Lucas didn’t exactly like this whole ‘becoming a mercenary’ thing; it all seemed too…real for him. He was the type of person who would have been better fit for farming or taxi-cab driving. Anything but military work! Lucas just wasn’t cut out for that kind of thing; he was a weakling, he was willing to admit it if it would get him out of it. He couldn’t even stand doing pushups in school…what the hell made his father think he could handle guns and running and…fighting a much larger man? It was crazy. |

Kairi sighed and lazily rolled, literally rolled, herself out of bed and scooted all the way over to her computer desk. 'Maybe the guys are still awake.' Kairi thought as she pulled herself up, with great effort, in her chair. She moved her mouse and the screen popped up; no one was on. At least, not that they were letting her see, anyways. Kairi whined and hit her head on the desk; what had she done to deserve this hellish fate?! Kairi decided that she'd try and fall asleep one last time, and if it didn't work she'd just have to force herself to stay there, with her eyes closed, and at least pretend to sleep. Kairi dragged herself back to her bed, and curled up under her covers. She started counting again, back at one. Slowly, but surly, she started to drift off to sleep. Somewhere around three-hundred forty-five, soft snores could be heard coming from a big bundle on Kairi's bed. And around seven-something that morning, the snores were louder, and there was no longer a bundle, but a large splayed out person. Snoring. Drooling. Loudly. The alarm was going off, and had been going off for a while now but Kairi hadn't heard it. Loud banging came from outside her door followed by her mother's yelling "Kairi! Turn off that damned alarm clock before I break it!" She hit the door one more time and Kairi groaned; she wasn't ready to get up. It was way too early anyways. Kairi looked over at her clock, it took her a moment to process it and then she jumped and and yelled. "I'm going to bed late! Crapcracpcrap!!" She tripped out of bed and to her closet. She just picked out random items of clothing and threw them on she didn't really care if she ended up looking like a circus freak or not, she just couldn't be tardy again, or miss another day of school. Last time they'd threatened to expell her for truancy or something lame like that; she'd only missed fourteen days, no big deal! Well...not really, considering the circumstances under which she missed school for. Since when did music not matter in school? Her shows should be like, extra-credit or something. At least not a punishment. Kairi growled as she looked for her shoes; she never put them in the right place. She dashed out of her room and down the hall. She screamed and flailed as she felt herself trip over something, then fall over; juuust her luck. Well, good news-she found her shoes. Bad news-she felt like she was dead. She groaned and stood up, taking her shoes with her. "I'm off to school mom! Don't forget about your doctor's appointment today!" Kairi yelled as she was going out the door, attempting to put her shoes on as she went. She finally managed to get herself situated, and started running towards the school; but she didn't see anyone else going yet. "Weird..." she muttered to herself. Kairi felt something vibrating on her back in her book-bag. She stopped running for a second to see who was calling. Wrong number. At least, she'd never seen it before so she ignored it. "You've got to be kidding me." She said to herself as she saw the time on her phone. She wasn't late. She wasn't even close to being late. She was way too early! Kairi felt like hitting her head on something. "What the heck do I do now?" She asked herself as she looked around her. "Sora's house isn't too far from here..." Kairi started in the direction of her friend's house. Now she was early, but would be late if she went all the way back to her house. She looked like an idiot with the way she was dressed, and she was tired. She groaned she she knocked on her friends door. "Sooooorrraaa-chhhaaaan~. Leeeet me iiiinnn." Her words were slurred and whiny, just like she felt. |

and he expected him to uphold the date they’d set. Aiden hit the window seal with his furry fist. “Sir, you know th-they’re not really even that late.” A chair told him from across the room. Aiden growled and whipped around, teeth bearing and eyes blazing. “This is my last chance. Don’t tell me that they’re not late, they were supposed to be here an ho-“ Aiden was cut off by the sound of that damned annoying doorbell invading his ears. He turned back around to the window and saw someone standing there. “She’s here. Go to the dining room and make sure everything is ready. Now.” Random objects began scurrying around, trying to the door and downstairs before their master could get any angrier than he already was. After all the furniture and other items had cleared