"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

As Kitty straighten up she surveryed the room and it's two occupants, smiling brightly at the two mutant girls. "Morning!" she said cheerfully as she skipped over to the counter to get herself some breakfast. The last thing the brunette mutant had eaten had been a cold slice of pepperoni pizza, courtesy of Ororo Munroe; and now she had a undeniable craving for raisin toast. As she phased her hand into one of the many bread boxes littering the kitchen benches and fished around for the plastic packaging that held her chosen meal for the morning she listened carefully to what Ashley ad Jolt were saying. It seemed to her that the two girls had been there conversing with eachother for a while, that surpised Kitty, she had never thought that they were very close. Withdrawing two thick slices of raisin bread from their packaging Kitty dropped them in one of the toasters and pulled down the tab before dancing across the room to the refridgerator and getting out the almost-empty carton of orange juice.

As she waited for her toast to pop out of the toaster Kitty poured the pulp-free orange juice into the cat mug that Scott had given her for her sixteenth. Once that was done Shadowcat jumped up onto the counter - even though Ororo was contantly telling her not to - so she was sitting on it facing her peers and fellow mutants, swinging her long, tones legs and cradelling the mug in her lap. As she listened to Ash and Alexandria making plans without her she couldn't help but feel left out. There she was, seeing them for the first time in three days, and all they had to say to her was good morning? Fortunately the sound of her raisin toast popping in the toaster was enough to steer her away from those mood-dampening thoughts and Kitty was soon sitting with the plate on her lap, breaking the warm, crisp bread up into pieces and sticking them into her hungry mouth. Looking out the window over her shoulder Katherine Anne Pryde started to wonder where Lance was, had he come by in the last few days and been sent away because she was busy? The brown-haired girl from Illanios wasn't quite sure of her feelings for the Brotherhood mutant were, but what she did know was that she had thought about him more than she had anyone else when she had been alone in the control room.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Run, run, run, phase. Run, run, run, phase. Katherine Anne Pryde had worked herself into a rut; run a few meters, phase through the next wall, run a few more meters...And the worst part of it was that it seemed like the heavy fotsteps behind her just seemed to get louder. No matter how hard Kitty pumped her legs, no matter how many walls she phased through instead of bothering to search for a door, he was still gaining on her. Well, he had his ability to thank for that, the unstoppable momentum. Anyone would have thought that walking though walls like a ghost would have been much quicker than smashing through them like a cannon ball; unfortunately though it was not true in this case.

Shadowcat had tried to stop him, to slow him down at the least, but dropping him through the floor so he was buried in concrete up to his middle had done nothing to slow the human wrecking ball down. But she kept running anyway, what choice did she have? She couldn't leave the poor boy who had been the centre of so much contriversy of late to the mercy of Magneto and his Brotherhood, she couldn't let her team down like that.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own"
Katherine Anne Pryde's back was pressed hard up against the wall that her boyfriend had pinned her to when the shooting had started. Because his thick, muscled arms had been obsuring her view she had only caught glimpses of what was going on, but what she had seen had been enough to bleach her face of colour. A man with a gun, who she deduced was Frank Castle - Scott's murderer - had shot Kurt with some sort of tranquelizer, had made claims backed up with fairly believeable arguments to support the theory that Scott Summer's wasn't really dead, and had shot at Wade Wilson's already ravaged body before he retreated back into the elevator. Kitty wondered why no one had stopped him. She also wondered why Peter was still playing bread as he sandwiched her to the wall when the danger he had been trying to protect her from had just walked away. And while the young, brunette mutant desparately wanted to believe that her fellow murderer had been telling the truth about Cyclops not really being dead she knew that it was too much to hope for. Somewhere among the whirlpool of thoughts creating havoc in Kitty's mind there was one yelling at her to stop gaping at Wade's disgusting-looking body and close her eyes. And while Shadowcat wanted to comply more than anything in the world she couldn't stop staring at the mutialted body of the man she had pulled out of the wall then slapped across the face a few days ago.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

As soon as Katherine Anne Pryde heard Bobby's farmiliar voice she turned her gaze away from the window and beamed at him. She had always like Bobby; he was nice to her and had a good sense of humor and a pretty face to boot. There had once been a time when Kitty had had a crush on him, but he was with Rogue now, and she was with...no one. It had never bothered her before that she didn't have a boyfriend, she was only siteen afterall and she rather liked not being tied down, but now that she thought about it it might have been nice to have someone. Her brown eyes followed Bobby as he moved around the kitchen and when he commented on her mug she rolled her eyes, wondering why he always felt that he should make a remark on it everytime he saw it. Picking up another piece of the crisp bread between her thumb and forefinger she popped it into her mouth, chewing slowly to savor the flavour. When the Iceman asked her what she planned on doing today she frowned thoughtfully. "Dunno, I think I'll just hang out here," she answered after a short pause.

