"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Kitty didn't know why she had felt so compelled to hug Logan, in fact she didn't know alot of things nowadays - like why she was still being haunted with images and sounds of what had transpired on Alcatraz Island - but she did know one thing as surely as she knew she was a mutant and as surely as she knew her own name: If it had been Jean, or Scott, or even the Professor who had walked through that kitchen door she would have flung her arms around them just as she had done to Logan. Because everytime anyone left now - even if it was just for a day or a week - she would start worrying that she would never see them again.

When the two mutants were done hugging Kitty stepped backed to her seat and hid her grimace when she was told that Rogue was back too in her hot chocolate. 'Welcome. Yeah right,' she thought angrily. When Logan went off to go see the cured mutant Kitty felt a twinge of jealously, everyone always chose Rogue over her...Okay, so maybe it wasn't just a twinge, it was a whole bucket load. She looked down into the depths of her hot chocolate that had been put back down after she had taken a sip, trying not to show how annoyed she was about the return of Marie.

Kitty rose back to her feet when she heard the screaming, even though she hadn't heard Rogue's boice in a long time she still recognised the scream. She was purposefully slower to react than Ororo had been though, jogging up the stairs after her in her striped toe-socks. She looked into the room over Storm's shoulder, frowning when she saw Logan covered in wounds that hadn't been there a minute ago. She snorted quietly and rolled her eyes dramatically when she realised what the matter was. 'I bet she never even took it, the coward. She just played chicken and ran off before she could get killed at Alcatraz.' Kitty knew she was being a b***h, but she couldn't help it. She had never been more grateful for the Professor absence, or grateful at all for that matter, but she was glad he couldn't hear her thoughts right at that moment.

"On it, Storm," The youngest X-Men sighed, trying not to make her displeasure too obvious as she sunk down through the floor like Indianna Jones into quicksand. The raced into the kitchen and had to stand on her tippy-toes to get the medical kit down from the top of the fridge, then she ran back up the stairs to hand over the metal box filled with first aid stuff. She held the kit out at arms length from where she stood in the doorway, not wanting to get any closer to the "cured" cure-taker.

This is the story of my life...
Kitty had removed her hand from her mouth and had pulled her knees up to her chest, sitting in the exact same way she had sat after she had killed the man in the alleyway back in New York. She threaded her bloody fingers into her tangled, brown hair and rested the top of her head on her knees, rocking back and forth on the spot ever so slightly. Her head felt like it was about to explode and her stomach didn't feel much better. But it wasn't just the outside of her head where she had been kicked by her best friend that hurt, the inside felt funny too, like her brain was vibrating somehow. And it felt all wrong, really really wrong. The words echoing down to her from the stairwell didn't make any sense, she couldn't even pick out the different voices or work out where one word stopped and the next started. Kitty Pryde just wanted to crawl under a rock and die - or phase into a rock and die, either way - thats how horrible she felt.

Your tears don't fall, they crash around me...
Piotr didn't pay attention attention whatsoever to Ororo telling him to slow down, if anything he sped up, desperate to get to the brunette mutant he had fallen in love with over a year ago. He felt like he had been running down stairs for eternity and was never ever going to reach his destination, but finally he saw it, the last step. He sprinted into the dark, dusty basement, his eyes seeking out Kitty like a predator seeking out its prey. His heart jumped into his throat when he saw her and he ran to her falling to his knees by her side, one hand on her back and the other on her shin. "Kitty," he cooed, rubbing his hand up and down her back as gently as he could. When she didn't answer her tried again. "Katherine," he said louder.

