"This is why I don't make so many jokes. I never know when is good."
When there was no reply from Psylocke Colossus let out an exasperated sigh that - because he was still in his metal form - sounded somewhat like wind rushing through an empty tunnel. Even he was just doing it wrong or Psylocke just couldn't hear him for one reason or another. But before he had time to question that further or to try again a bright, white light caught him attention, leading his gaze to the top corner of a roof not too far away. As the thunder sounded not a moment later he was reminded of the signal Ororo had proposed. Something was going down on that roof top, and he had to get there, stat. But what was he to do about Emma? He couldn't just leave her there, not in the state she was in. "Emma," he started, turning his metal-coated eyes back on her. "Storm wants us up on that roof," he told her, pointing in the direction. "It's obviously really important that we get up there as soon as we can," The Russian stated, climbing to his steel-encased feet, holding a hand out as an offering to help the blond mutant up.

He didn't know what was going on with the White Queen, nor what was happening to her powers. But he hoped she'd get over it soon, she was vunerable in the state she was in and he didn't know what was happening up on that roof, he may not be able to protect her once they were up there.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own"
After John had passed out the fires had gone with him, growing smaller and smaller until they were nothing but cinders, evidence of just how much they had been relying on his powers. Katherine Anne Pryde herself was stiill stunned, standing exactly where she had been when Gabriel had tackled Pyro and knocked his fireball off course. Her leather uniform was covered in fine dirt, her hair was filled with it and her face steaked with it. There was dry blood right under her nose from when she had face-planted when she had had to dive out of the way to avoid a stream of flame and her left cheek was grazed and dotted with blood. She was sore all over and was going to be covered with bruises the next day. Yet she just stood there, dazed and disorientated, staring at John where he lay under Gabriel without really seeing either of them, lost in thoughts about how she could be dead, how he could have killed her.

It wasn't her first mission - though it may have been the first real, serious one in quite a while - and it wasn't the first time she had had to fight for her life in the last few days, but it was the first time she had seriously considered herself dead. It wasn't until Ororo came over to her and grasped her shoulders and asked it she was alright that she snapped out of it and came back to herself. She looked into the white-haired woman's eyes, then at Gabriel, then back again, putting the pieces of the puzzle together. They had come to save her, somehow they had known she was in danger and had come to her rescue. But why? Well, that was simple, because they didn't think she save herself. She was the baby, the youngest X-Man of the squad and they had come to protect her. "I can look after myself!" she yelled suddenly, her voice surprisingly strong and firm, commanding attention from everyone in hearing range. The space between her atoms cancelled out and Storm's hands fell though her shoulders. "I CAN LOOK AFTER MYSELF!" she screamed as she dropped back into the Earth.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own"
Katherine Anne Pryde hadn't exactly meant to phase, she hadn't meant to yell at Ororo Munroe either, infact in the last few disasterous, caotic days she hadn't meant to do alot of things. She had just had to escape; had to get away, from John - even in his unconscious form - from Gabriel and from Ororo. And her body had chosen the easiest, and most convenient means of withdrawl: letting her powers do the work and cancel out the spaces between her atoms, sending her straight through the ground and back into the earth.

It was peaceful down there; calm, cold, quiet, serene. It was a place that allowed her to be alone with her thoughts, a place that allowed her to take a quick breather from her life. Down there she was able to calm herself down and collect herself, she was able to soothe her inner turmoil and compose herself. She almost wished she could stay in the earth forever, but, if her screaming lungs were anything to go by, her time was limited and almost up. Being in the ground was like being under water in that way, she could only stay for as long as she could hold her breath. And though she was continuously practising breathing so she would be able to phase for longer she still only had a little over a minute in the serenity of the under-ground.

When Shadowcat resurfaced she was quite a few hundred meters from where she had been fighting with Pyro. She found herself in a small, half-burnt down yard, surrounded by S.H.I.E.L.D and MRD agents. The guns and gasps of surprise when she appeared in their midts no longer bothered her, she was confident that as long as she was in the X-Men uniform they weren't going to try stop her or at shoot her. So, once her feet were solid again and she had regained her centre of gravity, she started walking, going nowhere in particular.

