Oh, Miss Delaney
What's the matter?
You waited by the window,
I waited by the door.
Oh, Miss Delaney,
Where's your boyfriend?
He isn't up in heaven,
So why treat him like he's dead?

╚═══════════════════════════════╝

She had little objection to the just sitting for a little bit idea, knowing that she would still get to play one the swings. Really, for an adult human, she still had the mindset of a one-hundred-year-old mermaid, which in their world, was still very much a child. but how could she not have that childlike fun? It was what she had worked for for much of her life. Swinging on swings every once in awhile still made her happy. And really? Sometimes people who could easily be pleased by the small things lived happier lives.

The other reason she had little objection was because then she got the chance to eat her corn muffin and drink her latte. She let Kalani pick their spot, dropping to the ground and crossing her legs gracefully. Hey, if anything, she could be one of the more graceful tales around. Yes, even she had her vanities. It didn't help that she somehow ended up surrounded by so many beautiful tales. She was just the plain jane little mermaid, missing the one thing that really made her stand out.

                Her voice.

It was a well known story in Haven, why the former mermaid could not talk. The curse that she had taken on willingly, out of childlike stubourrness. The sea witch had warned her, and Delaney had then ignored her. And thus she was left voiceless, trying to earn back her ability to speak from a man that didn't really love her. Centuries later, the curse was still there, despite the fact that it should've left her when she was supposed to die. And for now, Delany had to be content with Mowgli as her means of communication, or with sign language or pen and paper.

There was a way. A way to get her voice back, or she was fairly sure she had found one. But it involved something that would have her break one of the biggest rules that kept Haven safe. And well, she probably would've by now, if Kalani didn't keep talking reason to her.

Closing her eyes and taking a bite of her corn muffin, she tried to free her mind of all of those thoughts. She chewed slowly and only opened her eyes again when Kalani asked if she was okay. Swallowing, she nodded, her usual shy smile forming on her face. Fine, just thinking. she told him through their special connection, her hand brushing his shoulder so he can hear her. Now there was the biggest mystery in all of Haven, how the two of them were able to communicate that way, but it didn't work when Delaney touched anyone else.

"About what?" Kalani asked, breaking off a piece of her muffin and popping it into her mouth, then taking a sip of her latte. She let it slip, because he had technically payed for it today, since there were those days he 'forgot' to charge her. She really wished he wouldn't but there was no way to stop the stubborn jungle man.

Her hand rested lightly on his knee, conveying the thoughts she allowed to pass through their connection. Uhm... she didn't want to start him on his worrying over her desire to be able to use her voice once again. There were worse problems in Haven, and this one she would be able to solve all on her own one day. She just had to convince everyone that Ozz wasn't a threat to their Haven. And she had to make sure Ozz was really who she thought she was. Those weren't things that Kalani could do for her, so why trouble him with it?

Her tongue slid around her mouth, pressing against the metal backing of her monroe piercing, thus giving her something to tell Kalani. The piercing was reletivly new, barely healed. Just the same old thing, wondering why poking holes in your skin is so fasionable to humans. he told him.

"If you think they're so odd, Laney, then why did you get it done?"

Well, they're odd... but they're also pretty. I just wonder why they're so fasionable with the humans. she said, shrugging her shoulders. Well, it was. With both the human tales and the regular humans. She was a mermaid at heart though, and they had never done anything of the like under the sea. Then again, humans would fine some mermaid fashions quite odd she supposed.

Kalani shook his head and looked like he was about to speak, but another voice, coming from behind them, made her jump and remove her hand from his knee, and stopped him from saying anything. She looked back to see another resident of Haven, Belle, and she smiled slightly up at the other female. Delaney wasn't particularly close to Belle, but then again, she wasn't all that close to many of the residents of Haven aside from Kalani. Only Georgie and Scotty really. Most of her interaction with other tales was limited to plesantries and small talk.

Really, she let Kalani speak for them, only touching his knee when something occured to her. She's human, maybe she knows. Ask her. she insisted. Kalani looked at her for a moment, then laughed, looking back to Belle.

"So Delaney and I were talking, and we wanted to know why you humans consider piercings so fashionable. She thinks you might know." he said to Belle.

Whatever answer Belle was giving, Delaney's attention was quickly drawn to the dog that was now rushing up between them. Dulce meant one thing to her. She looked up, looking for the dog's owner, barely hearing Kalani's words to Belle. "It's the human girl's dog." Yes, with Belle, Ozz was just 'the human girl'. She supposed Belle would take off now, not many people wanted anything to do with a human in Haven. Delaney did though. And even if Isabelle took her leave, Laney could care less as she smiled at Ozz, who was close to them now.

She moved closer to Kalani, making sure that her bare knee touched his, the were both in shorts for the warm day, her denim shorts that stopped just below her mid thigh combined with a loose fitting poncho-like crop top and a pair of strappy sandles. Delaney had never been able to grasp the human concept of keeping skin covered and why showing skin meant something bad. Of course, mermaids had no such modesty, and so she thought nothing of something as harmless as showing off her legs and a bit of her stomach. Having Kalani touching her as discreetly as possible was important for his translating for her. He didn't really know sign language as well as she did, and while he knew a bit, there was no way he would actually be able to translate for her if he couldn't hear what she was trying to say. She waved as Ozz finally got close to them and greeted them, turning to signing as Kalani gave his own greeting.

Please sit, how are are you? she moved her hands quickly, forming the signs she had know for so long with ease. She looked at Mowgli as he translated her words into less formal terms, knowing it was near impossible for her to be relaxed around the other female.

"She's asking you to sit and wants to know how you're doing." Delaney couldn't help if it didn't sound as polite and rigid coming out of his mouth. At least he knew what she wanted to sound like but couldn't. She was far too preoccupied with the electricity that crackled in her veins when she was in the presence of Ozz. Of course said presence went against every major rule of Haven there was. Forget about all the magic set on the street to make sure that no human was any real threat to them. That didn't matter if she ever decided to state directly to Ozz their origins, a matter she always faught with herself on.

Mowgli, it's not fair. she didn't sign this time, it wasn't meant to be part of the conversation. It was a private comment to Kalani, and he knew just exactly what she was calling unfair.