When the dark-haired girl entered the kitchen Kitty offered her a welcoming smile, letting her know that she shouldn't in anyway feel uncomfortable about using the kitchen. It wasn't like she was interrupting anything anyway. She had seen the doll-like girl around a few times before and assumed she was just one of the hundreds of mutant students attending Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Shadowcat didn't even know her name or what she could do, but that was fairly normal, out of the hundreds of kids there Kitty might have known the names of about fifty and the powers of about half that many. Not even flinching when an over-head light blew Kitty threaded her small hand through the handle of her mug and lifted it to her lips, taking a long sip and turning her attention back to Robert Drake, but had to tear it away from him once more when Alexandria bounded over to her.

Katherine found that she didn't much mind anymore about being left out of her and Ashley's plans, she had Bobby to talk to now anyway so it wasn't like she was going to be alone. Plus Kitty didn't really want to be cooped up inside when she hadn't been outside in three days. The brunette girl who could walk through walls would rather alone outdoors than inside with the two girls. So she waved away Jolt's suggestion that she join them when she was done eating with a simple but polite, "No thanks." Kitty watched as Alexandria dragged Ashley over to the door and gave a half-hearted wave to them before she could finally get back to talking to Bobby. "What about you?" she asked curiously, wondering if the eighteen-year-old had any plans himself.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own"
Kitty blinked as if she was coming out of a trance when Jean laid the sheet over Wade's mutilated body. 'Why has so much gone wrong this week?' the young mutant asked herself, her brown eyes sweeping over the room and it's many occupants. 'Everyone in here is hurting for some reason or another.Their home's been destroyed...' Her eyes found purchase on the red-haired doctor, '...their love ones have been killed...' next her eyes lingered on Kurt's unmoving body, '...they've been shot...' Kitty looked up at the man holding her to the wall then, her chin and bottom lip shaking, '...someone's walked out on them...' her eyes quickly moved on to Wade's body which was still identifiable even under the sheet, '...people have killed and been killed...'

"This is why I don't make so many jokes. I never know when is good."
When Kitty looked away from him Peter lifted a hand to her cheek and gently turned her face back towards him, putting on a small, assuring smile. His girlfriend was obviously hurting in more ways than one, as he could see in her beautiful but traumatised brown eyes, eyes that used to be happy and full of joy. Things had happened that week that could never be reversed, they couldn't go back in time and fix everything that had gone wrong but still Piotr would have done anything to make that better, to bring some light back into Kitty Pryde's eyes. So, taking her small hand in his big one he carefully pulled her away from the wall, coaxing her across the room to the wall furthest away from the action. He sat her down then sat himself down beside her, the two both had their knees ointing up at the ceiling, shoulder to shoulder and thigh to thigh, they could almost have been a mirror in between them, except for the obvious size and appearance differences. Peter held Kitty's hands in both of his, his head turned towards her and his blue eyes locked on her's. Words would not be needed for the time being, but they would become nessessary in due time.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Katherine grinned at Bobby's suggestion that they go ice skating on the pond, she hadn't been ice skating since she had gone to visit her parents last winter and she was starting to miss the frozen water beneath her feet. Swallowing the last bit of raisin toast so her would be mouth free to make words Kitty put the plate down beside her, but before she could tell the Iceman just how much she would like that Jubilee burst into the room. Just the mention of Lance's name kicked Shadowcat's heart into overdrive and she was soon chugging down the rest of her orange juice and jumping off the counter. Feeling slightly guilty for leaving Bobby when they had been in the middle of a conversation Kitty turned on her heel, an apologetic expression marking her otherwise unmarked face. "I'm sorry, Bobby," she said sincerely. And because she didn't know if Lance just wanted to talk to her or if he wanted to do something with her - which would be the more preferable of the two options - she told Robert that she'd "Be back soon," because even if Lance did want to hang out and not just talk she would go back and tell him so. As she made for the door leading out of the kitchen she the female mutant who had brought the news a sheepish smile.

