Why cheat yourself out of the love you could have had...

Chase had just finished an other long day at the office, dealing with awkward clients, awkward staff to say he was tired was putting it lightly. He rested his elbows on his desk hiding his face in his hands for a few minutes closing his eyes wishing he didn't have to go this "party" tonight. These things were always about charming people and making contacts it was nothing like a party or a place where you could be yourself. Chase picked up the telephone and pressed 1 to get through to his receptionist "Can you pick me up a suit for tonight, and bring me in a coffee when you get back" He said knowing he really needed a coffee or he wouldn't make it until tonight.

Chase started to go through the paperwork on his desk singing the cheque's he needed to and putting the other stuff into the mailing out boxes. He was so tired of doing this all day everyday, he really needed to get a life besides work even his mother kept saying that to him when she rang him up, he was a little tired of hearing it. A knock came at the door and it made him jump a little cause it broke his thoughts. "Come in Lisa." he said and his receptionist walked in hanging his suit on the back of the door and putting his coffee on the desk. "Thanks Lisa." He said smiling slightly at her knowing she got exactly what he wanted, she was great at her job.

Pushing the chair back from the desk he got up running his fingers through his hair, thinking he probably looked like s**t. He didn't sleep much these days, working all hours he could. Chase walked over to the suit hanging on the back of the door taking it down and looking it over thinking it was a good choice. Walking back over to the desk he put the suit down on it started to get changed into it, when he was done he sat back down at his desk drinking his coffee. Once he finished his coffee he stood up throwing the remainder away, hanging his other suit on the back of his door. "Take the other suit to dry cleaning before you leave okay" He said to Lisa as he walked past her, giving a little smile.

Chase walked out to the car park looking around for his car sighing, why did he always forget where he had parked it? He walked around hoping that once he was close enough the alarm would go off. "beep beep" he walked over to his car admiring it, he at least liked and enjoyed the things his money could buy. His car was definitely something that showed people how well he was doing for himself not that it really mattered to him what people other than his family thought of him.

He got into his car and started driving towards the big hotel in town where this function was being held tonight, he really wasn't in the mood but he had to be here. It wasn't like he could actually sleep if he went home anyway so he might as well try.

Jacob Múller.

Other people may be there to help us, teach us, guide us along our path, but the lesson to be learned is always ours.

He stared out of the window nearly the whole time as the bus drove further into town, away from his home. The feeling of dread filled him more the further away he got from his community, the world outside was dangerous after all. Occasionally he would glance around the other people on the bus sneakily, it was hard to get a good look at any of them because they were all watching him. The fact they were watching him didn't help him feel any more comfortable on the outside. He always knew people would know he was different but maybe in the city they wouldn't work out exactly what it was that made him different.

At the bus stopped at the stop he usually would have got out at to see his old boss and his wife. The dear old lady who had taught him everything he now knew about music, they had grown close. Jacob knew the old lady had grown very fond of him, and he had grown very fond of her in return. She had always encouraged his talent even though she knew the situation he was in. A girl got off at the stop, the one he had slightly glanced at earlier. He remembered thinking that she was a bit like him, shy. He could tell by the way she clutched that case she was holding, he though it looked like a violin but he wasn't sure.

As the bus pulled away from the stop he watched the girl walking for a while before she disappeared out of sight, he noticed that she was tall. She was about the same height as he was. Looking around the nearly empty bus he wondered how many people were getting out at the next stop. Rubbing his hands over the legs of his jeans he sighed as the bus stopped, standing up then walking over towards the door. As he stepped of the bus he gave the bus driver a little nod as if to say thank you.

Once off the bus in the sun again he knew he needed to get some supplies for the train journey to the city, but he was genuinely nervous about going into stores. He had only been into this store a few times, usually when Mr Jones sent him to get something for the work shop or if Mrs Jones needed some milk for the house when he had been over there to play piano. She had told him he could come to play whenever he wanted to, he was going to go over there and let her know he was leaving today, hopefully he could play on her piano once more before he left. As he walked into the store nobody really noticed him, the store was quiet because it was early. Walking around the isles he picked up a few bottles of water, but not much else he didn't really know what other things you could buy to eat, they didn't really buy food at all back home. Once at the counter he paid for his stuff silently just handing over the money.

He placed the bottles of water into his bag then put it back over his shoulders walking over to the Mr & Mrs Jones house. He only needed to see Mrs Jones, cause Mr Jones would already be at work by now. Jacob had already said goodbye to him the other day when he finished work with him, he had wished the boy the best saying he would miss him around the place. He walked for a good 5 to ten minutes before arriving at the house. Knocking on the door he waited for someone to answer, before going into the house. Mrs Jones told him to never knock and just go inside but he always felt wrong doing that so he knocked first. "Mrs Jones" he said standing in the hallway wondering which room she was in.

As she came out of the studio many thoughts went through Jacobs head all of them being relayed to Seth which annoyed him a little. "Graceful" was his first one as he watched her walk along the path, it was easy for him to keep up as she walked along, he sometimes even walked too fast. He looked closer at her as she walked scanning her closely with his excellent sight, he could smell her as well. "Interesting" was his second thought. He wasn't quite sure what she smelled like, he had never smelt anything like it before. What he did know was that it wasn't human, but he had never before smelt a vampire like that. The smell of the bloody suckers made him feel sick, it was disgusting. But her smell wasn't like that, it was different.