Delaney was doing that thinking thing. It was more frustrating for Kalani then anything else about the girl, because when she thought, she seriously stopped making all noises. Not a russell from her clothes, not the sound of her fingers tapping, nothing. It was unnerving, the fact that she was more silent the Bagheera on so many occasions. Of course, that was not something to tell Bagheera. The old panther still needed to have something he could be proud of, with his roaming so limited these days.

"Are you okay, Little Sister?" he asked her, once he had deemed to long had passed without communication from her. His voice seemed to awaken her from his thoughts, and soon her green eyes were peering at him, a small smile enveloping her face. Her hand brushed his shoulder, assuring him that she was fine and just thinking. "About what?" he asked her.

Really, every time she replied to him, it was always a small shock to his system. It was an odd working of magic, whatever it was that gave her such an ability to be able to talk to him. They had explored the thought that they were meant for each other long ago, on their journey to Haven. But one kiss was all it took to show there was nothing like that mixed into thier relationship. And obviously once in Haven, Kalani had found his Piper, and Delaney? Well she was working on it, wasn't she? It would help if she could try finding what she wanted among the other residents of Haven, and not out among the humans, even if said human had wandered into Haven, changing the situtation completely.

He couldn't help but laugh when she said she was thinking again of odd human rituals, such as piercings. Over the years they had both given in to the tradition of piercing, Kalani with his tongue pierced and Delaney with her ears and a monroe. "If you think they're so odd, Laney, then why did you get it done?" Well, he could be asked the same thing, with his tongue, but he had long ago shrugged off the oddness of the human tradition. She defended herself, and as Kalani was about to reply, he was cut off by the familiar voice of an approaching tale, even if the voice was familar because he had heard it's owner yelling at her husband on several occasions. Who in Haven hasn't after all?

Delany refained from 'saying' anything to Belle, through him of course, so he was left to make the small talk on his own. "Hello, Belle." he greeted her with a slight smile. "We're doing good this morning, and--" Delaney cut him off, gripping his knee and telling him to ask Isabelle about the piercing, citing the fact she was human. Well, they were all human, but Delaney was orignally a mermaid, and Kalani was raised as part of a wolf pack, as a wolf.

Again Kalani laughed, looking back to Belle. "So Delaney and I were talking, and we wanted to know why you humans consider piercings so fashionable. She thinks you might know."

Really, Delaney stopped listening to Belle halfway through her explanation, causing both Kalani and Belle look to see why. Of course, Kalani understood the moment he saw the dog bounding towards them. "Oh, the girl-fish's attention for us is gone now." he said, petting Dulce lightly as the dog moved happily between him and Delaney. "It's the human girl's dog." Yes, that was why they were no longer important in Delaney's line of thoughts. She would be stuck on thoughts of Ozz now, and he could see the human female approaching now.

If it were up to the tales who didn't understand how important Ozz was for Delaney, a spell would probably be set on the girl so she would forget every possible thing in her mind about Haven. Mowgli was glad it wasn't up to just them. Many thought it didn't take much to make Delaney happy, and they were right. But that kind of happiness only lasted for a few short moments, and if she saw it again, she would only give a polite, and blatently fake smile. Only a few things could bring out that genuine, beautiful smile of hers, over and over again. One was Kalani himself, knowing her best; another was when she was at the aquarium, surrounded by the familiar creatures of her home; and yet another seemed to be Ozz, or that was what Kalani had observed.

His personal feelings on Ozz? He really wasn't sure. He was drawn into the whole 'defend the human' thing by accident. If it weren't to keep Delaney happy, he would be indifferent as to how Tales went about dealing with her. As it was, once Delaney had gotten close to her, Scotty had followed suit, though rebellious Scotty needed much more supervision over what she went around doing, which was in a way why Georgie was there when it came to her being around the human. She listened to him, for the most part. And honestly? If she needed to find their origins, she needed to do it just as she had found Haven-- by accident.

Belle was quick to make up a reason to leave, wanting little to do with the human, no doubt. Of course, it wasn't such a made-up reason, since Blake was there, but she probably wouldn't have looked for the reason so quickly if Ozz hadn't shown up. Mowgli waved goodbye to her, turning his attention to the two other females as Delany inched closer to him to maintain more subtle skin contact, since he was horrid with translating her sign language when her hands were moving fast. He just played at being good at it. He managed to squeeze in a quick 'hello' before Delaney started with her excited signing. "She's asking you to sit and wants to know how you're doing." said once her hands had calmed to a stand still, falling into her lap until they were ready to revv up again.

It was just a short moment after that that she was saying something to him, but her hands weren't moving. He looked to him, and she looked back, giving him a week smile. He couldn't reply to her out loud, since no obvious communication had taken place. Instead he gave a smile in return to hers and ruffled her hair, before they both turned their attention back to Ozz. They tried not to give off as many vibes of a magically strong relationship as they did when they were around other tales, but Kalani was pretty sure that the oddly observant human girl saw something in their relationship, just as she seemed to feel something that drew her to Haven.

Delaney chewed on her lip softly, halfway in thought, and half aware of the people around her. Not fair. she maintained with Mowgli, again her hands not moving an inch from where the rested in her lap. He gave no real response this time, unlike the last time, but the slight flicker of him looking out the side of his eye at her indicated he heard every word she conveyed. Her own eyes flickered between Kalani and Ozz, and she knew that even if she could work up the courage to face the concequence of an action like blurting out their secret to the other female, she couldn't. The lacking of a voice made sure of that.

Her mind slowly drifted off to other thoughts, and she just nodded absently at whatever Ozz and Kalani were saying. The only reason she rejoined them was someone standing before them, blocking the sun. She looked up to the one and only Piper, Georgie. She couldn't help but smile at the boy's odd outfit. As he sat, her hands jumped alive again, finally willing to let all the rest in on her thoughts, even if her hands moving were just hands moving to them, not the words that someone who understood sign language saw.

You know, Georgie, we could take you to a thrift store. I'm sure we could find you some clothes that you like and are less... uh, eccentric. Her hands fell still waiting for Kalani to relay her message, but instead he chose to keep staring at her. Tell him. she insisted, but he shook his head.

"No, you see, I'm not telling him that. I tell him that and I end up sleeping on the couch." Delaney knew that wasn't true, her friend was just being a bit dramatic, but she still gave a pout, her hands moving to convey a new message now.

