Friends are siblings that God forgot to give us.
This time I wonder what it feels like
To find the one in this life, the one we all dream of
But dreams just aren't enough
So I'll be waiting for the real thing
I'll know it by the feeling
The moment when we're meeting will play out like a scene
Straight off the silver screen
So I'll be holding my own breath right up 'til the end
Until that moment when I find the one that I'll spend forever with.
Melanie Bates, or Melly as she was called by her friends, sung along to her favourite song by her favourite band as it blasted from the iPod docking station that her purple iPod was hooked up to. She have just finished painting her fingernails a sparkly baby blue and have moved onto her toe nails. She bent over her long, thin, freshly shaven legs that were stretched out in front of her to reach her feet which were resting on the white cushioned chair across from her where she sat on her newly made double bed. She had gotten out of the shower in the bathroon down the hall from her bedroom twenty minutes ago and instead of getting dressed she had put on her fluffy, white robe and tied it tight around her middle. Her still wet hair smelt strongly of her favourite shampoo - strawberry and vanilla- and hung down her back in dark, wet strands, dampening the back of her robe. She had plans today to meet up with her best friend Gabby at the park a few blocks away.
As she finished with her toe nails she put the lid back on the bottle of nail polish and swept her legs over to one side of the chair before standing up. She waddled over to her wooden dresser, careful not to let her newly painted toe nails touch the plush white carpet underfoot. She replaced the nail polish in it's rightful box on top of the dresser and smiled at the photo of her, Gabby, and her toy poodle Rose that had been taken about a year ago at the same park she was going to today. She swayed her hips to the music as she went through her drawers, throwing what she planned to wear over her shoulder at the bed. When she had picked out an outfit she waddled back over to the bed and quickly stripped off her robe, letting it fall to the floor, before donning the lime green tank top and cut-off jeans that she had chosen to wear. The tank top showed off the narrowness of her waist and the slight swell of her breasts while the shorts, that came to mid-thigh, exposed her long, thin legs. She pulled on her socks then her converse sneakers, making sure that the tattoo above her ankle bone could be seen. After that she retreated to the bathroom to blow dry and fix her hair.
When she was finally ready to be seen by the world she trooped back into her room and grabbed her empty, black, studded, leather handbag out of the bottom her wardrobe and dropped her house keys, her moblie phone and her purse into it. Then she stepped aross the room and unpluged her iPod from the docking station, attaching the earbuds to it then sticking them in her ears. When she was ready to go she left her room and walked down the hall to her brothers to let him know that she was going out. With that done she bounced down the stairs, her brown hair, which had been tied back into a pony tail, lapped at the back of her neck as she did so. She danced over to the front door and grabbed Rose's leash off it's hook before calling her baby. "Rose," she called, tapping on her thighs with her hands. A little, white, fluffy, toy poodle came bounding around the corner, running right up to Melanie. Mel smiled at her baby and bent down to clip the leash onto it's light purple collar. She straightened up after that and turned around, letting herself and her dog out of the house and shutting the door behind them both.
