Lol, sometimes I come across as a perfectionist.
But I can't have everything to my liking. D'oh! xD

Sad thing is, I'm often lazy. So I give up on trying to satisfy myself.

Anyway, I'll throw some of my random ideas too. WHICH..
I just thought up now so, some may not make sense at all.

1. The jewel holds some sort of power, so Chains (mostly the illegal ones?) want to consume it to gain that power. So basically this girl is on the run because of the jewel. But she doesn't want to give it up since it seems so important. Perhaps the jewel could be a tool to control the Abyss or something? Thus, it also gives others a reason to either try to steal it or have the girl as a killing target. [ in this situation... maybe an organization like Pandora is trying to protect the girl, but also want to use the jewel's power to their advantage... i'unno, lol? ]

2. Like you said... when the jewel left the Abyss, it came out of one of the duke houses. So, this girl happened to be lurking around one of the doors (a door to the Abyss of whatever duke house she's in) and she came in contact with the jewel. By some insane power, something happened. And, we could have what happened to Oz and she travels either back/forward in time. As for the rest, I haven't thought this out that far.

3. Same scenario as #2 but instead of time travel, the girl gets stuck in the Abyss. Also, to change things up a bit for things to make sense... there are actually four jewels (for each of the duke houses). So each noble came into contact with one jewel and they're all trapped in the Abyss. To get out, they must find the supposed fifth jewel (considering there are actually five doors) to escape from the Abyss. Well, for this... the story is centered around them being trapped in the Abyss. Along the way, I guess they made contracts with Chains and such.
