Delaney . Jorryn . Rouse

Oh, Miss Delaney
What's the matter?
You waited by the window,
I waited by the door.
Oh, Miss Delaney,
Where's your boyfriend?
He isn't up in heaven,
So why treat him like he's dead?

- She had little objection to the just sitting for a little bit idea, knowing that she would still get to play one the swings. Really, for an adult human, she still had the mindset of a one-hundred-year-old mermaid, which in their world, was still very much a child. but how could she not have that childlike fun? It was what she had worked for for much of her life. Swinging on swings every once in awhile still made her happy. And really? Sometimes people who could easily be pleased by the small things lived happier lives.
The other reason she had little objection was because then she got the chance to eat her corn muffin and drink her latte. She let Kalani pick their spot, dropping to the ground and crossing her legs gracefully. Hey, if anything, she could be one of the more graceful tales around. Yes, even she had her vanities. It didn't help that she somehow ended up surrounded by so many beautiful tales. She was just the plain jane little mermaid, missing the one thing that really made her stand out.
Her voice.
It was a well known story in Haven, why the former mermaid could not talk. The curse that she had taken on willingly, out of childlike stubourrness. The sea witch had warned her, and Delaney had then ignored her. And thus she was left voiceless, trying to earn back her ability to speak from a man that didn't really love her. Centuries later, the curse was still there, despite the fact that it should've left her when she was supposed to die. And for now, Delany had to be content with Mowgli as her means of communication, or with sign language or pen and paper.
There was a way. A way to get her voice back, or she was fairly sure she had found one. But it involved something that would have her break one of the biggest rules that kept Haven safe. And well, she probably would've by now, if Kalani didn't keep talking reason to her.
Closing her eyes and taking a bite of her corn muffin, she tried to free her mind of all of those thoughts. She chewed slowly and only opened her eyes again when Kalani asked if she was okay. Swallowing, she nodded, her usual shy smile forming on her face. Fine, just thinking. she told him through their special connection, her hand brushing his shoulder so he can hear her. Now there was the biggest mystery in all of Haven, how the two of them were able to communicate that way, but it didn't work when Delaney touched anyone else.
"About what?" Kalani asked, breaking off a piece of her muffin and popping it into her mouth, then taking a sip of her latte. She let it slip, because he had technically payed for it today, since there were those days he 'forgot' to charge her. She really wished he wouldn't but there was no way to stop the stubborn jungle man.
Her hand rested lightly on his knee, conveying the thoughts she allowed to pass through their connection. Uhm... she didn't want to start him on his worrying over her desire to be able to use her voice once again. There were worse problems in Haven, and this one she would be able to solve all on her own one day. She just had to convince everyone that Ozz wasn't a threat to their Haven. And she had to make sure Ozz was really who she thought she was. Those weren't things that Kalani could do for her, so why trouble him with it?
Her tongue slid around her mouth, pressing against the metal backing of her monroe piercing, thus giving her something to tell Kalani. The piercing was reletivly new, barely healed. Just the same old thing, wondering why poking holes in your skin is so fasionable to humans. he told him.
"If you think they're so odd, Laney, then why did you get it done?"
Well, they're odd... but they're also pretty. I just wonder why they're so fasionable with the humans. she said, shrugging her shoulders. Well, it was. With both the human tales and the regular humans. She was a mermaid at heart though, and they had never done anything of the like under the sea. Then again, humans would fine some mermaid fashions quite odd she supposed.
Kalani shook his head and looked like he was about to speak, but another voice, coming from behind them, made her jump and remove her hand from his knee, and stopped him from saying anything. She looked back to see another resident of Haven, Belle, and she smiled slightly up at the other female. Delaney wasn't particularly close to Belle, but then again, she wasn't all that close to many of the residents of Haven aside from Kalani. Only Georgie and Scotty really. Most of her interaction with other tales was limited to plesantries and small talk.
Really, she let Kalani speak for them, only touching his knee when something occured to her. She's human, maybe she knows. Ask her. she insisted. Kalani looked at her for a moment, then laughed, looking back to Belle.
"So Delaney and I were talking, and we wanted to know why you humans consider piercings so fashionable. She thinks you might know." he said to Belle.
Whatever answer Belle was giving, Delaney's attention was quickly drawn to the dog that was now rushing up between them. Dulce meant one thing to her. She looked up, looking for the dog's owner, barely hearing Kalani's words to Belle. "It's the human girl's dog." Yes, with Belle, Ozz was just 'the human girl'. She supposed Belle would take off now, not many people wanted anything to do with a human in Haven. Delaney did though. And even if Isabelle took her leave, Laney could care less as she smiled at Ozz, who was close to them now.
She moved closer to Kalani, making sure that her bare knee touched his, the were both in shorts for the warm day, her denim shorts that stopped just below her mid thigh combined with a loose fitting poncho-like crop top and a pair of strappy sandles. Delaney had never been able to grasp the human concept of keeping skin covered and why showing skin meant something bad. Of course, mermaids had no such modesty, and so she thought nothing of something as harmless as showing off her legs and a bit of her stomach. Having Kalani touching her as discreetly as possible was important for his translating for her. He didn't really know sign language as well as she did, and while he knew a bit, there was no way he would actually be able to translate for her if he couldn't hear what she was trying to say. She waved as Ozz finally got close to them and greeted them, turning to signing as Kalani gave his own greeting.
Please sit, how are are you? she moved her hands quickly, forming the signs she had know for so long with ease. She looked at Mowgli as he translated her words into less formal terms, knowing it was near impossible for her to be relaxed around the other female.
"She's asking you to sit and wants to know how you're doing." Delaney couldn't help if it didn't sound as polite and rigid coming out of his mouth. At least he knew what she wanted to sound like but couldn't. She was far too preoccupied with the electricity that crackled in her veins when she was in the presence of Ozz. Of course said presence went against every major rule of Haven there was. Forget about all the magic set on the street to make sure that no human was any real threat to them. That didn't matter if she ever decided to state directly to Ozz their origins, a matter she always faught with herself on.
Mowgli, it's not fair. she didn't sign this time, it wasn't meant to be part of the conversation. It was a private comment to Kalani, and he knew just exactly what she was calling unfair.