He was a little on edge as he continued to watch her walk up to the house, he could sense she knew something wasn't right. It was almost like she knew she was being watched, and had been watched before. This peeked his interests even more, surely if she was just human nobody would be following her in some woods? He walked through the woods effortlessly barely even cracking a branch or moving a bush. When he was in his wolf form he was at one with nature especially these woods.

She finally made it to the house , Jacob sat still then watching her as he could see her making some decision in her head. She was putting her bag down but she wasn't going to go into the house by the looks of it. He knew Seth could hear all his thoughts, if he thought that Jake was in danger he would coming run, no doubt the others would soon come if they heard Jake or Seth call. "She coming into the woods" was Jacobs panicked thought as he could see the girl running from the door into the foliage. "Run Jacob it's not safe by yourself" came Seth's thoughts back to him.

For some strange reason he did feel panicked that she was coming into the woods, but he didn't really want to run. He wanted her to see him, be scared of him maybe even. The people who walked these woods had maybe seen him once or twice before. The reports were always about the biggest scariest wolves. But nobody believed wolves of those kind of sizes could even exist. "I'm fine Seth" Jacobs thought slightly annoyed at a kid trying to tell him what to do. But the others had always seen him as the fearless sometimes almost reckless one.

Quickly he decided he would let her see him, if he could run past her quickly he would know for sure if she was human or a blood sucker. Getting low to the floor he watched her looking around the woods as she got closer to him, his eyes the only light down beside the branches. As she turned to look the opposite way to where he was, disturbed by a sound in the distance Jacob decided he would make his move. Quickly getting his to his feet he ran as fast as he could, his big strong wolf body powering him forward as he shot in front of her into the woods, almost knocking her over as he went past.

"keep running"
was more to himself than anyone else. "What's wrong, what's happening?" that was Seth again. He loved Seth but wow could the eager kid get annoying sometimes. As he kept running more thoughts went through his head "Not a vampire, Not human" this seemed to confuse Seth as he kept quiet while Jacob ran the rest of the way back to La Push. He had to go into the house first to get some clothes to put on. He quickly shifted in front of the house back into human form, quickly running in to get changed then head back out up to Emily's to report to the rest of them on what he had seen.

Running past Seth who was still wolf outside of their place, Jacob burst into Sam and Emily's. Instantly all of the others eyes were on him, it didn't take Seth long to burst in after him, quickly sitting down to listen to what he had to say, although he knew more than the others already. "She's not human but she's not one of them" his words coming out quickly and breathlessly "I'm not sure what she is but we have to be careful, she's not something we've seen before" He sighed sitting down at the table. "We can't be sure she's not a threat to us."

He wasn't scared as they took him away in fact he felt strangely at peace. As they took him into that cold room, yes all he could feel was the cold on his skin. It made the hairs on his bare arms stand up, the people around him all masked, unfamiliar. That's why he gave into the darkness so easily when it came. He wouldn't have to be in that cold empty place anymore then he could be free, he really did think it was the end. The only reason he didn't fight it was because he knew she was safe. Katniss was going to go back to her family, be happy with Gale maybe that's all that mattered to him. He would die a thousand times over if it meant she could be safe that was his last thought as everything went dark...

Once he was in the dark everything came back to him, his whole life everything he had experienced. Including the games he wishes he could skip that part, but reliving all the good was worth it. He remembered the day he burnt the bread on purpose for Katniss, how he used to watch her everyday at school the day after he had done it. But every time she had turned to look at him he would look away, embarrassed thinking that she didn't even know who he was. Peeta also saw how the happiest day of his life became the day he was chosen to be a tribute, how could that ever have happened. Of course he already knew the answer it happened because of Katniss. She was so brave volunteering as tribute instead of her sister, if he could love her any more it happened then. After feeling that the feeling of dread came, the reality of what this meant was that he would die. He had decided the moment she had volunteered that he would do everything in his power to save her, including die.

After hours, days, maybe even weeks he couldn't be sure, whatever had happened to him made him very disorientated. He woke up to find himself chained to the bed with some kind of drip with medicine in his arm. "Ugh." words escaped his dry lips, he was thirsty. Then he fell a sleep again only to wake later finding that he had been released from the bed. He tried to get up but to his horror the bottom of his leg was missing, where Katniss had put the tourniquet. Sighing he just sat on the bed as he could hear people moving around outside. Then an avox boy walks in silently placing this metal robotic looking contraption onto his leg then giving him a cane which he assumes he'll need to walk. Peeta doesn't have any idea where he's going though or where Katniss is now. As the avox boy leaves the room it all goes quiet again "Katniss?" He whispers into the room.

It was that time again, the time when the tributes from district 11 were going to be chosen for the games. This was only the second time since he had won that he would have to mentor. It filled him with dread, the last time he had mentored he had tried his best with the one girl and one boy from his district but he had little to work with. They had both been so skinny which in turn had made them completely weak. Even the time they had before the games didn't help them get much stronger. So by the time the games had begun they were basically sitting ducks, it had angered him so much to see that. Maybe he didn't know them personally before the games but he considered them his people, so yes he cared for them he didn't want to see them come to the end they did. Just the thought of the way they both died sent a shiver down his spine. They way they had suffered before the games as well as during was unjust. In one way the peace they had finally had from death was somewhat of a comfort to Christopher. After the games had ended he went to the houses of the two tributes to speak with their families even though the peacekeepers didn't like it.