Fine, I'll just tell him myself. and with that she stuck her hand in her pocket, pulling out her phone. Yes, it was kind of ironic that a girl who couldn't talk had a phone, or that was what many idiots tried to point out. Never mind the fact that her fingers weren't broken, and she knew exactly how to type a text message, which was what she intended now as she slide the phone up to reveal of a full keyboard.

Of course, she couldn't type on the keyboard if it was being pulled out of her hands. Which, as that was her luck, was what happened. She looked up at Kalani, who was now holding it out of her reach. Give that back! she cried out in Kalani's head, leaning across him to try and grab the phone. All he did was lean out of her reach though, and jump up once he managed to get her off of him.

"Uh-uh, you have to catch me if you want this back." he told her, and went off, running a slower pace then Delaney knew he could run. Trying to be fair, she supposed , as she got up herself, giving a 'hold on a minute' signal to Ozz and Georgie, the universal holding up of your index finger, before running after Kalani. Now, no matter how fair he was being by slowing down his running, it wasn't fair if he climbed a tree, which was what he was doing. She stopped at the base of the tree, crossing her arms over her chest and glaring up at him, now perched on a thick branch.

He stuck his tongue out at her, and that was when she looked down at the ground, looking for the sneakers she knew he would've kicked off before scrambling up the tree like the jungle boy he was at heart. She saw them, and bent down, picking one up. Standing up straight, she took aim, extending her arm back and throwing the shoe as hard as she could. Nothing says that that was very hard though. Kalani laughed at her when the shoe fell miserably short, dangling the phone far above her head. "Okay, okay. Catch, Little Sister." and with that short phrase he let the phone drop from his hand, and she caught it before it could hit the ground, scurrying back to the other two with phone in hand, sliding it open to text as she went.

Honestly, you would think he was raised by monkeys, the way he climbs trees like that.

As she reached Ozz and Georgie and fell-- again, gracefully --to the ground, she thrust the phone between the two so they could see the screen, petting Dulce absently with her free hand. She tried to erase the fact from her mind that she had caught herself before she had typed 'raised by monkeys instead of the wolves'. No, she had no sort of courage to go through with anything that blunt in revealing their secret. Coward. She thought to herself, pulling her hand back and erasing the page so it could be ready for any new message.

It was only a few moments later that Kalani wandered back over to them, holding his sneakers and walking in just his socks. He sat back down, this time closer to Georgie then to Delaney, though he extended his legs so his skin still touched hers. She wrinkled her nose at him, and then looked up, as yet another person was greeting them.

To be honest, she was surprised this person even made her way to them, without seeming to stop and pick at Belle, since a quick glance over at Belle with Blake still had her smiling and laughing with her husband. Now who was this person with them? It was October, or the infamous Briar Rose, the girl with the fairy enchantments on her and the serious sleep issues. Delaney got along okay with October, though not very many people did. And October didn't make it much easier. First there were the tales that she often alienated with her vainity, and then the humans she treated like s**t because she simply didn't like them, which is why Laney was surprised that October had made her way over to the four of them, with Ozz being a part of the small group after all. October seemed to be ignoring Ozz though, but Delaney wondered how long that would last.

Delaney thought often that if she and October didn't have anything in common, she would get the same treatment that October gave other tales. If it weren't for their sorted stories having to do with Charming and the fact that he couldn't entertain a love interest for more then ten minutes. If that wasn't there, she was fairly sure she would have to be on the defense around October just like everyone else, though she knew that October did mean well with the people she was nice to. Laney just thought the girl took life a bit too seriously and needed to be the best too often.

Good morning, October. My morning has been pretty boring, except for Kalani stole my phone and I threw a shoe at him for it. How have you been? she could hear Kalani translating for Ozz and Georgie, but not to October. Mostly because she was learning sign language herself, and seemed to get a bit defensive now when Kalani tried to make it easier and just translate.

"And can I just add that she didn't so much throw the shoe at me as she did display how miserable a throwing arm she has." Kalani added in, which made Delaney lean over to smack him in the back of his head. With that she grabbed up her phone, this time to type a message out for Ozz.

See, you haven't missed much since you've last been here.
                He still treats me badly.

She held out the phone towards Ozz, consience of the fact that the girl sometimes had bad eyes, though oddly, it always seemed more apparent when they were away from Haven and all it's magic then when they were on the street that seemed so hidden within the big city.

Kalani and Delaney were certainly a piece of work when with each other. The bickering never seemed to end, though it was all in good fun. Kalani needed someone he didn't need to be serious with, and Delaney needed someone who could understand her with no if, ands, or buts. They both gave each other that certain release, which furthered their ability to mesh so well together. And of course, they only got worse with their silliness as Gregorie approached, giving his greeting.

By now, it was easy for Kalani to take in his partner's style without the bat of an eyelash. It wasn't killing anyone, why should he have any problem with it? And there was also that small thing of loving someone for who they were, and not what they wore. Blah, blah, blah. Obviously Kalani loved Gregorie, or else why would they stay together for as long as they had been. Sure, they were no Belle and Blake, but they were up there. And those pants had only come in recently. If the two could survive the fashion horrors of the seventies and eighties, they could live through some chili pepper pants, while everyone else said something about them, such as Delaney, who was now insisting she translate something.

He simply stared at her for a moment, then shook his head. "No, you see, I'm not telling him that. I tell him that and I end up sleeping on the couch." he told her. They both knew that was a little dramatic, but Kalani was allowed to be dramatic from time to time, when all Delaney ever did half the time was be dramatic. When she took her phone out to write what she wanted to say to Gregorie, he simply plucked it from her hands, holding it as far out of her reach as he could, even as she demanded he give it back.

"Uh-uh, you have to catch me if you want this back." he said, finally scrambling to his feet. He ran from her, though for him, it was more of jog, not wanting to be completely unfair to the girl-fish. He stopped as he came to a tree, kicking his sneakers off and climbing up it. Going up in his socks wasn't much better then his sneakers, and honestly, Mowgli the frog prefered barefoot to anything else, but stopping to take off his socks would've gotten him caught.