Whilst in the ground she had been relatively calm now that she was back on the surface she was fuming again, so angry that she could almost feel the steam coming out of her ears. What Ororo and Gabriel had done, coming to her rescue, had greatly offended her. Did they honestly think she couldn't look after herself? That she, a perfectly capable X-Man like themselves, needed assistance in fighting off John? Of course she wasn't going to admit that she actually had, she wasn't going to acknowledge that without them she would be dead. Kitty refused to believe that she needed someone's aid, that she needed someone to take care of her. She thought herself a string, independent woman and she wasn't going to let anyone tell her otherwise.

"This is why I don't make so many jokes. I never know when is good."
Glad that Emma had agreed that they had somewhere to be and hadn't proposed that he go without her Piotr turned to point at the narrow fire-escaoe ladder that was attached to the side of the building. Without a word he took off in that direction, expecting that the White Queen would follow. When they reached the building Ororo had indicated with one of her lightening bolts however it was clear that the struggle on the roof was nearly over. Nevertheless Colossus started up the metal ladder, climbing hand-over-hand as fast as he could to reach the top. Thankfully he wasn't just a metal man, but a strong metal-man as well. Because without his muscles there would have been no way he could have hauled all that steel up the side of a building.

With the occassional glance over his shoulder to check on Emma the amoured Russian soon reached the roof, and propelled himself off the ladder and onto the concrete, just in time to be blinded by the mother of all lightening bolts. His eyes recovered quickly and after a quick survielance of the rooftop he found himself staring at the smoking body of Sabertooth. Next his gaze fell on a very aggitated looking Storm but were quickly drawn away again - before he could begin to question why she had called them there if she had the situation under control - by Logan as he appeared on the roof to retrieve the body of his fallen brother. Colossus watched as the Wolverine dragged Victor's mauled body away and it was not until the two animals were out of sight that he was able to look back to Ororo.

"It is over then?" he asked, "Are all the Brotherhood mutants accounted for?"

What's'a matter, never seen a teen-age all-American ghost before?
You're not scared of ghosts now, are you?

User ImageWhen it had appeared that Qucksilver was finally going to back down and go away Kitty had breathed a sigh of relief, glad that he was finally going to leave which would subsequently leave her alnoe with Lance, unless he decided to follow of course. Unfortunately the silver-haired male was stopping in his tracks by who Katherine could only guess were other Brotherhood members. She shrunk away from them, once again feeling small, weak and vulnerable. It hadn't been as bad when it had just been her, Lance and Pietro, but now that the two older mutants had joined them the odds weren't looking good, even if Lance fought with her. Fortunatley though, it didn't look like it was going to come down to a fight.

User ImageBy now Katherine had gotten her breath back and she tried to look less like a wounded puppy and alot more like a trained X-Man. She stood tall, pulled her shoulders back and set her jaw as she attempted to look confident and unafraid. Shadowcat may have only been a sixteen year old girl but she thought she could fein indifference pretty well. She ignored the remarks that the elder mutants were making, seeing no need to respond or react seeing as they were mostly directed at Lance. That didn't mean she didn't smile when Avalanche defended her though, glad he wasn't so ashamed of her that he would deny being in any kind of relationship with one of the "good guys."

User ImageBut that proud smile quickly faded away when her so called "boyfriend" turned on her. Even though she knew it was true his comments felt like a slap in the face, or, more accurately, a wake up call. Avalanche was not Mr Nice Guy, he had tried that once and it hadn't worked out, and that was something Kitty Pryde could not afford to forget. And despite her best efforts to remain looking like she was in control of the situation her expression took on one of hurt and betrayal when Lance removed himself from her side and inside stood with his comrades. Her mouth went dry and her throat closed up, as she started feeling a lot like the geeky kid in school who just been rejected because she wasn't one of the "in" crowd. Except it was worse, because it was Lance who had done the rejecting.

User ImageThen he actually started trying to give her orders! She didn't feel excluded after that, she felt pissed. Who did Lance think he was, trying to tell her what to do? Did he think he could control her? Did he think he was the boss of her? This wasn't the Lance she knew, he wasn't the guy who had taken her dancing, nor the guy who had asked her to be his girlfriend. This Lance was letting his friends treat her as if they were the bullies and she was their victim, this Lance was trying to order her around as if he owned her, this Lance was choosing the Brotherhood over her. There was another version of Lance standing in front of her, another side of him, and she did not like it. And she was not going to stand around and let him treat her like s**t.