The day he was chosen for the games himself was a dark grey day just like this, no clouds in the usually beautiful sky of district 11. It was funny how they were one of the poorest districts yet they were so surrounded by beauty. He had always thought he wouldn't choose to live anywhere else even if he could, after seeing the capitol he knew he would never live there. After his stint in the games he hated the place more than anything. He himself had no mentor when he won the games, it was a miracle he even survived. He had always been tall he was over 6 foot which made people a little intimated, but he wasn't particularly big. If anything being that tall in district 11 made things much harder for you. He needed a lot of food but they never had any when he was growing up, that's why he was so skinny when the games started. One of the things that was always in his favour was that he had worked from sunrise to sunset, determination was something he didn't lack. All through the games his tactic was to stay hidden so he could conserve the little energy he had, then he would stealthily approach his opponents to take them out. This had worked for him almost until the very end, but the sponsors were against him, he had been giving maybe only one thing in the beginning from his own district, that was the knife he carried all through the games. One of the career tributes from district 4 was left in the end, he was as big as Christopher was but much stronger, he had almost killed him when he had heard a noise behind him. The next thing Chris could remember because he was dazed was the career tributes blood all over his face. An animal had come and killed the career tribute from behind, luck really was on his side that day, he hoped luck would be on the tributes side this time as well.

Standing in the mirror of his Victor Villages house where he lived by himself all he could see was the scar on his stomach. The only reminder he had of the games apart from the memories that haunted him still, even in his sleep. The games didn't take his family from him, this district had done that. His father killed by the peacemakers because he had tried to sneak food out to feed him, he had been an only child. The pride and joy of his mother as well as his father, that's why he had tried to sneak the food out that day. Well that was the story his mother had told him many times when he was a child, it was one of the few memories he still had of her, because he had none of his father. His father had died when he was just four years old, too young to even remember his face, or the way his voice sounded. Being raised by his grandmother wasn't so bad at least she had also loved him, he had known love that was at least something he could always carry with him. But his beloved grandmother had also died during his time in the games, he guessed she couldn't handle the stress, plus the lack of food because he wasn't there. Guilt was something he felt about a lot of things, his fathers death, his grandmothers maybe even his mothers. But he knew he couldn't keep punishing himself like that, he just didn't know how to stop, what to do to make all the pain go away.

Sighing he walked away from the mirror stepping into the shower quickly, it was warm on his skin. It was one of the things he loved most about winning, the hot water showers. Of course the food was great as well, he had never felt hunger since the games although he sometimes chose not to eat intentionally so he could be reminded of the past. Strangely the hunger reminded him of being a child, which of course reminded him of the family he had once had. Being twenty years old he had already been through a lot, he had lost his family, won the hunger games but was still completely alone. Starting to dress for the games he ran his fingers through his dark hair sighing before starting to dress in the clothes the peacekeepers had given to him earlier. It was the same non de script smart clothing they always made him wear, a dark suit with a pale green shirt underneath to reflect his district. He hated having to do this, after all that he went through he thought he deserved to be free from suffering. But yet here he was still suffering the pain of these tributes would be as much his pain as it would be theirs. Finally he was dressed in his smart clothes, he felt completely out of sorts dressed like this. It was just an other way for them to control him, making him feel less like the person he really was. But he had no choice just like all the other people in his district or any others from other districts. Never would he speak the things he thought of course, peacekeepers from this district didn't take any s**t. They would have killed him even if he shared some of his milder views, despite being a hunger games winner.

Finally he was dressed then heading out of his house to be escorted to the edge of their district where they held the reaping. As he walked through the streets with peacekeepers at his side, he didn't wave at the people who came out to greet him, or smile. He wasn't going to pretend he was proud of what he did or who he was. Because quite frankly he wasn't proud at all, for murdering people, for helping the capitol murder more people, his people. Christopher wished he could be one of those people who didn't care, sadly he wasn't. They make it to the edge of the district finally, all the people in the streets looked sad, sombre dark eyes filled with worry for the people they loved. At least he didn't have to worry about that, selfishly he didn't have any brothers or sisters in the reaping. Finally getting onto the stage, he took his winner seat, waiting for the reaping to begin. As he was sitting down looking into the crowds of young people gathering from his district, he felt dread for them. Selfishly for himself he was hoping that these tributes were either going to be strong or smart or at least have some special kills or have none at all. Then it would be over quickly for him as well as them, they would have little suffering which he was sure the tributes chosen this year would have had enough of in their lives. It hurt him even more to know that they might be near his own age, he didn't want to like them, care for them even bond with them. It would be so much harder to see them die if that was to happen.

Christopher sat beside the escort in a complete daze hardly hearing anything of what was being said. It was just the usual spiel about the games as well as the capitol he had heard it all before when it was his turn. Also he had heard it the last time when he had to mentor the other tributes, both of them dead now. He wished he didn't blame himself so much for their deaths after all there really wasn't much more he could have done, he tried to mentor them the best way he could. Christopher himself was no expert fighter he just had a hunger to survive to live. Why he had that hunger was a mystery to him because in his eyes he didn't have that much to live for. The escort was the same woman who had escorted him during his games, as well as the previous tributes. The woman was completely tactless, she didn't even care about the tributes or the lives they lead. All she cared about was herself, her only aim was to get the capitol to notice her so she could get riches from them. She had spoken to him before the games as well as after but he didn't like her, he never would.