out, another man walked into the room, holding a cain and a leash with a yellow retriever attached to it. “I see she showed up.” Aiden rolled his eyes; that guy never stopped with the blind jokes. One slip up on his part and now he had to live forever with the teasing of said blind man. The blind man in the doorway chuckled and walked further into the room. Even though the man was blind, it always seemed to Aiden that he could see more that anyone he’d ever known. And he was a great gardener, the back yard used to be ugly and depressing before the man came and fixed it up. There were now bright colorful flowers and things there. Aiden often times helped him, when he was in a good mood, after his lessons. “You sure you still want to go through with this?” The blind man asked Aiden, moving his cain around making sure not to trip over something in the room as he made his way to the beast. “This is my last chance, Shayne. I can’t back out now anyways.” He said offering his hand to help the blind man, Shayne, out a little. “Thank you. Why can’t you?” Shayne asked as he took a seat on the big red couch that was facing the window. “I think I’d feel terrible if let her go back with that guy.” Aiden said shaking his head. “And I already gave him my PS3 and some old jewels of my moms, so no trade backs.” He said, making Shayne burst out laughing. Aiden smirked underneath all his fur and began walking towards the door, he didn’t want to be late for the first dinner he was going to have with the girl, and he’d yet to get ready. “Do you need any help getting back down the stairs?” He asked even though he knew that Shayne would refuse. “No thank you, I think I can make it.” Aiden nodded and left the room, almost running, as he tried to make it to his room without being seen by the girl. When he got into the hallway he dropped down on all four paws and started to run through. Coat racks, stools, cups and plates all had to jump (or scoot) out of the way when he ran through, unless they wanted to get ran over. Aiden nearly knocked over a tray that was rolling through, carrying food into the dining area. As he was rushing past, he could see that the girl was already seated in the dining room. He cursed under his breath as he sneaked by, down the hall, around a few corners and up a flight of stairs. He hurrily grabbed one of the many cloaks Shayne and the other servants had helped to make. He threw it over his shoulders and pulled the hood over top of his head; he was ready. Aiden took one quick look in the mirror, and stopped dead. There was no way in hell he could pull this off. There was no way he could just win over some girl he’d never met before, especially looking how he was. He was a beast, how could anyone love that? Let alone sit down and eat dinner with it. Aiden let out a loud growl and smashed the mirror; he couldn’t go. “Well, well, well. Having second thoughts now, are we?” Shayne asked from the doorway. Aiden growled again, this time lower and more menacing. The Lab beside Shayne crouched down into a protective stance and barred his teeth. “Now stop that, Beatrix.” The dog immediately stopped when her master asked, and sat down looking ashamed. “You should be more like Beatrix; you’d be much easier to take care of.” Aiden glared at him and pulled his hood up that had fallen during his little fit. “Come on, can’t turn back now, you even said so yourself.” Shayne got a wide smile on his face and Aiden continued to glare; damn that blind man. Aiden was scared to go now, scared that the girl would just go running and screaming and then he’d be damned to be a monster for the rest of his life, and he couldn’t have that. He who used to be the King of his high school. He who had the most beautiful girl in the whole school. Although, he soon found out that girl was a good for nothing when she went running and screaming from his father’s house on Homecoming night when she found out what he really was. Aiden sighed, he went through it once, and what could it hurt to go through it again? At least it wouldn’t be a surprise. Aiden angrily brushed past Shayne and Beatrix into the hall. “Good luck.” Shayne said to Aiden before he rounded the corner. Aiden stopped in front of the dining room; this was it. This is the moment that could make or break his chance at life again. He silently slid into the dining room, covered from head to toe in cloth, the only thing visible was his eyes and that was only if he lifted his head far enough for you to look at him. “I hop you’ve found everything to your liking.” Aiden mumbled as he sat down opposite the girl. He was contemplating taking off his cloak, after all it would be very hard to eat with it on. “Master, would you like me to, um, hold onto your cloak for you? It is bad table manners to eat with such a thing on.” Aiden glared at the coat rack that was leaning down beside him; he’d have no choice now. He removed his cloak and the coat rack quickly took at and scooted away. Aiden didn’t even so much as glance at the girl the whole time. He was ready for any yelling and screaming she would throw at him. |