User Image So despite not wanting to give him the satisfaction of knowing he could order her around she took his advice, turning on her heel and walking away. When she got the the Insitutes front gates she moved through them as if they didn't exist, her arms crossed over her chest as she started the long trek up the school's driveway. She hadn't gotten far before Avalanche called out to her, and as she turned she knew better than to expect an apology for his behaviour; nothing good was coming out of this Lance. She hardly heard what he said, too busy fuming to even care, but she did shoot him an angry glare over her shoulder, letting him know that she was far from impressed by what he had just done. Even if he paid no mind to it now he would surely remember it later.

"This is why I don't make so many jokes. I never know when is good."
To say that Piotr Rasputin was worried about his young girlfriend would have been the understatement of the years. He feared the worst of the little brunette mutant and the anxiety would have shpwn on his face if not for the organic steel covering that prevented even blinking. But of course Ororo knew what was troubling him, she always knew. With a sideways glance at Emma he had thought back at her, 'No. It is alright. I think Storm knows.' With that he follow the weather-witch as she lead him away from the other two, obviously having something to say that was for his ears alone.

He had already been suspecting the worst when Ororo admitted that she had "had another mental breakdown." Even though it wasn't the worst-case scenario the mere thought of Kitty in tears on the battlefield was bad enough, seeing Emma in tears on the battlefield had been bad enough. He steeled himself for the rest of the information, determined not to judge the situation fully until he had all the facts. When Ororo had finished filling him in the best he could do was nod and turn his back on her, starting for the ladder which would take him off the roof.

When he reached the ground the Russian mutant set about his task. Whilst he, like Ororo herself, was disappointed in her he was even more so he was disappointed in himself. He shouldn't have proposed to stay with Emma, not whilst Kitty had been in that state. He shouldn't have allowed her to go on the mission, he shouldn't have let her leave the jet. She hadn't been in any condition to go with them, and he should have realised that. If anyone was to blame for what had happened to Katherine it was him.

To Peter it made perfect sense that Kitty had gotten angry at Gabriel, while she was the youngest X-Man she had never liked being treated like one, even in the Danger Room she had disliked her comrades coming to her rescue. She wanted to be treated equally, like the perfectly capable X-Man she was, not like someone who needed to be protected. Kitty liked to do things for herself, she didn't others even offering assitance or advice, not even when it came to homework. Like most teens her age she thought she knew everything and could do everything, and that if she didn't or couldn't than she classed herself as pathetic, stupid and weak.

But combining her inability to look after herself with her recent emotional distress had resulted in one big explosion. It certainly wasn't her fault that she was emotionally unstable though, she had every right to be after the horrible week she had gone through. She had been going, going, going all week and there had been no time to rest, no time to deal with the build up of unresolved issues. Each problem had been another stick of dynamite added onto the Kitty time-bomb, and being saved by Gabriel - whether it had been necessary or not - had lit the exceptionally short fuse, resulting in the bomb going off in Ororo's undeserving face at the worst possible moment.

Peter thought about all this as he searched for the missing girl, but what he refused to let himself think about was why exactly she had needed saving. It didn't matter at the moment anyway, all that mattered was finding Kitty, calming her down and getting her back to the jet so they could finally go home. They would jump the "why" hurdle when they came to it, which, if Peter got his way, would be sooner rather than later.

User ImageStill boiling with anger at what Lance had done Katherine didn't notice Piotr appraoching until he was almost on top of her. There had once been a time when she had had a massive crush on the Russian mutant but when he hadn't shown any interest in her that feeling had faded away, replaced by mutual friendship. They had been paired up in the Danger Room a few times and there had been jokes made about the colossal height difference but other than that the two hadn't had much to do with each other. Even so, Kitty usually wouldn't heristate to give the muscular mutant a friendly smile if they happened to pass each other in the halls, but at the time, considering what had just played out with Lance and his buddies, she wasn't in the mood to smile.

User Image"I'm fine, Peter," she lied, using the English version of his name that everyone seemed to refer to him by because they had trouble pronouncing his proper name. Katherine usually wasn't one for lying, but seeing as telling the truth - that she was far from alright - would subsequently lead to further questions asking why exactly that was, and she was definately not up for answering those. "I'm just tired," she elaborated, which was actually true. 'And my hands have cuts all over them and my elbow is grazed. All because Pietro thought he could come over here, try and spy on us and get away with it. Plus, my boyfriend - who just happens to be one of our emenies - just dissed me in front of his friends and now I wish he hadn't gotten his memory back.' She finished in her head, after all, just because she wasn't being truthful aloud didn't mean she couldn't be honest about her feeling to herself.