All of a sudden he was snapped out of the daze he was in when that horrible woman spoke the first name of the girl tribute drawn from the glass bowl. It was the name of a girl he once considered a friend, he would sometimes sneak out from work to meet with her. They would sit in the sun for hours talking but once he had been chosen for the games he had left that life behind knowing he would never see anyone he cared about again, that included her. If he wanted to survive he had to be willing to die, that was part of the games. The game makers wanted you to risk everything just to survive, mostly they would make you do that to lure you into their traps. Sometimes your hunger to live in the games would be your ultimate downfall, luckily for Christopher he was willing to die so no traps lured in him. But why did Holi's name have to come out of that bowl, it left him in such an awkward position. They weren't friends any more, Christopher hadn't seen her since before the games or spoken to her. But they still knew each other once, now he had to watch someone he used to care about die in the games. It seemed to him the only thing he was used to was people he cared about dying. He often wondered why he fought so hard to survive the games when he had nothing good to live for. He guessed it must have been because he thought his dear grandmother was safe at home waiting for him. But when he came home a winner his grandmother was gone, just like everyone else in his life who mattered.

The boy tributes name was pulled from the glass bowl, things were just getting worse. He let out a sigh at the boys tributes name, somebody else he had known. This was a boy a few years below him when he was actually able to go to school instead of working. Fiercely competitive as well as ruthless, in any games or sports they would play. He didn't even care if the boys he was playing with were older or stronger. Even though he was thin like all the people from this district he had a fighting, winning spirit which would see him do well in the games. Christopher thought that this boy would have no problem with killing anyone, this included Holi. After all the games was survival of the fittest, loyalties could get you killed as quick as having none. During his own time in the games he had kept to himself, he had enough battles to fight without having to fight anyone else's. Of course he had cared for the other tribute from his district more than the others, she had been younger than him but he had never had many maternal feelings towards anyone. That was the product of being an only child without any younger siblings or so he thought at least. But she had been killed early on in the games, which is a selfish way had pleased him because he knew that he wouldn't have to kill her. Because if in the end it came down to the two of them he would have killed her to survive he knew that. The games had turned him into the kind of man who would do anything to survive, brought out all the primal instincts humans who lived before them must have had.

Christopher glanced at the tributes as they were taken away to say goodbye to their families then get put on the train to be taken to the capitol. It had all begun for them, but he feared the end would come for them soon as well. He sighed as they were taken away, he remembered saying goodbye to his grandmother she had made him promise to survive no matter what happened. She had told him that his parents had loved him more than anything, that they had done everything just so he could survive. That lying down, giving up would be to disrespect their memory. That's why he thought with all he had, which honestly after all the years of food wasn't much. But his spirit was so much stronger than his body during the games, and spirit counted as much as anything else. After the tributes were taken away, the cameras went off, the people dispersed back into their homes. Then he was just left with the horrible escort and they mayor. The mayor turned to him "I hope you'll have more luck with those two." he said smiling "The boy looks like a better prospect compared to the two we had last time." the mayor said patting Christopher on the shoulder before making his way back to his own house, escorted by the peacemakers. He didn't like that the mayor was already favouring the boy, but that was usually the way the games went. After all in the history of the games more boys had won, even if they had been from career districts.

Christopher made his way with the escort to the train station in the car, he held the door open so she could get inside then got into the car beside her. She was always a stickler for manners, he had remembered that the first time he had met her. She had thought of him as some kind of savage raised by wild beasts completely void of manners or normal human behaviour the thought of it almost made him laugh out loud. "I hope we can get an other winner" she said as the drover towards the station now, the streets already completely deserted. He knew she had only said that to flatter him, and that the only reason she wanted that was to elevate her own position. "Yes that would be great." Christopher responded looking out of the window to signal that was the end of the conversation.

Finally they made it to the train station, there were only a few people there now the families to say goodbye to the tributes, a lot of peacekeepers to control anyone who would try to rebel or speak out against the capitol. He knew now that not all peacekeepers were as tough as the ones they had in district 11. He held the door open for the escort so she could get out of the car then they both boarded the train together and went their separate ways. Once in his room on the train he quickly got changed into something more casual so he could feel more like himself. He was nervous about meeting the tributes, especially seeing Holi again face to face. Dressing in a pair of jeans and a a plain black shirt he felt a little more comfortable. Walking into the dinning car he noticed everyone was already there waiting for him to arrive. "Sorry if I kept anyone waiting" he said trying to avoid looking at Holi. "Shall we eat first then talk about other matters during dinner?" he said nodding at the tributes pretty sure that they were starving.

Onyx guessed that Brynn was right about what she said, peacekeepers were everywhere. Even in a big district like hers nowhere was safe, no where was truly free. As time kept passing by Onyx was growing more and more aware of the fact that he felt trapped. He felt like a rabbit caught in the headlights, stunned not able to move anywhere freely. Onyx wasn't exactly sure why but lately he felt like he was being watched constantly, it reminded him of the feelings he had during the games. Every movement, every action being judged, analyzed by people he could not see or influence. But where was this unsettled feeling deep inside of him coming from?