Your tears don't fall, they crash around me...
Peter's heart melted as Kitty's brown eyes met his blue ones, and, despite himself, he smiled. The expression was dismissed from his face quickly though when he saw what lay behind her beautiful eyes. Pain, guilt, anger, hatred, fear, all were displayed openly. "Kitty," The Russian mutant sighed, moving the had that had been on her back up to her wild hair, running his fingers through it tenderly. He swivelled so he was kneeling in front of her instead and brought his other hand up to cup her still bruised - from when John had hit her - cheek. His plan to try and avoid Katherine Pryde, to bury what he felt for her, was well and truly down the toilet, but he didn't care. Nor did he care that Storm was nearby, most probably watching his every move, and judging him. All that mattered to him now, and all that ever would, was Kitty.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Kitty let her bare arm fall back to her side when Ororo took the first aid kit from her. She leant against the door frame, arms crossed over her chest as she watched Storm patch Logan up. She kept her eyes on the two older mutants, not allowing her gaze to slide over to the traitor slumped against the wall. 'Why now?' the youngest X-Men asked herself, 'Why did she chose now to come and ruin everything?'. Katherine Pryde had never really been the best of friends with Rogue, Kitty had far preferred to spend her free time alone or on a computer somewhere, but the two girls had gotten along just fine, until Bobby had come into the picture. But the pure hatred Kitty felt towards Rogue now had nothing at all to do with Bobby, instead it came from the fact that in Kitty's persepctive; Rogue had betrayed them. She had let them just when they were the most vunerable, right after the Professor had passed, and had volintarily taken the cure. 'And Logan thinks he can just bring her back here? Just like that? He didn't even ask if we wanted her back, he just assumed that traitor would be welcomed back with open arms, as if she had never left? Who does he think he is?!'.

Kitty's gaze had wandered over to the window of its own accord and as she came back to herself she blinked, shaking her head ever so slightly as if to clear it. When she heard Storm ask someone if they were okay she thought she had been speaking to Rogue but when she looked back at the headmistress she realised it was in fact her she was asking. "Yes," Kitty answered evenly, "I'm fine." she said simply. She suddenly felt something tugging at her arm and looked to the door frame, sucking in a quick breath when she saw that her arm had phased into the wall. She sighed quickly and roughly yanked it out, standing up straight now. "I'm going back to bed," she said to no one in particular, before she turned on her heel and stalked off down the corridor.

She had lost control of her emotions - for the third time that week - which had inadvertedly let her arm phase into the wall, the tugging she had felt had been her atoms rearranging themselves to match the wall's. Kitty hated not being in control - just as Logan and Ororo did - as it made her feel useless and pathetic. As the little brunette mutant stomped down the corridor to her room she doubted she would be able to sleep, but she couldn't go back down to the kitchen and she definately couldn't have stayed in the same room as the traitor - as she was now calling Rogue - for a minute longer. When she got to her door she flung it open instead of phasing through it, just so she could slam it behind herself. As it made a loud clunk when it locked into place Kitty smiled, slamming doors and throwing things around always made her feel better.

This is the story of my life...
Normally having Peter touch her liked that would have kicked her heart into overdrive and her and Chelsae would have discussed and giggled about it for hours. But her heart was still recovering from the shock of discovering Chelsae had been the one attacking her, and because of her aforementioned best friend attacking her, the two weren't likely to be talking or giggled about anything anytime soon. When the little girl on the floor heard Ororo's voice her sad, brown eyes rose to look at her. She was beyond relieved to hear her suggestion that they take her to her room instead of back to the infirmiry, she didn't think she'd be able to cope with being prodded with needles and hooked up to machines after what had just transpired. Katherine nodded solemnly to Storm's question, she would like nothing more to crawl under the covers and sleep for eternity, even if it meant never waking up.

Piotr's eyes had sweot over Kitty's body the moment he had spotted her sitting in the fetal position on the floor in the middle of the basement, checking for damage like he had been trained. She had looked fine, not her best, but she wasn't injured visably - apart from the bandages on her hands, which he made a mental note of to ask Jean about later - or otherwise visably hurting. He angled his head to look up at Ororo as she placed a hand on his shoulder, having almost forgotten she was there, in the room with them. He thought taking her to her room was a fabulous idea, that way she could rest and recuperate without being disturbed. He waited until Kitty had agreed to climb to his feet, offering her his hand to help herself up with.