It was a scene that happened often with the two, though it wasn't always Laney's phone he stole. Sometimes he didn't steal anything, and he still somehow ended up up a tree. Laney, as usually, threw a shoe at him, one that fell pathetically short, and he had to take pity on her. "Okay, okay. Catch, Little sister." he said, finally dropping her phone down into her hand, but staying up in the tree for a few moments as she walked back to the other two, now typing away at the little pad on her phone. He smiled as he watched her thrust the phone out for Gregorie and Ozz to see, and finally swung himself down from the tree, falling into a natrual crouch as his feet hit the ground. Retrieving his shoes, he stood up straight, not bothering to put them on before walking back to the group.

He sat himself closer to Gregorie this time, extending his legs out to maintain his connection with Delaney. But closer to Gregorie and further from Delaney, who was prone to smacking him was always better. Kalani nudged the Piper lightly, bumping his own shoulder against Gregorie's in greeting. He flashed the other male a smile and probably would've said something if it weren't for the fact that someone else was upon them, though Kalani couldn't exactly say he was excited to see the person that it was. Because, in all honesty, he wasn't one of October's best friend. Hell, half the time, friend was even a bit of a strech.

No, he didn't argue with her, because he didn't argue with all that many people. She did press his famous patience though, and Kalani wasn't even sure if she was aware she did it. And all of that aside, Delaney liked her, so Kalani just put up with her. Really, she wasn't that bad, just kind of oblivious. He offered her a smile, keeping with his manners. "G'morning October." he didn't so much bother with telling her how his day was going, feeling that question was more for the people among their group she prefered, namely, Delaney. What did he do instead? He went on to translate her quick moving hands to Gregorie and Ozz, adlibbing his own comment in at the end. "And can I just add that she didn't so much throw the shoe at me as she did display how miserable a throwing arm she has." that earned him a hit upside head, to which he exclaimed in his defence, "What? It's true!"

When she quickly typed a message onto her phone and showed it to Ozz, he had to say something again. "I may not know what she's writing Ozz, but think about it. Can you really believe the words of a girl who abuses his best friend?" that earned him a light punch in the arm. "See, that's abuse. And abuse is bad Laney." he told her, but she was paying him no attention at this point. She was now off in her own little world with Ozz, typing their notes back and forth on their phone. The sight made him smile slightly before he turned to Gregorie, who he at least knew would listen to him. Better to be in another conversation when the reprocussions of Ozz trying to make October acknowlege he existance happened.

"Not only am I abused, I'm ignored." he informed Gregorie, even though the other one had no reason to feel any sympathy for Kalani, since they all knew damn well he was faking being hurt. It only took him a moment after that to change the subject to something else, just going to show how little it really did affect him. "And where might Miss Red be on this morning? Torturing poor Sn- Valentine again?" Ozz may have been wrapped up in whatever she was doing, but it was still kind of an unspoken rule that they not use their tale names around humans. Mowgli was just Kalani, Gregorie was not the Piper, Snow was definitley just Valentine, so on and so forth.

It was a perfectly normal question to ask if Red was off torturing already stressed out Snow White. It seemed to be one of her favorite activities afterall. And Gregorie was very often attached to the girl at the hip, much like Delaney and Kalani. But there were some of Scotty's escapades that Gregorie did refrain from, and the whole, stress-Snow-out-for-no-real-reason thing seemed to be one of them.

A small town. Six young adults dying for some sort of excitement, some sort of stimulation. Though, it is very possible that they had not really wanted all of this.

Two more young adults, bringing more then the other six ever should've asked for.

It's all been strange since her party. Even stranger after the rave that wasn't a rave. All of the sudden, for all eight, everything seems like they're in a different world. And with three trying to learn, one trying to teach, one trying to get them to stray, and three caught up in the messes being left behind. But much too much is being skipped here, this story needs to start at the beginning.

If you were told that fairies were real, would you believe it?

What if you were told that you yourself were a fairy? A changling to be more specific. A fairy in the shell of a human body.

They're hardly ever aware of it to start with. Sure, they often know there's something different to who they are. But most people don't jump to the conclusion that they're magical creatures somehow stuck as humans.

And this? This all starts with a house party that got a little out of control. After all, word of parties spread fast in the small town, and no one really wants to pass up the chance for some sort of excitment. But even with things like this being the norm in town, the general oddness of the party could be sensed by those who were observant enough. Like the normally good girl hooking up with her potential boyfriend one second and hanging all a known drug dealer the next. Or how the mysterious boy who always seems to be strung out on dust is suddenly so drawn to and captivated by the normally quiet girl who's throwing the whole thing, and she likewise to him. So on and so forth, it was how it all started.

And then the rave, the ring of fire. Not everyone was there, only the ones meant to go through the change, the ones who aren't really human, who are fay. They were made aware of this at the ring of fire, as many have been time and time before. Some were relieved to know there was a reason for what they could do-- what they saw. Others saw this as a chance for power-- power that tends to warp a changling into a cutter. And a few are reluctant to believe it, and fight against every aspect of it, clinging to their human life the best they can.

Moving foward, this about the times after the ring of fire, as the fay learn more of who they are and what they can do from their guide, everything seems to tangle as human lives get left behind and people try to get them to stray from their paths. Where this path ultimately leads? No one can really say. Most are sure with the full granting of powers and the shedding of your human shell, you are then allowed to travel between the magical world of the fay and the human world. But until you can pass the tasks set before you by your guide, you're stuck in the middle, with diluted powers in the mortal realm in the limitations of a human body.

And not to mention that things have gotten a little bit complicated this time around. With a cutter trying to break their ring, relationships forming that shouldn't and humans being dragged into something that isn't at all safe for them, it's starting to seem like their tests aren't the real obsticales on their paths.

          The Girls
          The Skeptic;; Taken o u t r a g e o u s KOI
She has so much potential, no matter how much she'll deny it. Really she's a strong independent girl, and has been against all of this since the day her party spiraled out of control. Her quickly developed, close friendship with the ringer is the only thing that got her to go to the ring of fire. Yes, she's always been aware that there was something different, but with it revealed now, when she's forced to face it, she can only deny it. Deny, deny, deny. And at the same time she is too drawn to the ringer, the power hungry, hell even their guide, though she trys to hold total loathing for him and everything he tells them. The only thing she does better then deny? Cling to what she has left of her human life. Or more, the connections. In particular, her girlfriend, the suspicious. She can't tell the other anything, but she's trying to desprately hold one thing from her past life, though she knows that their relationship only gets more and more strained everyday.