"Oh I guess you're right." Onyx said smiling at her slightly, he couldn't remember the last time he had smiled truly. Probably when he had been home those few months, with his mother and ruby. He sighed as he watched Brynn walking over to the piano wondering why she liked this new music thing she had discovered so much. He guessed it was because it was a part of her families history and something she could get lost in. So she could forget everything that was going on around her, Onyx knew he would give anything to feel that way right now.

He nodded when she asked if he missed them, he missed them more than anything. When he was at home with them he felt complete. Ruby was his very own ray of sunshine with her blonde curls. She made him believe that there was good in the world because she was the perfect innocent example of it. He could never let anyone hurt her, he would do whatever it took to protect her, no limits. "It's not fair." Onyx said in reply, thinking that everything Brynn was saying was hitting him hard since he had experienced exactly the same feelings. When he had been back in district 1 enjoying his family and learning his skill. He almost forgot everything, being in the games, fighting, killing. He was just the Onyx he used to be again but now he was on this tour all he saw were eyes filled with hatred and judgement. He had tried for the longest time to ignore them, to not let them get to him. Since they didn't really know him at all, who he was, what motivated him. But lately their hatred was starting to seep into him, turning something inside of him he couldn't yet understand what.

The sound of Brynn's voice pulled him from his deep thoughts about the whole situation, she was going to say something to him but they were both distracted by the sound that came from the door. "What was that?" he said as Brynn made her way over to it opening the door. He wasn't sure what she saw but he guessed it must have been some nosy person from the capitol again. Since that was exactly what happened earlier when they had that awkward dancing moment together. "Night Brynn." he said before making his way back to his room finding it hard to fall a sleep since his mind was racising.

███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ██

The sound of birds, was something completely new to Onyx. At least the birds that he heard now, the sound of them was beautiful. It was like they were singing a song to each other, even the sound of the train which was now slowing down couldn't block them out. That was what had woken him so early, long before it was time to go. Quickly making his way over to the window he pulled back the curtain his eyes widening at the beautiful sight before him. "Wow" he murmured. All he could see as he looked out at the district was how big it was, he thought he had seen large districts since traveling past some on the tour. But this district was so large that as far as the eye could see it was filled with everything green. The trees in there looked so big it was almost like they were touching the sky. Onyx smiled to himself all of a sudden understanding why Brynn would be sad about leaving a place like that, it was certainly beautiful and he hadn't even had the chance to see it up close yet.

After a few hours the stylists came in dressing him, fixing his hair. The speech writer came in to tell him that he hoped there wouldn't be a repeat of what happened with the last speeches in district 12. Onyx was tired of being told what should happen, what should be done. Was he the president? No he wasn't so he couldn't possibly control everything and everyone. He felt like saying just that but as usual he swallowed his words down, burying them with the rest of the stuff he had to get rid of the last few months. After what seemed like ages everyone was finished with him for a while so they made him wait at the doors. He could hear many voices outside, it filled him with that sick feeling in his stomach. Onyx was so tired of going into these districts and being judged, looked at with hatred.

But before he contemplate anymore Brynn was beside him, looking up at him nervously as if she wasn't in a place that was her home. It was strange to Onyx that she seemed so nervous, since district 1 would be the one place he felt safe. When the doors opened lights started to flash, Onyx had to close his eyes because they were so bright that he blinded them. Once he opened them he could see a lot of different faces. Most of them to this surprise were much darker colored than his fair pale skin. Some were even almost as dark as the cave was at night, with only the moonlight shinning in. Before him was some woman, who seemed to be staring at him he didn't recognize her but he guessed that she must be an other person who despised him.
He waved at the people once they were announced putting on a fake smile as he did, all of this still felt so awkward to him. At the time he won he thought he would love every minute of the admiration. But deep underneath the admiration from the officials was the people's hatred.

Before anything else could happen Onyx was lead away from the crowds by a peacekeeper following behind Brynn and this woman who was now interviewing her or something. Onyx wasn't exactly sure since he couldn't hear what was being said over all the noise that surrounded them. All he caught from the conversation was that Brynn said the would start in the fields. The first thing that came to his mind was what would be in these fields, if those fields were where Brynn had to work before she won the games, were their any dangerous animals in these fields. The thought of dangerous animals being in the fields excited Onyx more than it should have, especially after his confrontation with those mutts during the games. Still he silently following behind Brynn and the others as they made their way to the edge of the fields. His eyes widened again at the size of them, he wondered how many people work in these fields everyday. He imagined it must be thousands, maybe you could get lost in this district after all he thought to himself.

The crying from the other room started again, keeping his eyes closed Guy tried to ignore it but the sound was so penetrating. It must be around 3am in the morning by now, Ella had been crying only 2 hours earlier but after he had ignored her for a about an hour she had fallen a sleep again. It wasn't that he didn't care about her because he did, he just had no room left in his hard to love anyone or anything. Plus all he could feel right now was pure exhaustion as well as a complete dull numbness that filled him completely. Sighing he grabbed the pillow from under his head placing it over his face to try drowning out the sound of her crying, or maybe to suffocate himself. The last few months without Kate had been a complete blur of exhaustion, half the time he didn't even know what he was doing. The only thing that even made him leave his bed was their daughters constant need for attention, which half of the time he chose to ignore anyway.