“Kill the spare!” “NO CEDRIC!” “Avada Kedavra!” “Expelliarmus!” Dark eyes darted open, and a voice began to scream. “No! Harry, don’t let him kill me! Harry help me!” Cedric’s frantic yells alerted the professors and the nurse who was supposed to be watching him. They all rushed in as soon as they heard him screaming and flailing the covers off his body. “Cedric! Calm down, boy!” Snape who’d yelled first, and then it was McGonagall and her frantic whispers to the nurse asking what was wrong with him. What wasn’t wrong?! Voldemort was trying to kill him and they were all standing around like a bunch of idiots! “Mister Diggory!” Cedric immediately stopped his flailing and yelling when he heard the headmaster’s voice shout above all the rest. Cedric allowed his eyes to open again, for the first time actually looking at where he was, and gasped. He wasn’t in the graveyard anymore. He saw Dumbledore standing furthest away, but quickly walking closer, and most of the other professors were there too. The nurse and even Filch with his cat clutched close to his chest. But there was no Harry. Had Voldemort gotten a hold of him? Cedric began to look around the infirmary, more frantic, worrying that Harry had died. “Mister Potter is fine, Cedric.” Dumbledore reassured him, making Cedric think that he really could read his mind, and it wasn’t just something that the Wonder Twins spread around to scare people. Dumbledore raised his brow, which just proved Cedric’s theory further. Cedric glanced past Dumbledore and saw Moody’s eye rolling around in his head and flinched; not something that made the sick feeling in your stomach feel any better. Cedric turned his gaze back to the headmaster, silently pleading to know what was going on. Why he wasn’t laying dead in some cemetery somewhere with you-know-who standing over him, laughing at his carcass. The headmaster nodded and waved the rest of the people, save the other sick or injured people, and sat at the end of Cedric’s bed. Cedric sat up, with no problem at all, and looked at the headmaster confusion spreading over his features. “Mister Diggory,” Dumbledore started, looking Cedric straight in the face with the most serious look he’d seen the headmaster have in his life. Cedric gulped down saliva that wasn’t there, that made him realize he was parched, and stayed quiet not wanting to push anything. “What do you remember? From that night, with Harry and…you-know-who, what do you remember?” Cedric was taken aback by the question and slightly cocked his head to the side. Cedric didn’t really remember much from that night-how long ago was that?-only that he’d heard someone point the killing curse at him, and then someone who sounded a lot like Harry shout another spell. He knew Harry was strong and all, but that strong? It almost seemed mad. “I don’t really remember anything,” Cedric lied, looking at the floor, avoiding Dumbledore’s mind reading eyes. “Except for someone shouting…the killing curse.” He said, a little lower, not sure that the old man heard him. He saw Dumbledore nod out of the corner of his peripheral vision. Cedric moved again, without pain. He started examining himself and found no injuries. Nothing. Not even the scrapes and cuts he’d gotten going through the final challenge. He looked around, looking for anything that would help him figure out when the hell it was. Had it been a few days? A week? A month? More than a month? Cedric finally remember that Dumbledore was still in the room with him and figured he’d know what he didn’t. “Sir, how long have I been in here?” He asked somewhat nervous that he’d be told that he had been sleeping for years or something terrifying like that. Dumbledore chuckled at the obviously worried tone in the boy’s voice. “Only a few days, Mister Diggory.” Cedric sighed with relief, so he hadn’t missed any birthdays or anything important. Cedric’s head snapped up as he saw Dumbledore stand. “You’re free to leave, Cedric.” Dumbledore told him, as he stood up and made his way to the door. “And I suggest that you thank Mister Potter for saving you from you-know-who.” He added reaching the door and walking out. So it had been Harry who saved him. Amazing. Harry was younger than him and was already fighting the dark lord, and winning too by the looks of it. Cedric snorted and started to get up and gather his stuff so he could leave. He couldn’t believe that someone so young, so small, could do something so epic. “Cedric!” Cedric’s head snapped towards the door at the call of his name; it was Cho and some others from his house and other classes. They all started swarming around him, asking things like “Did you really see you-know-who?!” and “Oh Merlin’s beard! Did he really try and kill you?!” Cedric just