admit that it was a pretty nice looking place. The driver dropped him off, dumping his bags at his feet unceremoniously, and left with Shige sticking his tongue out at him.

Slinging his backpack over his shoulder, he hefted his duffle bag in the other hand and let himself in the front door. Immediately he was greeted by the sight of two women, one who was unfamiliar, and another that he recognized from his days in high school. Setting his back down, he raised his left hand in a wave, the light catching on the beads that adorned his wrist.

“Morning!” he greeted, and then grinned at the woman on the stairs. “How's it hangin' Michi? Long time no see.”

Indent The older (by a few minutes) twin brother of Princess Zelda. When his sister was shown to possess the Triforce of wisdom, she was named heir and he was given to the Sheikah clan in order to strengthen the bonds between them and the royal family. It also had the benefit of ensuring that there was no question as to who would assume the throne.

Sheik was formally adopted into the clan when he turned three, the Elders deciding that he was strong enough to survive the blood ritual that would tie him to their people in a more permanent manner. As a result of this ritual, Sheik took on some of the more common Sheikah traits, such as the crimson eyes and the slightly darker complexion. It also allowed him to use abilities only their people had ever been able to master, such as Shadow walking (the ability to move through a sort of ghost realm, located between the realm of light and the land of Twilight) and the once lost “Eye of truth” or the ability to see through illusions.

Upon turning sixteen, he went through the Rite of Adulthood and upon completing it, was given the title of 'Shadow Warrior' along with the others who had also passed the rigorous test. Afterwards, he was taken aside and the secret of his birth was revealed to him, as had been the agreement with the Royal family. While shocked at the information, and angry that such a thing had been kept from him for so long, he holds no animosity towards his sister for his lot in life, and does not even consider himself royalty, despite being branded with the Royal seal after the revelation was made.

For the next four years, he was appointed as Zelda's personal guard, though she was unaware of their relation. Shortly after the twins twentieth birthday, the King and Queen were found dead in their chambers, the cause of their death unknown. Zelda, acting the part of the bereaved daughter, held a tournament of arms to raise the spirits of her people. Unbeknownst to Sheik, or anyone else, the new Queen was actually trying to lure the bearer of the Triforce of Power, certain that they would not be able to resist such a thing.

She was correct, however, she did not ensnare the one she intended, but instead managed to lure the bearer of courage. While not the one she was expecting, she was still pleased at the development. After the boy won the tournament, Sheik brought him before Zelda, unintentionally leading him to his arrest. Unwilling to let the boy rot in prison for something he had no control over, the Sheikah hatched a plan to break him out. Once that was accomplished, the two eventually made their way to the ruins of the Temple of Time, and the resting place of the master sword, which the reluctant Link removed from it's resting place. Unfortunately for the two young men, something odd happened upon it's unsealing, and they were surrounded by an oddly shimmering light and a place Sheik had never before seen spread out before them...

Indent Ethan was born and raised on Earth, specifically the within the city of Chicago. He grew up on the streets, and ran with a gang known as the Tenth Street Reds for most of his youth. At eighteen, he left the converted warehouse the Reds were using as a makeshift home base and enlisted with the Alliance without so much as a second thought. Due to his lack of personal records, his real name and birthday are unknown, and no paper trail exists before his enlistment. He later became known as the Sole Survivor of a massacre on the human colony of Akuze, where his entire unit was wiped out by thresher maws. His survival against such odds eventually earned him a commendation to attend Interplanetary Combatives Training (ICT) or “N-school”, and he went through the training as soon as he was recovered, earning the coveted rank of N7.

He became XO of the SSV Normandy in 2183, but was later made it's CO after revealing the Spectre Saren Aterius as a rogue agent, whose aim was to aid the Reaper, Sovereign, in it's attempt to unleash the remaining Reapers upon the Galaxy. Shepard was made the first human Spectre for his role in uncovering Saren's treachery, and was assigned the task of hunting him down. After chasing the rogue spectre all across the Galaxy, Shepard eventually followed him back to the Citadel, where he prevented Saren and Sovereign from succeeding.