Sighing he threw the pillow across the room it landed against the dresser which was now completely empty. No family pictures, no pictures of kate, he had removed them all then put them at the bottom of the draw. He didn't have the heart or the strength to even open the draw or take any of the pictures out to look at them. It was hard enough just looking at Ella when he had to. Her bright blue eyes always looking into his, exactly the same eyes her mother had eyes he had once loved to look into. But now he hated the fact that Ella was so much like her mother, a constant reminder of all that he had lost. Getting out bed wearing a white t-shirt that he had been wearing for the last few weeks as well as a pair of black shorts. The moment he walked into Ella's room she stopped crying which made him feel so bad on the inside, no it made him feel sick. All his daughter wanted was him but he was completely lost to her, he was completely lost he didn't know if he would ever make his way back to being half the man he once was.

"Okay I'm here" Guy said reaching down into the crib he picked Ella up placing her onto his shoulder, instantly realising the reason she was crying was because she smelled, badly. Guy honestly couldn't remember the last time he gave her a bath, he tried not to think about how badly he was failing her because it just made everything worse. It made him think about Kate looking down at him, hating him for not looking after their daughter the way he should. Placing Ella onto the changing matt, he quickly changed her nappy before buttoning up her baby grow again. After that she seemed a little happier, she was looking up at him with her big blue eyes again. Guy wondered what she thought of him, she never smiled maybe she could sense the sadness in this house now. Picking her up again he made his way downstairs placing Ella into her high chair. Going over the cupboard where they kept her formula he opened it to realise it was completely empty. [********] he said angry getting into a panic about the situation.

Slipping down against the cupboard he placed his face in his hands sighing, what was he going to do now. He would have to go out to the store to get more formula but he couldn't face the outside world these days, it was a bit of a miracle they had survived this long. Once he eventually removed his hands from his face he looked over at Ella who was watching him from her high chair curiously. He shook his head leaving her in the high chair as he quickly went upstairs to change into some old pair of jeans and a sweatshirt. Then he had to remember that he left his wallet on the table in the hallway, he would also have to dress Ella before they could go out, or maybe he could just take her in her baby grow. Lifting Ella out of her high chair he grabbed his wallet off the table placing it in the pocket of his jeans as he made his way down the street.

He could feel people watching him as he made his way down to the store which was at the end of the road. The times he had been there before were always with Kate, they pretty much know the people who lived in the neighbourhood as well as the ones who worked in all their local shops. That's why he tried not to come out of the house, cause people would stare at him with sympathetic looks or words but none of them ever truly tried to help, he hadn't even checked the mail since Kate had died. Finally inside the store he walked around with Ella rocking her a little because she was starting to fuss. He couldn't find the formula anywhere but he didn't want to ask anyone even though they were already staring at him. Finally he found it after going down about 5 different isles, grabbing a can off the shelf he made his way to the till to pay but there was a line, as always. "Just my luck" he muttered under his breath. Deciding after about five minutes that he wasn't going to wait any longer he pushed past all the people waiting then placed a $20 on the counter before walking out of the shop.

Jo's first two classes seemed to fly by as he gathered up his stuff to make his way to study hall. He had been in a pretty good since arriving at school, he was in an even better one after his painting and drawing class but Maths had quickly brought him back down to earth with the greatest of thuds. Apart from English class the only other things Jo had ever been good at was art. It had started when he was much younger his obsession with it all, the first time his grandfather had got him some colors. The first time he had used them on a piece of paper he had been mesmerized by the way it had looked. How the page could be black and empty at first then colored so brightly, vividly in a flash. His parents could never understand that part of him back then, just the way the couldn't understand it now. Jo had truly given up hope that they would ever understand him even if they were his parents. Sometimes he wondered to himself if it would have been easier if he was a musician like his father. When the darkest, loneliest time came he sometimes even wondered if he wasn't adopted, since the only person in his family he ever truly got along was with his grandfather. Jo always proudly showed him the drawing he had completed as a child, the paintings once he progressed to it now he had nobody to share that with apart from Gaby who would sometimes force him to show her some of his work. He guessed that being an only child didn't really help the pressure he felt to make his parents proud, plus the fact that he was pretty much a loner and an introvert. Since he never had any other kids to interact with when he was younger.

Sighing he gathered up all his stuff putting into his black backpack, trying to keep the picture he was working on from crumpling was harder than he expected. As he made his way through the hallway people kept bumping into him which annoyed him more than he could even describe. The people at this school had no manners or respect really they should have known better, since you're supposed to have all those and more when you attend a private school. Behind him he heard someone calling him as he turned he noticed it was one of the girls from his Painting & Drawing class. Jo knew her fairly well since occasionally he and Kate would exchange opinions on artists, drawings sometimes even paintings. After all Jo was jealous of Kate since her parents were artists they supported her but she wasn't really half as talented as they were in his opinion. Still he always tried to help her when she needed it, which he figured she wanted now since she was coming towards him with her sketchbook open. "Jo" she said as she held the sketchbook to him so he could see. "Something is really odd about this drawing, it doesn't quite fit." sighing she moved her eyes up to his expectantly. Jo smiled to himself because she was always so eager to get everything right but she just lacked instinct. "It's the eyes they're out of proportion in the face." he said looking down at the picture thinking it looked pretty odd. "You need to work on the detail of the pupil when the light hits it, and the eyelashes." he said before realizing he needed to get to study hall. "Just practice them as much as you can, they're a pretty hard thing to draw." he said smiling before turning away continuing his journey down the hall.