          The Power Hungry;; Open --
People always gave this girl a wide berth. They were too afraid of the pull the felt from her, and they were right to be. She's always known she was better then her human roots, though she could never tell in just what way. Now, it's not enough that she is different from the humans, she has to be the best in her ring of three, the best of all the other changlings in the other rings that were formed at the rave. She can't stand the attention the skeptic, who isn't even grateful for her power, always gets. For that matter, she can't stand the skeptic, or many other people really. All but one human get on her nerves these days, and that one human is the effected, her childhood friend. Of course, he's so caught up in the pet, she rarely gets the attention she wants from him anymore. And her need for power has her turning to the cutter, while playing like she is still loyal to her ring. From him she gets the real teachings of raw power, and what probably isn't a really good relationship, since he too has his investments in the pet. Then again, that is one of the reasons she's with him. That slut can't get everything.

          The Pet;; Open --
This was the only human to attend the ring of fire. Not that she has any idea what went on, the cutter had her completely blanked out on dust. The thing about her hanging off the cutter all the time? It makes no sense to any human that knows her, especially her boyfriend. Some days this good girl is completely normal, the way she used to always be. Other days? Other days she's completely out of it, ignoring her boyfriend and her other friends, strung out on dust and sticking with the cutter like she may be lost without him. And there's only one real reason for this. The cutter wants her as a pet. In the world of the fay, this is for the most part forbidden, but since when have the bad guys followed the rules? This girl seems to forever be on the edge of becoming what he wants, and she doesn't even know it. She's just lucky the effected is looking out for her, pulling her away from the cutter whenever he can. It doesn't help that she can never remember her time with the cutter.

          The Suspicious;; Open --
There is something up, and she knows it. Her friends, her girlfriend, everything has seemed different since her girlfriend, the skeptic, disapeared off to that rave one night without inviting her along. Her once close friend the pet is so wrapped up in either her boyfriend or in the cutter. And her girlfriend? Oh, she knows something has to be up, with the way their relationship has grown so strained, and how the skeptic is always hanging out with the power hungry, ringer, and guide, though she never would've before that out of control party she threw. All in all, she's suspicious of everything going on, and she's determined to find out what's going on. Of course, first she has to get past everyone blocking her way to finding out about what went on at that rave, and what's happening now.

          The Guys
          The Effected;; Open --
Out of all the humans dealing with the mess that all of this, most would say this young man has the most to lose when it comes to dealing with the fay. His childhood best friend is getting stranger and stranger, always seeming obsessed with being the best at everything. And his girlfriend? Half the time he's not even sure if they are together, when she's with him one day, and the next people are telling him they've just seen his girlfriend all over that dealing loser the cutter. He's been trying to do everything he can to keep her away from him, but he only has so much control over the situation. And it doesn't help that the newest friend he's made, the ringer, seems to either be involved in things or knows what's going on and is refusing to actually give a full story on anything.

          The Ringer;; Open --
Not many people know much about him. He showed up in town one day, and he doesn't like to go into his past much, so most people don't know a thing about where he came from. He's always known that there was something different about him, mostly because of the rings he's always seen, on those whose fates have been locked. It's a long story, one to be gone into later. The point is, because of it, he's always kept to himself, but that changed when he went to the house party and was suddenly drawn into his friendship with the skeptic. And we're not even to his odd relationship with the guide either. He was relieved at the rave, and he is the only reason the skeptic is willing to put up with all of this. He has his own problems, though none are with disbelief. More with the on off flirting with the guide. Really, it's not supposed to happen, and they both know it, since there are far more important things they're supposed to be doing. But you know how it goes. One thing leads to another and another... and well, another.

          The Cutter;; Open --
His ring is in the past, it fell apart, the only two left of it are the guide and himself. And he? When his ring fell apart, he went looking for power while the guide fell off the grid. As stated before, looking for power that is not rightfuly yours in the fairy world twists you into a cutter, and then your only goal is to ruin it for the rest of the changlings. He'll do anything to cut off their way to Novala, to their real powers. And he does this by finding the one link in a ring that he can break, because a ring can't pass the tests to their powers as long as a cutter is a part of this ring. This is why he's drawing in the power hungry, because for all the power she wants, she is the weakest link in the ring. Little known fact? If you have a cutter in your ring, you can't pass through to Novala. Either the ring falls apart or you eliminate the cutter. And his thing with the pet? Well, he needs to have some leverage if it comes down to a fight. No one wants to hurt the humans, and she will do whatever he wants her to once she's completely his.

          The Guide;; Taken o u t r a g e o u s KOI
He's a rare case. His ring fell apart, yet here he is, full fledged fay, allowed to pass between the worlds and everything, though his role as a guide has kept him in the human world for just a bit longer. How he was able to pass through with no ring and a cutter in his former ring is another story for another day. Here's what you need to know for now. He may be a bit arrogant, but for the most part, he gets his job done and the points he needs to across. He probably does the least interacting with the humans, but one them always seems like they're about to hit him, especially the suspicious, who he's quick to always imply to that her girlfriend, the skeptic, might be done with her, and that's why she's so distant. His other activity when he's not screwing with skeptic's life? Is make a big mess in his own. Fay are supposed to have no need for all that love stuff, so on and so forth, but for most changlings, it's a big different story, having been humans for such a long period. Of course, a guide doing anything with one of his ring is something that is kinda forbidden, so the guide is often struggling with on and off flirting and... other things with the ringer.

Jasper

No matter how hard Nik tried to creep up on Jasper, Jasper for the most part always heard, though he kept on with what he was doing, which was in this case reading, knowing that Nik would make his presence known when he wanted to. Then again, even knowing that his boyfriend was in the tent, he didn't expect the actions that Nikolas sprung on him. Why? Well, boldness like that always seemed to be random spurts with Nik that you couldn't pinpoint when they were going to happen. Not that Jasper didn't appreciate it. It was nice to know from time to time that even with all the confusion, Nikolas was all in on this.

"Hello Nik." he said in response to the greeting, turning his head slightly so he could manage to plant a kiss on the younger's cheek. "Someone's awfully bold tonight." yes, he always had to remind his lover of how far he got some days, how much things had changed from when they had first gotten together, when Nikolas was hesitant about just holding hands. That was a far jump, looking at Nik's current actions. That was where about six months of moving slowing got you though.