Melanie had smiled as Eric patted her on the head and told her that she had done well, it always pleased her hearing that. The eight-year-old watched as he walked away from her then, once he was out of sight, moved back into the living room, plonking herself back down on the couch. Katherine's disappearance had been quite unusual, but it wasn't something that the blonde girl was going to dwell on, after all, unusual occurances were the norm where here in Xavier's. She tapped her hands on her lap, indicating that Dahlia could jump up. The little cat did, stepping round and round in circles before settling herself down on Melanie's warm lap. Next the mutant who could talk to animals as well as plants patted the sofa beside her as an invitation for the Yorkshire terrier to join them. Once her pets were seated and comfortable around her Melly turned her attention ono the television, where SpongBob and Patrick were going about their usual antics.

Whilst Katherine was one of those girls who found protective guys a turn on she wasn't one for playing the damsel in distress. She didn't like having to be saved and she certainly didn't like being thought of as weak, helpless or vulnerable. She was no Daphney from Scoobie Doo, she did not need people to take care of her and she did not - in her opinion - need rescuing. She was an X-Man, for crying out loud! She was a mutant with one of the most protective powers the X-gene had provided for its chosen few; she shouldn't need some guy with a stupid green fringe tackling her opposition for her!

User ImageA tiny smile played at the edges of Kitty's lips as she watched Piotr walk away, hugging his picture to his chest as she watched him go. She had been so relieved when he hadn't called her lie and insisted that she tell him the truth like any one of the others would have. The thing about Peter was that he knew when someone wasn't in the mood to talk, and acted accordingly. He hadn't forced his presence of her like Bobby or Logan would have, and he hadn't demanded that she tell him the real reason she wasn't feeling her best like Scott would have. He had simply wished her a good night's sleep, gifted her one of his famous sketches, and had been on his way. Piotr was truley one of the nicest, most considerate, good-hearted men she had ever met, he had made her smile when she felt like crying. If only Lance was more like him.

User ImageKatherine had stopped walking to watch Colossus go, and with a final glance down at the remarkable drawing he had given her she started walking again she finished the hike up the Mansion's driveway. She climbed up the front steps and phased through the wooden double-doors just as Avalanche's quake shook the grounds. She ignored it and kept walking, the burning anger she had felt towards Lance slowly creeping back. Whilst she had been in the giant Russian's company that anger had been slowly fading away, but now that he was gone it was voming back again. It was as if he had been an ice pack on a burn; soothing the pain while he was in place, but once removed the hurt was free to return. With a sigh Shadowcat made for the kitchen, hoping to find it empty so she could tend to her wounds, using the first aid kit that she knew was on top of the fridge, alone.

User ImageUnfortunately when she reached the kitchen it was already in use, by none other than Bobby and Rogue. Bobby had an arm around his un-touchable girlfriend's shoulder and the two were seated around the kitchen table, feasting on ice cream that was sure to ruin their dinner. Although Katherine felt no ill feelings toward either of them, despite what people might think about her and Rogue, just one glance at them was enough to make her feel sick. There they were, opening expressing their affection towards one another while she was still as mad as hell at her own boyfriend. "Hey," she mumbled, making a bee-line for the refridgerator so she could get out of there ASAP, not just because she was a strong believer in the "three's a crowd" cliche, but also because the jealousy she was suddenly feeling was only serving to fuel her anger towards Lance, making for one very ticked off ghost-girl.

User ImageKitty had stalked into the kitchen just in time to hear Bobby's suggest that he and Rogue should "go somewhere", fortunately missing the Iceman's harsh comments about her boyfriend, but what she did hear stung just the same. The undeniable truth of the matter was that Kitty was insanely jealous of Bobby and Rogue. Not only was no one trying to convince them that they shouldn't be together, but they could also be with one another whenever they liked. Lance and herself were never going to be sitting around that table eating ice cream, he had made that clear when he had told her not to "get her hopes up." Whats more, the air of them had been going out for years and Katherine had never seen them really, truely angry at eachother, Avalanche and herself hadn't even been officially dating for more than a day and she was already pissed at him. There was nothing forbidden about Rogue and the Iceman's relationship - well, apart from the no touching flesh-to-flesh rule - however her and Lance's relationship couldn't be more "star-crossed", as Shakespeare would have put it.