Kitty took Peter's big hand gratefully and used it to pull herself to her feet. All the blood immediately rushed to her head and she stumbled. The youngest X-Men thought she should tell someone about Chelsae, but she didn't want to betray her best friend, especially if she had had a good reason for doing what she had. So Kitty kept her mouth shut, doubting she would have been able to find her voice even if she had wanted to say something. Her head was throbbing and still felt fuzzy, things just a few feet in front of her were out of focus and her stomach ached like she had been punche in the gut, which funnily enough had actually happened. Her legs felt a million miles away and she didn't think she'd be able to walk very far without assistance so she didn't mind one bit when Peter scooped her up into his big, muscled arms.

When Peter noticed how Kitty stumbled just after she had stood up he was quick to step in and steady her. He too doubted she would be able to make it up the stairs, let alone all the way back to the dorms, so without asking he hoisted her up, practically sitting her on his left hip. "Alright," he said to Ororo, "Lets go," With that the twenty-five year old Russian mutant left the dark basement and started back up the stairs. Despite his love's current condition he felt lighter than he ever had, Kitty was safe, a bit wore for wear, but otherwise alright. And she was only going to get better, or so he hoped anyways. He left Ororo at the top of the stairs, promising to take Kitty straight to the room he had saved for her.

He kept his promise and was soon laying an already asleep Katherine Pryde down on her single canopy bed, pulling the covers up over her tiny form. He sighed contently once she was tucked into her bed and pulled up a chair, happy to watch over her until she woke up. In fact he would be happy to watch over her for the rest of her life.

This is the story of my life...
When Katherine Pryde finally awoke she was too scared to open her eyes. She was afraid that if she did she would discover that she hadn't dreamed up all that had happened in the last few days, or worse, that she had. So she just lay there, letting her mind wander through all the possibilites of where she would find herself when she decided to open her eyes.

'What if I dreamed up the whole "I'm a mutant" thing?' Kitty asked herself, 'What if I'm still a thirteen-year old girl in Iowa with my parents? Could I have just imagined all those years with the X-Men?' The little brunette didn't want to think about that possible scenario, it was too horrible to comprehend - being human, what could be a worse fate then that? Then she thought of one. 'What if I'm in a mental institution? What if mutants don't even exist? Oh God, what if I'm insane?!' Now she really didn't want to open her eyes. 'Don't be silly, Kitty,' she told herself sternly, 'You don't feel insane do you? No, but I am kinda talking to myself...Don't crazy people do that?' She argued with herself, feeling very much like the Lord of the Rings character Golemn. 'Okay Katherine, calm down,' she instructed herself, 'I'll make a list of all the possible places I can be. Here goes. (a) Home, Iowa. (b) A mental institution. (c) The mansion in Westchester. (d) The Brotherhood - locked up. (e) Outside the mansion in Westchester - after its burnt down. (f) In Chelsae's car. (g) On the road after phasing out of Chelsae's car. (h) The Brotherhood - by choice. (i) Alley with Logan. (j) Gabriel's Room. (k) In the kitchen of the new mansion. (l) In the infirmary. (m) In the infirmary bathroom. (n) In the - STOP!' She forced herself to stop thinking, she couldn't handle all the possibilities, as each one threaded of into a million of different ones, like a very complicated mind map. Tears were dribbling out of the corner of each of her closed eyes, begging her to let them open so they could see where they were for themselves, instead of letting her mind's eye make up possibilities for them. Kitty refused them that privilege, instead she decided to ask someone, she didn't dare open her mouth though, in case she was in a mental institution. 'Professor?' she whimpered in her mind, the one word that would answer the most important question she had. Am I a mutant?

The big Russian had fallen asleep in the chair where he sat in Kitty's room, hardly moving on the seat as he dozed. "Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Kitty stomped across the room to her bed, grabbing the pillow off it and throwing it at the wall in a fit of rage, accompanying it with an angry mix between a groan and a scream. She sat down on her unmade bed then, crossing her arms over her chest as she continued to play the sulking little brat. She ignored the commotion she could hear going on below, she knew Ororo and Logan could handle it. What did they need her for anyway? All she could do was phase through walls. And besides, they had Rogue now, their little "star child" was back, with her powers very much intact. Kitty grabbed up another pillow and held it over her face as she screamed the rest of her anger into it.