A slight smile flashed across his features as Nik pulled up a stool, sitting and telling him the same thing Jasper would swear Nikolas told him every other day, but again, he wasn't complaining. "I have a nosy psychic sister. Trust me, I know." he promised Nikolas. Well, it was true. Catalyst knew more about his life then he ever would. If she wanted to, she could tell him everything about his future, but she didn't want to, and Jasper really didn't to know. But from time to time, she would drop little comments. So yes, Jasper was pretty sure he knew how much Nikolas cared.

Nikolas took the book at Jasper had been reading, openning and attempting to read the text. Jasper laughed at how quickly the other gave up, inquiring about how on earth could Jasper read such a thing. Jazz laughed, taking back the book and shrugging. "I don't know, I guess I just like boring books." he said. He examined the spine of the book. It was about magic, like he couldn't get enough of it in his real life. "Besides, if I read anything more interesting, I might not be able to pull myself away to help customers." everyone knew that reading a book in his tent wasn't a rare act for Jasper. It probably seemed to most that he had a new book every night, he was always reading. Many joked about how they didn't know how he ever sold anything, the way his nose was always stuck in a book.

Jazz checked his watch at the question about whether they had enough time to eat or not. Really, he wasn't supposed to leave his tent, but it wasn't like they were going far to eat, and it wasn't that hard to get someone to look after it. Just stick his head out and try to track down a younger sibling in the crowd. They were always dawdling around, it wasn't that hard to pluck one out of the crowd when you needed one. "Yeah, there's plenty of time for food." he told the other. "I have to get Maddox or Sage and Madelyn to watch the tent though, so I'll be there in a few minutes, okay?"

Standing when Nikolas did, he leaned down and pressed his lips lightly against Nik's, smiling at him and letting him leave after that. Extending his arms over his head, he stretched back, hearing the satisfying crack of his spine. After that he walked to the front of his tent, standing in the entrance to survey the people passing. As said before, a sibling would pass by soon enough, and that they did. A head of curly pitch-black hair on a short, thin male caught his eye finally. "Maddox!" he called out. The male turned at the sound of his name, and Jazz gestured for him to come over. When he did, Jasper spoke again. "Because I know you're doing nothing, it would be lovely if you could watch my tent for a little while. Just tell anyone who comes in that I'm on break."

"You don't get a break. No union rules for family, remember?" Maddox smirked at Jasper, who just shook his head.

"Very funny Maddox. You doing it or not?" his brother shrugged then nodded. "Now that wasn't so hard, was it? Thank you." he pat his brother on the shoulder before walking to the back of the tent and out the back to the trailer that sat behind the tent. From there he could hear Nik calling out and asking if spagetti was okay. Jasper waited until he got inside the trailer to answer.

"I've had my meals in the mess tent for the past three days, so yeah, as long as the spagetti didn't come from there, it's great." he assured Nik, coming up behind the other and squeezing his shoulders. He rested his chin on Nik's shoulder, watching the microwave also. "So are the animals ready for tonight?" he questioned, making a small bit of talk to fill the silence.

Couples were fairly easy to read on what questions they wanted also. Like lone women who came through, they wanted to know about their relationship future. Sometimes it was good to give them the fortune, other times it was a bit depressing. Catalyst didn't try to think of it either way. The way she perceived her relationship wasn't affected by it. Of course, she didn't have any real 'relationship' to speak of, but still.

No, as she watched the two walk away hand in hand, she thought on the fact she had not only one warped relationship, but two. They weren't warped in a bad way, just, difficult to understand. There was a vampire, and then there was a werewolf, though she wouldn't use those simplified terms anywhere but in her head. They were her closest friends, who would probably kill each other if given the proper chance. There was no way to have them together. Fighting over stupid little things, fighting for her attention, it got utterly ridiculous that there were times where she would just refuse to talk to either until they got over it. Supernatural or not, they didn't get to act that way and expect her to still want to be around them.

When they weren't fighting though... when it was just her and one or the other one on one? She didn't know two sweeter or well meaning people in her whole world. Because they really did mean well by her. They just didn't go about it right. Catalyst couldn't chage their opinions though, she could only live with it and do her best to hinder their actions and make them feel guilty for acting like children.

While she thought, she absently shuffled her tarot cards, her hands moving swiftly after years of practice. Hey, some people got to be in the big show at the end of the night, she got to shuffle cards. Well, she got paid more then most of them, so she had nothing to complain about.

Her hands skipped a beat though, when someone new appeared in front of her. She set the cards down, looking up at the person. Okay, so he wasn't new. Shane? Yeah, hardly. Catalyst smiled up at her friend, though her hand did go to touch her hair, making sure everything was concealed properly.

What did she have to hide? Well, nothing, not to anyone that wasn't Shane. And she wasn't exactly hiding anything from him. More preventing reminders of what she had not thought to keep to herself before. It wasn't as if she had given up any of her blood that day, no the last time had been a little less then a week earlier. But the problem was always the mark she would probably have forever, her skin had been punctured in the same spot so many times over. Catalyst knew Shane didn't like it, she was sure she could even go as far to say that he hated the idea of it, from his first reaction when she had started letting her blood be taken. After that, it was something everyone was aware of, but didn't talk about it, especially around Shane.

Catalyst rolled her eyes at his question. Oh, what a catch he was, mister 'am I getting lucky later?'. She knew he wasn't all that serious about it, and knew that really, he was a sweet guy, just a little rough. That was why it annoyed her to no end when that side so easily disappeared when he began fighting with her other friend. Taking up one of his hands in her gloved ones, she pretended to study his palm hard.

"Oh, I definiately see something." she said, and pointed out his heart line. Really, she was just bullshitting around, though her mind was on it's own catalouging what the palm reading would really be if she was doing it seriously. "See that line, it tells me that--" she leaned in closer, so she could whisper the next part. "--you're a pig, and not getting anything for a good long while." Smirking, she leaned back, releasing his hand.

Leaning her elbows on the counter, she propped her chin on her fists. "Anything you'd like to know, Mister Wolf-man?" she asked sweetly, using her general sweetness to slide by, like she always did. Of course Catalyst was well aware that there were other reasons that Shane let her slide by, but she chose to pretend they didn't exist, knowing he wouldn't push things if she didn't want him to. There were days though where she wished someone would push her, no matter how much she hated it. They treated her as if she was a paper doll, not a full grown woman, older then most everyone around her, not counting their resident immortal. It got frustrating some days.