User ImageShe pretended not to notice how close the two were sitting or how completely wrapped up in eachother they were as she strode into the black and white tiled room. She went straight for the fridge, determined to clean herself up and get out of there as soon as possible. Just when she thought she was they hadn't noticed her Marie spoke up, and Kitty had to stop, turn around and give the mutant her full attention. "No thanks, Rogue," she answered quickly, "I just, like, gotta grab something. Then I'll be out of your hair," she finished with a wink, indicating that she knew that the two of them wanted to be left alone. It had come as a bit of a surprise to the brunette that Rogue, not Bobby, had been the one to ask if she needed anything, after all she was on much better terms with the male and had just spoken to him that morning. It wasn't that her and the southern girl were enemies, that didn't mean they were exactly friends though, they just had differing opinions and perspectives. Plus Kitty knew that Rogue got annoyed by how close her and Bobby could be sometimes.

User ImageStanding on her tippy toes Shadowcat swiped the first aid kit off the top of the refridgerator with her free hand, carrying it over to the counter beside the sink. She set it down then put Piotr's drawing a little ways away so it wouldn't get accidently ruined. The ghost-girl then turned her back on the eighteen-year-olds and set to work on her cuts. There were actually two reasons why she had had to turn away from the older mutants; firstly, so that she wouldn't have to look at their gooey eyes any longer, and secondly, so that they wouldn't see the pained expression on her face when she started dabbing at the scratched on her palms and elbows with iodine.

"Never use a door when you can make one on your own"
Though Kitty didn't want to believe it the undeniable truth of that matter was that that hadn't been the first time she had been saved that week. The first time was when Julianet had been using her as her puppet, preventing her from phasing as John held the cure to her throat, the X-men had come to her rescue then. Next, when the mansion had been on fire she had needed Hanzo's assistance to get the comatose Scott Summers out of the burning building. She had then accepted the help of the ambulance workers. Cheslae - her best-friend - had aided her when she had needed to escape from the other X-Men, and from Peter.John Allerdyce had been the next mutant to lend her a hand, allowing her to join them at the Brotherhood base. Then had come Logan; coming to her rescue when she had been at her worst, persuading her to join the rest at the new mansion. She had screamed when Gabriel had tried to help her after that, resulting in her lying unconscious on the kitchen floor. Unbeknownst to her Logn had once again come to her aid, along with Emma and her beloved Piotr when they had found her in the kitchen. Next on the long list was Jean, who had barged into the bathroom to save her from herself when she had been in the middle of her second mental breakdown and had been inflicting harm on herself with the aid of steel wool and bleach. And the list went on to include Piotr - once again - and many others.

What's'a matter, never seen a teen-age all-American ghost before?
You're not scared of ghosts now, are you?

User ImageJust when Katherine Anne Pryde had thought she was in the clear, just when she thought her comrades hadn't seen her grab the medical kit, just when she had thought they were going to let her be, she had felt a presence behind her, peering over her shoulder and watching her. Damn Bobby and his consideration, damn him and his wonderings as to why she had snatched the first aid kit off the top of the refridgerator, damn him for being such a good friend. Couldn't he have merely asked if she was alright as Rogue had? Or, better yet, couldn't he have jusy taken her word for it when she said she was? 'Of course not,' she sighed inwardly, 'Bobby loves me like a sister, he's not just going to sit silently and watch as I stick bandaids on myself without wondering why.' Okay, so the "loves me like a sister" thing may have been a bit much, but Kitty knew that the Iceman cared about her, heck, she cared about him too. She cared about all her fellow X-Men, and she knw that in turn they cared about her. They were like one big dysfunctional family that way.

User ImageUnfortunately knowing that she was loved wasn't making her feel any better about what had occured outside, in fact it was making her feel worse, because Lance wasn't included in their family; he never had been - not even when he had joined then - and he never would be. But before she could contemplate that any longer a cold hand was sitting on her shoulder and another was gently lifting her hand. The brunette had been determined to ignore Bobby and his persistance to see if she was okay, but that was turning out to be impossible now that he was actually touching her, speaking to her. Without thinking Kitty snatched her hand out of his as if his touch had burned her, holding it to her chest. "Nothing!" she said firmly, still standing with her back to him, not meeting his eyes.