Still feeling bad for ditching Bobby Kitty promised herself that she would make it up to him later. Making her way across the living room to the comms until beside the front door Kitty Pryde lifed her hand to her mouth, checking for any crumbs from breakfast that could have stuck to her face. Holding the button down Kitty said, "Hello? This is Kitty Pryde." Of course she knew who was out there and could have just as easily phased outside to see him Katherine wanted to do it this way.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own"
As soon as the comet was out of Earth's atmosphere Katherine Anne Pryde starting shaking. Suddenly she was aware of every atom in her body, every tiny, vibrating atom, it was like she had been blind and now she could see again. Taking her hands out of Peter's and holding them up to her face Kitty frowned, wondering why they didn't appear to be shakin at all whilst she felt like she was in an earthquake house. All the shaking was starting to give her a painful migrane just like the one she had had at her house two years ago when she had first discovered her powers. And before Kitty could say anything or do anything to prevent what was just about to happen she was gone; fallen through the floor of the infirmiry like a bullet fired into quicksand. It was just like freefalling, except through the ground instead of the air and Kitty was soon out of the new mansion entirely, amongst the dirt and rocks as gravity pulled her towards the centre of the earth. It didn't bother Shadowcat in the slightest that she was about a minute away from burning at the Earh's core and she looked around, her brown eyes wide in awe and amazement like a little kid in a theme park. When her lungs started burning though, begging her to fill them with oxygen Kitty knew that her time was up and she propelled herself upwards. Before long she was back in the infirmiry, grinning from ear-to-ear. She had never felt so free or so alive and she couldn't believe that she had managed to forget what it felt like to be the kind of mutant she was in the short hours that the comet had hung around for.

"This is why I don't make so many jokes. I never know when is good."
At first Piotr Rasputin was too preoccupied with the return of his own mutant powers to notice the absense of his girlfriend but after turning his whole body to steel and back a few times he finally realised that the young girl who had been at his side was gone. But before he could react she was back, with a smile that lit up her whole, tear-stained face. He knew what had happened instantly and was on his feet just as quickly, wrapping his big arms around her small frame and hugging her tightly, smiling as the muffled sounds of her squeals of delight reached his ears. He hadn't felt the hole in his being that being powerless has left until it was gone again and he finally understood why humans despised them so; not because they thought that mutants were dangerous, but rather because they were jealous. Hearing the girl he loved's laughter as he tightened his arms around her[ and lifted her off the ground he knew that they had good reason to be so envious. Then he saw him, the man with the gun. He stopped dead and put Kitty down, making a rapid change from Piotr Rasputin, the Russian man in love, to Colossus, the X-Men with a job to do. He didn't smile this time as his skin was coated in organic steel; there was no reason to. They were in danger yet again and he had to do something about it. Colossus appraiched the man slowly, his ands held up in the international sign that he meant no harm.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own"
Kitty didn't think she had known true happiness until her boyfriend was spinning her around, it seemed like the only happiness she had known before had been as fake as Emma Frost's breats. But all too soon that moment of true happiness was over as Peter put her back on the ground, his tones and muscled body changing into his mutant form as he turned his back on her. Something was wrong. Again. Ready to phase at a moments notice Shadowcat followed the Russian mutant, a few steps behind him and slightly to his left so she could see what was going on. And the moment she did; the moment she saw the gun; her heart seemed to stop. 'Whats with the world and guns?!' she wanted to scream. How many guns had she seen in the past week? How many bullet holes had she seem? More than her fair share, she was sure. Kitty didn't understand why people were so intent on hurting others, why they liked to see blood on their hands. She certainly hadn't liked to see the crimson stain under her nails, thus the graffiti of self-inflicted cuts on the palm of her hands. "I think you want to put that down," she said firmly but gently, refering to the gun in David's hands. "They tend to hurt people,"

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Completely oblivious to Bobby's distrust and dislike of the Brotherhood mutant Kitty stayed near the comms unit, waiting rathered impatienty for Lance's response. As time ticked by, echoed by the Grandfather clock a few meters away, and there was still no reply, she began to suspect that Jubilee had just been messing with her about Lance's presence at the gate, that or Lance had chickened out and decided to go home before he even got to speak to her - it wouldn't have been a first since any mutant who answered the door when he came usually gave him a hard time. But as the intercom buzzed back on all Kitty's fears and doubts were shot down.

As he spoke her smile got wider and wider, not minding at all that him asking her out for coffee was so cliche or what her saying yes would imply. When he was finished speaking and it was her turn to reply again her smile could have put New York City's lights to shame. All thoughts of Bobby and his nice offer to freeze the pond over so they could go ice skating were pushed to the back of her mind, and Lance's suggestion to go "get some coffee" took centre stage. Kitty felt sso elated; Lance was asking her out for coffee!