'Okay, so he's not replying...But that doesn't mean anythig, Kitty, he could just be busy. You're not going to know you're crazy for sure unless you open your eyes,' she assured herself. 'Now, c'mon, stop being such a coward and open your damn eyes!' Kitty took a deep breath, preparing herself for what she was about to do. 'Okay, I'm gonna open them in five, four, three, two, one.' her eyes stayed closed. 'Why didn't you open them?!' the devil on her shoulder demanded. "I can't," she answered, unknowingly speaking outloud. 'Yes, you can dear,' the angel spoke up. 'It's not hard, you just gotta let them open,'. The devil smirked, 'Not hard, thats right, Kitty-Kat, not compared to killing that man...' "SHUT UP! That might not have even happened, okay?" Kitty told the devil angrily. 'Well your not going to know until you open your eyes, are ya?' The devil replied, his toe patronising. And just like that he had wo the batle and got Kitty to open her eyes.

The first thing her brown orbs found purchase on was the huched fingure in the chair afew feet away. "Peter?" The brunette girl breathed, unable to believe her eyes. "Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Kitty Pryde let the pillow drop back into her lap, she was quickly becoming ashamed of how she had acted around Rogue and was starting to regret her less than admirable behaviour towards her once, and now apparently again, fellow mutant. She knew she should go apologise, to Ororo and Logan as well as Rogue, but decided she should change first. She stood up and made her bed, putting her carelessly disguared iPod away in it's proper place on her desk before stripping off her nightshirt and taking a shower. ShadowCat, as she went by on missions and in the Danger Room, held the bath towel around her as she picked out an outfit for the day, deciding on a pair on short cut, low riding jeans, that she had grown increasingly fond of after seeing Bobby's reaction to her wearing them, and a tight, grey tank top. Once she was dressed she pulled her hair up into it's signature pony-tail and slipped into a pair of high heel sandals, going over her apologies in her head. Kitty was determined not to act the immature little brat. Unless she could help it.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Kitty was disposing of the last bits of glass she had cleaned up from the living room when she heard the doorbell ring out through the mansion. She quickly rid her hands of the dustpan she had used to clean up the mess, replacing it where it belonged under the sink. The sixteen year old girl had been about to go get the door when she heard the tell-tale sign of the door opening. She presumed that someone else had got the door so she busied herself cleaning up the mess in the kitchen, even going so far as to putting the dishwasher on. Katherine listened to the voices out in the other room, gleaming what information she could from what they were saying. Apparently two women from the Brotherhood wanted to switch sides and joi them instead, she also learnt that one of those women had been involved in the fight a little while ago. With a sigh Kitty cleaned her hands on one of the tea towels in the room before moving out into the kitchen, only to discover Rogue, Gabriel and a women she hadn't seen before who was nursing what looked like twin new-borns. Kitty crossed her arms over her chest, determined to find out what had just happened. As a rule she hadn't been a very trusting person since Alcatraz Island, and found it hard to believe that anyone from the Brotherhood would say they wanted to change to their side, she found it even harder to believe that Gabriel had allowed them to stay and instructed them to go find a room with niether Ororo's or Logan's permission. "What did you just do?" Kitty demanded, a touch of anger and disbelief in her voice.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Kitty's eyes flicked over to the Brotherhood women who had supposedly changed sides as she spoke, her brown eyes narrowed as she looked her over. She brought her attention back to Gabriel when he answered though, tilting her chin up to look him in the eyes, a few loose pieces of her hair brushed her cheeks in the softest of caresses as she did so. Her heart kicked up a notch as it usual did when Bobby - or Gabriel because he was just so damn good looking - stood this close to her. "If they do turn out to be spies," she began, quietly so she wouldn't be overheard, "I wanna piece of them too," she finished with a cheeky smile, resiting the urge to become incorporial and phase Gabriel's hands off her shoulders and through her, instead dropping her hands back to her sides. She half turned her head to look at Rogue when she spoke, only just managing to fight back a scowl when she called her Kat - she had always hated that version of her nickname, it was even worse then Kitty-Kat or Kit-Kat. "Couldn't you?" she asked in a whisper, not appreciating that Rogue was pretty much asking her to flee when she would much rather stay and fight. She turned her gaze on the previously pregnant women when she spoke up, her eyes flickering down to the two babies in her arms, biting her tongue to stop herself cooing out loud an the cuteness of the obviously newborn twins. "Your under the X-Men's protection now. You won't have to fight her. Gabe and I can handle it," she told her, turning her attention back to the only male in the room, her thick lips twitching up into a smile.