Shaking the thoughts from her head, she continued on. "And what were you up to tonight that you were talking to supposedly cute girls?" she questied, raising an eyebrow.

Jasper

Jasper let go of Nikolas so that the other was able to pull the spagetti from the microwave and dish it out, setting the bowls down on the small table. He sat across from the other, silence again filling the air as they ate. Jazz nodded when Nik decided to state that he thought the food was good. He couldn't help but smile when the other threw in that of course, he had just pulled it from the fridge and heated it up. "Yes, pretending is just fine." he agreed, twisting some spagetti up in his fork and taking a bite.

He tapped his foot lightly on the ground as he looked out the one only three windows in the trailer, catching the sight of his parents and two others passing looking deep in conversation. It was easy to recongnize the two others, he had after all known Naveen's family since he was young. Jasper's mother looked up and caught his eye through the window, smiling to him and then nodding at Naveen's parents as if to ask the quite obvious question of 'this family is good enough for one of your sisters, yes?' Jasper gave a strained smile back at her, making himself nod before he looked back at his food and he could hear the sound of their talking pass.

"This is so stupid. That family is only willing to take one of the twins because my Dad is full Romani. If he were half like Mama they wouldn't even think about it." he said, stabbing at the spagetti. Well, it was true. Hell, if it weren't for their father being full Roma, he and his siblings wouldn't be considered Roma by many. Oddly enough though, the only two in their family who looked like there was something in their mix-up of heritages that made them not full were the two oldest that had refused arranged marriages, A.K.A Catalyst and himself. Catalyst most of all though. Jasper had the dark hair of his father and mother, but the pale skin of his mother. Catalyst had the red curly hair that was their English grandmother's on their mother's side and their mother's pale skin. Jasper's other three siblings had dark hair, tan skin, and much of the time, one wouldn't automatically connect them to the two older Caldararu children.

Jasper looked up at Nik, realizing that it wasn't something the other wouldn't necessarily understand. It wasn't like it was something Jasper brought up much. "Feel free to ignore that, it's just another tradition thing." Just another tradition thing. He reminded himself, just as he had said to Nikolas.

It wasn't a new concept, Jasper being frustrated with his family and their mix of traditions and outright weirdness. He just didn't vocalize it often, especially not with more then one or two people. Nikolas had heard a little bit of it, but mostly it was the weirdness part, not the traditions. Jazz would talk with Lyst about the traditions, because she went through the motions with it too, just as he did. They had both grown up being taught that you didn't wash your hand in the kitchen sink, only the bathroom sink, because of what they had always thought were odd rules for hygiene. They still did it even now, because it was what they had grown up knowing. The same way in which his sisters always wore long skirts and on the rare occasion jeans, but never anything that didn't cover their legs, because of out-dated ideas of a woman's lower half being impure.

Things like that, they were just things he was pretty sure he couldn't put into words properly for Nikolas without his own prejudices seeping in. It wasn't like he hated his family after all, and he didn't want to give that impression.

That was enough of depressing and irritating thoughts. Jasper stayed with the carnival for his own reasons, he had nothing to be frustrated with other then his own choices. There was no need to kill the happy mood of Nik being forward. Instead he decided to bring up happier concepts. "I think my family is going to be doing some celebrating after we shut down tonight. Think you're up for a late night?" he asked. His family being up for celebrating usually meant many of the other people at the carnival having a fun night of drinking and eating and dancing with them, if they chose to. That or they attempted to sleep. Attempt being the opprotive word. Jasper had tried it once, but music that went on for what seemed like forever, and even with it quieting a little after awhile, it took a heavy sleeper to actually achieve sleep on those nights.

Nights like those happened every couple weeks, for whatever reason or another. They always found a reason. Whether it was just to cheer people up after a hard night, or for a more 'traditional' reason as Jasper would put it, like a new baby or in this case Jasper suspected it would be for an engagement, but he would keep that to himself, not trying to jinx anything.

Jasper shook his head slightly as Nik told him that it wasn't worth it to be angry with his family. No, it wasn't even close to anger. He couldn't be angry at people who were just trying to keep their culture alive. "I'm hardly angry. Annoyed maybe. I just don't see why the twins have to be married off right now. They're still little girls, as far as I'm concerned." Fifteen was still little, that was what he had decided. Sixteen? Again, young. But another year was still more time. Time he thought his sisters needed. He could accept the idea of an arranged marriage, and he was thankful that hardly anyone married their children off at ages as young as twelve anymore. That fact that they were even compliant about the whole thing to begin with was quiet the shocker to Jasper.

He sighed and pushed a dread that had fallen loose of his ponytail back, tucking it behind an ear as he thought. He smiled slightly at Nik as the other stood and took their bowls to the sink. A moment later he stood also, knowing that he really was supposed to be back at his tent, selling his wares and working his magic Of course, he would procrastinate a little bit longer, again highly aware of the fact that this boldness was random with his boyfriend and there could be long instances in between the next time he was so open.

When Nik wrapped his arms around Jasper, Jasper put an arm around the younger's shoulders. Of course, that didn't last very long. Just like that, the whole Nik being sure of himself thing crumbled, and he looked just as confused as he always weemed to. Usually a change in the mood wasn't so fast, but Jasper really couldn't have much idea about how things clicked in Nik's head that one good thing led to a bad thing, especially when they were alone and no one was around to judge him.

It was no secret that Nikolas still seemed to stand on very fragile ground when people came to judging him. Jasper would know better then anyone else, because in a way it affected him also. He sure as hell didn't want to see his boyfriend hurt. But what was he supposed to do? At this point, his assurances seemed redundant, because either Nik didn't believe them or his confidence in them wore off after awhile. Jazz couldn't cure the problem for Nikolas though. It sounded cliche, but Nik had to find his confidence on his own, just like Jasper had to do years before on the same matter. Though it never really seemed to be this hard for Jazz to come fully to terms with it. He also had a little bit of a path carved for him though, his sister being upfront about her interest in both men and women long before he had ever been sure of what he was.