smiled, laughed, and played along with it. If he was getting attention this bad, he wondered how bad Potter was getting it. With everyone knowing, supposedly, that he defeated Voldemort single-handedly. It must have been hard, Cedric assumed at least. Maybe he was used to that sort of thing by now? Then again, maybe he wasn’t. What did he know? He wasn’t the Boy-Who-Lived, now was he? Cedric endured the unwanted attention from his friends and classmates-who the hell was that one in the back? - for a few minutes more until the Nurse saved him from the blur of questions that just never seemed to come to an end. He thanked her and made his way out into the, surprisingly, not so busy halls of Hogwarts. Walking down the hall, Cedric’s stomach let out an ungodly loud growl. He stopped and looked around, hoping that no one had heard him. Well, he hadn't eaten since the day of the last task and they were serving dinner in the great hall...he could always go check in his common room later, after he ate. A lot. He turned back around in the other direction and started jogging towards the great hall. “Cedric?” Cedric stopped and turned around to see Cho again. “Weren’t you going to go back to the common room? You need to rest, Ced.” Cedric sighed and leaned against a wall; he’d been busted by the big-bad wolf. “I’m really hungry, though. I’ve been sleeping for daaays.” He whined at her, and she started to laugh. Cedric gave her the most pathetic looking sad face he could muster up and she started laughing so loud Cedric thought they were going to get scolded by Filch or something. After a few minutes Cho finally calmed down and started walking towards the common room. “Alright, just make sure you get some rest at some point.” Cedric waited until she rounded the corner and was out of sight before he started jogging to the great hall again. When Cedric, finally, made it into the great hall, a lot of people started staring at him like they’d seen a ghost or something. He figured everyone knew that he was alright, he wasn’t going to be comatose forever, and that he was already awake. That wasn’t the case. As soon as he sat down at his table he was swarmed with more questions, more accusations, and even more questions. He didn’t even know half the people who were talking to him, he just wanted to eat. Nothing more. Just sit in quiet, save for the cheery talk of friends, and stuff his face until he felt like he might blow chunks. But no. People had to be nosy, annoying jerks and interrupt him. “Alright, alright! That’s enough, the poor b*****d’s just gotten out. Leave ‘em alone, will ya?” Thank God for friends. Cedric looked over to his housemate who’d saved him from a major headache and silently thanked him. Cedric filled his plate and was about to start gorging when he saw Harry and one of the Weasley’s sitting at the Griffindor table. He was torn; food or savior? He couldn’t decide, so he figured: why not both? He wasn’t sure that it was aloud, but the teacher’s could deal with it for just this once, he was sure they’d understand if he actually took the time to explain it to them. Though, all Dumbledore had to do was read his mind (lawl). He grabbed his plate and ninja-ed over to the boy-who-lived and his ginger friend. “Heya Harry. Ron.” Cedric greeted them as he sat down beside Ron, across from Harry. He wanted to be able to look at the boy when he thanked him, after all this was his life that Harry rescued. Cedric took a bite of whatever that blue stuff was on his plate, he wasn’t about to question what it was, then cleared his throat. “Hey, I wanted to, um, thank you, Harry.” Cedric said as he took a drink of his pumpkin juice. “I’d be kinda dead if it wasn’t for you.” Cedric smiled and moved that food on his plate around, suddenly not hungry anymore. “I know that the only way to repay a life is, well, a life. But, if there’s any way I can repay you, just name it.” He looked over at the ginger kid beside him who’d been staring at him the whole time. Cedric just blinked a few times and then went back to his food, despite the protests that his stomach was giving. |

Victor exited his room and met up with his headmaster in the hallway. People from his school, and from the other schools, were wishing him luck for the upcoming task. He would have smiled if he didn’t think the headmaster would give him an earful for it later. Emotionless is the way to be in Bulgaria. So instead of smiling, and thanking them for their kindness, he just stared on and nodded. Maybe that’s why people didn’t like him so much, why people liked Potter and Diggory, the two Hogwallow boys, more than him. It wasn’t that Victor didn’t have any fans, he was one of the best seekers of his time, and he was a champion in the Triwizard tournament…but it was depressing that some scrawny little undeservers got more than he does. Speaking of the-boy-who lived, Victor could see him up ahead with his…posse. There