Taking out the old cell phone he had since forever he looked at the screen to see he had four unread text messages which totally surprised him since he never usually got any.

From: Gabby
Msg: My day planner fell! My notecards scattered! And this dimrod kid didn’t even help me!
Ugh, I am so angry to the point that I just want to stomp all over him. . .

From: Gabby
Msg:Can’t you get out of class? Are you in class? Wait, the bell hasn’t even rung yet. . . I’m going to shoot him death glares for the rest of his life. . .

From: Gabby
Msg: Joseph, if you don’t reply me back . . . ):

From: Gabby
Msg: I’ll find you during study break.

After reading those messages he was pretty sure Gab wasn't going to be in the best mood, since she would have to completely re-order her planner. So he decided against replying since she said she would see him in study hall anyway. Continuing to walk down the hall towards the study room he wasn't paying any attention since he had his phone in his hand, he almost bumped into one of those new girls. He was pretty sure that it was the girl who he had seen in the office earlier, the quiet one. Since the two times Jo had seen her she had been almost as quiet as he was, so he kind of assumed she must be quiet. But really he didn't know much about any of those kids. Apart from the fact that Colton was arrogant, and probably going to get into a whole lot of trouble at school if he continued to do what he was doing in the office earlier. Sighing Jo put his phone away before he bumped or maybe even tripped over somebody else in the hallway, since everyone was rushing to their next class not paying any attention to where they were going. He didn't even know why they had to go to stupid study hall since it was the first day back, how much work did they really have to complete or catch up on? In Jo's previous experiences of study hall it always seemed to turn into some social gathering. Where they would all start gossiping about various subjects he couldn't care less about. As he headed into the room he had already decided he would just continue his drawing.

Instantly spotting Gabriella looking pretty stressed out, he couldn't help but smile to himself as he made his way over to her. Why did she always worry about that planner so much it really wasn't her life as much as she thought it was. Sometimes he wished she could or would just do something crazy like the throw the thing away and do something she wanted to do. But honestly he couldn't see that happening anytime soon. "Gab!" Jo said as he walked over to her noticing how red in the face she looked he wondered if she had been crying about the whole planner incident. "Are you okay?" he said a little concerned since he more than anyone knew how much that thing meant to her. "I would have replied but I made it to class early. You know how I love my art." he said in way of explanation, even though she probably didn't need one at all since she knew him pretty well. Sighing he sat down on one of the desks looking around a little since nobody else had even arrived yet. Guessing they must have been side tracked by gossiping in the hallways or an other drama from one of those Blackwell kids, after what he had seen earlier it wouldn't surprise him.

He was just standing there, staring at Brynn like some kind of mute idiot. Onyx still hadn't worked out why he did that every time he was in a room with her now. Before, back when they were in the games they were never this awkward or weird around each other but so much had changed since then. Even the both of them had changed so much since then, half of the time he didn't know who he was anymore. "Hey" he replied to her awkwardly as he stood there still, kind of shuffling back and forth on the spot. Deciding that standing up shuffling on the spot wasn't a good look he walked over to the dinning table, taking his usual seat. How much he was going to eat he wasn't sure of since he still felt incredibly sick about the rose he had found in his room. "looks like it." he said noticing that nobody else had come in for dinner yet, which only made him feel even more awkward. He honestly couldn't remember the last time he and Brynn had spent any time alone together that lasted beyond five minutes.

It was weird sitting down at the table with her like they were old friends, when in reality it felt like they were whole lifetimes apart. Stabbing at some of the food on his plate he was mainly just playing with it, moving it around on his plate. Then he moved his eyes up to see Brynn was looking at him, he wanted to look away. The way she was looking at him was intense, honestly he hadn't ever really seen her look at him that way before, it was uncomfortable. Onyx smiled a little sadly when she said she missed the games, that was his moment of glory he would never have it again. "At least I was good at that." he said nodding his head wondering what purpose he even had now it was all over, he had felt lost like that for a while now. But now that Brynn was there sitting across from him he realized more than ever how lost, hopeless and alone he really felt.

His eyes widened when she had started talking about threats. The threats were visible there That was the thing he had noticed about Brynn lately, the thing that changed about her. She was always talking like she was in some kind of battle or a war with someone, like she was trying to protect herself. He didn't understand why she was talking like that, she had mentioned the notes but who could they possible be from? Shrugging his shoulders he cut a piece of meat then popped it into his mouth, which he almost immediately started choking on because of what Brynn said next. "I miss you, too." had she really just said that? Even though he wasn't exactly sure in what way she meant. All he knew was that it wasn't like her to say anything like that, something was definitely going on. Something weird that he didn't like, it gave him a bad feeling deep down inside.