Holding the button down once more Katherine lowered her mouth to the height of the intercom and spoke into it. "I'd love to," she started, trying to sound as non-chalant about it as possible since she must have read it about a hundred times that she shouldn't sound too eager. Then it dawned on her that no one was really allowed to leave campus without the professor's or Ororo's permission. 'What the heck!' she thought, 'It's not like I need the key to get outta here. I can walk through walls!' Biting her bottom lip Kitty looked back at the kitchen, 'I should probably tell someone though...just in case Lance...well, just in case.' Agreeing with herself Kitty said, "I'll be out in a sec. Just gotta tell someone where I'm going,"

Kitty didn't wait dor a reply before she took her finger off the button and skipped back into the kitchen. Seeing Bobby made her feel guilty all over again. "Hey Bobby, could I have a raincheck on that ice skating thing?" she asked hopefully, biting her bottom lip again. "I kinda got a thing..." she finshed, motioning towards the door.

After hearing the announcement over the speaker John grinned. "'Bout frreakin' time," he smirked, thrusting his hand into his pocket and retireving his lighter. Pyro was still playing with the flame in his hand when Mystique turned up beside him, looking as naked and as blue as ever. Even though he desperately wanted to go find Julianet and celebrate with her he knew that being at Magneto's side was infinately more important as present. "Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Katherine's head was back out from under the covers, her dark hair splayed around her in beautiful contrast to the white pillowcase. She was laying on her back, her head lolled to the side, her limbs sprawled haphazardly. Her eyes moved behind her eyelids as she dreamed and every-so-often on of her long, bare legs would twitch.

Kitty reached yet another bleached white wall and ran straight though it. One look at the room told her everything she wanted to know. The walls were the same horrile white colour, as were the floors, but there were slashes of colour in this room; colourful toys littered the floor and a red duvet marked the bed, letting any visitor know that it was a child's bedroom. She had finally made it to her destination, now all she had to do was find the child and get out of there before the Juggernaut came crashing in.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Katherine Pryde's grin only widened when Bobby agreed to taking a raincheck on going ice skating. Now everyone could be happy - or so she thought - she got to go out with Lance, and Bobby and her still got to go ice skating. "Thank you," she said gratefully before turning on her heel to look at Jubilee, fortunately missing the eye-rolling. "Umm...So I'll have my phone, if anyone needs me..." she told the female mutant with a firm nod before she skipped out the door, her damp, brown pony-tail bouncing along behind her.

The sixteen year old ran all the way up to her room, phasing through anythng that got in her way, including a student who had still been rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. She had laughed as he screamed in surprise and yelled over her shoulder a quick apology. When she finally reached her turret room she grabbed a few twenties from her purse - just in case she'd have to pay - and her phone - as promised - shoving each into a pocket of her very short jeans. Next she examined herself in the full length mirror next to her door, pursing her lips thoughtfully as she did so. Once she was sure there wasn't a hair out of place she ran back to the front door.

Closing a small hand around the door handle Kitty twisted and stepped outside, her trade-mark Kitty smile spreading onto her lips when she saw who was waiting for her on the otherside of the gate. She hadn't seen Lance in over a week, having been too busy with school work and programming the new scenario into the Danger Room, but thats not to say she hadn't bee thinking about him. And now that she saw him she realised that her mind's eyes had not done him justice. Okay, so he was her friend, but that didn't mean she couldn't find him extremely attractive did it?

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Kitty had smirked and rolled her eyes when Lance had lifted a hand and waved to her from the other side of the gate; he could be such a dork sometimes. She kept her eyes on her feet as she made her way down the long, cement path leading from the mansion's front doors to the front gate. She only looked up when she heard Logan's farmliar voice and when she saw that he was adressing Lance her face fell dramatically; she was a kid caught with her hand in the cookie jar. "Busted," she breathed. But there was no turning back now, the older mutant had no doubt seen her and there was no way she was going to leave Lance at Logan's mercy.

She could just make out Logan's voice from where she was, not even a tenth of the way down the mile-long driveway, but Lance's voice was a lot harder to hear and she could only make out every few words. Even so, Kitty understood the general gist of the conversation; Logan thought Lance was there to apologise for what he had done the last time he was here. But Kitty knew it wouldn't take long for the Wolverine to realise why Lance was really there, Logan wasn't stupid afterall. When another figure appeared and went to stand by Lance Kitty frowned; had he brought one of the Brotherhood with him? Had he not just come to see her? Shadowcat picked up her pace, power-walking to the gate.