was the floofy haired girl who always seemed to be reading or something or the like, and then there were the four gingers. The two twins kind of scared, and annoyed, Victor. Always playing their pranks and running around. Then there was the smallest ginger girl, she seemed shy. And then there was Potter’s best friend, and the middle kid, Ron, he believed he was named. Out of the whole bunch, the middle ginger kid was the one that Victor could stomach the most. He liked that he was…timid, sort of, and his awkwardness made him even more interesting. Victor couldn’t help but smirk as he walked past the gang. He noticed them all staring after them, and then they started comforting Harry, telling him that Victor was no competition. But there was one voice that he didn’t hear. He stole a quick glance over his shoulder and saw his favorite ginger glaring something awful at him. At least, it looked like a glare to Victor; he could never be too sure. He blinked and turned back around as the rounded a corner and ran into Dumbledore, Hogwarts headmaster. “We’ve changed the tasks time; it’s now going to be in an hour. Hurry to the tent on the grounds, we’re having a brief meeting before hand.” It was early? Why was it early? He hadn’t even gotten in his full training yet. Shitshitshit, damn old man. “Oh yes, have you seen Mister Potter, by chance?” Dumbledore asked before moving on him merry little way. Victor nodded and pointed behind him. “We just past him in da hall back there.” Dumbledore nodded his thanks and went on his way. Victor and his headmaster made their way to the tent where the task was going to take place, getting in as much training as he could as they went. At some point they were passed up by Diggory and some oriental girl, then the blond froofy girl from the French school (she wouldn’t last long). He never did see Potter pass him though. When they got into the tent they were greeted by the other three contestants and a few other people. Dumbledore beckoned for Victor to hurry up and come closer with the rest of the group; there was a bag. It was making noises and moving around. He was asked to stick his hand in and pull the first thing he grabbed out. What the hell? Were these people mad? He didn’t know what the hell was hiding in the confides of that bag, and he wasn’t sure that he wanted to find out. Despite that little voice that was yelling to him in the back of his head to not reach into the bag, ‘something might gnaw your hand off, Victor.’, he quickly snaked his hand in and pulled out a miniature…dragon? He stared at his dragon as the other’s chose theirs; his actually didn’t look too bad, it was kind of cute, actually. But, the true-to-life sized one might be a different story, the Chinese Firebolt was not to be taken lightly after all. So that was it then? All they had to do was pick a dragon? Surely that wasn’t the ta- Oh. So they had to fight the dragon…right. And get some Golden Egg, greeeeaaat. Victor sighed; he was to go after Fleur. Victor took a seat on one of the benches and waited. And waited some more. And some more. He listened to the sounds of the crowd cheering and the dragon roaring. And at some point he even caught that Skeeter lady eaves dropping on floofy-hair and boy wonder. After some time Fleur finally came back with her golden egg (he didn’t think she’d make it) and it was his turn. He calmly stood up and walked to the entrance to the battle ground, awaiting the signal to go. He heard someone wish him luck, again, and he nodded his thanks as the cannon fired. He walked out into the rocky terrain, expecting to be greeted with a large dragon, but found nothing but many cheering fans. He scanned the stands, looking for people he knew. He saw people from Drumstrang cheering him on, he saw girls from the French school giggling and blowing kisses at him, and the firls from Hogwarts were doing the same thing just less…attractively. And then he saw floofy-hair and the middle ginger kid. Victor looked up and smiled at Ron who just seemed to be staring, but he could see that it was floofy-hair that noticed. Victor was greeted with a massive tail as he was about to move on. He fought hard against the dragon and he finally got his egg after he used the only spell he could think of that would work. But some of the other eggs the dragon was watching after got destroyed in the process, so he was docked so many points. All-in-all, he was in a good spot when the first task was over. After the boy wonder had gotten his egg, he and Victor were tied at forty points. And that was just peachy with him. After all of the champions had gotten back into the tent and the injured ones were being cared for, congratulations and praise were going all around. Victor sat down on the same bench as before and waited for the nurse to come and give him something for the wound he’d gotten on his upper arm. He sighed, bored and kind of wanting someone, or something to talk to…other than the Skeeter woman who seemed to be advancing on him. |