She did phase out of his grip now, flitting over to the woman from the Brotherhood where she still stood on the stairs. "Hello," she said brightly, holding out her hand like the most gracious of hosts, "I'm Katherine Pryde, but please call me Kitty, as in the baby cat," she introduced herself sweetly with her nicest of smiles.

It was going to be a while before Kitty could get past that, if she ever did, and constantly walking into walls wasn't going to be helping anything. Despite her efforts Kitty just couldn't stop thinking! She hated it, hated everything, hated everyone, hated the whole world period. She shoved her hads into her hair, practically tearing it from its roots before she through herself to the floor. "I can't do this anymore," she cried, tears coming thick and fast again.
...and the lies I hide behind.

We're going till the world stops turning...
John groggily opened his eyes, blinking rapidly in the light that the curtains o the window failed to block out. He lifted his hands to his face and picked the sleep out of the corners of his eyes before he remembered where he was. He sat up suddenly, looking around wildly for his girlfriend. His through the covers off himself and jumped to his feet, his eyes still frantically searching for Julianet. A quick glance at the clock told him the time and he cursed, he never usually slept that long and hated himself for it, more so because he hadn't been in his own bed. He moved oer to the door and peeked out into the corridor, "Julianet?" he hissed.
...while we burn it to the ground tonight.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own,"

Kitty smiled sweetly at Kayla after she introduced herself even though her tone told her that she was less than impressed by Kitty's actions. She had to bite her tongue to stop herself saying something uber-bitchy to the girl about how she felt about her staying there. When she felt at hand on her lower back she almost yelped outloud and phased through the floor. She was definately not used to being snuck up on, and most of the mutants at the school knew better then to come at her from behind, she hadn't been voted 'Most Likely to Scream and Go Through the Floor' for nothing. When she saw it was Gabriel though the blood rushed to her cheeks and it only deepenws when he smiled and winked at her. She would have said yes a hundred times over to Gabriel's offer to play basketball, even though she wasn't any good- anything to get away from Rogue - but when her new best friend forever accepted his offer first she caught herself, not wanting to be shown up in front of the hottest guy in the school, at least if it had been just her and him they would have had a good laugh about her skills with the orange ball, or lack of them. She started back down the stairs and walked right past Rogue and Azreal as if they weren't there, crashing down onto the sofa and grabing up a magazine. By the time the kids started to come down for breakfast Kitty had glanced up at the window about a bizzilion times and was never impressed by what she saw. Kayla was practically flirting with Gabriel, flaunting her body around the basketball court, and he was lapping it all up. Kitty knew she shouldn't be jealous, she had Bobby afterall, but she couldn't help it; there had always been a neutral attraction between her and Gabriel, or so she had thought, and now he was drooling over another girl. With an annoyed huff she threw the magazine down onto the coffee table and stalked up a set of invisible stairs, phasing through the cieling and into her bedroom when she reached it, purposefully demonstrating the full extent of her powers for everyone in the room.

Grabbing her silver, brand-new laptop off her desk and shoving her mobile into the back pocket of her tight, short jeans - incase Bobby wanted her - she phased back through the floor, landing lightly on the balls of her feet in the living room. With her face expressionless and unreadable she strode up to the nearest wall and walked through that so she was outside. Sauntering up to her favourite tree on the grounds which just happened to be in view of the basketball court she pushed the portable computer up onto the thich branch the liked to sit on before closing her hands around it and pulling herself up. She straddled the branch, giving anyone looking the perfect view of her toned dancer's legs, and sat the laptop in front of herself.