The power-walk soon became a run though when the two mutants men started fighting. She sprinted down the driveway, pumping her legs as fast as her body would allow. What the hell were those two doing?! "Lance!" Kitty screamed, annoyance lacing her voice. She couldn't believe what was happening, couldn't believe that Lance had actually done something so stupid as to break Logan's bike, did he know that Logan wouldn't let up after that? Obviously not. Kitty kept her eyes up and locked on the mutants as she sprinted towards them, even though she knew she wasn't going to reach them in time.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

"LOGAN!" Katherine shrieked. She couldn't believe that both of them were doing that to her! Each was as bad as the other. She had always thought that Logan was better then that, mature enough not to let Lance destroying his bike get to him. And Lance, what had he been thinking? Taking on the Wolverine as if he truely believed that he could beat him. And now he was just lying there? Unmoving as Logan pressed his claws into his throat. Kitty had no idea what she was going to do once she reached them - which was going to be any moment now - and she hoped that someone in the house had heard her, she hoped that someone might come help.

When she reached the gate she phased straight through the cold, metal bars and before she knew what she was doing she had launched herself at Logan, sending them both - claws, clothes and all - through the ground. Even as she sunk into the ground with Logan in tow Kitty started to wonder why she had chosen that course of action out of everything else she could have done. She knew the answer, she just refused to admit it; whilst she cared a great deal for Logan and considered him like a father she hadn't been able to let him hurt Lance while she could have done something to prevent it.

A few seconds later she brought them both back up again, on the road afew metres away from where Lance lay because the Earth had been moving about them while they had been incorporial. It had hurt, phasing someone so big with her, especially when there hadn't been any air to breathe under the ground and because Logan's adamantium skeleton was so dense. Laying on her side on the ashfault next to the Wolverine Kitty laced the fingers of one hand into her already mussed hair, hoping to make it feel even a little better.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Kitty groaned quietly when she heard Logan speaking to Lance and then proceeded to play father and threaten to hunt her down if she didn't answer her phone. Taking the hand away from her still-throbbing head she slowly got herself up off the ground, just in time to hear Lance apologising, though for what she couldn't for the life of her work out. He couldn't possibly be saying sorry for breaking Logan's bike, that wouldn't be like him at all. Kitty also didn't understand what he had meant by the rest of the world not caring either, did he know that she cared? Hadn't she made it obvious by phasing Logan off him, thus saving his life? Obviously not. And she hated herself for it. She was and always had been a strong believer in not letting people think that they were useless or unloved, but judging by what Lance had just said she had failed miserably at her own personal mission.

She stood in the middle of the empty road, bits of gravel sticking to her clothes and bare legs, hugging herself and watching with sad, ashamed eyes as Lance walked away from her. She couldn't go after him, she knew by the way he had said those last few words and the fact that he was now walking away from her that her company would not be welcomed. She turned her eyes on Logan, glaring daggers at the mutant who had driven who she had considered to be her best friend away. Realising that the mobile in her back pocket was now of no use to her since she had phased with it she drew it out of her pocket, throwing it to the ground. "Thanks alot, Logan," she growled before stalking past him and the female mutant, headed back to the mansion.

"What's'a matter, you never seen a teen-age all-American ghost before?"

Everything is so fragile.
There’s so much conflict, so much pain…
You keep waiting for the dust to settle then you realise this is it:
The dust is your life going on.
If happy comes along, that weird unbearable delight that’s actually happy—
“I think you have to grab it while you can.
You have to take what you can get.
Cause it’s here, and then…
Gone”

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Kitty's small hands were clenched into fists at her sides, ready to hit something. She wasn't usually a violent person, but after the stunt Logan had just pulled with Lance she couldn't help but feel the desire to bash the living daylights out of the next thing that stood in her way. The fantasic mood she had been in when she had woken up at the Danger Room control panel was nothing but a distant memory now. She was halfway up the driveway when the screech of tired stopped her in her tracks, making her look back over her shoulder for the sourse of the sound. Her small mouth fell open, and she stood there, gaping at Avalanche as he drove up behind her then made a sharp turn to put the jeep right in front of her, blocking the front doors of the mansion from her view.

'What the hell is he playing at?!' she asked herself, still seething with barely supressed rage. She couldn't believe that after what he had just done he would still have the guts to ask her to get in his car. She was on the verge of saying no and walking right through the vehicle as if it didn't exist when she looked over her shoulder at Logan. When she turned her gaze back on Lance she grinned; her mind was made up. Pulling the passenger side door open and stepping up onto the small ledge above the front wheel she climbed into the jeep, sitting herself down in the padded seat before reaching out and pulling the door shut.