User ImageNot a moment later Katherine realized that his inquiry hadn't really been what it sounded like. While he had asked "what happened?" to the sixteen-year-old it sounded alot like a big brother wanting to know what his baby sister's violent, and often out of control boyfriend had done to her. Big difference. And, even though Lance had been the one to put in in the condition, even though she was still really mad at him for how he had behaved when the elder Brotherhood mutants had arrived she didn't want to admit that he had caused her any physical hurt. It occured to her then that as far as the Iceman knew she had been out with Lance all day, he hadn't witnessed then coming home and he hadn't seen what had just happened with Pietro. So her strong "nothing" would sound to him like she was defending Lance...which she was, but she didn't want Bobby to think that, even if Avalanche had been the one to hurt her, as unintentional as it had been. "I just...fell." she ammended with the first non-Lance induced accident that came to mind.

User ImageJust then the whole building shook and the air was pierced with a frustrated yell. Instictively Katherine's hands shot out so she could use the steady bench to steady herself. Unfortunately that sent pain shooting up both arms, originating from the fresh cuts on the palms of her hands where they had come into contact with the counther top. The ghost-girl had to bite her lip to stop herself from crying out, or cursing. Of course there was no doubt in the adolescent's mind as to where those quakes had come from, or who's throat had produced that howl. She kept her mouth firmly shut though and her mind off those thoughts, instead focusing on righting herself and continuing to fix her wounds as if nothing had happened.

What's'a matter, never seen a teen-age all-American ghost before?
You're not scared of ghosts now, are you?

User ImageUp until Bobby had repeated what she had named the cause of her injuries Kitty hadn't realised how positively stupid the excuse was. Yes, she had always been clumsy and prone to walking into anything and everything, but when her powers had manifested all that had changed. Sure, she still occassionally tripped downstairs - especially when she was in her five inch heels - and was liable to random acts of clutziness, but she hadn't broken a bone or scraped her knee since she was thirteen. Getting the power she had had been like a gift from God. That said, it was now clear to her why her lie was so unbelieveable. She physically couldn't fall and hurt herself...well, she could, but that would be a pretty stupid thing to let happen. And though it had been partly true, she had fallen, she had only managed to do so because she had been pushed - well, tackled - whilst she had been out of breath.

User ImageKitty had been quite content to go on tending to her wounds as if Lance hadn't just caused a tremor, as if she hadn't had to grab the bench to stop herself from falling over, but when Bobby announced that he was going to murder her boyfriend she had to act. While she knew that Bobby's threat to kill Avanlanche wasn't serious, or so she hoped, she could simply not allow him to go anywhere near the rock-tumbler, dspite what had occured only a couple of minutes ago. She reeled on him, ready to grab his arm and proceed to hold him down if that what it took to stop him. Fortunately - or unfortunately, depending on whose perspective - Rogue had beaten her to it, laying a gloved hand on her boyfriend's shoulder and trying to calmly persuade him not to go after Lance.

User ImageShadowcat looked on, her heart hammering wildly in her chest and her fingers literally crossed in a silent prayer that Bobby would comply with his untouchable girlfriend's wishes. Despite still being as mad as hell at Lance, so mad in fact that she wanted to hit something - she couldn't have her best friend and her boyfriend going head-to-head. Especialy since the brunette knew who was out there with Avalanche, and who would inevitably team up with the Iceman. She couln't have the X-Men and Brotherhood at war with one another, particularily since her and Lance had only been officially dating for less that a day. And even though she did want Lance to be punished for how he had made her feel when he had chosen his team mates over her she was certain she could do that herself. She didn't need the X-Men fighting her battles for her.

User ImageThe Jewish mutant's brown eyes had been glued on the Iceman, that was until she felt a pair of eyes on herself. Kitty shrunk under Rogue's hard glare, realising that the gloved mutant was blaming her for whatever Lance was doing outside. That was when it struck Katherine that she really had no idea what her boyfriend was still doing outside their gates, or why. Obviously he was angry or upset, as those were the emotions that generally made him lose control. The brunette did want to believe that she was at least partly responsible for that. Maybe Lance was angry at himself, for upsetting her, or maybe he was mad at his Brotherhood because their arrival had resulted in him yelling at her. It was even possible that he had found out about how Pietro had sexually assulted her - that is, if you could call touching her hair sexual assult. Well whatever the reaon Kitty liked to think it had something to do with her, she just hoped he wasn't the one getting in trouble.