Six months after the defeat of Sovereign, the Normandy was attacked by an unknown vessel and destroyed, resulting in Shepard's death. However, his body was eventually recovered and handed over to an organization known as Cerberus. Under the command of the Illusive man, Miranda Lawson began the Lazerus project, and was eventually able to bring Shepard back to life. Once he woke up, the Illusive man sent him after the Collectors, who he believed to be working for the Reapers. The collectors had been targeting human colonies, and making off with their entire populations for unknown reasons. After gaining access to the collector home world, Shepard learned that they'd been using the colonists to create a human Reaper within the Collector base. Shepard destroyed the Reaper and the base, before defecting from Cerberus to rejoin the Alliance.

During his time with Cerberus, Shepard was contacted by Admiral Hackett of the Alliance, and asked to rescue a friend of his from Batarian space. He agreed, and went to rescue her, while also tasked with figuring out what they'd found before she was captured. It turned out that they had found a Reaper artifact that had given them an accurate time line for when the Reapers would reach the nearest Mass Relay from dark space. The timer showed just over two days, and Shepard agreed that destroying the Mass relay to delay their arrival was necessary. Unfortunately, the Doctor and her entire staff had been indoctrinated, and they subdued and drugged him to prevent him from doing so. He woke up with less than two hours before the arrival, and had to fight through the base in order to activate the project that would destroy the relay. Destroying the relay would also result in the destruction of the system, and everyone who lived inside it. He made an attempt the warn the Batarian Colonists, but was unable to get a signal through and as a result, over 300,000 Batarians died as a result of the projects completion.

Due to these actions, he was stripped of his rank and placed on house arrest within the Alliance headquarters in Vancouver, Canada. A few months later, the Reapers arrived and Shepard was once again thrust into the position of having to save the Galaxy. After uniting the races and gathering as many resources as they could, they took the fight back to Earth where the Reapers, and the Catalyst they needed to destroy them, were located. During the final push to the beam that would take them to the Catalyst, the Reaper known as Harbinger attempted one last time to kill Shepard once and for all, the red light of it's laser canon bearing down upon him. However, instead of dying, Shepard instead found himself in a strange place. There was no destruction, no Reapers or soldiers or anything that even appeared familiar....

Indent Mercury grew up in the mountains, away from the city proper, in the care of his father. Marcus Black was a known assassin...and also a heavy drinker. The two did not exactly get along, and one night, the two fought against one another resulting in his father's death. Cinder Fall, who had been watching the fight from a distance and hoping to recruit Marcus to her cause, instead invited Mercury after he won their battle.

Since that fateful night, Mercury has followed Cinder and been dedicated to helping her cause. He accompanied her to Vale where she, along with Emerald and Mercury, disguised themselves as students from one of the neighboring kingdoms. They're plan was a simple one, infiltrate the Vytal festival and cause as much chaos as possible, so that Cinder might be able to gain the power of the Fall maiden.

Things have become slightly more complicated with the arrival of a number of unusual strangers around the city.

IndentWith the Vytal festival in full swing, things looked to be going exactly as Cinder had planned, even with the earlier mishap with the Grimm. In some ways, it had helped with their cover, as both he and Emerald had been seen fighting against the Grimm in defense of the city. Thus far, no one had managed to see through their ruse, and Mercury was happy enough to play along, even if he was quite bored with all the waiting. The most recent round of fights had just come to an end, and their little group was following along with the tide towards the exits when Cinder paused, a frown marring her features.

indentShe had her scroll in hand, and he leaned over to see what might have caused her distraction. Two little dots of red light blinked up at him from the screen, one located somewhere in the city, and the other...was in Mountain Glenn?

indent“Interesting,” Cinder said, her voice deceptively mild. She was unhappy about something, and it was enough to pique his interest.

indent“Something wrong?” he asked, and she glanced at him.

indent“It appears that Roman has been released on good behavior, and has failed to inform me of it,”
she replied, nail tapping the red indicator over Mountain Glenn. Mercury raised an eyebrow in surprise, but said nothing, since it appeared Cinder still had something to say, her attention now fully on him.

indent“Be a good boy and find the source of this other signal, the one calling him. Follow them and report back to me once you know what's going on.”

indentNodding, he ducked into one of the air taxis that would take them to the ground. It was a quick trip, and once back on the street, he pulled out his own scroll and tapped into the signal Cinder had provided him with. They hadn't moved, and he was lucky enough to have been placed close to the one in the city. Slipping his scroll back into his pocket, he started towards the area the signal had originated from. This was going to be fun.