Sighing again, Jasper pulled the stool that Nik was holding onto out of the way so that he could actually get to the other. Crouching down, he looked at the other, making sure that Nik was looking back before speaking. "Okay, first thing, I don't hate anything about you. If I felt strongly about anything like that, I would tell you, I promise." he reached out, putting his hand's on Nik's shoulders and rubbing them slightly. "You do need to calm down. I don't care about how feminine or masculine you are. Don't let what people say get to you, because they're not going to stop if they know it bothers you." he paused for a moment, wanting to have some sort of acknowledgement that Nik was listening to what he was saying.

Leaning in, he pressed his lips against Nikolas' forehead. Pulling away, he made sure to catch the other's eye again. "I love you, okay? More then you seem to think. And since you don't have a psychic sister to reassure you on this, you're just going to have to trust me when I say I do." he smiled at the other male. "You think you can do that?" he asked. Again he leaned in, this time kissing Nik on the lips for a few moments before pulling back finally.

Taking a deep breath and releasing it slowly, he stood, offering a hand to help Nik up. "I have to get back to work now. You can come back to my tent and stay there until you need to go do your show, or you can go do whatever you need to." he said, giving Nik's hand a squeeze before heading towards the door. Really, he had procrastinated for longer then he should've, even with good reason. Stepping outside the trailer, he went back to his tent, entering through the back and waving at his brother, a signal that his sibling was free to go.

For once he didn't just stick to the back of the tent, and instead brought his stool to the front, sitting off to the side so he could watch the people pass by. He could see further down the row, near the stage at the end, Jade and Logan talking, well at this point it looked more like Jade crying and Logan standing there. Jasper shook his head, looking around for Paige after that. He couldn't make himself feel much in the way of sympathy for Jade, mostly because he was highly aware of how she felt towards those of them within the carnival who had magic and other non-human traits on their side. He wasn't sure what her problem was, if she just believed it was all fake or what, but he just dealt with it by removing himself from most situations with her. The only reasons he ever dealt with her was to help Paige, which was one case where he broke his main rule of keeping to his own business. But that had only been to tell Jade to chill on the Logan thing. The other reason that had him dealing with Jade was on parental prompting, when he was either telling her line-up changes in the show or giving her her paycheck, little things like that.

He didn't see Paige anywhere around, though he did catch sight of someone else, veering past his sister's tent, probably to avoide Shane, if Jasper knew anything about Charlbi. He waved at her a slight greeting. The two weren't exactly close, but he had known her since he was a baby, so it was hard to say they weren't friends. They were, they just weren't as close as she and Catalyst were.

"That's my job, nothing to it but to do it." Catalyst said with a smile when Shane accused her of being depressing. Yes, this was the perfect side of her friend, rough edges and all. They would joke like this back and forth all the the time, and for the most part, there were always smiles. Then again, Catalyst was rarely one to be unhappy, with the only real case ever being when she was stuck between Shane and Charlbi, the two of them fighting, treating her like a child who couldn't make up her mind. Of course, her favorite cure for their stupidity was to remove herself from the situation and remind them that she chose to be their friend. And she could just as easily choose to take her friendship away.

She rolled her eyes and waved off Shane's comment of how he should stop talking to her. "Oh please, who else will put up with you besides you?" she said, again they were moving along with the jabs being taken at each other. "Don't get cocky there Shane. I just think it would be fare for me to find those girls and warn them about how much of a heartbreaker you are." she told him, doing her best to dodge any implication she was jealous. She wasn't. Of course, that was because she was highly aware that if she gave Shane the okay, some sort of sign that she wanted the same thing that everyone was had told her time and time again that Shane wanted, she would be the first choice next to some random girl visiting the carnival.

At his question about if anything interesting had happened to her that day, Catalyst shrugged. There was no way in hell she was talking about spending time with Charlbi, and it was a safe bet that wasn't what he met by the question. "Er, my parents are trying to arrange a marriage for Madelyn to Naveen." she said, that being the only thing she could come up with. It didn't really matter though, since Shane wasn't listening all that much. That was when she brought in the classic technique of saying something completely insane to get his attention.

"And they want me to marry Darius. I think I might say yes too, because what the hell, I've already slept with him, so why not?" she said, and then waited for his reaction. Well, it was pull the past guys she was known to flirt with card of the other best friend card. She figured the first one was safer, if only because Shane probably wouldn't react as badly to a comment like the one she had just made with Darius in place of anything being said about Charlbi. She crossed her arms and watched Shane, tilting her head slightly. "That was just a joke for the most part by the way." she added finally. For the most part, at least. She smiled, flipping her hair over her shoulder. It was too warm and her hair was too thick to be playing this game of avoid the truth and protect Shane from something that was her own choice.

"Distracted?" she asked, not really caring if he told her the truth or not. It wasn't as if Shane ever really lied to her. No, he was more likely to skip over subjects when he didn't want to talk about them, just like she was. It was only when it came to a subject that neither of them couldn't really ignore that they had confrontations, but as of late, they had learned what lines to steer clear of even getting close to crossing. One way or another, Catalyst was resolved to get through to everyone that she could make her own choices, and that if she made mistakes, it was her own fault. She couldn't live with a half a carnival determined to keep her from making mistakes and potentially not getting to learn from them.

Looking down at the counter that stood between them, she tapped her gloved fingers against the wood. The gloves she wore were old, though still something she wore every day. Really she needed to get her brother to charm a new pair for her. These were wearing in some places, and Catalyst was getting more and more flashes of people's pasts and futures when she touched them. The gloves were still doing the job of holding some back for the most part, but Catalyst could remember when she first got them and touching someone to convey her thoughts without words hadn't for once in her life meant she would be assualted with more information then her brain could deal with.

Catalyst sighed, peeling of the gloves. She could do tarot fortunes without them, she would just tell people she wasn't doing palm readings for the rest of the night. "Remind me to tell Jasper later that I need him to charm a new pair of gloves for me." she said to Shane, setting her old gloves off to the side. After that she took a look around them, half wandering where everyone was. She heard to sound of the animals down near the stage, indicating that was where Nik probably was. Jasper would be at his tent, Shane was obviously with her, Catalyst caught a glimpse of Paige passing in the crowd, probably looking for someone, Jade and Logan were a ways away, talking, and Catalyst had no real idea where Charlbi was, though that was for the best she supposed, since she really didn't want to play mediator right then.