After fifteen minutes of fruitless searching for his beloved Piotr Rasputin was still empty handed. He had asked every single MRD and SHIELD person he had come across, but no one had seen the ghost-girl. It seemed to him that Kitty had been doing alot of running in this past week and he felt that he should know where she would go, where she would hide; but the truth was, he didn't. And he felt awful for it. But he couldn't just keep walking around looking for her, after all she could be anywhere by now, there was no guarentee that she was still hanging around the White House. He was just about ready to give up and head back to the jet to ask Emma if she could locate her for him.

Colossus lifted his hands to his dark hair - having reverted back to his flesh-and-blood form a few minutes after starting his quest - and dragged his fingers along his scalp. If he hadn't suggested that he pair up with Emma to save Storm the trouble they wouldn't have been in this mess, he would have been with Kitty and everything would have been fine. But it wasn't, because he had. And now Piotr couldn't help but blame himself for whatever his young girlfriend was going through.

Ever since the first incident with John and the cure she hadn't been quite right, hadn't been all there, and with every episode that had happened since she had gotten just a little bit worse. And because they had been going from mission to mission without a chance to stop and take a breather no one had been able to sit down with Katherine and give her a good heart-to-heart. Even when they had finally been alone in her bedroom, before the havoc that the comet had brought with it, he hadn't been able to bring it up, instead they had just layed there in silence. Now the Russian mutant was regretting not speaking up.

No matter how badly Peter wished otherwise it was time to give up, to return to the jet and seek help. After all, he couldn't just keep wandering around the White House grounds hoping that she would turn up. Because that wasn't going to happen, if Kitty didn't want to be found she wouldn't be, and that was the undeniable truth. His chances of finding Kitty were equal to his chances of being stuck by lightening in a forest full of big oak trees, and the odds of finding her in this mayhem were even worse. But Peter must have been standing in the forest in his metal form, because just as he was turning around to return to the jet he saw movement out of the corner of his eye.

He froze, waiting for the sounds of rustling leaves to come again. And it did. He turned, very, very slowly and started towards the half burnt tree. It could have just as easily been a squirrel or chipmunk, but what the large mutant saw proposed otherwise: unless the tree critter was clad in black leather and had fur the colour of melted chocolate it was not an animal up there. Lest you counted mutants or Kittys as animals.

"I should have known that my Kitty would have found herself a nice tree to climb,"

Katherine Anne Pryde had calmed down considerably since she had climbed up the half-burnt tree, not too far off from the patch of lawn where the X-jet was parked. She was now a whole lot more miserable than angry, having come to the conclusion that she had failed to do anything for herself in the past few days. She had made herself comfortable among the protective branches of a tree that had been the unfortunate victim of one of Pyro's rampages, hunkering down to wait until someone came to find her. And finally, after just under half-hour of waiting, someone had.

Despite everything she smiled when she heard Piotr's voice - her knight in shining armour had come to her rescure. Again. And this time she wasn't going to go ballistic, she knew she needed saving. In fact she was determined that she wasn't going to go off at anyone for helping her ever again, after all, they were only doing it because they loved her. She didn't respond to his comment, instead just positioned herself so that she could get a better look at him.

Piotr's heart jumped into his throat when he saw Kitty's face and the condition it was in and he immediately felt himself wishing that he had chosen to go after John instead. The Australian mutant had hurt his girl - more than once in fact - and he deserved to pay. But the Russian forced himself to stay put; Kitty needed him here and now, not later when he had finished dealing with Pyro.

"Are you going to come down, Katya, or do I have to come up there and retrieve you?"

Kitty silently slipped out of the tree and let herself fall into her boyfriend's open and waiting arms. She twisted in his graso till she could put her arms around her neck and bury her head in his collarbone, ignoring the painful protests coming from her bloodied nose and grazed cheep. Colossus put one big hand on her back and the other under her bum, for no other reason than to support all her weight as she clung to him. And with that he turned and carried her off in the direction of the jet.