While he was still choking on the piece of meat that he had just attempted to eat Brynn was going off on one of her crazy ramblings about something called Frank Sinatra he had never heard of it before in his life. But Onyx had already figured out she was doing it to try and avoid what she had just accidentally let slip, not that it was that much of a big deal to him. After all they had been friends back then, during the games. "Oh it's music." he said as she continued to talk about this Frank Sinatra person, she seemed very into it. Getting up from the table he shook his head as he walked over to where Brynn was taking something out of her pocket then plugging it into some speakers. District 1 might have been a favorite of the capitol but music wasn't something they knew much about. The only other time Onyx had ever really heard music was when he was in the capitol.

"Wow that's loud" he said as the music started to fill the room, or most probably the whole train it was that loud. Onyx just stood there as the music continued watching as Brynn seemed to enjoy it. It wasn't bad music he guessed but music probably wasn't his thing, or at least this kind. "It's okay." he said laughing a little at how crazy she was being, just waiting for something even worse or weirder to happen.

Before he could do or say anything else Brynn had grabbed his hand, and was doing some kind of dancing with him. Well Onyx wasn't dancing, he was just standing there while Brynn amused herself, but that wasn't anything new. He wondered how she could go from saying one thing which was or could be completely innocent to this, now she was touching him, holding his hand even. Didn't it make her feel the way it made him feel whenever they touched? Onyx couldn't remember if it had always felt like that when she touched him or not, he couldn't remember.

Then they were just standing there in the middle of a room where people were supposed to eat, music filling the space. Their bodies close together, her hand on his chest. When he looked into her eyes the way he did now it was hard to focus on anything, it made his mind go completely blank. They both quickly moved apart standing side by side when one of the stylists came into the room. Although Onyx was pretty sure that she had already seen them doing whatever it was they were doing, he was sure that it didn't look good. It would get back to the others what she had seen he didn't doubt it for a minute, everyone would know including the president. Onyx just hoped that the president would see it as him doing what he asked, nothing else.

"I heard district 11 eleven is so big you can get lost in it" he said trying to put all the awkwardness behind them by not talking about what just happened. "I wonder if you actually could." he said wondering if he could get lost there when they arrived tomorrow, that nobody would find him not even the president but that was impossible. "I was ready to get it over with from day one, at least tomorrow you'll be home."
he said turning to look at her wishing he could be at home, making sure his family was safe.

John was a little surprised when Jade pulled him in for a hug he wasn't exactly sure why. But he guessed it was because pretty much everyone apart from Lucia so far had been hostile towards him, like he was some kind of enemy. So it was nice to know not everyone here hated him, as he wrapped his arms around Jade hugging her to him tightly before letting go. "I know, got caught up in some drama." he said smiling to her as he glanced at Lucia who was silently standing in the kitchen. John knew that Jade would totally know what drama he was talking about since everyone in the house must have heard Ally going mad. "I've not been that bad, could be better." he said smiling as he kind of glanced her over thinking she hadn't really changed that much. "How about you?" he said curiously wondering what she was doing with her life these days. What was it that a wild fun girl did in her grown up life?

"Oh, you know me too well,"Jade said which brought a smile to John's face, at least not everything had changed. He was so grateful for Jade in that moment, being her usual fun, caring self. Leaning against the counter he smiled back at Jade as he watched her going over to one of the cupboards pretty sure that was where she had stashed the alcohol. Which was confirmed when he saw Jade pulling out the bottle, John knew he could use more than a couple of drinks right now. At least to make everyone he didn't want to be around disappear for a while, or just to make them easier to deal with. Since alcohol not only made his aggressive side surface, it also made him a little more outspoken. "I'm glad I still know that about you." John said as he watched Jade getting out the glasses for the alcohol, smirking a little since she was getting out quite a few glasses. The atmosphere would definitely change if everyone was going to get drunk. But some of the group were never that into getting drunk not even back in the day, but maybe that had changed now they were older as well.

He couldn't help but smile since he was already sensing a change in the atmosphere as Jade was pouring the drinks. Just loving the way she could turn any awkward situation into something fun, and just ignore everything negative that was going on around her. John laughed a little at about her comment about the retirement home since he doubted this much drama happened in retirement homes. They were acting more like big kids all stuck in a house together fighting over their favorite toy. "Any takers?" Jade said as John nodded going over to take the glass from her, giving her a slight grin before drinking the glass of liquor down in one go and placing the glass back down on the counter. Letting out a slight laugh since that drink was actually pretty strong but it tasted good all the same. Plus he really needed that as he grabbed an other glass off the counter, sipping on that one instead of drinking it all in one go. "We need some music." John said grinning since that was something he had always loved, and he knew Jade loved to dance so why not.

Going over to the sound system he just put some random music on since the choice of CD's they had here was pretty limited. But hey once you were drunk you would dance to anything right and he seriously doubted it would take long before him and Jade were drunk. Still sipping on his drink he made his way back into the kitchen finishing the drink he had and grabbing an other. That was two drinks down already so he was on the right track as he grinned leaning back against the counter looking over at Luci. "Don't you want one?" he said grabbing a drink and holding it out for her to grab. He wasn't sure if she did drink or not but this was supposed to be a party and he wasn't going to be the only one drunk with Jade. No if they were going to get drunk then everyone should join in since this was their first night here it was supposed to be a celebration Jade was right. "After all I'm not ready for the retirement home quite yet." he said giving Jade a grin still holding out the drink for Lucia, if she didn't want it he would just have that himself as well.