It seemed that the more Cedric ate, the larger his appetite became, and the large that sick feeling got. But, hey, if he got sick at least he could get out of classes for a few more days, right? Not that he couldn’t get out if he complained that something was hurting, but that was beside the point. Cedric couldn’t help but notice how nervous Harry seemed to be. Was Cedric making him uncomfortable? Maybe he should leave, this was Harry’s table after all and he probably had better things to do. Or something…Cedric was feeling somewhat awkward now, as he started to eat again. Cedric was in mid-bite of some kind of cookie when Harry posed the idea of talking in the prefect’s bathroom. It didn’t sound like a bad idea; at least it would be a bit quieter. And a little less…creepy. Cedric looked over at Ron who had closed his mouth, at least, but he was still staring. “Are you alright, Ron?” When Cedric turned his attention back around Harry was already up and walking out of the great hall. Cedric sighed; he must have said something that embarrassed Harry, and now he felt bad. “It was nice to see you guys again, we should hang out the next time we go to Hogsmead.” Cedric said to Hermione and Ron. Hermione smiled and nodded at him and said something that sounded like “sure thing” but he wasn’t positive, and Ron nodded his head and continued to stare at him as he got up from the table. “Bye Ron, ‘Mione.” Cedric took one more drink of his never-ending supply of Pumpkin juice and started on his way to the prefect’s bathroom. Cedric wasn’t sure why Harry was acting so strange, he wasn’t exactly like that before. Well, not as bad before. Maybe the girls, and his friends, were threatening him. It wouldn’t be the first time they’d done something stupid and immature like that. Or maybe he just didn’t want Cedric to hang around. Cedric dug his hands into the pockets of his slacks nervously; maybe he shouldn’t go. If that was indeed what Harry wanted to see him about, he didn’t want to have someone upset with him as soon as he came out of his mini-coma. Cedric stopped and rested his forehead against the cool, smooth wall. He didn’t know what to do. If he went, it could mean that he lost a possible friend. And if he didn’t go he might upset Harry and then he could lose a potential friend that way. Cedric groaned, defeated, and hit his head lightly on the wall. “Now, don’t go getting another concussion on me, alright?” Cho’s voice broke into his thoughts, immediately making his headache that much worse. “Heya, Cho. Shouldn’t you be in the commons?” Cedric asked turning around, leaning his back against the wall. Cho smirked and shifted in place. “I could say the same thing about you.” Smiling, Cedric nodded his head and ran a pale slender hand through his thick shaggy hair. She got him there, he had said that he would go back to the common room once he’d finished eating, but that was before he was supposed to meet Harry. “You want me to walk back with you? I Just have to take this book I borrowed from McGon-“ Cedric cut Cho off mid-sentence with his hand. “It’s alright Cho; I have to meet someone anyways. Go on, I’ll see you later in the commons.” Cho raised one of her brows but didn’t protest to anything. “Alright…see you later, Cedric.” Cedric waved to her again as she began to walk down the hall, looking back at his unmoving self every few steps. It wasn’t until she was out of his sight that he finally started to move. That girl was a stalker or something. He took her to that ball as a friend, and he’d let her know that; he wouldn’t hurt Harry like that. True, he did take the girl that he wanted to go with, but he wasn’t dating her or…anything that involved skin-on-skin contact; Cedric was better than that. Cedric stopped at a place where he had to pick a new hall; one that lead him to his common room…or one that lead to the prefect’s bathroom. He put a finger to his lips and pondered for a moment more…he’d go to the common room. Cedric started to walk down the hall that lead to him common room. ‘No no no! What are you doing, dolt?! Go back back back!!’ a little voice was yelling at him in the back of his mind for being a rude jackass. He’d kept Harry waiting for sometime already, and it would be rude to just leave him there. Cedric groaned and began jogging down the opposite hall; so he would go see what Harry wanted to speak about, no biggie. Cedric stopped in front of the bathroom and straightened himself up. He moved his tie around until he figured it was tight enough that his head might pop off. He tried to smooth down some of his hair, but that was just a lost cause, he’d need a jumbo sized bucket ‘o grease or something for that, and that was an adventure for another day. Cedric knocked lightly on the door before walking in, looking about for Harry. “Oi, Harry? You about?” |
